The following morning, the group gathers at the training grounds, as everyone retrieves their horses from the stables, preparing for the journey. They saddle up and load the supplies onto the horses. Cormac and Deirdre share a heartfelt embrace, savoring their last moments together before parting for the next two days. Cormac gazes down at Deirdre, noticing the tears glistening in her eyes and cascading down her cheeks. Cormac tenderly cups her face, wiping away her tears, and leans in for a soft kiss, whispering sweet words to comfort her.
(C)Please don’t cry, when I get back we can spend some time together, just you and me and we can talk about our life together, as I said.
(DD)Just be safe and come back to me, that’s all I ask.
(C)I will, I promise, I’ll be back in no time. You have the necklace I gave you to give you comfort while I’m gone.
(DD)Just thinking of you gives me comfort, and being with you brings me peace.
(C)I’ll be thinking of you, too, because you bring me comfort and peace as well.
(DD)Find Commander Flynn and bring him home, that’s what matters. I know you have to go and help fight to get him back.
(C)I’ll return home to you, and we can make love when I do.
(DD)[smiles] I would love that very much.
(C)[smiles] I would, too, and I love you very much, Deirdre.
(DD)I love you very much, too, Cormac.
(L)Time to go, Cormac!
(C)Alright, I'll be right there! Goodbye for now, sweetheart.
(DD)Goodbye, for now, my love.
They exchange warm smiles and a final kiss, their arms enveloping each other in a tight embrace. After a moment, Cormac gently releases Deirdre, taking her hands in his and pressing a tender kiss upon them. He then turns and makes his way to his horse, mounting it with purpose as he readies himself to leave alongside the others. The group assembles on their steeds, and Kate faces them, her voice rising as she begins to address the gathering, capturing their full attention.
(K)Alright, do we have everything we need?
(B)Yeah, we do. We're ready to go find Merig.
(L)We’ve got what we need. If we ride straight through as fast as we can, we should be there before nightfall. Everyone, try not to fall behind and if we need to stop and rest, we can and we'll still be there by the end of the day.
(K)Let's go get my husband and bring him home. We've got a long journey ahead of us.
(B)You got it, sis, we’re ready.
(A)I’m ready.
(L)I’m ready, too.
(S)Myself and my healing supplies are ready.
(C)I’m ready, let’s go find Merig.
(G)I’m ready. Let’s bring the commander home.
(K)Alright, let’s go.
Kate skillfully guides her horse, leading the group as they make their way out of the training grounds, while Deirdre waves a cheerful farewell to the others. They gallop through the bustling city, crossing the sturdy walls and plunging into the embrace of the forest that lies ahead, marking the start of their adventure to Dunbarton. The group pushes their steeds to the limit, racing through the verdant woods and quaint towns, pausing occasionally to rest and recharge. As the sun dips below the horizon, they finally arrive at Dunbarton’s forests. They halt to strategize their next move in the search for the dungeon Merig is being held in.
(K)Barth, can you still pick up Merig or Sean’s scent?
(B)[sniff] Yeah, both scents are getting stronger.
(L)I smell them, too. Which direction is the strongest?
(B)[sniff] Northwest, which means the dungeon is close by.
(K)Alright, you lead the way, Barth.
(B)You got it, sis.
The group ventures northwest, making their way through the dense forest until they stumble upon a stone entrance, tucked away and hidden in the trees. They pause, gazing intently at the entrance before them. It boasts a dual structure, the outer archway is framed halfway by a sturdy stone wall, leading to the inner layer, and beyond that is a dark entrance that beckons from within. Kate's eyes are drawn to the peculiar inscriptions etched at the top of the arch, unable to read what it says, leaving her puzzled. Some of the others in the group share her bewilderment, their faces reflecting a mix of curiosity and confusion, except for Cormac, Larry, and Gordo, who remain unfazed.
(C)Rabbie Dungeon, that’s what it says.
(K)You can read that, Cormac?
(C)Well yeah, the other goblins should be able to read it as well. It’s the Fomorian language.
(B)Probably not me since I was raised by humans, but I’m sure Larry and Gordo can read it.
(L)Yeah, I can, oddly enough.
(G)I can read it, too.
(S)This entrance looks scary, it’s so quiet over here.
(A)It’ll be okay, let’s go have a look inside.
(B)Their scent is getting stronger, they’re in here.
(K)Alright, let’s go inside and get my husband.
Kate gracefully dismounts her horse, and one by one, her companions follow her lead as they approach the ominous entrance of the dungeon. They form a tight-knit group, stepping beneath the archway and crossing the threshold of the outer entrance. As they advance toward the shadowy entrance, they descend a narrow flight of stone stairs, but the darkness envelops them, obscuring their view. Barth, in a swift motion with his hand, summons his fire magic, casting a warm glow that unveils a small chamber. In the center stands a statue, with a stone slate at its base, each corner adorned with torches. Barth studies the unlit torches before stepping onto the slate, igniting each one with his fiery spell. Suddenly, the room bursts into light, transforming what seemed like a cramped space into a vast stone room. The group gazes around in awe before their eyes are drawn to the statue and the slate beneath Barth's feet.
(B)This must be the altar that Ingo was talking about.
(K)He said we all have to stand on it to enter the dungeon, and then I place this paper on the altar and we'll be teleported into the dungeon.
(S)It’s that simple, huh?
(L)Yep, let’s get our weapons ready. He also said we’ll be fighting monsters and other possessed Fomors.
(G)Cormac, is your shoulder doing alright enough to fight?
(C)I should be alright, the tension is less each day I train. At this point I don’t care, I’ll fight regardless.
(B)If anything happens to anyone, I’ll cover you.
(S)I have my healing bag here and magic shields just like Barth does, and I’ll protect you all and heal you if I need to.
(K)Alright and my magic may not be as advanced as Barth’s, but I don’t care. I’ll use as much magic as it takes for my husband.
(A)We know you will, hon, I’ve got my alchemy.
(L)My blades are ready.
(G)Time to kick some ass. I brought my special knuckles.
(C)I got a fresh new crossbow.
(B)I’ve got my magic as well, sis. This will be a great opportunity to test your spells in combat.
(K)Yep, and I’m ready.
(B)Let’s go in.
As they stand on the ancient altar, the group readies their weapons, their eyes fixed on Kate, who stands at the center. With a deep breath, Kate reaches into her pocket and produces the mysterious piece of parchment, its edges worn and frayed. She crouches down, placing it on the cold, gray slate beneath their feet. The air is heavy with anticipation as they wait for something, anything, to happen. Suddenly, the paper begins to glow with an ethereal light, and the altar beneath them shimmers in response. The group draws closer, their faces bathed in the soft, pulsing radiance. The light intensifies, illuminating the dark recesses of the room, before abruptly extinguishing, plunging them into darkness. As their eyes adjust, the group steps back, gazing around in confusion. The room has changed, its layout shifted, and dark. Barth summons a flickering flame, casting eerie shadows on the walls, while Larry ventures behind the statue, revealing a hidden entrance and a narrow stairway. With a beckoning gesture, Larry leads the group down into the unknown. The stairs descend into a vast, torch-lit chamber, the air thick with the scent of age and dust. Larry's eyes scan the room, spotting a doorway to the right, which leads to a narrow corridor. With weapons at the ready, the group follows him into the passage, their senses on high alert. The corridor stretches out before them, disappearing into the darkness with light at the end of it. As they emerge into another grand room, lit by torches that cast eerie shadows on the walls, they pause, their hearts pounding in unison. The room lies empty, its secrets waiting to be uncovered.
(K)I don’t see anything. Aren’t we supposed to be fighting monsters?
(B)I thought so, too, Ingo told us we would be.
(L)Unless it’s a trap, and we fell right into it.
(C)There’s a door over there that’s closed. Maybe it leads somewhere and we need to open it somehow.
(G)Maybe something will appear soon.
(A)Just keep looking around for clues on how to open that door.
(S)Uh, you guys, I think I know what we’re fighting, look up.
The group gazes upward, their eyes widening in terror as they spot multiple pairs of glowing red eyes fixed on them from the ceiling. Suddenly, the air is filled with the sound of flapping wings as a swarm of bats descends upon them, launching a chaotic assault. Everyone flails their arms in a desperate attempt to fend off the creatures, but their efforts are futile. The bats beat their wings furiously, their sharp talons raking across the group's skin. Sarah cries out in agony, and Barth, hearing her distress, turns to see her being overwhelmed. Without hesitation, he dashes to her side, swatting away the bats while enveloping her in his protective embrace. In a surge of determination, he summons a bolt of lightning, unleashing it above them, striking several bats mid-flight, and sending them crashing to the ground.
(B)Kate, use your lightning magic!
(K)Got it!
Kate struggles to summon her spells, overwhelmed by the swarm of bats that flit around her, making it impossible to cast. Cormac glances at her, determination in his eyes, and rushes to her side, swatting the bats away and using himself as a shield for her. With a fierce effort, he clears the air above her, allowing Kate to snap her fingers and channel her fully charged lightning bolt spell. She scans the chaotic room, focusing her energy before unleashing a brilliant flash of lightning that arcs above the group. Several bats are struck down, plummeting to the ground, while the rest, startled by the display, scatter and abandon their attack. The remaining members of the group take stock of their surroundings, weapons at the ready, as Cormac readies his crossbow. He takes aim at a nearby bat, releasing a bolt that finds its mark, sending the creature crashing down. Ashley, not to be outdone, loads her cylinder with a water crystal, targeting another bat and firing a powerful water cannon that sends it spiraling to the floor. In a synchronized effort, Kate and Barth unleash their lightning magic, bringing down even more bats in a dazzling display of power. Larry, ever vigilant, spots a bat diving toward him and rolls into action, drawing his sword and slicing the creature in half mid-air. As more bats swoop in, he continues to fend them off with swift, precise slashes and strikes. Amidst the chaos, Kate gathers her thoughts and calls out for Gordo to provide her with a protective shield, preparing to unleash an even more formidable spell.
(K)Gordo, I need your help! Cover me so I can charge my thunder spell!
(G)I’m on it!
Gordo dashes forward, positioning himself, forming a protective dome with his body and arms where Kate is standing. She channels her immense thunder spell, building its energy to a crescendo. Gordo moves out of the way, and with a dramatic flourish, Kate thrusts her arms skyward, unleashing the spell in a brilliant flash that crackles through the air, striking down the swarm of bats that flit wildly above them. One by one, the creatures are hit, plummeting lifelessly to the ground around the group. As the last echoes of the spell fade, the heavy door in the room opens, revealing a stillness that follows the chaos. The group surveys the scene, eyes scanning for any remaining threats. Meanwhile, Sarah rummages through her bag, retrieving a bottle of clear disinfectant and a stash of cotton, ready to tend to Barth’s wounds, carefully cleaning the scratches on his arms and face.
(B)Don’t worry about me, you’re worse than I am, Sarah.
(S)Hush, I’m going to clean everyone’s wounds first, that’s what I’m here for, now stay still.
(B)Alright, you're the boss, healer Sarah.
(K)I think we got all of them. Is everyone okay?
(L)It looks like everyone got scratched up or bitten. Other than that, I think we’re doing alright so far.
(C)We all did our best to bring all of them down.
(G)Except for me, I don’t use long-range attacks, so my martial arts skills would’ve been useless. That’s why I opted to shield Kate so she could use her magic.
(K)I appreciate it, Gordo. I had a feeling my big lightning spell would do the trick. Let’s just stay here for a bit while Sarah does her thing.
(A)Hey, that door opened, maybe we had to kill all of these bats in the room for it to open.
(C)I’m guessing this isn’t the only room, maybe that corridor leads to the next one.
(L)Only one way to find out, but let Sarah treat us first.
(B)[wince] Yeah, we’re all pretty scratched up from those bats.
(S)I’m sorry, I know it stings.
(B)Don’t even worry, Sarah, I’m just being a big baby.
(K)I wonder what this dungeon has in store for us next.
(A)Me too, but let’s get bandaged up. Hopefully, the next room won't have more bats.
(G)Agreed, but I have a feeling as we go further, the monsters will only be harder to fight.
(L)Let’s hope not, but if so, we’ll all be able to kick ass. Sarah, when we enter the next room, stay as far away from the monsters as possible so they don’t target you. We don’t want you to get severely hurt since you don’t have weapons on you.
(S)Right, I’ll put a shield around me. The only reason I couldn’t with the bats is because I got attacked and couldn’t cast it in time.
(B)It’s no big deal, Sarah, you’re helping more than you think.
(K)That’s right, in the next room, let’s charge our magic before going in, Barth.
(B)You got it, sis.
(C)I’ll load my crossbow before we enter. I guess we need to be more cautious in the next room.
(A)I’ll load my crystals beforehand as well.
(G)I’ll be ready to use my speed.
(L)Not much I can prepare other than raise my blades. We’ll be more prepared than we were in this room, though.
(K)Definitely, I’m kind of nervous about knowing what we’ll be fighting next.
(C)Hopefully, it’s not something that can fly and dive at us to attack.
(B)Yeah, hopefully.
(S)Alright, Barth, you’re all bandaged up, I’ll take care of the rest of you.
(K)You’re a saint, Sarah, thank you.
(S)[smiles] That’s my job.
Sarah shifts her focus to the next person, diligently cleaning wounds and placing bandages around each injury before tending to her own. Once she completes her task, the group prepares their weapons, adopting a more vigilant stance as they ready themselves for the upcoming room. Kate and Barth begin charging their spells, while Ashley meticulously loads her cylinder with fire crystals, and Cormac readies his crossbow. They advance cautiously through the corridor and step into the next chamber, scanning their surroundings. Their eyes land on several wooden chests scattered across the floor, leaving them puzzled yet alert as they venture deeper into the room.
(A)A room full of chests?
(L)Looks like it.
(G)So what exactly are we fighting?
(C)I think we’re going to be fighting the chests. They seem to be the only things in here and there’s another closed door.
(K)I think he’s right.
(B)Well, there’s only one way to find out.
Barth's curiosity gets the better of him as he approaches a mysterious chest, his eyes fixed on its features. He crouches down, poking at it cautiously, but it remains still. Undeterred, he stands up and taps the chest with his foot, but it doesn't budge. Meanwhile, Kate approaches another chest and kneels, her hand reaching out to touch its lid. As she opens it, a pair of glowing eyes stare back, surrounded by vicious square teeth. A low growl emanates from within, making Kate's blood run cold. The chest suddenly lurches to life, its lid snapping wildly as it lunges at Kate's hand. She recoils in terror, stumbling backward as she falls to the ground. The chest continues its relentless pursuit, violently scooting across the floor with an unnatural hunger. Barth and Gordo rush to Kate's aid, grabbing her arms and pulling her to her feet just in time. With a fierce battle cry, Gordo unleashes a powerful kick, sending the chest flying across the room. It shatters into splinters upon impact to a wall, but the victory is short-lived. The other chests in the room begin to stir, their lids opening to reveal rows of uneven square-shaped teeth and glowing eyes that burn with an inner fury. The air is filled with a chorus of growls and snarls as the chests prepare to attack, their malevolent intent clear. The group readies themselves for the impending onslaught, knowing they must fight to survive.
(K)What the hell are these things?!
(C)They’re Mimics.
(A)They look pretty mean and those teeth are huge.
(B)Sarah, stay back!
(S)I’m over in this corner, I’m not moving. I’ll be here if any of you get hurt.
(G)There’s a ton of them.
(L)And there’s six of us fighting, we can take all of them.
The mimics, their jaws agape and baring their teeth, begin to scoot and hop toward the group, moving in an unnerving and unnatural way. The air is electric with tension as the group readies their weapons, prepared to face the onslaught. Kate unleashes a bolt of lightning, striking a mimic with precision and killing it instantly. Barth follows suit, conjuring a fire spell that engulfs another mimic, reducing it to a smoldering, charred husk. Ashley aims, launching a fire alchemy attack that explodes on impact, incinerating a mimic and sending its remains flying. Cormac swiftly fires his crossbow, impaling a mimic and knocking it off balance, before swiftly reloading and taking down more of the creatures. Larry wields his swords with deadly precision, slashing and striking multiple mimics, sending them flying and shattering into pieces. In the chaos, a mimic notices Sarah cowering in the corner and quickly targets her, its growls and snarls filling the air as it closes in. Sarah's screams for help are answered by Barth, who rushes to her side, conjuring a fire spell and launching it at the mimic, destroying it instantly. With fierce determination, Barth stands guard, protecting Sarah from the oncoming horde, his fire spells striking true and incinerating more mimics. The battle rages on, the group fighting in perfect sync, their weapons and magic working in harmony to defeat the mimics. Finally, after what seems like an eternity, the last mimic falls, its remains joining the graveyard of dead creatures at their feet. The group stands panting, sweat-drenched, and victorious, as the door leading to the next room raises open, beckoning them forward.
(K)That wasn’t so bad, but it was a bit more difficult than the bats.
(L)We managed it, though. Is anyone hurt?
(A)No, I think we all managed to fight all of these unscathed.
(C)Not a scratch here.
(G)Same here, maybe a splinter, but that’s it.
(B)I’m fine over here. Are you alright, Sarah?
(S)A little shaken up, but I’m alright.
(K)I’m fine, how about you, Larry?
(L)Better than ever, this was just a warm-up. I’m sure there’s more to come.
(K)I wonder how many more rooms there are.
(C)Only one way to find out.
(B)Come on, Sarah, let’s get out of this room.
(S)Right.
Barth flashes a warm smile at Sarah, reaching out his hand, which she takes softly as they make their way toward the rest of the group. With a sense of purpose, they ready their weapons and stride toward the now-ajar door leading into the next chamber. As they step inside, their senses heighten, weapons poised for any threat. The sight that greets them is unsettling, mounds of bones litter the floor, with skulls that bear an eerie resemblance to some wild creature. The group exchanges puzzled glances, their eyes drawn to yet another door, firmly shut, hinting at further mysteries beyond.
(K)Bones?
(A)Did animals die here or something?
(L)I’m not sure, but there’s another door, and it's closed.
(C)If that’s the case, then where are the monsters?
(G)Well, considering these bones are the only things here, I’m guessing we’re looking at them.
(B)You’re telling me these bones are monsters?
(S)Yeah, actually they are. When I was here studying to further master my healing and medicine, people in the town would talk about fighting in these dungeons. One of the monsters they mentioned was skeleton wolves.
(L)Well, if they are skeleton wolves, why are they just a pile of bones?
(A)I guess that they’re sleeping.
(K)Lovely, I’m sure now that we’re here, they’ll be waking up any minute.
A chilling growl echoes through the air, followed by the ominous clanking of bones on the ground. The skeletal remains surrounding the group begin to stir, assembling themselves into menacing skeleton wolves with razor-sharp teeth and glowing white pupils that seem to pierce through the darkness. The creatures encircle the group, their eyes blazing with an unnatural hunger, as they assume a fierce, battle-ready stance. The group responds in kind, loading their weapons and charging their magic with a sense of urgency. Sarah tries to keep a safe distance, her eyes wide with fear, as the skeleton wolves close in and begin to lunge at everyone. Kate takes the initiative, unleashing bolts of ice that shatter on impact, sending shards of frost flying in all directions. Barth follows suit, his own ice magic striking true, as the skeleton wolves charge forward with a deafening chorus of growls and snarls. Larry reacts swiftly, his sword flashing in the dim light as he decapitates a skeleton wolf, its skull shattering on the ground, its bones collapsing into a lifeless heap. Cormac, however, finds himself beset by a wolf that bites down on his leg, causing him to cry out in agony. Kate swiftly turns to face the attacker, charging an ice bolt that strikes the wolf with precision, causing it to yelp in pain and release Cormac from its deadly grip. Without hesitation, Kate unleashes a lightning bolt that strikes the wolf with incredible force, sending it flying across the room, its bones scattering in all directions. The group continues to fight, their movements a blur of steel, magic, and determination, as they battle to survive the undead onslaught. Amid the fight, Sarah calls out to Cormac and beckons him so she can treat his leg.
(S)Cormac, come to me so I can heal you!
Cormac hobbles and limps over to Sarah, urgency in his movements as he escapes the chaos of battle. He sits down on the ground, clutching his injured leg, grunting and wincing with each pulse of pain. Without hesitation, Sarah kneels and dives into her healing supplies, her hands quickly working to mend Cormac’s wound. Meanwhile, the skirmish rages on, Gordo darts through the fray, his agility allowing him to weave around the room. He unleashes a flurry of powerful punches and kicks against the skeletal wolves, watching as they revert to their lifeless forms. On another front, Ashley harnesses her wind alchemy, pushing back the relentless horde that surges toward her. With a determined focus, she loads her cylinder with shimmering water crystals, aiming it at the advancing enemies. In a spectacular display, she unleashes a blizzard-like assault, freezing the attackers in their tracks as they charge forward.
(A)Larry, I froze this horde. Are you able to shatter these bastards?!
(L)That sounds like fun. Be right there, my red-hot flame.
Larry pivots to face the swarm of skeletal wolves barreling toward him, his swords slicing through the air with precision as he cleaves their bony forms, dispatching them in a single, fluid motion. With adrenaline coursing through his veins, he dashes over to Ashley, spotting the frozen beasts looming before her. Without hesitation, Larry raises his blades high and delivers a mighty strike against the icy prison, shattering it into a flurry of shards. The remnants of the skeleton wolves crumble alongside the ice, vanquished by Larry's relentless assault.
(A)Amazing as always, my love.
(L)Only for you, my beautiful flame.
Larry and Ashley press on, battling the relentless skeleton wolves, while their companions engage in their own fierce struggles. Meanwhile, Sarah diligently tends to Cormac’s injury. Kate, seizing the moment, launches herself at the remaining foes that Cormac had been facing. With a fierce determination, she charges her formidable ice spear and hurls it into the fray, freezing the advancing horde in their tracks as they lunge toward her. She stops and steadies herself, both hands poised close together at her side, gathering energy for her massive lightning spell. The air crackles with anticipation until she spots the brilliant flash of light. With a swift motion, she thrusts her hands forward, unleashing a torrent of lightning that not only shatters the ice but obliterates the skeleton wolves as well. Inspired by her display, Barth readies his own ice spear, launching it at the hordes he confronts before calling out to Gordo for support.
(B)Gordo, do you think you can use your fists to break this ice?
(G)Sure thing!
Gordo meticulously navigates the room, his agility on full display as he lunges at the mass of frozen skeleton wolves. With fierce determination, he unleashes his mighty fist upon the icy block, shattering it and vanquishing the last of the menacing creatures. The team stands victorious, surveying the scattered bones to ensure no foe remains before the door to the next corridor rises open. As the passageway reveals itself, the group shifts their focus to Sarah and Cormac, hurrying towards them with worry etched on their faces for Cormac's well-being.
(K)Hey, Cormac, are you alright?
(C)[grunts] Other than being in pain from the bite, I think I’m okay.
(S)Here, drink one of these, it’ll ease the pain.
(C)Thank you, Sarah. Did you get them all?
(L)Yeah, we did some strategizing and froze them and then attacked, as you saw.
(C)That was smart thinking, I’m sorry I couldn’t help you, Kate.
(K)Don’t even worry, Cormac, I took care of the group you were fighting.
(C)Thank you for your help, Kate, so I could get treated.
(K)It was no problem at all. I’m just glad you got to safety.
(S)I shouldn’t be long and then we can go, but I don’t think Cormac should be doing much after this. His wound is pretty deep and he may not be able to walk much.
(C)I’ll be fine. I’ll just limp through the rest of this dungeon.
(L)Just take it easy, Cormac. I’m sure Deirdre would want you to come home to her in one piece.
(C)Yeah, if I’m lucky, but it seems the rooms get tougher as we go further.
(B)I noticed that as well, the monsters are getting more vicious and aggressive.
(A)Then we’ll just have to fight more viciously and aggressively.
(G)The strategy we just used was brilliant, and we cleared the room pretty smoothly.
(K)Well, this is only the third room. It just might get tougher from here, like Cormac said.
(B)Let’s take a rest for a bit until Sarah is done treating him.
(C)You guys go without me.
(G)Absolutely not. We’re resting and waiting for you.
(C)You guys need to get to Merig and Sean, though.
(A)It’ll be fine. We need you and Sarah. We can’t leave you behind.
(L)And since you use a ranged weapon, it’ll be easier for you. You can just sit and shoot your bolts at the monsters and we’ll make sure they don’t attack you.
(K)I’ll make sure of that, don’t worry.
(B)Alright, then it’s settled. We work together to fight the monsters while Kate shields Cormac so he can sit and shoot his bolts.
(K)Any monsters that get close to me, I’ll hit them with my magic.
(G)Sounds like a plan and hopefully the next thing we’re up against doesn’t bite.
(A)Yeah, let’s hope, but I guess we don’t get to choose what we fight.
(L)Either way, we’ve got a plan, so we should be all right no matter what we’re fighting next.
(S)Alright, that should just about do it. I did the best I could to clean it and wrap it up in a bandage.
(C)You did just fine. The pain isn’t so bad now thanks to the potion you gave me.
(S)Good, do you feel you can stand up?
(C)I’ll sure as hell do my best since I’ll just be limping the rest of the way.
(B)Let’s try to get you up then and we’ll progress to the next room and sit you down in the corner so Kate can watch out for you.
(G)I’ll help you.
Barth and Gordo make their way over to Cormac, who remains seated on the floor. They extend their hands, and he grips them tightly as they help him rise to his feet. Although he manages to stand, he has a noticeable limp, prompting Barth and Gordo to support him as they all begin to move forward. Together with the rest of the group, they navigate down the corridor toward the next room. Upon entering, Barth and Gordo guide Cormac to a corner and gently lower him back to the ground. Kate steps in closer, positioning herself protectively in front of Cormac while Barth and Gordo move off to prepare their weapons. As the group scans the room, they find it devoid of any monsters. Kate faces Cormac and knees to take a moment and check in on him, ensuring he’s alright.
(K)How are you feeling?
(C)Better than I was, don’t worry about me.
(K)I kind of have to since I’ll be guarding you from the monsters.
(C)I’ll do my best with my crossbow.
(K)That’s good enough. I’ve got you covered.
(C)Thanks, Kate, you’re a lifesaver.
(K)Don’t thank me yet, not until we fight the monsters in this room. If there are any, that is.
(B)Yeah, this is the same thing that happened in the first room.
(L)Which means, we have to look up and see if there’s anything hiding on the ceiling.
(G)I don’t see anything, it’s actually pretty dark up there like it was in the room with the bats.
(A)Yeah, I can’t see a thing up there.
(K)Same here and I don’t see any glowing eyes, either.
(S)Maybe something is up there. It’s just not bats this time.
(B)I guess we’ll see. Sarah, stay close to Kate so she can protect you, along with Cormac.
(S)Of course, I’ll be here if anyone gets hurt again.
(L)Just be on guard, odds are there’s something hiding up there.
(K)Is there a way to get some light so we can see?
(B)I can try, I’ll toss a fire bolt up there.
Barth gathers his energy, summoning a fire bolt spell, and raises his arm high, unleashing the fiery orb towards the ceiling. The blazing sphere soars above the group, casting flickering light as they gaze upward in anticipation. For a brief moment, the small fireball illuminates the overhead darkness, exposing the lurking monsters hidden in the shadows. Gasps escape their lips as they catch sight of the creatures, but Kate's expression shifts to sheer terror, her eyes widening in horror just as the fire bolt collides with the stone ceiling. Her voice trembles with fear as she speaks, and Cormac's worried gaze locks onto her, sensing her growing panic.
(K)Oh no, you’ve got to be kidding me,
(C)Kate, what is it?
(K)I’m not completely sure, but I think I saw something up there and I’m very much afraid of them.
(S)What did you see?
(K)I’m pretty sure I saw spiders, and they had spikes on them.
(S)Laghodessa
(K)I’m sorry, what?
(S)They’re called Spiked Laghodessas and they’re vicious. Thankfully, they aren’t venomous, but they are aggressive.
(B)Oh boy, then my firebolt just pissed them off.
(L)Get ready.
(A)We’ve got fire if we need it.
(G)I’m not sure if my martial arts will be all that effective against them. They’re practically giant bugs and they can shoot us with their webs.
(B)Good thing I’m wearing my special gloves. I’ll be able to punch them with fire and they’ll amplify my spells.
(K)I’m very much afraid of spiders, like deathly afraid.
(B)Don’t worry, sis, just take care of Cormac and Sarah. We’ll try our best to stop them from getting to you.
(C)Uh, Kate?
(K)What?
(C)Behind you.

A wave of terror washes over Kate, her complexion paling as she spins around, her gaze drawn upward. There, suspended on a silken thread, is a descending Laghodessa, looming ominously above her, eventually landing on the ground in front of her. A piercing scream escapes her lips as she stumbles backward, only to lose her footing and crash to the ground. The monstrous spider inches closer, while Kate frantically scrambles to put as much space between them as possible. Meanwhile, Cormac swiftly readies his crossbow, loading a bolt with steady hands, his sights set firmly on the large advancing arachnid.
(C)Kate, get down!
Kate dives to the ground, rolling onto her belly to get a clear view of the spider. Cormac continues to aim, firing the bolt with precision. The bolt soars through the air, striking the spider and killing it, the bolt's tip embedding deep within the creature's body. The spider lets out a deafening shriek, its legs flailing wildly as it thrashes about in agony, before finally succumbing to death, its legs curling up in a macabre pose. But the group's respite is short-lived, as more spiders begin to descend from the dark ceiling like a nightmarish rain, their beady eyes glowing with malevolent intent. The group readies themselves for battle, loading their weapons and charging their spells with a sense of urgency. Ashley loads her cylinder with fire crystals, while Barth's hands weave intricate patterns as he charges his fire spell. Cormac swiftly reloads his crossbow, his eyes scanning the horizon for the next target. Kate scrambles to her feet, her hands shaking as she charges her fire spell, while Larry raises his swords, their blades glinting in the dim light. Gordo assumes a battle-ready stance, his eyes fixed intently on the approaching horde. The spiders, their fangs bared and front legs raised, charge forward with an unnatural hunger, their eight legs propelling them across the floor with an eerie speed. The group launches a fierce counterattack, Larry swinging his swords in wide arcs as the spiders lunge forward. But he misses his mark, the spider dodging his blade with an unnatural agility, before leaping onto his back, its fangs bared and ready to strike. Cormac swiftly aims his crossbow, firing a bolt that strikes the spider with deadly precision, its body shrieking in agony as it falls to the ground, its legs curling up in a deathly pose.
(L)Thanks, pal, that thing almost bit me!
(C)Come over here to us. I’ll take care of the ones on this side of the room!
(K)You and I can fight side by side. If my magic misses, you can swing your swords at them.
(L)Good idea, I’m coming over.
Larry dashes toward Kate and the group, positioning himself beside her as he brandishes his swords high. Kate, her fire spell crackling with energy, stands ready. Suddenly, three menacing spiders fix their gaze on them, scuttling forward with fangs bared. In a swift motion, Kate unleashes her fire bolt, igniting one of the creatures in a blaze that consumes it instantly. Meanwhile, Cormac steadies his crossbow, taking aim at another spider that lunges toward them. With a precise shot, he pierces its thorax, eliciting a shriek as it convulses and collapses. As Kate attempts to recharge her fire spell, a third spider rushes in. Without hesitation, Larry leaps into action, swinging his blades with fierce determination, slicing the spider cleanly in half before it can reach them.
(K)Thank you, Larry, I’m so sorry I wasn’t quick enough.
(L)Don’t worry, Kate, remember we’re fighting together, we got this.
(K)Right, I’m just so scared of these things, my heart is racing.
(L)You can do this, Kate, I believe in you. Just keep using your fire spells and think about rescuing Merig.
(K)That’s what matters right now. I have to put my fears aside. My biggest fear is losing my husband, even bigger than my fear of these spiders.
(L)That’s the spirit, now get ready.
(K)Right.
Kate and Larry fight in tandem, swords and spells a blur of motion as they take down spider after spider. Meanwhile, the rest of the group battles the arachnid horde on the other side of the room, their movements a symphony of attacks and determination. Ashley unleashes a fiery explosion, her fire alchemy engulfing the spiders in a blaze of flames, their bodies incinerated in an instant. Barth rapidly fires off firebolt spells, striking down spiders with precision, their charred remains curling up in death. Gordo uses his powerful kicks to hold back the tide of spiders, his feet connecting with a sickening crunch. In the midst of the fight, a spider drops down from above, landing on Gordo's back like a dark, eight-legged specter. Gordo reaches back, trying to grab the spider, but it sinks its fangs deep into his arm, causing him to yell out in agony. Barth sees his distress and reacts swiftly, charging his ice bolt spell with a swift snap cast. He hurls the frozen orb at the spider, striking it with incredible force, forcing it to release Gordo from its fangs. The spider flies through the air, its legs curling up in death, as it lands on the ground and dies. Gordo stands tall, his arm wounded, but his spirit unbroken, as the group continues to fight on, their bond and determination driving them forward against the spider horde.
(B)Are you alright?!
(G)No, I’m bleeding!
(B)Head over to Sarah, quick!
(G)Alright, are you two going to be okay here?!
(B)We’ll be fine, just go and get treated!
(G)Okay, be careful, you two!
(A)We got this, Gordo!
Gordo grips his injured arm, the bite marks still fresh, as he hurries towards Sarah and the others. Meanwhile, Barth and Ashley are locked in a fierce battle against the swarming spiders. As Gordo reaches the group, he reveals his bloodied, punctured arm to Sarah, who swiftly rolls up his sleeve to examine the extent of the injury.
(G)[grunts] It hurts so bad, it feels like its fangs punctured bones.
(S)That looks nasty. Luckily these Laghodessa aren’t venomous, so it’ll be easy to treat you. Come over here and sit next to Cormac.
Sarah carefully takes hold of Gordo and ushers him to safety, guiding him behind Kate and Larry as he sits down on the ground beside Cormac for treatment. With determination, she digs into her healing supplies, selecting the necessary items to tend to Gordo’s injury. Before she applies disinfectant and a bandage, she hands him a pain-reducing potion to ease his pain. Gordo happily drinks half of the liquid, and feeling generous, offers the rest to Cormac, who eagerly accepts and finishes the bottle.
(C)Are you okay, buddy?
(G)I’ll feel better after this potion kicks in.
(S)Just take deep breaths, okay? I’ll get to work on your arm. This disinfectant will sting, so bear with me.
(G)[wince] Damn, that spider got me good. Now my fists are useless.
(C)You’re just fine, you still have the other fist and your feet. Don’t think I haven’t seen you strengthening your kicks using those training dummies.
(G)[chuckles] I knew I would be more useful if I did that.
(C)You were useful before that, but I understand if you wanted to train for it.
(G)I’m sorry, I didn’t expect to get bit.
(K)Don’t even stress about it, Gordo, we got you covered.
(L)Just sit tight and let Sarah treat you.
(G)Right, thank you, Sarah.
(S)That’s what I’m here for. This wound is just as bad as Cormac’s. It'll take some time to clean.
(K)Take all the time you need, Sarah.
Sarah remains focused on treating Gordo, while Kate and Larry stand vigilant, keeping watch against the encroaching spiders. Across the room, Barth and Ashley are still locked in combat when a swarm of spiders scuttles past them, heading straight for the others at the safe zone. Barth catches sight of the creeping menaces and prepares to unleash his formidable fire spell, positioning his hands at his sides as he conjures energy. Just as the spiders draw near, a brilliant flash ignites, and he thrusts his hands forward, unleashing a fiery explosion. The blast sends the swarm flying, obliterating them and halting their advance toward the others.
(K)Thanks, Barth, I was about to have a heart attack.
(B)Sure thing, sis, we don’t need you to get hurt.
Barth spins around and dashes back to assist Ashley, who is fiercely unleashing her fire alchemy against the swarm of spiders. In an instant, the horde of giant arachnids starts launching their sticky webs at Ashley's feet, sending her crashing to the ground. The relentless creatures close in on her as she struggles to reload her cylinder, but the spiders quickly bind her, ensnaring her in their silken trap. A desperate cry for help escapes Ashley's lips, sending the group into a frenzy, until Kate sprints toward them, determined to lend a hand.
(L)Ash!
(K)Oh my god, they’re going to kill her if we don’t do something!
(B)I’ve got an idea, but I need you, Kate.
(K)What do you need me to do?
(B)We need to distract them, which means we need to draw attention to ourselves.
(K)Oh god, I’m going to be chased by spiders.
(B)It’ll be okay. We’ll both charge our blaze spell and attack them. So we need to make them come after us so that Ash doesn’t get hurt by the spell.
(K)Alright, I’ll do it. How do we distract them?
(B)Throw a lightning bolt, and I’ll do it too.
(K)Let’s do it.
Kate and Barth quickly snap cast their lightning spells, electrifying the air as they target the spider horde and unleash a simultaneous lightning strike. The bolts illuminate the dimly lit room, casting eerie shadows on the walls as the spiders, momentarily stunned, cease their web-spinning assault on Ashley. The horde's attention shifts to Kate and Barth, their beady eyes fixed on the pair as they charge forward with an unnerving, skittering crawl. Undaunted, Kate and Barth swiftly conjure their powerful fire magic, charging it to maximum potency as they await the spiders' approach. The air is heavy with anticipation as the spiders close in, their twisted bodies mere feet away. Then, a flash of light appears, and in a burst of flame and fury, Kate and Barth unleash their massive fire spells, striking the spiders with a gigantic, blazing explosion. The creatures' shrieks fill the air as they writhe, their legs curling up in agony, before falling silent, their charred remains smoldering on the ground. As the last spiders succumb to the flames, Larry rushes to Ashley's side, his dagger at the ready. He carefully cuts through the web binding her, freeing her from its sticky grasp. With a gentle touch, he lifts her to her feet, and they share a tender, relieved embrace. Larry pulls away as his eyes scan her for any signs of injury, before he leans in, his lips meeting hers in a soft, loving kiss.
(L)Are you hurt?
(A)No, thankfully they didn’t bite me.
(L)Good, I’m so sorry, Ash.
(A)Don’t be. Kate and Barth took care of them.
(L)I know, but I should’ve stepped in.
(A)It’s fine, honey, don’t beat yourself up.
(L)I’ll try not to, I just thought the worst.
(A)I know, but I’m okay and that’s what matters.
(L)Thanks, you two, she would’ve gotten eaten alive if you didn’t do what you did.
(K)Of course, I couldn’t let my best friend get eaten by spiders. I put my fears aside to help her.
(B)You did great, sis. I’m proud of you.
(K)I’m just glad Ash is okay. Do you need Sarah to heal you?
(A)Maybe a pain-killing potion, I landed on my shoulder when I fell and now it hurts.
(K)Alright, she’s treating Gordo right now, but we can go see how they’re doing and get you some painkillers.
(A)Sounds good, come on, sweetheart.
(L)I’ll carry you if I have to.
(A)It’s my shoulder, not my leg, silly. I can walk just fine.
(L)But I’d carry you, anyway.
(A)[giggles] Let’s go, my shoulder really hurts.
(L)Alright, my flame.
Larry softly takes hold of Ashley, guiding her as they stroll toward Sarah and the rest of the group, with Kate and Barth following suit. As they approach the others, Larry releases Ashley, allowing her to settle down on the ground beside Sarah, who is still busy tending to Gordo’s injured arm. A short while later, Sarah completes the task, skillfully bandaging Gordo’s wound.
(S)There you go, all clean and bandaged. How do you feel, Gordo?
(G)Not too bad thanks to the painkiller. It doesn’t hurt as bad.
(S)Good, just sit and rest for a bit while I take care of Ash.
(A)I’m fine, my shoulder just hurts. Can I just get one of your potions?
(S)Sure, here you go.
(A)Thanks a bunch.
(S)Did the spiders bite you?
(A)No, thankfully, they were going to after rolling me up in webs, I’m sure they were going to suck my blood, those damn eight-legged vampires.
(K)Let’s just be thankful that didn’t happen.
(C)Hey, I noticed the door to the next room didn’t open.
(G)Yeah, I noticed that, too.
(L)We defeated all the spiders, didn’t we?
(B)I’m sure of it, the horde that Kate and I killed was the last of them.
(K)I’m going to be pissed if we missed any.
Out of nowhere, in the eerie graveyard of spiders, one of the creatures rises, its legs twitching as it surveys its surroundings. Spotting the group, it radiates fury and begins to scuttle toward them with alarming speed. Ashley shouts a warning about the approaching menace as Kate turns to face the oncoming threat, her breath hitching in a sharp gasp. The rest of the group quickly shifts their focus to the relentless spider barreling toward them. As it closes the distance, Kate glares fiercely at the beast, summoning her formidable thunder spell. With a decisive strike, she brings the creature crashing down, watching as it curls up in defeat, lifeless. At that moment, the door to the next room rises open, beckoning them forward.
(K)Now we have defeated them all.
(B)Quick thinking, sis, glad you conquered your fear of spiders.
(K)Oh trust me, I’m still afraid of them. I would just rather save my husband than give in to the fear.
(B)That’s love for you.
(K)Cormac, and Gordo, do you two want to continue resting here?
(C)I think I’m okay to fight, just sit me down on the ground again and I’ll shoot whatever we’re fighting.
(G)I’m fine, it was just my arm, I still have my legs.
(K)Alright, let’s rest for a bit and then head to the next room.
(A)Sounds good to me, this painkiller is starting to help.
(L)Good, just rest, sweetheart.
(A)Okay, I love you.
(L)I love you, too.
The group pauses for a brief moment, catching their breath before venturing down the dim corridor toward the next room. Barth supports Cormac, helping him shuffle along. As they near the door, they step inside, their eyes wide and faces etched with fear. The unmistakable sound of swords being drawn echoes in the air, accompanied by the clanking of metallic footsteps that suggest armor, yet the source is neither human nor goblin.
(L)Oh boy, I was hoping for a challenge and I guess we got it.
(K)Are those…skeletons?
(B)But, they’re not bone.
(G)They’re metal skeletons.
(C)And they have swords.
(A)How lovely and there’s another door. But this one is bigger than the others.
(S)It looks like we’ve reached the last room.
(B)I really think Cormac and Gordo should rest in the corridor or the previous room while we take care of them.
(C)I’ll be fine.
(B)No, you won’t. There are so many of these skeletons. One wrong move and you’re dead, the same goes for you, Gordo. You can’t fight with your fists. This is obviously a task for Larry and we’ll just be here to back him up. Maybe Kate and I can throw some more fire to melt these bastards.
(G)He’s right, Cormac, we’re practically useless.
(L)They’re both right, Cormac, go and rest in the last room we were just in, you and Gordo both. That’s an order from your acting commander.
(C)...Alright, we’ll go. Just take these things down and go get Merig.
(L)We’ve got this, don’t worry.
(G)I’ll help Cormac. I still have my other arm to walk him back.
(B)Alright, you’ll be safe there.
Gordo strides over to Cormac and Barth, and Barth releases Cormac as he holds onto Gordo instead. Gordo quickly wraps his arm around Cormac, anchoring him firmly to avoid any tumbles. Together, they make their way back to the earlier room, seeking refuge as Cormac limps along, leaning heavily on Gordo for stability. Meanwhile, the rest of the group shifts their focus back to the skeletons, preparing their weapons for the impending confrontation.
(K)First, it was skeleton wolves. Now we’re fighting skeletons that are made of metal and have swords. How lovely. We definitely found a formidable opponent for Larry.
(L)I can take these assholes, no problem. Kate, Barth, be on standby with your fire magic.
(K)You got it.
(B)Sure thing, buddy.
(L)My red-hot flame, would you like to fight alongside me?
(A)I would love nothing more than for two flames to come together and set these skeletons on fire. I’d be more than happy, my love.
(L)I’d expect nothing less from my future wife.
(A)Anything for my future husband.
Ashley loads her cylinder with fire crystals, her eyes fixed intently on the horde of metal skeletons before her. Larry stands tall, his swords at the ready, as they prepare to face the onslaught. Kate and Barth stand by, their magic at the ready, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. The skeletons charge forward, their metal swords glinting in the dim light, as Larry and Ashley meet them head-on. Larry clashes swords with the skeletons, his blades ringing out as he fights to hold back the tide. Ashley unleashes a stream of flames, her fire alchemy spitting forth a blazing torrent that engulfs the skeletons. The metal creatures attempt to dodge, but some are caught in the inferno, their bodies heating up and melting like wax. The surviving skeletons close in on Ashley, their swords raised, but she stands firm, her cylinder at the ready. She blocks their attacks with the small shield attached to one of her cylinders, counterstriking with precision, before loading her main cylinder once more. She unleashes another blast of flames, pushing the skeletons back. Meanwhile, Larry battles on, his swords continuing to clash with the skeletons as he fights to gain ground. He pushes them back and attempts to slash their bones, but is unsuccessful at inflicting any damage on them, and they refuse to yield. Kate and Barth see their friend struggling and call out, offering their aid.
(B)Do you need one of us over there, buddy?!
(L)I might, the only thing I can do is swing my swords, but it’s not doing much damage at all since these guys are made of the same material!
(B)Alright, I’m on my way! Stay here, sis, in case Ash needs help. You stay safe as well, Sarah.
(S)I’ll be just fine here with Kate.
(K)That’s right and I’ll be here. Go and help Larry.
Barth sprints to Larry's side, his hands ready as he charges his fire spells. He unleashes a barrage of flames, striking the skeletons and halting their relentless assault on Larry. The metal creatures stumble, their advance faltering, as Larry seizes the opportunity to strike back. His swords slice through the air, cutting down the weakened skeletons one by one. But amidst the chaos, a lone skeleton breaks free from the horde, its sword raised high. Barth's eyes dart towards the threat, but he's too engrossed in the battle to react. The skeleton strikes, its blade biting deep into Larry's left arm. Larry's cry of pain echoes through the room and he stumbles to the ground from the pain, as Barth continues to fight, unable to assist his fallen friend. Kate's panic is palpable as she rushes to Larry's aid, her hands shaking as she charges her fire bolt. She hurls the spell at the offending skeleton, forcing it to retreat. With the immediate danger neutralized, Kate rushes to Larry's side, helping him to his feet as they run as fast as possible towards Sarah. Sarah beckons them to the corner of the room, her eyes filled with concern. Larry collapses onto the ground, his arm throbbing in agony, as Sarah gets to work treating his wound. She hands him a pain-reducing potion, which he downs in one swift motion before Sarah begins to clean and dress the injury. Barth continues to fight, his fire spells illuminating the dark room, as he battles to hold back the skeletal horde.
(S)Just take deep breaths and that potion should help with the pain.
(L)Thank you, Sarah.
(K)I’m sorry, Larry, I should’ve stepped in as well.
(L)Don’t sweat it, Kate, you saved me from further damage and rushed me over here. You helped me more than you think.
(S)I’m about to disinfect it, so it’ll sting.
(L)[wince] Yep, that stings a lot.
(S)It’ll be over soon, I promise, just talk to us to get your mind off of it.
(A)What happened?!
(K)Larry got wounded, but we’re taking care of him.
(A)Alright, I trust you two with my future husband!
(S)I’m taking care of him!
(K)You know we wouldn’t let him bleed out!
(A)You’re the best, Sarah! You too, Kate.
(K)We love you, too, Ash!
(L)That asshole got me good. But I can feel the potion starting to kick in.
(S)Good, just sit still and relax as best as you can.
(L)You don't have to tell me twice.
(S)Looking at this wound, you might have to go to the healer here in Dunbarton. I’ll try dressing it as best as I can, but after we rescue Merig, we’ll need to take you to Manus. He’s a wonderful healer in Dunbarton. He was actually my mentor when I studied here.
(L)I trust you, Sarah. I’m sure you’ll do a wonderful job like you always do. You can go help Barth if you want to, Kate.
(K)But if I do, a stray skeleton could come over here and attack you two. And you can't fight like this, Larry.
(L)We’ll be fine.
(K)Your future wife would have my head if I just left you here and something bad happened to you. That woman over there is a force to be reckoned with and I don't want to piss her off anymore than you do.
(L)[chuckles] I guess you're right, none of us wants that.
(K)Exactly, now I'm here to talk to you to distract you while Sarah treats you.
(L)You’re the commander’s wife. I guess I have to listen to you.
(K)[smiles] That's my only title. It doesn't mean you have to listen to me.
(L)Hey, you made my best friend happy. You are of utmost importance. You're a friend. You know what's best and I realize I'm wrong.
(K)It’s okay to be wrong sometimes, just like I thought back in Taill was the last I would see of Sean. I was wrong and I know that now.
(L)But you're not at fault. A piece of shit like him doesn’t stop trying to get what he wants. That's why we're here to make sure he doesn't and to protect you, as well as break the seal and rescue Merig.
(K)Thank you, Larry. I was afraid I would be hated because you all got dragged into this mess.
(L)Hey, we dragged ourselves into this mess because we care about you, Kate, and we didn’t want you to get hurt. You're important to us, too, but Merig will always love you more than his own life.
(K)I understand, Larry, thank you for being a part of my life.
(L)And thanks for being a part of mine and Merig’s.
(K)Of course, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Kate remains by Larry and Sarah's side, shielding them from any wandering skeletons as Ashley and Barth engage in battle. With a swift motion, Ashley's hand thrusts forward as she unleashes a stream of fire alchemy, sending several skeletons crashing to the ground in a molten metal heap. The tide of the battle begins to turn against them, but Ashley, undeterred, loads her cylinder and inches closer to the advancing horde. With a fierce determination, she ignites an explosive burst of flames, propelling the skeletons backward and vanquishing even more of the undead. Pausing for a moment, a spark of inspiration ignites in Ashley's mind, and she calls out to Barth, eager to share her brilliant idea.
(A)Hey, Barth, you know that big fire spell you used on the spiders in the last room?!
(B)Yeah, why?!
(A)I have a similar alchemy skill I can use if you want to bring all of these assholes together and hit them simultaneously!
(B)That’s a good idea. We’ll go to the other side of the room and do that. They’ll chase us over there! We can also prevent them from targeting Kate, Larry, and Sarah.
(A)Alright, stop attacking, and let’s go!
(B)You got it, let’s just hope they don’t kill us!
Ashley and Barth abruptly halt their assault, pivoting to sprint across the room, distancing themselves from Kate and the others. The skeletons momentarily pause their attack, observing the duo as they dash to the far side, before regrouping and pursuing them with weapons brandished, transforming into a menacing swarm. As the two reach the opposite wall, Barth immediately begins to channel his formidable blaze spell, while Ashley quickly loads her cylinder with a fire crystal, aiming at the advancing horde. The skeletons draw nearer, and Barth, sensing the imminent threat, notices the flickering light of his spell intensifying just before the horde closes in. In a decisive moment, Barth thrusts his hands forward, and Ashley unleashes her potent fire alchemy. The two unleash their attacks in perfect unison, striking the swarm of skeletons and igniting a colossal explosion that engulfs the horde in searing flames, scattering bones and limbs in every direction. Sarah conjures a protective shield, forming a magical bubble that safeguards her, Kate, and Larry from the flying debris as the skeletal remains melt away or are flung across the room, effectively vanquishing the horde. Moments later, the massive door rises open, revealing the final chamber of the dungeon. As Sarah's shield dissipates, Barth and Ashley shift their focus to the others, hurrying to their side. Having finished tending to Larry’s injured arm, Sarah watches as he rises to his feet, just as Ashley approaches and envelops him in a warm embrace. Larry reciprocates the hug, pulling away as their eyes lock in a moment of connection. He cradles her face, and with a shared smile, he leans in to kiss Ashley.
(A)Are you okay?
(L)I’m just fine, what about you? That was a pretty big explosion.
(A)I’ll be okay, my ears are ringing, but it’ll go away.
(L)Thank you, my red-hot flame. You were my hero this time, you as well, Barth. Thank you both.
(B)Of course, are you all okay?
(S)We’re fine. I used my magic shield to protect us.
(K)Sarah was the hero, too.
(L)Thank you, Sarah, for treating me.
(S)That’s what I’m here for. But I wouldn’t recommend fighting much with that arm injured.
(B)This means you’ll have to sit this one out, buddy. It’ll be Kate, Ash, and me fighting Sean with Sarah on standby if we get hurt.
(A)Are you sure you don’t want to rest here?
(L)No, I’ll go with you, I still have my other arm that works. I can fight with one sword.
(K)Alright, we can rest for a bit before we go in. Barth, Larry, is my husband in that room?
(B)[sniff] Yeah, his scent is strong, he’s in there.
(L)I smell him, too, and that piece of shit, Sean.
(A)Then we should go in now.
(K)Are you all okay with going in with me?
(B)Absolutely, sis, we wouldn’t let you go in alone. He’s my little brother and your husband.
(L)And my best friend, Sean, won’t get away with this either. Once we leave here, he’s coming with us and he’ll be locked up for good this time.
(B)But we’ll rough him up. First, I’m sure Merig will enjoy doing that along with the rest of us.
(A)Hell yeah, let’s go, there’s no time to waste.
(K)She’s right, let’s go get my husband.
(B)You lead the way, sis. We’ll be right behind you and we’ll fight alongside you.
Kate leads the way, her footsteps echoing through the darkness as she approaches the pitch-black doorway. The others follow closely behind, their hearts pounding in anticipation. As they enter the massive room, the torches along the walls erupt into flame, casting flickering shadows across the space. The group's eyes adjust to the sudden light, revealing a sight that makes their blood run cold. Sean stands tall, his eyes gleaming with an otherworldly intensity, as Merig, his eyes burning crimson, growls low in his throat. His stance is aggressive, his body tense and ready to strike. Kate and the others approach cautiously, their faces set in determined scowls. Larry draws his sword, its blade glinting in the torchlight, while Ashley loads her cylinder, her hands moving with deadly precision. The group halts about twenty feet away from Sean, their eyes locked on the pair before them. The air is heavy with tension, the silence oppressive, as they await the inevitable confrontation. Merig's growl grows louder, his eyes fixed on the group with an unnatural hunger, as Sean's smile widens, his eyes glinting with malevolent intent. The stage is set for a final, brutal showdown.
(SE)[chuckles] I wouldn’t get too close, he might bite you.
(K)Let him go, Sean, release him from his possession or we will take that seal from you by force and destroy it ourselves.
(SE)So you caught onto that, huh?
(B)We paid a visit to Cormac’s old bandit camp. We talked to Ingo, the new leader, and he told us everything.
(L)You sneaky bastard, planting that Fomor seal on Merig. Why did you do it?
(SE)As if that’s any of your business.
(B)Excuse me? First of all, that’s my little brother you have hostage and possessed, so it is definitely my business. He is also Kate’s husband, so it’s her business as well. He’s the commander of the Royal Guards and Larry is his second in command, which means it’s his business and everyone else that joined us in coming here who he fights alongside and protects.
(L)You made it everyone’s business and we know why you did this.
(A)You did this to get back at Kate for leaving you and you know it. Don’t think I don’t remember bludgeoning you over the head when you broke into my house and almost killed her. I’ll never forgive you for what you did to her and her unborn child. You deserve to be locked up and tortured.
(SE)You act as if I knew she was pregnant.
(A)You wouldn’t have cared, Sean. All you cared about was hurting Kate and controlling her. You didn’t deserve her. She’s a better person than you are and Merig has shown her the love that you never did.
(SE)I showed her love.
(K)In the beginning, you did, but you showed me your true colors as time went on and I realized it was all just a mask you wore. We lived together, and you started treating me like shit, always putting me down and shouting at me for no reason. And then you beat me into oblivion and it took me weeks to recover and then I lost my baby after you strangled me. Merig has done none of that and is the polar opposite of you and because of him, I’m happier than I’ve ever been. Now let my husband go and we’ll forget this ever happened. I love him and our souls are connected, so leave us alone and let us live our happy life, because I’d rather be married to him than you.
(SE)You weren’t supposed to marry a Fomor, Kate. I wasn’t done with you.
(K)Well, it's none of your business who I marry. It’s my life and you don’t own me. There’s nothing you can do about it, Sean, because I was done with you. You got put away, and I saw that as my opportunity to better my life. But then mom got sick, and I took care of her and then I left Taill to start a new life and hopefully forget about you. It was the best decision I ever made, and meeting Merig and us falling in love was just the icing on the cake.
(SE)I told you that you would regret leaving me and I meant it.
(B)So it seems like you’ve made your decision, then.
(K)I regret nothing, Sean, I’ve already told you that. I’m not weak like I used to be and I have people here willing to fight alongside me. I’m not afraid of you anymore.
(L)Let Merig go, or you’ll be the one to regret it, you bastard.
(A)I’ll do much worse than hitting you over the head this time.
(B)That’s my brother you’re messing with. I’ll kill anyone over my little brother.
(SE)Even your own brother? I can easily make him fight you. He’s under my command, after all.
(L)You piece of shit! Let him go, or I’ll kill you!
(B)I won’t hurt my brother. It’s not his fault he’s in this state.
(A)You’re controlling him, just like you want to control Kate. You’re sick, Sean, all you want is control.
(L)I refuse to fight my best friend, but I’ll fight you, Sean, you damn coward!
(K)And I definitely won’t fight my husband, so let him go and fight us.
(SE)What fun would that be if I didn’t just have Merig fight for me? You'd have no choice but to fight him.
(B)You really are a piece of shit, Sean, you’re lower than Fomors.
(SE)No, you Fomors are lower than me.
(L)Really? Because we actually coexist with humans? I guess you don’t like that fact. Well, too bad. Merig and I lived in the city and trained for years to become Royal Guards for the queen, and she gave us our ranks. We fight to protect the city and she holds us in her highest of regards, so technically, we’re better than you. You’re the one lower than us, Sean.
(SE)I will never acknowledge a Fomor being equal to me. Humans are above you filthy goblins.
(K)You take that back. These goblins you call filthy are the very goblins who have laid down their lives to protect me and others. Merig literally died in my arms because he protected me from being killed. I revived him because I love him and I can’t imagine my life without him. Barth protected me from being kidnapped, but it happened in the end. But at least he risked himself to do it in the first place. Larry has been an amazing friend and a wonderful companion for Ash, and he, too, risks his life to protect people. All the goblins in my life are wonderful people, and they are a thousand times better than you’ll ever be, Sean.
(SE)No, goblins aren’t people, they’re monsters.
(K)No, Sean, you’re the monster. Just think about what you did to me and the impact it had on me.
(SE)You needed to learn your place. After all, I was going to marry you and you wouldn’t have had any choice.
(K)No, that’s not what a relationship is about, Sean. With Merig, my place is by his side, in his arms, showing me more love than I could ever ask for and me showing my love to him in return. He treats me with kindness and we are equals. He doesn’t force me to do anything I don’t want to.
(B)I’m sure that makes you jealous, doesn’t it? Jealous that someone other than you is kissing her and holding her and giving her the love she deserves after putting up with a piece of shit like you. But how much of it was real on your part?
(K)I truly loved you at one point, Sean, but I stopped loving you after you treated me the way you did.
(L)I think your definition of love differs from reality, Sean, and it seems you aren’t very in tune with reality since you’re so convinced that you’re going to steal Kate away from Merig or get your revenge for her leaving you.
(A)She’s a free woman, but she’s given herself to someone who treats her with love and respect. She’s free from your abuse and manipulation, so just give up and leave her alone.
(SE)Shut up! You’re all pissing me off! You leave me, Kate, and then you lie down with this filthy Fomor! Do you think that this goblin is better than me?
(K)In every single way, Sean, he’s a million times better than you. I happily married him and gave myself to him.
(SE)Well then, I’ll show you just how easily these Fomors can be controlled and how easily they'll turn against you. Attack them, you filthy goblin!
Merig snarls, his eyes blazing with fury as he locks onto the group, his focus zeroing in on Kate. With a fierce roar, he lunges forward, but Barth swiftly intervenes, positioning himself as a barrier between Merig and Kate. In a swift motion, Barth tackles Merig to the ground, grappling with him fiercely. Meanwhile, Larry dashes to Kate's side, grabbing her and rushing her to safety alongside Ashley and Sarah a few feet away. Barth struggles to contain Merig, but he begins to fight back with all his might, eventually breaking free and rising to his feet, ready to continue the confrontation as Barth regains his stance.
(B)I’m sorry, little brother, I didn't want to fight you, but I have to.
(SE)Attack the healer woman!
Merig obeys Sean's order, shifting his focus to Sarah as he prepares to rush at her. Barth, quick on his feet, sprints after him, determined to halt Merig's advance. He lunges forward, tackling Merig to the ground once more, even as Merig struggles against him. Sean's temper flares, his frustration boiling over as he draws two mana guns from his holster. With a fierce glare, he aims them at Barth, who is still wrestling with a possessed Merig.
(K)Barth, watch out, he has mana guns!
Barth glances up, his gaze locking onto Sean, who is aiming the mana guns directly at him. Releasing Merig, Barth swiftly rises to his feet and moves out of the way. In a split second, Sean pulls the trigger on the guns, but Barth swiftly evades the mana bullet, narrowly escaping its path. Without hesitation, Sean shifts his aim, now targeting Sarah, ready to unleash another barrage. In a desperate rush, Barth rushes toward her, enveloping her in his arms as he approaches, determined to shield her from the oncoming fire. As Sean fires, the mana bullets hit Barth’s back, each impact eliciting a cry of agony from him. Finally, Sean halts his assault, lowering his weapons with a smug grin, chuckling softly as Sarah's frantic voice reaches out to Barth.
(S)Barth, are you okay?!
(B)I’ll be fine, just run and get to safety.
(S)Come with me and I’ll treat you.
Sarah clutches Barth tightly as they sprint, desperately searching for shelter from Sean, who is relentlessly firing more mana bullets in their direction. They race toward the massive door they had entered through, but just as they near safety, another bullet strikes Barth in the back, eliciting yet another cry of agony from him. They finally reach the wall near the door, and Barth presses his hands against it, instinctively shielding Sarah once more as a barrage of bullets flies at them, striking Barth again. Sarah's eyes widen in fear, her heart racing as she watches Barth's expression and cries of pain.
(B)[grunts] Go Sarah, get to the door and take cover.
(S)No, I’m not leaving you. I’ll use my shield.
Sarah swiftly envelops herself and Barth in a shimmering magic shield, deflecting the hail of bullets aimed at him. With urgency, Sarah grabs Barth, and together they dash toward the expansive doorway, retreating into the previous room where she can tend to Barth’s injuries. Once inside, she gently releases him, helping Barth settle onto the floor as she kneels beside him, sifting through her bag of healing supplies. Meanwhile, the others stand in shock, their expressions darkening as they turn their ire back to Sean. Sean calls out to the possessed Merig, who rises to his feet and rushes to Sean, ready to protect him as he awaits further commands.
(SE)[chuckles] Well, now that I’ve got the healer and the brother out of the way, I can take care of you two, and then it will just be Kate and I.
(L)You sick son of a bitch, you’ll pay for that!
(SE)Well, sadly, there isn’t much you can do since this filthy goblin is protecting me under my command. All I have to do is shoot you two and it’ll all be over. And then I’ll shoot Merig and he’ll be dead, then I’ll have Kate back.
(A)You bastard, I should’ve killed you when I hit you over the head.
(L)I’ll do it. I may only be able to use one arm, but I’ll slice you in half, you piece of shit.
(K)I’ll go.
(A)What?
(K)You want me? Fine, I’ll come with you.
(SE)[smiles] Smart choice on your part.
(K)But you have to promise that you won’t hurt anyone else.
(SE)As long as your filthy friends don’t try to stop you.
(K)Fine.
(L)Kate, are you serious?
(K)[whisper] I’m doing this for a reason. Once he has me, restrain Merig, and try to get the seal from him and destroy it. If you can’t do that, I’ll try to get the seal from Sean.
(L)[whisper] We’ll do our best.
(A)[whisper] Okay, please be careful.
Kate gives a subtle nod to Ashley and Larry before pivoting towards Sean, striding confidently past Merig. As she approaches Sean, her intent is clear, she aims to snatch the seal from his pocket and destroy it, channeling a surge of lightning energy. With a fierce determination, she lunges to strike, but Sean is lightning-fast, seizing a handful of Kate's hair and holding her firmly. Undeterred, Kate clasps his wrists tightly, summoning her spell and unleashing a jolt of electricity that courses through him. Yet, to her surprise, the attack barely fazes him, and he recovers swiftly, a chuckle escaping his lips as he maintains his hold on her.
(SE)That stung a little, but I finally have you once again, Kate, and no one is going to save you this time.
Sean forcefully pushes Kate, releasing his grip on her hair as she stumbles forward. She turns to face him, and with a swift and merciless motion, Sean strikes Kate across the face with the back of his hand. The impact sends her crashing to the ground along with her glasses, her nose bleeding profusely as she struggles to catch her breath. Sean's grip closes around Kate's hair like a vice once more, dragging her to her feet. Her eyes well up with tears as he slaps her again on the other side of her face. She falls to the ground again, her lip swelling and bleeding, she's helpless and alone. Sean pulls Kate up again, his fingers tangled in her hair, holding her in a grip that's both cruel and unyielding. Kate's cries for help are muffled, her voice shaking with fear and desperation. But her friends are frozen in place, unable to intervene as long as Merig stands guard, his eyes still blazing crimson with an otherworldly fury. Sean's grip on Kate's hair tightens, his eyes flashing with a malevolent triumph as he sneers down at her. Kate's pleas are met with only silence, her voice hoarse from crying out in pain as Sean's hold on her remains unbroken.
(K)Please don't do this, Sean. You can't hurt me like this.
(SE)Watch me and your husband can watch, too. Turn around, you filthy goblin! You get to watch me get my revenge on your wife.
Sean's voice drips with malice as he commands Merig to turn and witness his cruelty. Merig obeys and turns around to face the two, his eyes fixed on Sean and Kate with an unnerving neutrality. Kate's struggles grow weaker as Sean's hand constricts her throat, her breaths coming in short, desperate gasps. Kate's face turns red, her eyes bulging as she claws at Sean's arm, desperate to break free. Merig's expression remains neutral, his eyes never leaving the scene unfolding before him. Meanwhile, Larry and Ashley watch in horror, their faces twisted in anger and helplessness. Ashley's voice rings out, her words laced with venom, shouting at Sean to stop.
(A)Sean, you sick bastard, let her go!
(L)Merig! Snap out of it. Your wife's life is in danger!
Furious, Ashley, and Larry continue to shout at Merig, desperate to break the hold of possession that grips him. But Merig remains statue-still, his eyes fixed on Kate and Sean with unnerving intensity, ignoring the pleas and cries of his friends. Kate's struggles weaken, her body trembling as Sean's grip continues to constrict her throat. Sean's smile grows wider, his eyes glinting with malicious glee as he chuckles, clearly enjoying Kate's suffering. Finally, he releases his grip on her throat, and Kate gasps for air still in Sean’s grip. Merig's expression remains unchanged, his eyes never leaving Kate as she remains helpless. The air is thick with tension, the silence oppressive, as Ashley and Larry's cries go unanswered.
(K)[cough] Sean...stop this.
(SE)Why? I'm having fun and I've got you back and I'm not letting you go this time. Your husband is watching.
(K)Merig, I know you're there, my love. Please help me, you have to or he's going to hurt the baby!
(SE)What the hell are you talking about?
(K)That's right, Sean, if you hurt me, you hurt the baby growing inside me. I'm pregnant, just like I was when you strangled me back then and made me lose it. I won’t let you kill this one, too.
(L)Okay, now something needs to be done, even if we have to fight Merig!
(A)Right, we don't have to kill him, we just have to restrain him.
(L)Kate, try getting through to Merig! I'm going to try grabbing him so that Ashley can get to Sean and destroy the seal!
(K)Merig, my love! You have to come back to me! I know you’re in there! You have to stop Sean! If you don't, he'll hurt me and our baby! I'm pregnant, Merig! Don't let Sean hurt our child.
The sound of Kate's words pierces the fog of possession, and Merig's face contorts in a mixture of pain and confusion. His crimson eyes flicker, momentarily returning to their natural state, as he grunts and staggers backward. The sight of Sean's smirking face and Kate's bloody, distressed expression sparks a surge of recognition and horror within Merig. With a pained cry, Merig clutches his head, his eyes scrunched shut as if trying to ward off the agony. Merig shouts at Sean, his voice a mix of raw anger, and anguish, as he struggles to break free from the lingering grasp of possession.
(M)[grunts] Sean! You piece of shit![grunts] You let my wife go!
(K)Merig! Help!
(SE)That can’t be.
(K)Merig, attack Sean!
(M)[grunts] I can't, he still has that seal![grunts] Someone has to destroy it!
(L)He can't seem to fully snap out of it. Ash, when I tell you to, I need you to go after Sean. I'm going to grab Merig while he's like this, and I need you to try to destroy that seal that Sean has. Sean has a hold of Kate. He's too focused on hurting her. Can you do that for me?
(A)Okay, honey, I love you.
(L)I love you too, my red-hot flame. Be careful.
Larry seizes the moment, seeing Merig's vulnerability as he cries out in pain and continues to clutch his head. Larry waits for the perfect opportunity to grab Merig, hoping for Ashley to destroy the seal and release him from his possession once and for all. Meanwhile, Sean's cruelty knows no bounds as he throws Kate to the ground, her body landing with a sickening thud on the cold floor. She rolls over and lies there on her back, helpless and dazed. Sean towers over her as he lifts his foot, and presses it into her belly. Merig's eyes widen in horror and rage as he watches, his shouts growing louder and more desperate. Merig's voice echoes through the room, a raw and anguished cry, as he begs Sean to stop. His body trembles with rage and pain, his fists clenched in fury. The scene is one of utter chaos and despair, with Kate's cries mingling with Merig's shouts, and Larry waiting in the wings, ready to strike. Sean looks down at Kate, speaking in a menacing tone, preparing to end the life of her unborn child.
(SE)You're carrying a Fomor child inside of you. How precious. Too bad it will never see the light of day.
(M)[grunts] SEAN! If you hurt my wife and child,[grunts] I'll kill you!
(SE)Shut up! You're supposed to be possessed, you filthy Fomor! I can't allow this Fomor child to exist.
(M)[grunts] STOP!
Sean's eyes gleam with malice as he gazes down at Kate, his sinister smile twisting his face into a grotesque grin. He gradually increases the pressure on her belly with his foot, his chuckles growing louder and more menacing. Meanwhile, with Sean's attention diverted and his back turned, Larry seizes the opportunity to sprint towards Merig with a fierce determination. He tackles Merig to the ground, pinning him down with a firm grip and restraining him with all of his strength. With Merig securely in his grasp, Larry calls out to Ashley with an urgent shout, his voice echoing through the air.
(L)Ash, go now!
Ashley charges toward Sean with a fierce determination, intent on taking him down. Sean hears her footsteps, as he swiftly spins around, grabbing his mana gun from his holster at the ready. With a sudden burst of energy, he fires the weapon, striking Ashley's right arm with a blast of magic force. She crumples to the ground, her screams echoing through the air as she writhes in agony. Meanwhile, Larry's voice thunders through the scene, his anger and desperation palpable as he shouts at Sean. Still wrestling with the struggling Merig, Larry's grip remains firm despite Merig's frantic attempts to break free, adding to the chaos and tension of the moment.
(L)NO, ASH! SEAN, YOU SON OF A BITCH!
(SE)[chuckles] Did you honestly think you were going to take me down? Now, no more interruptions. This Fomor child can’t be brought into this world. Kate will be mine and she will bear human children.
Sean's twisted gaze refocuses on Kate, the mana gun pointed menacingly at her belly. He cocks the gun, ready to deliver the fatal shot, but Kate's instincts take over, and she curls into a protective ball, wrapping her arms around her belly to protect her unborn child.
