The following morning, the scene shifts to downstairs where Kate sits at the dining table, and Merig busies himself in the kitchen, preparing a light breakfast accompanied by soothing ginger tea for her stomach. Just then, a knock echoes through the house, causing Merig to pause, his ears alert. He walks over to the door and swings it open, revealing Larry and Ashley standing on the doorstep. With a welcoming smile, Merig invites them in to visit Kate.
(A)Hey, sweetie, how are you feeling?
(K)I’m alright so far. Nessa gave me something for nausea yesterday and luckily I haven’t vomited yet. Granted, I haven’t eaten anything yet, but at least I don’t feel nauseous. I’ve been sipping this ginger tea and it’s helping too.
(L)That’s good. We just wanted to stop by before we head out to take Barth on his first guard duty run.
(M)I’ve decided to stay and take care of Kate. Would you two mind taking over for me? It’ll just be for a few days.
(L)Yeah, no problem, I’ll have Cormac start his training and Ash and I will take Barth out to the forest to kick some bandit ass.
(M)Alright, I trust you both and if you need me, just come and get me.
(A)We’ll come get you if it’s anything major. Larry and I can handle small problems if needed.
(M)Good, just keep Barth in line for me, and don’t let him do anything stupid.
(L)You got it, Commander, we’ll let him get familiar with everything so he knows the routine.
(K)Barth said he wanted to come visit me today, and he said others might want to do the same.
(L)Oh for sure, once our morning duties are done, I’ll let him sneak off and come see you.
(K)Sounds good to me. I’m sure this afternoon is when everyone will want to come and visit when they’re able to.
(A)Well, of course, we and everyone else are worried about you. Just stay home and let Merig take care of you.
(K)[smiles] I will. He’s cooking me a light breakfast and some yummy tea. I hate taking up his time, though. I’ll feel bad, but it’s his choice to be here and take care of me, so I’m thankful for him.
(L)It’s not taking up any time at all, Kate. You know me, I’ve got everything under control as the second in command.
(K)I know you do, Larry, that’s what makes you so badass.
(L)Why thank you, I like tooting my own horn when it comes to being badass, cause I am.
(A)Toot away, my love, you stole my heart because of it. So brave and strong and you’ll be my husband soon enough.
(K)Which reminds me, when exactly do you two want to start planning your wedding?
(A)We’re honestly in no rush. We talked about it and we decided to wait a month or two before stressing ourselves out over it.
(L)Yeah, we want to get Barth ready so he can take my place while Ash and I are planning.
(M)I can always take your place if you need me to.
(L)You're my best man, Merig. I’ll need your help to plan.
(M)Alright, we can have Barth and Gordo take over the morning duties.
(L)I'm sure Cormac is excited about starting his training today.
(M)Yeah he is, he’ll be training with Gordo who knows what he’s doing at the training grounds. He’ll be a good sparring partner for Cormac.
(L)So Ash and I just have to deal with Barth. Sounds good to me. He should do just fine out in the forest.
(A)I’ll give him a doll and he can get used to checking my mines and traps.
(M)Sounds good, thanks, you two. I appreciate your help while I’m here taking care of Kate.
(L)It’s no problem at all, pal, you stay and take care of your wife.
(A)We love you, Kate, you relax and feel better, okay?
(K)I will, I love you both, too. Go easy on Barth. He’s a good mage. I’ve seen him kick ass.
(L)We won’t give him too much hell, he’ll be an excellent help with the daily duties.
(A)Yeah and once Cormac is good and trained, we’ll have a full team, so that will be a lot of help.
(M)It will be, I look forward to it.
(L)Well, we’ll see you both later. Get well soon, Kate.
(K)Thanks, Larry, I’ll try my best.
(M)See you both later.
Ashley and Larry exchange heartfelt farewells to Kate and Merig as they set off for their morning guard duties alongside Barth. Meanwhile, at the training grounds, Cormac and Gordo have made their entrance, eager to kick off Cormac’s training session. Cormac has selected a crossbow and a set of training bolts from the armory, while Gordo readies himself with his trusty pair of training knuckles. Together, they stand poised to embark on Cormac’s official first day of training, gathering around the training dummies.
(G)So Merig wants you to start slow. If you want, you can just head over to the targets, or we can do some light sparring.
(C)I should probably just start with the targets. I’m not sure how well I’ll hold up my crossbow since it’s been over three weeks and even longer since I got hurt. I screwed up my recovery, so I hope I can still shoot.
(G)Well, give it a try. Let’s head over to the targets.
Cormac and Gordo leave the training dummies and walk over to the range targets so Cormac can practice his shooting after so long. As they approach, Cormac chooses a target and stands in front of it, and prepares himself. He gets in position and lifts up his crossbow while he aims it at the target in front of him. Luckily, he’s able to hold it up without any trouble and focuses on the target before pulling the trigger. The bolt releases and flies through the air toward the target and hits it dead center.
(C)[smiles] Bullseye, I still got it, Gordo.
(G)Wow, nice shot. Did you feel any pain?
(C)Nope, but the crossbow was heavy, which means I need to work on getting my strength back.
(G)Alright then, that’ll be the first thing you’ll work on for your training. It shouldn't be too hard, I believe in you.
(C)Thanks, Gordo, I’ll need all the optimism I can get.
(G)That’s what I’m here for.
(C)Hey, can I ask you something?
(G)Sure, what’s up?
(C)Something has been bugging me ever since I came here, among other things.
(G)Such as?
(C)...Do you hate me?
(G)What? No, why?
(C)I put you through hell, even though you were a good friend to me. You were miserable because of me.
(G)Cormac, I forgave you along with everyone else, and I was relieved when they told me that you realized what you had done to Merig that night. I was glad to know that you snapped out of your madness before it got worse and we had the real Cormac back. You’re like a brother to me and you always will be.
(C)I’m so sorry, Gordo. I know I’ve already apologized to you. I just wanted to make sure you didn’t resent me.
(G)[sigh] I did, but after you risked your life and showed us that you were yourself again and changed for the better, my resentment faded. All I cared about was making sure you didn’t die and I’m the one that came to visit you the most at the healer. You were asleep a lot of the time, but I still sat at your bedside and talked to you. Then when you’d wake up, we’d talk more, and it helped me cope with everything.
(C)[smiles] I remember, because I heard you, even when I was sleeping. Thank you for continuing to be there for me and still being a friend despite everything.
(G)That's what friends are for. I know you would've done the same for me. But no, I don't hate you, Cormac, I just wanted the old you back, and now we have you.
(C)I'll never stoop that low again. However, there are a few bandits in the old camp that I believe are still there and they hurt Deirdre.
(G)Do you mean the story she told us about her getting attacked by bandits?
(C)Yeah, she has a huge scar on her back. She showed it to me and I was pissed when she told me what happened. The bandit stripped her and groped her naked body.
(G)Oh my god, and he was from our camp?
(C)Yeah, it was five years ago. After thinking about it for a while, I know the bandit that did that to her, Thornton.
(G)Now I remember, I always hated him. He was notorious for robbing women and stripping them of their clothes and raping them. I'm surprised you never knew about him doing all of that.
(C)If I had known, I never would've let him stay in the camp. I probably knew, I just forgot. I guess I was too fixated on my revenge. No matter, if I ever see Thornton, I'll kill him.
(G)Cormac, you aren't that person anymore. I know it's because he hurt Deirdre, but you're better than that.
(C)She deserves justice, Gordo, and I'll be the one to give it to her. When it comes to people I care about, I show no mercy.
(G)[sigh] I get it. He does deserve it, just rough him up, don't kill him. Deirdre wouldn't want to see that.
(C)You're right, I'll just beat him within an inch of his life.
(G)Just don't go too crazy. By the way, I noticed you and Deirdre have gotten pretty close to each other.
(C)[smiles] Yeah, she's amazing and I don't know what I would've done without her. I'm not entirely sure, but I think I love her.
(G)Oh, it’s obvious you both are in love, there’s no doubt about it.
(C)Well, after Deirdre and I spent the entire day together, I walked her home that night and she told me that I make her really happy after all these years of being miserable because of what happened to her. After we talked, she kissed me on my cheek where my scar is and I kissed her on her cheek, then we looked into each other's eyes and we said goodnight.
(G)Wow, I bet that was unexpected.
(C)Yeah, it was, but it felt good. She also wants to spend more days with me where it’s just us and we really enjoy spending time with each other. I told Deirdre that she makes me happy, too, and that she makes me less miserable. I told her that I’m grateful for everything she has done for me. She took care of me and she was wonderful at what she did. I can’t thank her enough and I’ll always show my gratitude to her. I even took Deirdre out into the forest yesterday and she spent time gathering flowers, something she always loved doing, until Thornton did that to her.
(G)Did anything bad happen in the forest?
(C)No, I was with her the whole time and she was scared at first, but I assured her that everything was fine and that I’d protect her. Deirdre was so happy and she didn’t leave my side the whole time. She did cry in my arms, though, because she hated that her trauma kept her from doing what she loved and she was so overwhelmed by the fact that someone cared for her enough to help her smile again and not be so scared anymore. Deirdre said that I was her light in the darkness and that I helped her see the beauty in the world again.
(G)That definitely sounds like you love each other. You make each other happy. You’ve spent time with her and you’ve brought light into Deirdre’s dark world that was created by her pain from what happened to her. You both have a story to tell from your scars and you’ve both been hurt. I’d say you became each other's light in the dark. You’ve taken away her fear and misery and showed her how beautiful the world is again, and it seems she’s done the same for you.
(C)That all makes so much sense. I do love Deirdre, a lot. So how exactly do I tell her?
(G)You already have, by doing all of those things with her. You’ve shown her that you love her, you just haven’t said the words yet.
(C)I plan on taking her back out to the forest soon. I’ll tell her then.
(G)Just be careful out there. Bandits are sneaky.
(C)If Thornton or anyone else decides to threaten her, I’ll take care of them without hesitation.
(G)Oh, did you want to go see Kate today? Merig said he was going to be staying home with her and taking care of her. I’m going to go visit her and I was going to see if you wanted to come with me.
(C)Yeah, we’ll go see her. I hope she’s okay, and it’s nothing serious.
(G)Me, too, she was so upset that she and Merig had to leave the pub so suddenly yesterday.
(C)Yeah, she thinks she ruined Merig’s big day, but of course, he cares too much about her to care about what else is going on, especially if something is wrong with her. I don’t blame him for feeling that way. I’d feel the same way if it was Deirdre.
(G)Yeah, it was no skin off our backs that they left so soon. As long as Kate got home and rested, that’s all we cared about. She’s always been so selfless and she’s neglected herself for others. She puts everyone she loves before herself and sometimes forgets to just relax and take care of herself.
(C)Yeah, I’ve noticed that, too, she’s a good person and a wonderful friend to everyone, including myself. I’ll do some training and we’ll head over to see her around the afternoon.
(G)Sounds good to me. Barth is training out in the forest with Larry and Ash. Let’s hope he doesn’t get his ass handed to him.[chuckles]
(C)Nah, he should be fine, he’s strong enough, he’ll kick ass.
(G)True, I’m sure we’ll hear about it later.
(C)Oh definitely, I look forward to it. I’ll do some more target practice and strength training, and then you and I can spar for a bit.
(G)Alright, let’s get started.
Cormac first heads over to the targets as their training session commences, regaining his strength and refining his crossbow shooting skills. Meanwhile, in the heart of the forest, Larry and Ashley are busy with their morning tasks, guiding Barth through the routine he will follow each day. Ashley leads him on a tour of the area, demonstrating how to inspect the concealed traps and mines scattered throughout the woods.
(B)So where are the traps?
(A)They're at the ground, but you'll be able to see them with this.
(B)Is that a doll?
(A)Yep, it sure is. These dolls have special abilities. Put this in your pocket and you'll be able to see the traps that are hidden. Bandits can't see them, but we can with these dolls.
(B)Okay, sounds odd, but I'm all for magic.
(A)If you see anything, just give me a hand signal. We don't want to tip off any bandits that might be hiding and stalking us.
(B)Sure thing, let's see if this works.
Ashley passes the doll to Barth, who carefully tucks it into his pocket, just as she suggested. He scans the surroundings but finds nothing at first, so he commands his horse and decides to ride around, hoping to uncover any hidden traps nearby. After some time, his eyes catch an ice mine cleverly concealed in the ground beside a bush. Barth glances back at Ashley, flashing her a thumbs-up to signal that he’s found something. He then pivots his horse and steers it back toward her, eager to share his discovery.
(A)Did you see anything?
(B)Yeah, I saw an ice mine not too far from a bush.
(A)Good, these dolls are useful so that when you're patrolling the area, you won't accidentally step on a trap or mine and activate them, ultimately trapping yourself unintentionally.
(B)Gotcha, thanks, Ash. So do we just ride around looking out for bandits?
(A)Pretty much, we check the traps each day and make sure the activated ones are disposed of. We'll even set them up around the trading post for cautionary measures so that the guys over there don't get attacked by bandits.
(B)So we just check these traps, throw away the activated ones and patrol the place for bandits and possibly kick some ass.
(A)You’re a quick learner and if you need help, just call for me or Larry. He’s doing his rounds, but he’ll hear you, and so will I. You use magic, so I’m sure it’ll be much easier for you to attack since you don’t really use a weapon other than those gloves. Besides, you’re pretty tough as it is, so I’m sure you’ll have no problem fighting the bandits.
(B)No need to worry about me. I was fighting bandits all the time, even at the camp. I sparred with them to train my magic and ten years later, I’m a master mage. Kate taught me some things and I’ve become stronger. Speaking of which, did you visit her today?
(A)Yeah, Larry and I stopped by before we came out here. She was sitting at the dining table while Merig was cooking her breakfast. She said she was feeling better after taking the medicine Nessa gave her.
(B)That’s good. I’ll visit her later on since I was there yesterday when Nessa and Sarah visited her. I’m sure everyone else wants to see her.
(A)Of course. We told Merig that we had everything under control, so he didn’t need to worry about coming out here unless it was an emergency.
(B)Yeah, he seemed more worried about Kate and taking care of her. He’s a good husband to her, and she insisted he take care of his guard duties, but he insisted on staying home to help her feel better.
(A)Oh he loves that woman and he's a wonderful husband to her, even before they got married he was good to her. He’d do anything she asked of him, no matter what it was. She loves him to death as well, I remember how much she fawned over him and how sweet and kind he was to her. It was so cute listening to them both gush over each other before they confessed their love. They’re perfect for each other.
(B)[chuckles] Definitely, they’re meant to be and I’m happy for them.
(A)Me, too. What about you? Have you won Sarah’s heart yet?
(B)Not yet, I want to go to the market and find something for her that she would like. Not sure when I would have free time, though.
(A)You could always go after we’re done out here and you can take it to Sarah at the healer.
(B)That sounds like a good idea. I’ll do that, then go see Sarah. I’ll visit Kate afterward.
(A)Good luck, Barth, I’m sure whatever you buy for Sarah, she’ll love it.
(B)I hope so, it seems Cormac is doing a lot better than me right now,
(A)Oh, he’s charmed Deirdre. That woman is head over heels for him, and it’s obvious. Cormac seems to be the same way. They’ve spent a lot of time together while Deirdre was taking care of him and they’ve formed a bond. It’s good to see them both happy, especially Cormac, since he was so depressed before Deirdre approached him. It took a lot of convincing to get him to get help for his wound and Deirdre accepting who he is was a big deal to Cormac. I’m happy that he’s happy.
(B)So am I. He and Deirdre really hit it off and they’re both happy and that makes me happy, too. Cormac deserves love and happiness despite his past and he’s bettered himself, so that’s all that matters.
(A)Yeah, I didn’t like him in the beginning, but he earned my respect as time went on and we all forgave him. He’s proven himself to be a good person and a good friend and now he’s my colleague and I’m sure he’ll do great things as a Royal Guard.
(B)Oh absolutely, he’s a powerful fighter and a brilliant marksman, just like Merig. They’re very similar in strength and personality. They’ll protect the ones they love and care about. But it’s going to be fun having Cormac in the guards and fighting alongside us when he’s ready.
(A)Definitely, but for now, let’s do our daily duties before Larry sees us slacking off.
(B)Right, we don’t want him to think we’re slackers.
(A)Nah, he’s pretty relaxed when it comes to daily tasks, as long as we're doing something he doesn’t mind us talking.
(B)Well, I’m excited to get started checking these traps and checking for bandits lurking about.
(A)Alright, we can split up and we’ll meet back here on the road once we’ve covered most of the area.
(B)Sounds like a plan, I’m off then.
(A)Have fun, be careful.
(B)You as well.
Ashley and Barth part ways, guiding their horses into the depths of the forest as they embark on their daily patrol. Meanwhile, at the cozy home of Kate and Merig, the couple enjoy a delightful breakfast and are now upstairs in their bedroom. Merig sits upright in bed, with Kate resting her head on his lap. He tenderly massages her back with one hand while his other hand weaves through her hair, offering comfort for the discomfort in her stomach.
(K)This nausea came back and I hate it, even after taking that medicine.
(M)I’m sorry, sweetheart, I wish I could make it go away.
(K)Oh honey, you’re helping me more than you think. Just feeling you touch me and love me is more than enough.
(M)Good, I’m glad I could help. If there’s anything more you need from me, let me know.
(K)You’re doing a lot just by being here and taking care of me, my love. I just want to continue laying here with you while you rub my back.
(M)Alright, honey, anything for my moon.
(K)Thank you, my earth, you’re so good to me and I appreciate you. Luckily, my stomach isn’t as upset as it was yesterday. I’m just a little nauseous, that’s all.
(M)Of course, I’ll do anything for you, you know that, sweetheart. I’ll get you something to drink if you’d like.
(K)You’ve done enough as it is, honey, I’m sorry I had you come up here and rub my back.
(M)You have nothing to apologize for, honey. I’m here to take care of you, remember? I’ll do anything you need me to so you can feel better.
(K)Alright, just some water, please.
(M)Right away, my moon, I’ll be right back.
(K)Okay, my earth, I love you.
(M)I love you, too.
Kate rises gracefully from Merig's lap, settling herself upright just as he leans in, and they share a tender kiss. Merig then stands from the bed, stepping out of the bedroom, and making his way downstairs to the kitchen. He fills a glass with refreshing ice-cold water and begins his ascent back upstairs when a sudden knock at the door catches his attention. Setting the glass down on the counter, he strides over to the door and opens it, revealing Deirdre, who has come to see Kate, her face brightening with a warm smile as she greets Merig.
(DD)Good morning, Commander Flynn.
(M)Good morning, Deirdre, I’m sure you’re here to see Kate.
(DD)I sure am, is she awake?
(M)Yeah, she’s upstairs. I was just down here getting her some water. Come on in.
Merig gestures for Deirdre to step into the house, gently closing the door behind them. Together, they ascend the staircase, eager to see Kate. As they enter the bedroom shared by Kate and Merig, Deirdre spots Kate propped up in bed, her face lighting up with joy at the sight of her friend. With a warm smile, Deirdre makes her way to the bedside, settling down beside Kate and greeting her with cheerful enthusiasm.
(DD)Good morning, Kate, how are you feeling today?
(K)A little better, the nausea went away for a bit, but it’s back, unfortunately.
(DD)I’m so sorry to hear that, I’m sorry if this is a bad time to visit.
(K)Not at all. Merig was just rubbing my back to help with the nausea and he was nice enough to get me some water.
(M)Here’s your water, sweetheart.
(K)Thank you, my love.
(M)No problem, honey.
(DD)Have you vomited at all today?
(K)No, thankfully, it’s just nausea, which is still uncomfortable to go through.
(DD)Oh, I can imagine. Did Nessa give you something for it?
(K)Yeah, she gave me some medicine, but it’s not making the nausea go away completely, sadly.
(DD)I’m sorry, Kate, I wish there was something I could do. I figured I would come and see you before I went to see Cormac at the training grounds.
(K)Oh, I’m sure that will be fun. I remember when I first got here, I’d go to the training grounds and watch Merig shoot his arrows at the targets. It was amazing watching him and he stole my heart.
(DD)I heard the story of how you two fell in love and I think it’s so romantic.
(K)It was very romantic. Merig was too scared to tell me how he felt, but after he confessed to me, that’s when he started trying his hardest to win my heart. But he already knew I loved him, too, but he still did everything to make me happy, which he already achieved, but we still spent as much time together as possible. Merig charmed me and completely won me over and I agreed to be with him and here we are, about nine months later, happily married.
(M)That’s right and the fact that I’m a goblin is what stopped me from telling her how I felt. But as time went on, I realized she really didn’t care and she loves me just the way I am and doesn’t care if I’m not human.
(K)You’re absolutely right, my love, but it doesn’t matter how long it took. All that matters is that we are together, and I married you because I love you. We spent so much time with each other before we got together, I felt I was ready for a relationship with him. He was so good to me and he still is. I wouldn’t trade this life for the world and I wouldn’t have wanted Merig to do anything differently, even though he regrets not telling me how he felt sooner.
(M)I wouldn’t trade this life for the world, either, honey. Everything that happened between us happened for a reason and I enjoyed the time we spent together before I told you that I love you.
(K)So did I, honey, and I do believe it was fate as well that brought us together.
(DD)How romantic, your love story is so heartwarming. You both are so happy together and I love seeing it. I do have to confess something and I don’t know who to talk to about it.
(K)Sure, hon, you can talk to us about anything.
(DD)...I love Cormac.
(K)[smiles] I had a feeling you did.
(DD)I don’t know how I should tell him.
(K)Well, you just tell him. I didn’t tell Merig how I felt until he did and I probably should’ve said something sooner, like he thinks he should’ve. But it’s all about if you’re ready and you know that you truly love the person. If you’re positive that you love someone, just tell them.
(DD)[blush] I’m one hundred percent sure that I love him. He’s just so sweet to me and he took me out in the forest yesterday and I gathered flowers like I used to for Grandma Silvia. I missed doing it and Cormac surprised me with it and we had so much fun walking around where all the beautiful spring flowers bloom. I was scared at first, but after realizing Cormac was there with me and I wasn’t alone, I wasn’t scared anymore and I felt safe with him.
(K)Oh, that was so sweet of him, my heart is melting just hearing about it.
(M)Wow, that’s a side of him that I’ve never witnessed. He’s a good person, of course, but this is a whole new Cormac that I haven’t heard of.
(K)It’s because he’s in love, it’s obvious, Merig. You’ve probably never seen this side of him, because this is the first time you've seen him fall in love.
(M)That makes sense. He really is a good person and he most likely sympathizes with you because of what happened to you and your scar. Granted, we all sympathize with you, but Cormac probably sympathizes the most and he feels terrible because the bandit that hurt you was in his camp. Which means that if he loves you, then he’s not very happy with that bandit and he might hurt him for your sake.
(DD)Cormac doesn’t have to do that. What happened to me was a long time ago, and it wasn’t his fault, I don’t blame him at all. He even told me that if he knew one of the bandits in his camp was doing things like that, he would’ve never let it happen to me. Cormac also said he would’ve never done a terrible thing like that, no matter how much he resented humans.
(M)He’s right, hurting women was never something he would’ve done, especially not in the way those bandits hurt you.
(K)It’s actually true, even though I was captured and brought to his camp, he himself never once laid a hand on me in a violent manner or inappropriately touched me. He’s a true gentleman and I’m pretty positive he’d never do something like that to you.
(DD)I trust him, he was so sweet to me when he took me out in the forest and he held my hand the whole time we walked around the flowers. I had butterflies in my stomach and I couldn’t help but feel happy again, something I told him that I hadn’t felt in a long time since I got hurt. He said I made him happy, too, and he said he hadn’t been truly happy in a long time, either.
(M)I can say that for sure to be true. He was really happy back when he, myself, and the rest of us goblins were still in the camp over a decade ago. According to Barth, he went crazy after Larry and I left and made it his goal to get his revenge. What happened last year changed him and now that he’s here and has become a better person and met you, I can say he looks much happier. Kate’s right, he’s obviously taken a liking to you since he’s spent so much time with you and done nice things for you.
(DD)Is it bad that I love him after everything he’s done?
(K)No, Deirdre, not at all. Cormac is not the person he was, and he’s been good to us to make up for what he did. We forgave him after he risked his life for my parents and he almost died doing it. He was happy to put himself in harm's way, but I didn’t want him to die. None of us did.
(DD)Cormac neglected himself and he put his life at risk again. Had Barth and the rest of the group not convinced him to go to the healer, something horrible would’ve happened to him. I’m glad he did, and I was happy to take care of him every day. I didn’t want him to die either, Kate, I love him.
(K)Oh sweetheart, I know you do and I have a feeling Cormac loves you, too.[wink]
(M)There’s no forbidden love between you two, Deirdre. Go crazy and fall in love all you want. You met Cormac when he was a good person again. At least you didn’t see him when he was overtaken with anger and pain and grief from what happened to him. You’ve taken his pain away, and it seems he’s taken yours away, too.
(DD)[smiles] It’s true, I don’t feel miserable or sad or any other negative feeling anymore. When I’m with Cormac, all I feel is happiness and joy and love. My whole body tingles with warmth and light and this feeling in my stomach that I get when I think I’m flying and I feel light as a feather.
(K)That’s how I felt every time I saw Merig, my heart would soar out of my chest and it still does. He’s my love, everything that is right in this world, and the love he gives me is more than I could ever ask for. I’m sure Cormac feels the same way about you as you feel about him. Tell him how you feel, but only if you’re ready.
(M)You’re not obligated to rush anything, and I’m sure Cormac thinks the same way, considering what happened to you. I’m sure he wouldn’t want to push for a relationship or force you into anything intimate. He seems to care about you enough not to. I promise he’s a trustworthy person and he’ll protect you with his life.
(DD)I know he will and I do trust him. I’ll tell him how I feel because my heart is telling me that’s what I should do.
(K)Then do it. Your heart is a wise thing, and it can lead you to happiness. People can play tricks on your heart, but Cormac isn’t that kind of person. He’s a caring person, and he’s shown us that, so I can vouch for him.
(DD)Thank you, Kate, and Merig. Next time he takes me out somewhere, I’ll tell him that I love him.
(K)Maybe he’ll take you on another date. That would be the perfect time to tell him.
(DD)[smiles] I’ll do that. It was also good seeing you. I felt it was only right that I visit you since you’re sick. I hope you feel better soon.
(K)Thank you, Deirdre, I really appreciate it and it was good seeing you, too, love. I’m on the mend, as long as I have Merig here taking care of me.
(DD)He’s your husband, after all. It’s his job just as much as it is yours as his wife.
(M)That’s what I keep telling her, but she seems to think she should only take care of me and everyone else.
(DD)Your health matters over everyone else's, because if you're sick, then you can’t do daily things. You have to get better so that you can resume your daily life and continue to take care of others. Just let people take care of you, just as you have for others. It’s not a bad thing for people to want to help you get better if you’re sick or in pain. That’s what friends, family, and spouses are there for, just as you are there for them. It’s a two-way street, so expect all the love you’ve given people to be given to you in return.
(K)Wise words from Deirdre McCullen. I guess I never thought of it that way.
(M)But she’s absolutely right, sweetheart. I’ve told you before, you’ve done a lot for me in the past and present, so there’s no reason why I can’t take care of you as your husband.
(K)Alright, you win. That seems to be happening a lot lately, but that’s okay. I don’t mind letting you win, especially when I know you’re right.
(DD)Hey, women can be wrong and goblins happen to be a bit wiser than us.
(K)That’s been proven many times since I’ve known Merig and Larry, so I get it.
(DD)Well, I should go and let you get some rest. I’m sure you’re tired.
(K)I am. I’ll be lying here with Merig while he rubs my back some more if that’s okay with him.
(M)Of course, honey, I’d be happy to.
(DD)I’ll let you know what happens with Cormac and I. I’m nervous, but it feels right to tell him how I feel at the same time.
(K)Trust me, I know, you’re going to feel like your heart is about to leap out of your chest. But I believe in you, hon.
(DD)Thank you, Kate, I’ll see you both later.
(K)Bye, Deirdre.
(M)We’ll see you later, Deirdre.
Deirdre rises from the bed, her face lit up with a cheerful smile before she strides out of the room and descends the stairs, stepping out of the house. Meanwhile, at the training grounds, Cormac and Gordo are engaged in a sparring match following Cormac's session of target practice, where he has been building strength in his arms to wield his crossbow effectively. Gordo, nimble and quick, darts around the training area, while Cormac focuses on honing his attack speed by firing training bolts at him. With impressive skill, Cormac manages to keep his crossbow steady, rapidly releasing bolts that find their mark as Gordo weaves through the space. After a vigorous round, Cormac eventually exhausts his supply of bolts, lowering his crossbow as Gordo halts, catching his breath, sweat glistening on his brow.
(G)Nice shooting. I felt some of those training bolts. A few of them hit me hard. You still got it, Cormac. Let’s clean up these bolts and take a break. We’ve been at this for a while.
(C)Alright, my shoulder is a little tense, anyway. I gotta rest for a bit. I’ll help you clean up, though.
Gordo and Cormac discover a spot to stow away their weapons before teaming up to tidy up the training grounds littered with bolts. Once the area is cleared, they make their way to the resting area, selecting their seats and sinking into them for a well-deserved break. Cormac places his left hand on his right shoulder where his injury has healed, gently kneading the muscles as he works to alleviate the built-up tension.
(G)How does it feel?
(C)A little tense, the muscles are getting used to the weight of the crossbow. I’ll be alright, it’ll just take some time to get used to it again.
(G)Little by little, you'll get your strength back and you'll kick ass.
(C)Hopefully, soon, I don't want to baby myself and not get stronger.
(G)Don't rush it, Cormac, you remember what happened last time you rushed yourself?
(C)Yeah, yeah, I'll take things slow like Merig told me to. I don't want to disappoint him. He was gracious enough to let me back into his life, and I can't screw it up. He's like a brother to me. You all are and I'm really enjoying being in this beautiful city. I truly do regret everything. I could've had a better life here, but my past didn't want me to and I held onto my pain for too long. Now that I've let most of the negative emotions go, I’m starting to feel free and the burden has lifted. I regret not listening to Merig and not coming here sooner.
(G)It's all in the past. We're here now and things are better and so are we. We just have to stay here and live our lives the way we want as long as we're not hurting people.
(C)Of course, we've already established ourselves here and got our friend group back. You're a Royal Guard and now I'm training to become a Royal Guard and I'm happy. I'll be much happier when I tell Deirdre that I love her.
(G)Good. I'm glad, you deserve happiness and love.
(C)I guess I do. Also, I'm really sorry that I implied that you wouldn't find love that day at the pub. I didn't mean it like that and I was just frustrated and confused and I didn't think I was worthy of life or love. I lashed out, and I felt terrible.
(G)Don't dwell on it, Cormac, I'm not going to and I understand what you were going through at the time. I know you didn't mean it, and I forgave you the minute it happened. I'm just glad you're doing better and that you're happier. It's good to see you happy again.
(C)It feels good to be happy again and my first step to being happy is finding love and I found it. Now I just need to establish that I love Deirdre so that she knows and maybe she feels the same.
(G)I bet you she will if only you see the way she looks at you. It's the same way Kate looks at Merig or the way Ash looks at Larry. It's the look women have when they love someone. They have this twinkle in their eyes and they're happy-go-lucky. Their happiness is contagious, and it lights up the darkness in life and makes you forget about the bad things.
(C)I understand now. Every time I'm around Deirdre, I feel the same way. I can't help but tell her she's beautiful, or other things to make her smile. I want to make her happy, just like she makes me happy. I want to be with her. But what if she doesn't want to be with me?
(G)Don't think like that, Cormac, think positively. I'm sure she wants to be with you, too. You just have to be optimistic, remember?
(C)Right, I can't lose the confidence that I've built up already. Deirdre has spent a lot of time with me and she told me I make her happy and that I'm her light in the darkness. That tells me all I need to know.
(G)Exactly, everything will work out between you both.
(C)Yeah, it will. I have a good feeling about it.

(G)Oh, did you want to go visit Kate? It's almost noon.
(C)Shit! Deirdre was going to come here and watch me train. I completely forgot. I should probably stay and wait for her, then we can do some more training and then we'll go see Kate.
(G)Well, I can always go and you stay here and wait for Deirdre. When I come back, you can go see Kate.
(C)I think we should go together in case she wants to sleep after one of us visits and leaves. I don't want to miss out on visiting her.
(G)Alright, we'll wait for Deirdre.
(C)She wants to watch me train at the targets, so that's where I'll be.
(G)That's fine, I'll go to the training dummies and practice my kicks.
Deirdre steps into the training grounds, her eyes scanning the area for a glimpse of Cormac. She strolls around, her footsteps light on the ground before her gaze lands on the resting area. A smile spreads across her face as she spots Gordo and Cormac lounging together, and she quickens her pace with excitement. As she approaches, the two goblins snap their attention towards her, their eyes sparkling with curiosity. Cormac's face lights up with a warm greeting, his enthusiasm infectious.
(C)Hey, Deirdre, we were just talking about you coming to watch me train.
(DD)Sorry I'm late, I went to go see Kate at her home.
(C)No need to be sorry, Gordo and I just got done sparring, and we were taking a break. We were going to go visit Kate after we were done here.
(DD)Okay, so what do you plan on doing now for your training?
(C)I have to get used to the weight of my crossbow again, so I'll be shooting at the targets over there for a bit.
(DD)Sounds like fun. I'll be happy to watch you. Then I'll go to the pub and wait for you so that you and Gordo can go visit Kate.
(C)Alright, let's head over to the targets, then.
Cormac rises from his spot in the resting area, motioning for Deirdre to join him as they stroll toward the targets. There, she can observe Cormac honing his skills with the crossbow before he and Gordo set off to pay a visit to Kate at her residence. Meanwhile, Larry, Ashley, and Barth wrap up their routine guard shifts and head over to the pub, eager to unwind and perhaps grab a bite to eat. They step inside, settling at their favorite table, ready to savor some leisure time and enjoy each other's company.
(B)Well, that was a lot of fun on my first day. I actually got to fight bandits. That one bastard thought he was going to sneak up on me from inside a bush. They know I can hear them perfectly, right?
(L)Not all bandits are smart, you know that. And they aren't quiet every time. With our hearing, it's much easier to find them if they're hiding.
(A)I'll sometimes put my traps in the bushes since that's where they like to hide. It's actually funny to watch them regret their decisions in life after getting caught in one of them when they think hiding will protect them.
(B)That's smart thinking. I'm sure I'll get some laughs out of this work.
(L)Oh, you definitely will and it'll be worth it. When Merig does his thing, it's quite entertaining to hear the bandits squeal and run with their tails between their legs. With the new bow he got from Tom, I'm sure he'll wield it with pride and the bandits will cower in fear.
(A)Oh I don't doubt that, I look forward to seeing him in action with his shiny new toy. I'm sure he'll enjoy watching the bandits scatter and run.
(L)Oh, he definitely will. It'll be fun to watch him kick ass as a knight. With a title and a new weapon, the bandits will be too scared to even set foot in this area.
(B)I wouldn't doubt it. He has his wife and his knighthood. Merig is living the dream right now.
(A)Exactly, but his biggest honor was marrying the woman he loves. That goblin has two titles and his rank. Husband, knight, and commander and he wears each one with the utmost pride.
(L)That he does, especially the husband title. I think that's his proudest one.
(B)Oh, for sure, he's the luckiest goblin.
(L)I'm the luckiest goblin, too. I'll be married to this beautiful woman next to me and still be second in command.
(B)And I'm still on my way to becoming a captain. Also, that one guy who got attacked by bandits while he was transporting his goods, I hope he’s okay.
(A)He should be fine since we fought off the bandits and took him to Sarah and Nessa. At least none of his goods were stolen, and the man wasn’t severely injured.
(L)Yeah, that’s another thing we’ll be doing while out in the forest. People transport things from all over and Tara is the best place for merchants to sell their goods. Not only do we protect citizens, but we also protect the merchants that come here to sell their stuff.
(B)That makes sense, it keeps the economy afloat.
(A)Pretty much, and anyone who sets foot in Tara is our responsibility to protect if they get hurt by bandits.
(B)I get it and I’m more than willing to protect anyone who gets hurt by bandits. If it keeps Tara safe and every innocent person that comes here and lives here, then I’ll be happy to be a part of the guards.
(L)You’re practically the only mage in the guards, to begin with, so you can take them out easily. Besides, I’m sure the ones that stayed at Cormac’s old camp know how strong you are.
(B)Oh, they do, did you see the way they looked when they saw me today? I swear the one in the bush almost pissed himself.
(A)Yeah, it was funny. The ones attacking the cart scattered like bugs when you tossed some ice magic at them.
(B)Yeah, I didn’t want to use my fire magic and risk burning up the man’s cart and horse. Ice magic is the best to stop bandits in their tracks.
(L)With you and Merig working together, bandits won’t dare come near the city. I’m pretty ruthless myself, but nothing compared to the Flynn brothers. I look forward to future endeavors with you two.
(B)Me too, I really missed Merig. I hope he doesn’t hate me for staying at the bandit camp and not seeing him for ten years.
(L)Why would he?
(B)Because I didn’t come here with you and him. I did it to protect him, otherwise Cormac would’ve gone through with his threat against me.
(A)He’s never once said he hates you or even hinted at it.
(B)Yeah, but maybe it’s not something he’s talked about to anyone. When we were kids, he relied on me because I was the oldest and I took care of him after what happened in our village. I practically abandoned him when he left to come here, and I couldn’t even contact him to tell him what happened.
(L)You couldn’t, you were basically being held against your will. Merig understood that, and he even told you he did.
(B)I still feel like shit about doing it and I’m a horrible brother.
(A)You’re not a horrible brother, Barth, you did it to protect Merig. Something you’ve been doing his whole life.
(L)She’s right, Merig has even talked about how much he loves having his big brother living here. He’s going to make you captain of the guards so you can fight alongside each other. If he hated you, he wouldn’t do that or say how happy he is to have you here.
(B)I guess you’re right, I’m just mad at myself I guess. I know I had to protect him, but that meant not seeing him for those ten years and not being there for him if he needed me.
(A)Listen, for as long as I’ve known Merig, he’s done a great job at taking care of himself here. He’s a big boy and he never once complained about not being able to do anything. Any problems he had, he had Larry and me as his friends and his colleagues to be here for him.
(L)That’s right, and before Ash came along, he had me, his best friend. Did he miss you? Sure. Did he talk about you from time to time? Sure. But he never once said he was mad at you or hated you. I know you’re mad at yourself, pal, but don’t dwell on it if Merig isn’t. You’re here now and Merig is happy that you are, and he still loves his big brother. If he was mad at you, he would tell you, trust me.
(B)But Kate said he never talked about me the whole year that she was living here.
(L)That’s because he was focused on training and being a commander in the guards. His duty was to this city and the citizens. He didn’t forget about you, he just had other priorities. When Kate came along, he was so in love with her and tried his best to win her over. When they got together, she was his priority as well, and his biggest one.
(B)Alright alright, I get it. I’m just trying to let go of the guilt, that’s all.
(A)We saw what happened to Cormac when he held onto his guilt. Learn from that, Barth. Everything is okay now and everyone is happy. Merig and Kate are married and Merig just got knighted. Life is perfect for him right now.
(B)Yeah it is, and I'll hopefully win Sarah's heart.
(A)You will, Barth, if Merig can do it, so can you.
(L)Weren't you going to go find her a gift or something?
(B)Yeah, I should probably head out to do that. Hopefully, I can catch her when she's not too busy.
(A)Remember, it doesn’t have to be anything fancy, maybe just a necklace like Cormac gave Deirdre on their first date.
(B)Alright, I'll remember that. I'm kinda nervous, I don't want to chicken out.
(L)Just breathe, pal, you got this. You'll win Sarah's heart for sure. Just stay calm and don't be afraid.
(B)Right, I got this. I'll see you both later. I'll stop to see Kate after I visit Sarah.
(A)Alright, give Kate our love for us. She'll need it.
(B)Will do that, see you both later.
(L)We’ll see you later, pal.
Barth rises from his chair, his mind set on a mission. He strides purposefully toward the door, stepping out of the pub with determination, eager to find the perfect gift for Sarah at the market. Meanwhile, in the cozy confines of Kate and Merig's home, Kate is nestled in bed, enjoying a peaceful nap. Merig, ever attentive, sits on the bed beside her, gently massaging her back as she dreams. Suddenly, a soft knock at the door breaks the tranquility, causing his ears to perk up. He carefully rises, mindful not to disturb Kate, and tiptoes out of the bedroom. Descending the stairs with stealth, he reaches the door and opens it to reveal Cormac and Gordo waiting outside. With a welcoming smile, he ushers them in, quietly shutting the door behind them.
(M)I take it you both came to visit Kate.
(G)Yeah, is it a bad time?
(M)She's asleep right now. She's been sleeping for about an hour.
(C)I'm sure she needs it. We wouldn't want to wake her.
(G)Yeah, we just came by before we headed to the pub.
(M)How was training?
(C)Better than I expected. Although I’ve lost some of my strength during my recovery so I'm working on gaining it back.
(M)Just take it slow like I said. It'll take time for your strength to recover now that your body has.
(G)We did spar a little, I didn't attack him, I just ran around while she shot training bolts at me.
(M)Alright, sounds like you both had fun. Nothing major happened?
(G)Nah, I had everything under control.
(C)Deirdre said she came to visit.
(M)Yeah, she did. Kate was awake when she showed up. She fell asleep not long after Deirdre left.
(C)Can I ask you something, Merig? I asked Gordo this same question, but, do you hate me?
(M)No, why do you ask?
(C)I just wanted to make sure. I don't want anyone to resent me for the past. I'd feel awful if someone still held anything against me. If there are any negative emotions toward me, I'll do what I can to fix it. I just wanted to make sure you didn't resent me the most for what I did to you.
(M)We talked about this when you got rushed to the healer that day. We don't hate you, just what you did, and we forgave you when you saved Tom and Jo’s lives. To know that you'd put your life on the line showed us how much you changed. You've redeemed yourself and proven yourself to be peaceful again. I'm glad to see that you’re happy for the first time in a long time and you've helped us a lot. We didn't want you to die and your injury got worse because you pushed yourself and didn't rest like you needed to. We're glad you and Deirdre had fun at the reception and we're happy to see you both happy being around each other. Deirdre seems to be very fond of you and talked very positively about you.
(C)That's good to know, and it's a relief that you and Kate don't hate me. I don't know what I'd do if you did.
(M)No need to worry, just keep up with the training and remember to take it slow.
(C)I will, don't worry. I plan on taking Deirdre out in the forest again. I surprised her with it the other day and we enjoyed ourselves. I want to tell her that I love her when I take her back out there.
(M)Do it, trust me, you won't regret it. Learn from me. Don't wait to tell her how you feel.
(C)Right, I want her to know how I feel. Of course, my appearance scares me into thinking she wouldn't love me back.
(M)I thought the same thing before I told Kate how I felt about her. Turns out she loves me no matter who or what I am. Remember that. If Deirdre loves you, she won't care either.
(C)I get that, I just don't want to bring her any misery or pain, seeing how I used to be a bandit, and she got hurt by bandits.
(M)But you've changed, Cormac, you're no longer a bandit and you don't want anything more to do with banditry. That's what she cares about, that you're a good person and not the person you were before. She sees past all of that and sees what a caring person you are to her. Even after telling Kate that I was in the bandit camp, she still loves me and she said knowing that didn't make her love me any less. Ash said the same about Larry.
(C)Deirdre did say she was willing to overlook my past, but I did worse things than you did, Merig. Yet Deirdre still cares about me. It's just hard to believe, that's all.
(M)Trust me, it will be for a while until it finally sinks in that she loves you. I know from experiencing it firsthand and I'm willing to pass along my knowledge. Everything will work out for the better, I promise you.
(C)Right, I trust you, I understand now. I've got this. I'll tell Deirdre that I love her.
(M)I believe in you, buddy, good luck.
Suddenly, the frantic sound of heavy footsteps echoes from the upper floor, followed by the unmistakable sound of Kate vomiting in the bathroom. The goblins' ears perk up in unison, their curiosity piqued as they dart upstairs and burst into the bedroom. They race across the room and into the bathroom, where they find Kate hunched over the toilet still retching. Merig quickly kneels beside her, gently holding back her hair and rubbing her back. Meanwhile, Gordo dashes downstairs to fetch a glass of water, returning swiftly to pass it to Merig. After a tense moment, Kate finally stops heaving, and Merig offers her the glass, allowing her to take a much-needed sip.
(K)I'm so sorry, my love. I just woke up from a dead sleep and I felt so nauseous.
(M)Don't apologize, sweetheart, I'm more worried about you. I'm here to take care of you, remember?
(K)Of course, honey, I just hate going through this. I was sleeping so peacefully.
(M)I understand it's frustrating, honey, just take it easy.
(K)Hey, you two, sorry about that. Thank you for getting the water for me.
(G)Don't even sweat it, Kate, I was happy to be of assistance.
(C)Do you feel better after all that?
(K)For the most part. Thank you both for coming here. I'm sure you came to check on me.
(C)Yeah, we came to visit and Merig said you were asleep, so we were just going to leave until we heard you vomiting up here.
(K)I didn't mean for you guys to panic.
(G)We care about you, Kate. Of course, we're going to panic if something bad is happening. Vomiting isn't exactly fun, so it's cause for worry.
(C)We don't mind worrying about a friend, especially when you're sick.
(K)I appreciate it, you two. I don't know what I'd do without you.
(M)Do you feel alright, sweetheart?
(K)Yeah, I want to go lay back down.
(M)Alright then, let's get you up and into bed.
(C)I’ll help you.
Cormac steps up, lending a hand to Merig as they help Kate rise to her feet, while Gordo swiftly grabs a glass of water and places it on the bedside table. They make their way out of the bathroom and finally arrive at the bed, where Merig and Cormac gently lower Kate onto the mattress. In a hurry, Merig dashes back to the bathroom to fetch the nausea medication that Nessa had given Kate, quickly returning to hand it over. Kate takes the medicine and follows it with a sip of water to wash it down.
(K)Thank you, my love. You as well, Cormac.
(C)It was no problem at all.
(M)Of course, honey, that’s what I’m here for. I was hoping you would get some rest, and I tried my best not to wake you.
(K)Oh honey, you’re perfectly fine. I didn’t expect to wake up and vomit, but it can’t be helped.
(G)Did Nessa tell you what might be wrong with you?
(K)She said it’s most likely a stomach bug, it’s the season for it. Nessa said it should pass in a few days.
(C)That’s good at least, but it seems that medicine doesn’t help with the vomiting.
(K)No, just the nausea, which whatever my stomach is expelling, I’m sure it’s whatever sickness I have.
(M)I’ll continue to be here and take care of you.
(K)I know you will, honey, and I appreciate it. So, how did the training session go on your first day, Cormac?
(C)It went well, thankfully. My shoulder tensed up after a while of shooting my crossbow at Gordo while he ran around the training grounds.
(K)Build your strength up, but take it slow and easy. Do some warm-ups and stretch before you do any sparring or target practice. It’ll help your muscles and prevent them from tensing up.
(C)I’ll remember that. Also, Deirdre showed up, and she wanted to see me do some target practice.
(K)Oh yeah? I bet that was fun. Deirdre came to visit just before I laid down.
(C)Did she…say anything about me?
(K)She said she was excited to come watch you train, and that she was having a lot of fun spending time with you. That woman seems to be very fond of you.
(C)[smiles] Well I’m very fond of her, too, I’ve had so much fun with her. I plan on taking her out again into the forest in the next few days. She really seemed to love that.
(K)So you're taking this woman out on dates?
(C)[blush] I guess you could call them dates. I just like spending time with her.
(K)[giggles] That’s what you do with someone on a date, Cormac, as long as you’re enjoying your time with her and vice versa.
(C)She said she had a wonderful time, and she wants to spend time with me more often.
(K)Then there you go. You’re both dating right now. She seemed really happy when she talked about you. Her face lit up and everything. That’s how I used to be when I first fell in love with Merig.
(C)I guess you’re right. I really love seeing her smile and I like being the one to make her happy. I want to tell her how I feel when I take her out to the forest again.
(K)Do it, Cormac, you’ll regret it if you don’t.
(C)That’s what Merig told me. I’m prepared to tell her and I feel confident in my decision.
(K)Good, confidence is good. I believe in you.
(C)It’s not actually my first time being with a woman, so I know how to make a woman happy.
(M)Really? I never knew that.
(K)Me either, I want to know more about that.
(G)Yeah, I’m curious.
(C)It was a long time ago when I still lived in Taill. I was with a woman before I was exiled out of town…She believed the man who betrayed me and she left me.
(K)I’m sorry, Cormac, I know that must’ve been heartbreaking for you.
(C)It was, but I don’t love that woman anymore and I’ve moved on, so I just want to forget about it. Deirdre is the woman I love, and she’s the only one that matters to me.
(K)I’m glad you’ve moved past it.
(C)I also wanted to ask you something. I’ve already asked Gordo and Merig. I haven’t asked Barth or Larry yet, but since I’m here, I’ll just get this off of my chest.
(K)Sure, Cormac, what is it?
(C)Do you hate me?
(K)Of course not, why would I?
(C)I just wanted to make sure you didn’t have any hidden resentment for me from the past.
(K)Not this again, Cormac, we’ve talked about this.
(C)I know, I just need that reassurance for some reason. It's really eating at me.
(K)[sigh] I understand, and I can assure you that I don’t hate you or resent you. Any past frustrations I had for you are gone, I promise. I was willing to create a clean slate and a fresh start with you as a friend, especially since you protected my parents and almost died. Had I known you were depressed and neglecting yourself, I would’ve helped you through it.
(C)It’s okay, everyone else helped me while you and Merig were on your honeymoon, so you didn’t need to do anything while you both were relaxing at the cabin.
(K)I still worry about you going through it, Cormac. If you’re standing here asking me if I hate you or harbor some negative emotions toward you, then you’re still battling with something. I’m telling you that I’m here and so is everyone else if you’re still feeling negative emotions toward yourself.
(C)It’s honestly not as bad as it was before you and Merig came back home. I still harbor some remnants of self-loathing, that’s all, and I don’t know how to get rid of it other than to ask the people around me if they hate me.
(K)I can understand wanting reassurance, Cormac, it’s completely normal to need it so that you know you’re not the person you think you are or whatever the whispers in your head are telling you. I don’t hate you at all and I’ve come to really care about you and you are a good friend to me.
(C)That’s a relief to hear. I care about you, too, Kate, and you’ve been a really good friend to me, you and Merig both.
(M)That’s what we’re here for, buddy. We’re practically family.
(G)That’s pretty much what I told him.
(K)Well, there’s no need to worry. And whatever you’re going through, I’m sure with as much time as you’re spending with Deirdre, that will go away. The happiness that you feel seeing Deirdre will outweigh all of your negative emotions from the past. Seeing Merig every day for a year and spending time with him made all the negative emotions I harbored from the past just melt away. When he told me that he was in love with me for the first time and kissed me for the first time and everything else we did together, made me so happy and forget about my past. All I felt when I was with Merig was love and light, and every positive emotion just conquered the negative ones. No matter how bad I felt or how good I felt, Merig was still there to put a smile on my face, and it never went away. I was happy again, just like you are with Deirdre, so just know that the feelings you still have that are making you hate yourself will go away the more time you spend with her, I promise.
(C)I understand what you’re saying. I just have to be patient like I did with my healing.
(K)That’s right, it may just be the hopeless romantic side of me talking, but I’m speaking from experience, Cormac.
(C)I get it. I believe you and I look forward to getting rid of those negative emotions that I still have toward myself. I’m sure it will feel good to let them go.
(K)It will be the best feeling in the world. Letting go of something can take so much weight off of you, that you’ll feel like a completely new person.
(C)Just like the pain and hatred from being betrayed, I didn’t let that go, and it changed me for the worse. Once I let it go, I was myself again.
(K)Exactly, now all you have to do is let go of the hatred for yourself.
(C)I understand now and I’ll work on it. I look forward to spending more time with Deirdre. Maybe telling her how I feel will help me more and possibly get the chance to be with her.
(K)I believe you’ll capture her heart just like she has yours.
(C)She’s stolen my heart, and she’s not even a bandit.
(K)[giggles] She doesn’t have to be. That’s the beauty of it.
(C)Agreed.
(G)Well, we should probably head out of here and let you get some rest. After that episode in the bathroom, I’m sure you’re tired.
(K)I am. I’ll lie down and get some more sleep. Hopefully, I won’t wake up from a dead sleep again.
(C)Yeah, let’s hope not. We hope you feel better, Kate. You’ve got Merig to take care of you.
(K)I know, he’s a wonderful husband to me and I love him. I’m grateful and I owe him everything.
(M)I love you, sweetheart, you don’t owe me anything. The love you give me is all I need.
(K)And of course, you have all of my love, honey, for the rest of our lives. I really appreciate you two coming to visit me. Everyone seems to want to come and see me.
(G)Of course, you’re our friend and we worry about you.
(C)That’s right and if you need anything, just let us know.
(K)I definitely will, but for now, I think Merig has everything under control.
(G)Good, we’ll see you both later.
(K)Bye, you two.
(C)Get better soon, Kate. We’ll see you later.
(M)See you guys later.
The four friends wrap up their farewells for the day, and as Cormac and Gordo step out of the room, they head towards the pub. Meanwhile, at the healer's, Sarah and Nessa are busy caring for a patient who fell victim to a bandit ambush while Larry, Ashley, and Barth were on patrol. The man had been driving his horse and cart, delivering goods to Tara, when the bandits struck. Nessa and Sarah have completed bandaging his injuries, and now Sarah is carefully giving him a pain-reducing potion.
(S)Drink this, it’ll ease your pain.
(Q)Thank you so much, miss.
(S)How are you feeling?
(Q)A little better now.
(S)What’s your name?
(Q)Quinton.
(S)Nice to meet you Quinton, I’m Sarah and this is Nessa. Tell us what happened.
(Q)I was coming from Tir with my stock. I was so close to the trading post when the bandits jumped out from the bushes and started attacking me and almost stole my goods. The next thing I know, I see ice magic flying and hitting the bandits. Those Royal Guards came and rescued me before bringing me here.
(S)You had the pleasure of meeting our captain in training, as well as the second in command and royal alchemist.
(Q)They saved my life and my stock.
(S)Your cart and horse are safe back at the Royal Guards stables, so when you leave here, you can go retrieve it. For now, just rest so you can heal.
(N)I’ll have you stay here for a few days. Are any of your goods perishable?
(Q)Thankfully no, it’s just small furniture. I’ll be fine with staying here.
(S)No need to worry, one of us will stay overnight to make sure you’re okay.
(N)And we’ll change your bandages in the morning
(Q)Thank you for treating me. It’s been a few days since I got a proper sleep, so I’ll enjoy the rest.
(S)Good, just make yourself comfy and if there’s anything you need, just let us know.
(Q)Will do that, I appreciate it.
(N)Of course, it’s our job.
Nessa and Sarah tidy up the space, stepping away from the bed as they toss out used cotton and various used medical supplies, neatly stowing away the medicine in the cupboards. Just moments later, the door swings open, and Barth steps inside, shutting the door softly behind him. Sarah and Nessa shift their focus to him, and as Barth glances at Sarah, their eyes lock, sparking a warm smile between them. Sarah beams with joy as she greets him.
(S)Good afternoon, Barth.
(B)Good afternoon, everything went well with the man that was attacked?
(S)Yes, he’s all bandaged up and lying in a bed.
(B)Good, I just wanted to check on him.
(S)You’re more than welcome to talk to him. He’s still awake.
(Q)Are you one of the guards that saved me?
(B)Yes, sir, I am. I’m Barth. I’m training as a captain of the guards. My younger brother is the commander.
(Q)I’m Quinton, thank you for saving me and my stock. I was sure those bandits were going to kill me.
(B)Of course, Quinton, we protect our citizens. It’s our job.
(Q)And thank you for taking my stock and keeping it safe.
(B)Anything we can do to help? Your cart and horse are safe with us until you leave here.
(Q)You’ll make a great captain for the guards. The way you fought with your magic was incredible.
(B)[chuckles] Thank you. I pride myself on being a master mage. I just thought I’d come here and check on you, rest easy, and watch out for Nessa. She just might slip you something if you’re too rowdy.
(N)[giggles] There you go again, telling fibs.
(B)Okay, okay, she’ll only slip a bit of the good stuff.
(S)Don’t listen to Barth. He knows from experience that we take good care of our patients.
(B)It’s true, Sarah’s pain-killing potions are amazing. These lovely ladies will take good care of you here while you’re here, so no need to worry.
(Q)[chuckles] Thank you, Barth, I’m already starting to feel better. I’m so comfy in this bed, I could fall asleep right now and get some rest.
(B)You’re in good hands, get some sleep, I’m sure you’re exhausted from your travels.
(Q)Very much so, thank you again.
(B)It was our pleasure to help.
(S)Thank you for stopping by, Barth.
(B)Of course, I also wanted to talk to you. I, uh, have something for you.
(S)Really?
(B)Yeah, I told you those flowers weren’t the only way I’d express my gratitude for when you saved my life.
(S)Barth, you don’t owe me anything, honestly.
(B)I know, but I want to, and I have something I think you’ll like. Hold out your wrist.
(S)[smiles] Okay.
Following Barth's instructions, Sarah extends her wrist, presenting it to him. With a swift motion, Barth pulls a silver bracelet from his pocket and gently clasps it around her wrist, fastening it with care. As Sarah gazes at the bracelet, her eyes catch a charming rabbit-shaped pendant dangling from it. She lifts the bracelet closer, her face glowing with delight as a radiant smile spreads across her features.
(S)Oh, it’s so cute, I absolutely love rabbits.
(B)I thought you’d like it.
(S)Are you kidding? I love it. Thank you so much, Barth, you didn’t have to.
(B)I know, but after I bought you the flowers, I thought about what else I could do to make you smile.
(S)[smiles] Luckily the flowers are well taken care of here. They’re still alive at my workstation.
(B)I noticed it’s been over three weeks and they still haven’t wilted.
(S)I know just what they need to survive indoors so they’ll continue to stay healthy and alive.
(B)That’s good. I’m glad you love the bracelet. I remember you told me you love rabbits and when I saw this, I thought of you instantly.
(S)You’re the sweetest, Barth. I’ll wear this all the time. I love it so much.
(B)Oh, before I forget, I also found this, and I thought it would look great sitting at your workstation next to your flowers. Hold out your hand this time.
Sarah extends her hand eagerly, and Barth, rummaging through his pocket once more, retrieves a small rabbit statue, roughly four inches tall. With a tender motion, he sets it into Sarah's palm. Her eyes sparkle with delight, and a broad smile spreads across her face. Cradling the statue in both hands, she examines it closely, her curiosity bubbling just before she begins to speak.
(S)Oh my goodness, it’s so adorable, it’ll sit perfectly next to the periwinkles. You’re spoiling me, Barth, you really shouldn’t have.
(B)I couldn’t pass it up, I knew you’d love it.
(S)Absolutely, I do, I’ll keep it here to keep me company when I’m here alone. Thank you, Barth, I’ll cherish these forever.
(B)I know you will. Oh, I wanted to go see Kate at her home. Would you want to come with me?
(S)Oh, that’s right, I was going to go visit her today to see how she’s doing. Would it be okay if I left, Nessa?
(N)I think that would be okay. I went ahead and made a remedy for her vomiting if you’ll take it to her for me.
(S)Of course, I’m sure she’ll need it.
(N)They’re tablets. Tell her to take one as soon as you get there. This should help a lot.
(S)Alright, I’ll give it to her. I shouldn’t be long.
(N)Don’t worry, take as much time as you need. I’m sure you and Barth would like to spend some time together, maybe even plan a date.
(S)[gasp] Nessa![blush]
(N)[giggles] There she goes with her face all beet red.
(B)[chuckles] Oh I plan on taking her out soon, like I said, there are other ways I want to show my gratitude.
(S)[sigh] You really don’t have to, Nessa just likes embarrassing me.
(N)I’m sure she would love it, Barth.
(B)Would you want to, Sarah? Would you want to have dinner with me sometime?
(S)[smiles] Actually yeah, I would love that.
(B)Really?
(S)Yeah, I think it would be fun.
(B)I actually wanted to try to spend a whole day with you. I know you’re busy with Kate, and now Quinton is here.
(S)That’s true. It’s all up to Nessa if I can sneak away for a day.
(N)I think I can make that happen.[wink]
(B)Well, I guess we can plan something in the next few days.
(S)[smiles] Sounds good to me, I look forward to it.
(B)Oh me too, you won’t regret it, Sarah.
(S)Alright, let’s go see Kate and see how she’s doing.
(B)Right, we’ll see you later, Nessa.
(N)Have fun, you two, and give Kate my love.
(S)I will, I shouldn’t be long.
Sarah gently sets the small rabbit statue beside the vibrant vase of periwinkles on her workstation, the delicate flowers swaying slightly as she moves. Nessa approaches Sarah and hands her a tiny green bottle filled with small tablets to help with Kate's vomiting. Sarah nods, tucking the bottle into her pocket, before heading towards the door. Barth opens it with a gentle gesture for her to exit first, and Sarah presents him with a soft smile as she walks out. Together, they make their way to Kate and Merig's cozy home, the warm sunlight casting a welcoming glow. As they arrive, they knock on the door, and after a brief moment, Merig answers, his face lighting up with a warm smile. He invites them in, leading them upstairs to Kate's bedroom. Kate, now awake from her nap, sits up in bed, her eyes brightening as she greets her visitors with a weak but warm smile. Merig, Barth, and Sarah enter the room, surrounding Kate with a sense of comfort and care.
(K)Hey, you two, I was wondering if you’d stop by.
(S)Barth said he was heading over here anyway, so I figured I’d come with him. Nessa also gave me these tablets to give to you. Here, she said it should help with the vomiting.
(K)Thank you so much, Sarah. This will help me so much. I vomited earlier when Cormac and Gordo stopped by. It was embarrassing, and it woke me up. I was sleeping good too.
(B)How rude.
(K)I know, right?! I laid back down and slept for another half an hour and now I’m awake and hungry for some lunch. There’s still soup left from yesterday when Merig cooked it for me. He did a wonderful job with my recipe.
(M)I told you I can cook.
(S)That’s good. I hope those tablets help so you can eat.
(K)Me too, I’ll take one right now, I don’t want to eat and have it come back up again.
(B)Yeah, that would be bad.
(K)How'd your first day of fighting out in the forest go, Barth?
(B)Great, we got to fight bandits and stop them from robbing a merchant. They ran as soon as they saw me, which means they’re from the old camp and they know exactly who I am. It was fun watching them scatter like roaches.
(M)I would've loved to see that.
(K)Me, too, I love seeing you fight with your magic. Those bandits probably pissed themselves.
(B)Oh, they did, they knew they didn't stand a chance.
(K)I can't wait until you become captain.
(B)You and me both, sis.
(K)I'm sure you'll do amazing work.
(B)You have too much faith in me, but thanks, I'll work hard for the rank.
(M)I know you will, you're a great fighter.
(K)It's true, you and Cormac both will be badass fighting bandits.
(B)Oh yeah, we'll have a lot of fun, too.
(M)Hey, Barth, can I ask you something?
(B)Sure, little brother, what’s up?
(M)Have you talked to Cormac lately?
(B)Not today, why?
(M)Has he asked you any specific questions?
(B)Not that I can recall.
(M)Well, he asked Kate and me earlier if we hated him or resented him.
(B)[sigh] And he’s probably going to ask me the same thing and probably Larry, too.
(M)Well, he’s already asked Gordo and now Kate and I. I honestly don’t know where it’s coming from.
(K)He just wanted reassurance, that’s all.
(B)As you know, he struggled with his own mind while you two were on your honeymoon. He looks much happier having spent time with Deirdre. I’m sure he still has those little voices in his head that he’s mentioned that probably still tell him what a monster he is.
(K)I figured as much, he said he still hates himself. Merig and I told him that we didn’t hate him and I told him that he’s most likely still harboring negative emotions toward himself. I advised him not to listen to those voices and to keep being happy and spending time with Deirdre, which seems to be giving him some semblance of happiness in his life. He told me that he wanted to let those negative emotions go and for the voices to shut up.
(B)Yeah, I understand where he’s coming from. I myself harbor some guilt and negative emotions toward myself.
(M)Why?
(B)For practically abandoning you, Merig. I honestly thought you hated me for not coming here with you and Larry.
(M)No, Barth, I didn’t hate you and I don’t hate you now. It was your choice to stay at the camp. I wasn’t going to force you. I didn’t know that Cromac had forced you to stay, and we had no way of communicating with you because we thought you had left to go somewhere else.
(B)I get it, but you didn’t have me here to protect you like I always did.
(M)I didn’t need you to protect me, Barth. I was old enough to protect myself, and Larry was with me for the past ten years. All I was focused on was being a Royal Guard and living with humans in peace again like I always wanted. I trained really hard to become the commander and then I met Kate and my life changed. Cormac left the camp and so did a lot of other bandits, as well as you and Gordo. I was happy that you came here and we could be a family again. Then everything else happened. I got married, and I was just knighted the other day. I have no reason to hold any kind of grudge against you, Barth. You’re my brother and I love you. I can never bring myself to hate you.
(B)[sigh] I understand and I’m relieved to hear that. I love you, too, little brother. Does Larry hate me?
(M)No, you’re his best friend, just like I am. No matter how much you two bicker, he loves you like a brother.
(B)Yeah, he’s told me that before. That takes an enormous weight off my chest.
(M)And technically, I abandoned you when Larry and I left the camp, so you should be the one to hate us.
(B)You know damn well that I don’t.
(M)Alright then, we don’t hate you, either.
(K)It seems you and Cormac have some lingering negative emotions against yourselves. Let them go. It’ll be much easier and it will feel so much better to let the weight roll off of you. It’s such a burden to hold on to the weight and you’re only hurting yourself. I learned that when I was battling with myself after what happened last year.
(S)She’s right, Barth, I may not be the smartest person, but I hold a lot of guilt from when my mother died. I never got to say goodbye to her and her death was so sudden. I held onto a lot of guilt as I got older. Like Kate’s mother, my mother got sick when I was young, but she sadly succumbed to her illness and she passed away. Because of that, I was determined to study medicine and save lives since my mother couldn't be saved.
(B)I’m so sorry, Sarah, I can’t imagine how you felt.
(S)It’s okay, I’m a healer now and every time I save a life, I think of her and wonder if she’s watching me and if she’s proud of me.
(B)I bet she is, there’s no doubt in my mind. Any parent would be proud of your accomplishment. You’ve saved my life and Cormac’s life. I can promise you that your mother is proud of you if she’s watching you save lives.
(S)And that’s what makes me want to keep living my life and being happy and smiling.
(B)Don’t ever stop smiling, Sarah, your mother wouldn’t want to see you depressed.
(S)I know, sometimes I’ll find myself missing her, and I’ll cry alone. But I remember that I have wonderful people in my life, so I’m not truly alone.
(B)That’s right, you’re not alone and you’ll never be alone.
(K)We love you, Sarah. You’re my best friend, along with Ash. We all adore you and we’re happy for you that you’re living your dream of being a healer.
(B)Absolutely, we don’t know what we’d do without you.
(S)Thank you, that means a lot. Look at what Barth surprised me with today.
(K)[gasp] Oh that’s so cute, it’s a little bunny charm.
(S)I know, right? I absolutely adore it. I told Barth I’ll wear it every day.
(K)Well, that was very nice of Barth to go out of his way to do that for you.
(S)Yes, it was, and I very much appreciate it.
(B)[blush] It was nothing. I told her I wanted to continue showing her my gratitude for saving my life. I even plan on taking her out for a day. We’re still planning on when.
(K)[gasp] You’re going on a date!?
(S)[blush] Kate, not you, too! Don’t embarrass me.
(K)This is exciting. There’s nothing to be embarrassed about.
(M)She’s right, it took me a year to ask her out on a date. You have more courage than I did, Barth.
(B)[blush] Listen, I just want to show her how grateful I am for her when she healed me after that fight with the bandits.
(K)[giggles] You’re both red in the face, it’s so cute. Relax, we're only joking.
(M)We hope you both have fun whenever you plan it.
(S)Nessa said she'd give me a day off, maybe in a couple of days when you're feeling better, Kate.
(K)Don't wait for my sake, but it's all up to you.
(B)We do want you to get better, though, I'm hoping that medicine works.
(K)Me too, I hate vomiting.
(S)I don't think anyone does, but whatever bug is in your stomach, it's trying to get it out.
(K)I understand, better out than in, huh?
(B)That's true. Well, it was good to see you, sis. I'm glad we could visit you.
(K)Me too. I really appreciate you all coming to see me, even though you didn't have to.
(S)Hey, you're my best friend, remember?
(K)[smiles] Of course, hon, I love you both.
(B)We love you, too, sis. Feel better soon. Merig will take good care of you.
(K)Oh, he already has, I don't know what I'd do without him.
(M)Thanks for stopping by and bringing more medicine. We'll see you both later.
(S)Of course, it was my pleasure.
(B)We're outta here. Rest well, sis.
(K)I will, bye, you two.
The four friends exchange their farewells, and soon Barth and Sarah step out of the room, leaving the cozy home behind. They go their separate ways, as Sarah heads back to the healer, while Barth strolls toward the pub to join the others. Upon arriving at the pub, Barth pushes open the door and spots Larry and the rest of the crew gathered at their familiar table. With a broad grin lighting up his face, he strides over to them, greeting everyone warmly before settling into a chair.
(B)Good afternoon.
(L)Hey, pal, you look happy.
(A)Did you get Sarah her gift?
(B)I did. I found a bracelet with a rabbit charm and a little rabbit statue and she loved it. She was gushing over both of them.
(L)See? We told you that you got this.
(A)Yeah, I'm glad she liked it.
(B)That's not all, though. I got myself a date with her.
(A)Holy shit, are you serious?!
(B)As serious as a heart attack. We haven't set up a day yet, but it's in the works. Maybe in the next few days.
(L)That's amazing, pal. I guess you do have the bigger balls and a shinier spine than your brother did.
(G)I'm impressed, Barth.
(DD)I'm sure she's happy about it.
(B)Oh, she is, I want to take her out for a day and spoil her.
(C)That sounds like fun. I'm happy for you both.
(B)Thanks, I'm surprised I even had the courage to do that. I was nervous, but I didn't want to hesitate anymore.
(A)I told you it would work out. You've charmed that woman.
(L)For sure, first it was the flowers, then a bracelet, and now you’ve scored a date with her. We knew you could do it.
(B)The funny thing is, she still has those periwinkles and they're sitting on her workstation. She's taken good care of them and they're still alive over three weeks later.
(G)Wow, that's amazing. She must have a knack for gardening.
(A)She does. She used to grow her own herbs for potions when we were teenagers. She knows how to take care of plants and flowers and she wants to own a greenhouse someday.
(DD)That would be a lot of fun. She wouldn't have to worry about going to the market for potion ingredients.
(C)Yeah, she'd have them on demand if she ran out at the healer.
(G)That would be convenient.
(B)I'm very excited about the date, even though we haven't actually planned a day yet.
(A)Good, be excited, just don't get too nervous.
(B)I'm more excited than nervous.
(A)That's exactly what Kate said before her and Merig's first date.
(L)Oh, Merig was sweating buckets, he was so nervous. But after seeing Kate, his confidence came back, and they had a wonderful date together.
(A)They had dinner together and danced in the sky.
(L)True Story.
(DD)How romantic. Their love story is so sweet.
(B)It really is. Oh hey Larry, I wanted to ask you something.
(L)Sure, pal, what's up?
(B)I asked Merig if he was mad at me for not coming here with you when you both left the camp. I wanted to know if you have any resentment toward me for it.
(L)Of course not, Barth. We all know the circumstances in which that happened, and that's all water under the bridge, too. But no, I don't hate you or resent you for it. Remember, we're all here now. All is forgiven, and we created a fresh start.
(C)I guess we had the same fear, Barth. I've been asking the same thing because of what I did. I know I'm the reason that you didn't leave with them and I'm sorry.
(L)The same goes for you, Cormac, we've talked about this and no, I don't hate you, either. This is a new chapter in our lives where we forgive and forget and wipe the slate clean.
(A)Agreed, I'm willing to put everything behind me and enjoy what's going on now. You even said yourself that you're happy again, Cormac, so just keep being happy. Just like Merig and Kate's marriage was their new beginning. Having everyone come together and live in peace here in this beautiful city of Tara is our new beginning.
(B)You know what? You're right, this is the time to let go of any guilt and move on. We're all here and we're like one big family. We support each other and we protect each other.
(C)You're right, Barth, life is good for us here. We should embrace it and be happy. I'm working on letting my inner self-hatred go, and Barth, you're making up for the past ten years that I held you hostage. You and Larry were the last two people that I was going to ask if you hate me for what I did to you.
(B)I still stand by what Kate said. I don't hate you, just what you did. Aside from Merig being my actual brother, you, Gordo, and Larry have been like my brothers as well and I never once had any hatred for either of you. I love you all like family.
(L)We love you, too, pal, and we love you as well, Cormac and Gordo. No matter what those voices tell you, you're no longer the monsters that you think you are. And Cormac, if you need any proof of that, she’s sitting right next to you.
(DD)[smiles] He's right, Cormac, you've been a wonderful person to me and everyone else around you. I don't see a monster when I look at you. I see someone who's kind and caring and goes out of their way to make people happy and protect them. I stand by everything I've said to you from the day when I visited you at the healer and now three weeks later.
(C)I understand now and you're absolutely right, all of you are. Thank you for opening my eyes once again and I'll work on letting go of my self-hatred that I still have.
(G)That's fine, work on yourself, but just remember that we don't hate you, we never did.
(L)That's right, let's turn the page and enter a new chapter, shall we?
(A)We shall, especially since we'll be planning our wedding in the next month or so.
(B)Hell yeah, I'm ready to enter a new chapter. I'm working to become a captain of the guards. And hopefully, I'll win Sarah's heart. I've already won a date with her, so anything is possible at this point.
(L)Optimism, we love that here.
(G)I'm ready to turn the page as well, Cormac and I will have fun sparring while he trains.
(C)I'll have fun as well and I'm ready for a new chapter myself. I'll train and get stronger again and spend as much time with Deirdre as possible.
(DD)[smiles] I'd be happy to be a part of your new chapter and everyone else's, too.
(A)We would be happy to have you, Deirdre. You're a part of the family now and the friend circle.
(L)That's right, let's have fun and be happy. A new slate, a new chapter, and a new beginning.
(B)Alright, let's do it.
(C)I second that and it'll start now.
(L)How about some drinks?
