The following morning in their cozy honeymoon cabin, Kate and Merig are nestled together in bed, dressed in their sleepwear and each other's warmth. Merig cradles Kate from behind, her head resting gently on his left arm, while his other arm encircles her waist, holding her close. As the sunlight filters through the curtains, Kate stirs awake, her eyes fluttering open. She glances back over her shoulder, a smile blooming on her face. Moments later, Merig also begins to wake, instinctively pulling Kate closer, his arms enveloping her in a tender embrace. He lifts his head and plants soft kisses along her cheek and neck, eliciting a gentle giggle from Kate. Turning her head to meet his gaze, the two exchange warm smiles, and Merig leans in to press a sweet kiss on her lips before breaking the morning silence.
(M)Good morning, my wife.
(K)Good morning, my husband.
(M)I almost don’t want to let go of you and get out of this bed.
(K)I don’t want you to, either, but we have another day ahead of us. Unless you want to spend it with me here in bed. But if you’re hungry, I’ll go make breakfast.
(M)Let me make you breakfast this time, but I want to spend a little more time in this bed with you.
(K)[smiles] Okay, my love, but I have to go to the bathroom first.
(M)Alright, so do I, so we have to get up, anyway.
(K)It’s okay, there’s no reason why we can’t lay back down and just cuddle all day.
(M)I’m sure you want to do something other than lay here in bed with a boring old me.
(K)Stop it, you’re not boring, you’re my husband and I want to spend as much time with you here alone as possible. We won’t be bothered or interrupted, so we can do whatever we want and it won’t be boring at all.
(M)[smiles] You’re absolutely right, we can do anything you want and it will be anything but boring.
(K)That’s right, let’s go to the bathroom, and then we can lay here some more and then we'll go cook breakfast together. Does that sound good?
(M)Sounds like the perfect plan.
Kate and Merig share another sweet kiss before making their way to the bathroom to freshen up for the morning. Once they’re done, they snuggle back into bed, enjoying each other's warmth for a little while longer. Eventually, they head downstairs to whip up breakfast together, with Kate chopping the ingredients while Merig takes charge at the stove. They exchange smiles and laughter, creating a joyful atmosphere as they cook side by side. After a delightful meal, Kate finds herself outside on the porch, gently swaying on the wooden bench swing while savoring a warm and soothing cup of tea. Moments later, Merig joins her, settling beside her and wrapping his arm around her shoulders. Their eyes meet, and they share a soft smile followed by a tender kiss, after which Kate rests her head against Merig’s shoulder. Together, they rock gently on the swing, taking in the serene beauty of nature around them. With a deep, calming breath, Kate finally breaks the silence.
(K)It’s so quiet and peaceful out here and I'm at peace. Especially being here with you, my love.
(M)Me too, I seldom want to leave. Maybe every few months we'll come here for a week and just relax like this.
(K)I'd love that very much, you can steal me away and bring me here and we can destress, like a vacation.
(M)I’d love that, too. So are you enjoying yourself so far?
(K)Absolutely, I'm having the time of my life here with my husband. What about you?
(M)Of course. I'm having a wonderful time here with my wife.
(K)[smiles] Good, 'cause I wouldn't want to bore you.
(M)Hey, if I’m not boring, then neither are you. I'm enjoying sitting here with you and I love how quiet it is. No guard duties, no bandits, no one knocking on our door while we're making love. Peace, quiet, and privacy.
(K)Oh, I'm definitely enjoying not having any disturbances. And we could even walk around the cabin naked if we wanted to.
(M)[sputter] W-W-Well, uh I s-s-suppose that's an option.
(K)[giggles] I love it when you do that. You act like you've never seen me naked.
(M)[sigh] Sweetheart, you’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, and seeing your naked body is a sight to behold. To this day, it catches me off guard and makes me fall in love with you, and reminds me of when we first made love. I was so nervous, but I was also bewitched by your beauty and I knew I wanted to be with you and make love to you.
(K)I’ll always remember it, giving myself to you for the first time. I was nervous, too, but it was the best decision I ever made, second to marrying you, of course.
(M)Oh, of course, it was the best decision I ever made as well. But the best decision I made that started it all was telling you that I love you and everything that transpired afterward. If I didn’t tell you how I felt, we wouldn’t be here, and you wouldn’t be Mrs. Flynn.
(K)[smiles] That’s very true and now we’re living happily ever after.
(M)That’s right, we are and I’ll always be happy with you.
(K)I’ll always be happy with you, too, my love.
(M)Now let’s just hope that Larry and Ash can be happy soon as well.
(K)What do you mean?
(M)Well, the day I proposed to you, I encouraged Larry to propose to Ash after our wedding. He said he would do it after our honeymoon so that you and I can witness it.
(K)[smiles] Seeing my best friend get engaged will be wonderful. Ash and Larry are so in love. She was really apprehensive about a relationship with him, but she really wanted to give him a chance at the same time. I encouraged her to do it and she’s so happy that she did, and so is Larry. I’m sure Ash would be thrilled if he proposed to her. She even told me she loves him so much that if he asked her to marry him, she would say “yes”.
(M)Kind of ironic, since Larry was the one that encouraged me to confess my love for you. And you encouraged Ash to do that same and now they’re happy. Best friends encouraged each other to take chances and happiness is the result.
(K)That’s what friends are for. Real friends don’t sugarcoat anything, they push you to do things. It’s best to listen to them because they can be wise people. Ash said that she would have told me to avoid you if she thought that you were a bad person and I trusted her judgment of you.
(M)Well, I’m the one who pushed Larry to propose to Ash. I even had an engagement ring made by the same jeweler that made your ring and that’s the ring that Larry is going to propose to Ash with.
(K)That was so nice of you to do for him, Merig. I can’t wait to see him pop the question to her. Our best friends pushed us and we pushed them and the outcome was better than we expected, huh?
(M)Absolutely, which is why after Larry pushed me to tell you how I felt, I just started doing things on my own, because I knew how you felt about me. I asked you on a date. I kissed you for the first time. We danced in the sky. I asked you to be with me, then we made love for the first time. That all happened in just a few weeks and I don’t regret one minute of it.
(K)That’s right, my love, I did all of those things with you and I don’t regret one second of it.
(M)...Then you were taken from me and I went scorched earth to bring you back to me, just like I told you I would.
(K)[smiles] How could I forget? You found me and came to rescue me…and then I lost you, so I thought.
(M)But you brought me back and then we got married and now here I am on a honeymoon with you, Mrs. Flynn.
(K)[smiles] And it was all worth it, bringing you back to me. Sometimes I still shed a tear, thinking back on it, but then I look at you and I put my arms around you and I’m thankful that you’re here with me. You’re my husband and here we are enjoying our time alone together. I’m at peace.
(M)So am I, but you know if you ever get like that and you need me, I’m here. You’re my wife and I don’t like seeing you like that. I’ll always be here to take your pain away.
(K)I know, my love, and you do a wonderful job and I appreciate everything you do for me. Sometimes I just want to sit in silence and hold you and have you hold me. It helps me since I still have my moments where I think about the worst and it’s unbearable. Like right now, I just want to sit here with you and listen to the nature around us and just live in the moment in your arms. I want to lay my head on you, close my eyes, and just touch you and feel the warmth of you and feel you touching me.
(M)If that’s what you want, I’ll sit here with you for as long as you want me to and I’ll hold you in my arms and touch you. Maybe even kiss you if you want.
(K)[smiles] I would love that very much and I’ll enjoy this chamomile and lavender tea. It’s a very calming tea and I love it, and I love you, my husband, my goblin, my earth.
(M)[smiles] I love you, too, my wife, my human, my moon.
Kate lifts her gaze to meet Merig's eyes, and a warm smile spreads across their faces. As Merig leans closer, they share a tender kiss. Afterward, Kate nestles her head against Merig’s shoulder once again, and they sway gently on the porch swing, savoring the peaceful moment together. Meanwhile, in the bustling city, Larry, Ashley, and Barth occupy their favorite table at the pub, engaged in lively conversation.
(A)So I’m curious, Barth, did you actually buy those flowers for Sarah?
(B)I sure did, and I personally delivered them to her at the healer.
(L)I’m impressed that you didn’t chicken out.
(B)Hey, when I say I’m going to do something, I’m determined.
(A)So did she like them?
(B)[smiles] She was over the moon for them, she was very surprised and it made her day and she even gave me a hug.
(L)[snicker] Oh wow, a hug. Next thing you know, you’ll be kissing.
(B)[eye roll] Very funny, asshole, it’s kind of a big deal for me, okay?
(L)Did you hold her hand, too?[smirk]
(B)[scowl] Don’t make me come over there.
(A)Stop it, Larry. I think it’s sweet that she gave you a hug, Barth. I bet it made her really happy that you took the time out of your day to do such a sweet thing for her.
(B)Oh yeah, she was very happy. She also checked out my arm to see how it’s been healing and she said she was worried. She took a look at it and was happy to see that it was healing well and it’s practically a scar now.
(L)[chuckles] How did it feel to have her touch your scar? I bet you flexed your muscles while she examined you.
(B)No, but I’m sure that’s something you would do to flirt with Ash.
(A)He’s not wrong, sweetheart, I can see you doing something like that.
(L)Hey, I’ve been working on these guns for a long time now and I’m damn proud of them. Besides, I need my muscles to be able to swing my blades around.
(B)We get it, Larry, but I try my best to be as much of a gentleman as possible.
(A)If you’re anything like your brother, I can believe it.
(L)Hey, I’m a gentleman, too. I may flirt a lot, but I still hold doors open for this beautiful woman and I show her the utmost respect and love.
(A)He’s not wrong, either, Barth. Larry is a true gentleman and I live with him.
(B)Wait, what? You two live together now?
(A)Well, not technically yet, but we talked about it last night and I decided I want to take another step in our relationship. Larry has been asking me to move in with him and I’ve been…hesitant, but I’ve thought it over and I've decided that it’s what I want. So I’m going to be taking the next day or so to pack my things and Larry is going to help me with a cart and horse to transfer everything.
(B)Wow, congrats, that must be exciting for you both.
(A)Very exciting. Larry and I have been together for about eight months now and we've been living in separate homes, other than me spending the night with him most nights. I had my reasons for being hesitant, but I decided to work on myself and not be so hesitant anymore. It's time I stop letting my past affect my future, especially with Larry.
(B)Good for you, Ash, I'm really happy for you. The past can affect you, but it doesn't have to hinder your happiness. Kate and Merig are a prime example, but it seems Cormac is letting it hinder him.
(A)I've been learning from Kate and Merig and they've definitely influenced my decisions in the past and present, especially when it comes to my relationship with Larry. Also, I agree about Cormac, he's letting his past affect his future and happiness in life and I wish he would forgive himself.
(B)I do, too. He could very well become consumed by his guilt, just as he did with the pain from the betrayal of the human that gave him his scar.
(L)We told Cormac that we're here for him, but he doesn't seem to want any help. He took our advice and went home to rest, hopefully.
(B)If anything, I can see if Nessa or even Sarah can make a house call and go visit Cormac at his home to see how bad he's doing.
(A)That would be a good idea, I'm sure he needs it. But it's probably best if he goes to them first. Maybe one of us can get his stubborn ass to go today.
(B)It'll probably be me since I'm good at talking sense into him, but we'll wait until we see him next.
The conversation among the group persists until the door to the pub swings open moments later, as Cormac enters. Upon noticing the group at the table, he proceeds towards them. As he nears, all members at the table glance up to acknowledge Cormac, who takes his customary seat and is warmly greeted by the others.
(B)Well, speak of the devil. We were just talking about you. How are you feeling? Did you finally go home and rest?
(C)Actually yeah, I did, and I'm feeling pretty good today. I haven't done anything strenuous or physically taxing yet. I slept the rest of the day yesterday and I’ve been asleep all morning and now I'm here, I almost wanted to sleep in.
(A)It probably would've been good for you.
(C)Yeah, probably, but I feel refreshed for now. But my chest and shoulder still hurts.
(B)You should probably go to the healer and see what they can do for you.
(C)I'll be fine, as long as I rest. I don't want to get scolded by Nessa.
(B)Cormac, you need something for the pain. I know it must hurt and getting scolded is the least of your problems.
(C)Listen, I did something stupid and I'm suffering the consequences.
(B)You don't have to suffer, though. I'm glad you're finally resting, but you need to go see Nessa and Sarah. They can help you.
(L)He’s right, Cormac, you're suffering and we don't want to see you suffer. At least get checked out, so we know you're okay.
(A)We know it must be difficult for you and if you've injured yourself even more, then it's important to get help.
(C)Why are you all so concerned?
(B)Because believe it or not, you're a friend and we help each other because we care. From what you told us the other day, you're going through something mentally and we don't want to see you go through it. We're here to help you, and the first thing you need to do is get that shoulder checked out.
(C)[sigh] Maybe you're right, I've been neglecting myself and I've just been overrun with anguish. But I feel like it's deserved.
(A)No one deserves that, Cormac, not even you.
(C)Do you remember what Kate said to me that night before she revived Merig?
(L)She said a lot through her tears and screams.
(C)Well, one thing she said that sticks with me, was that she hoped that I would suffer for what I did.
(B)Not this again, Cormac, we talked about this.
(C)It's not something I can exactly help, Barth, it's been echoing in my head ever since.
(A)So you think you deserve to be in pain like you are?
(L)That was before Merig was brought back, so I'm sure Kate said that out of pure anger and didn't mean it.
(C)Maybe, maybe not, but despite everything, Kate seems to care about me.
(B)She does, and so do we. You think we all hate you, Cormac, but that couldn't be further from the truth. We just hated the person you became.
(A)He’s right, we aren’t heartless people and we’ll help you just like we helped Kate.
(L)And if Kate can conquer the anguish she went through, so can you. We know people go through it differently, but we want you to be at peace with yourself and let go of your guilt.
(C)I realize that and I know you all care, but I just can’t seem to let go of my guilt.
(B)You know, this is something that Kate went through after everything happened. Ash and I, as well as everyone else, were here for her and we helped her get through it like we told you we did. Do you know what happened? She started getting better because we kept telling her that everything was okay and that we cared about her. Kate and Merig both worked some things out as well because Kate was worried that she was a burden to Merig and didn’t want to overwhelm him with what she was going through. Turns out that he was more than happy to be there for Kate the most and all she had to do was talk to him, but she was afraid because she had some guilt from when Merig sacrificed his life to save her. What I’m trying to say is, that it’s best to talk to people, even if you think they’ll be burdened by you, because odds are, they’re willing to help you through whatever you’re going through. Kate wasn’t alone and neither are you and if I have to talk more sense into you, then I will.
(C)Alright, I get it. It looks like I have some things to work on with myself. You all seem to be willing to help me, and I shouldn’t turn that down.
(A)Do you know who else you shouldn’t turn down? Deirdre.
(C)[sigh] Yeah, I know I screwed that up for myself. I really like her. She was very kind to me at the reception and I think she’s beautiful.
(L)It’s never too late to talk to her, take her out or something, do something nice for her. Barth bought flowers for Sarah and took them to her at the healer.
(A)Just go have dinner with her like she wanted and see how it goes from there.
(C)I felt terrible for rejecting Deirdre, it’s been eating at me.
(B)Well, there’s one thing you can do to help yourself, make it up to her. The next time you see her, invite her to go out with you.
(C)You’re right, I should do that if she doesn’t hate me already.
(A)I’m sure it’ll be fine. If Deirdre was devastated about you turning her down, then I’m sure she’ll be thrilled if you asked her out.
(L)Yeah, you should be in the clear. Just apologize and take her out and do something nice for her.
(C)[sigh] Alright if I see her again, I’ll talk to her. Barth, if you want, you and I can go to the healer. If Nessa scolds me, I probably deserve it for neglecting myself.
(B)Alright, buddy, let’s go get you taken care of. We’ll see you two later, and congrats again on moving in together.
(C)What? You two are living together?
(L)Not yet. Ash is going to take a day or so to pack up her things and I’ll be taking over a horse and cart to help her move.
(C)Congrats, I’m sure you’re both happy about it.
(A)[smiles] Oh definitely. Long story, but I figured it was time since we’ve been together for so long.
(L)We’re very happy about it. But you go get taken care of, Cormac, and don’t be stubborn anymore. If Nessa and Sarah give you medicine, take it, or any advice that they give you. We want to see you heal properly and, like we told you before, we’re here for you if you need to talk. We want to see you forgive yourself so you can feel better about yourself. That doesn’t necessarily mean you have to forget your actions. Just embrace the fact that you’re back to the old you and move on. If Deirdre finds out about your past, I really hope she can look past it.
(C)[sigh] I do too, I’ll prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
(B)That’s all you can do, but for now, let’s head to the healer.
(C)Alright, I’m ready.
(L)You two be safe.
(A)Good luck, Cormac, and get the help you need.
(C)Thanks, we’ll come back here when we’re done.
(B)We’ll see you both later. Come on, buddy.
Barth and Cormac push back in their chairs and rise from their seats, their eyes fixed on the exit as they make their way out of the pub. With a sense of purpose, they stride towards the healer's, eager to have Nessa and Sarah assess Cormac's condition. Meanwhile, at the healer's workshop, Sarah's hands move skillfully as she crafts medicine from the herbs she acquired at the market yesterday. Nessa, in a separate part of the room, is lost in focus as she meticulously reorganizes the cupboards. Suddenly, the door swings open, and Barth and Cormac step inside, the door creaking shut behind them. Barth offers a warm greeting, and the two women turn, their attention drawn to the pair of goblins standing before them.
(B)Good afternoon, lovely ladies.
(S)[smiles] Hey, Barth…and Cormac?
(C)Hey, Sarah…hey, Nessa.
(N)Well, this is an unexpected visit. Is everything okay?
(B)Well, as I explained the other day, this stubborn goblin has been failing to take care of himself at home and refused to rest, until today. After the efforts of the rest of the group, he finally rested for the remainder of the day yesterday and this morning. He says he feels better after sleeping so much, but we advised him to come here and get a proper checkup and maybe something to remedy his pain. He also has some apologizing to do, don’t you, Cormac?
(C)[sigh] That’s right, three weeks after I started recovering, I was overzealous and did some combat training in the forest, even though I knew I shouldn’t have. I’ve been struggling to cope with the fact that I’m alive after a near-death experience and I felt I shouldn’t have survived such an event because of my past wrongdoings that I can’t seem to forgive myself for, even though I’ve been working to better myself and received the forgiveness from the people that I hurt. The guilt that I feel from my actions has caused me to spiral into depression and self-neglect as I feel that I’m deserving of this pain that I’m going through. But Barth and the others seem to care a lot and they’ve encouraged me to come here and to not reject help if it’s offered. I owe you two ladies my sincerest apology because you both saved my life only for me to let it go to waste because of what I'm going through mentally. I’m so sorry that your efforts were in vain and I realize that I need to get better and not feel this pain anymore and I’ve come here to seek help once again. If you’re willing to help me, that is. I can guarantee you that I will follow your advice and get better, no matter how long it takes. So for the sake of the people who care about me, as well as myself, will you please help me? I’m in a lot of pain.
(S)[smiles] Of course we will, Cormac, it’s our job to give help to anyone who asks for it. I know I’ve been offering you my pain-reducing potions for a while now and my offer still stands.
(C)[sigh] As much as I want to tough it out, I also want this pain to go away. I’ll be more than happy to receive any treatment you two offer me.
(N)Sarah is right, it’s our job. Now come over here and sit on one of the beds and we will be happy to examine you.
(C)[nods] Yes ma’am.
(B)Thank you so much, you two. This means a lot.
(S)Absolutely, everyone in this city means a lot to us, including you, Cormac. Let me get a few things ready, and I’ll be over there in a few minutes, Nessa.
(N)Sure thing, sweetheart, I’ll prepare a few things myself.
Nessa's face lights up with a warm smile as she approaches Cormac, gently guiding him to a nearby bed. He sits down, and Nessa and Sarah swiftly prepare to examine the pain in his shoulder. Sarah expertly gathers an assortment of medicines and her renowned pain-reducing potions, while Nessa fills a small bowl with warm water and submerges a soft rag, carrying it to the bedside table beside Cormac. As Cormac removes his shirt, Nessa's trained eyes examine the wound on his shoulder, her expression focused. Sarah carefully places the medicine and potions next to the bowl of water, her movements quick and precise. Nessa then grabs the rag from the bowl, gently wrings it out, and sits beside Cormac on his right side as she begins to carefully clean his wound with tender care. Meanwhile, Barth moves from his observational post, his eyes fixed on the scene unfolding before him, and approaches the foot of the bed, his presence supportive.
(N)[sigh] This wound has reopened so many times and it looks like it’s starting to get infected. We have to treat it before it gets worse. Sarah, can you bring me the disinfecting liquid, please?
(S)Sure thing, Miss Nessa.
Sarah strides over to the medicine cupboard, her hands diving into the clutter as she searches for what she needs. After a moment, she triumphantly retrieves a bottle along with some cotton and returns to Nessa's side. Nessa carefully selects a piece of cotton, saturating it with the transparent disinfectant before gently applying it to Cormac’s injury. He winces, a low grunt escaping his lips as the sting bites, yet he grits his teeth and bears the discomfort, permitting Nessa to carry on with the treatment.
(N)I know it stings, but I don’t want this infection to progress. I’m going to put some antibiotic ointment on it and bandage it up again. You’re going to have to keep it on for a day and then clean it every day and replace the bandage. I’ll give you some ointment to put on it each day and something for the pain, but only take it when you need it.
(C)Of course, I wouldn’t want to overdo it.
(B)See, Cormac? We got you here just in time before things got worse.
(N)He’s right, you’re very lucky the infection has only just started. I’m tempted to keep you for a couple of days to make sure it doesn’t get worse.
(C)Whatever you feel you need to do, I’ll do whatever you need me to.
(S)Everything will be okay, Cormac, we'll take good care of you here.
(C)Thank you both, I’m sorry for everything.
(N)Think nothing of it, love, just focus on healing. If you had waited any longer, your life would be at risk. Luckily, this won’t take much longer to heal, maybe a few more weeks of cleaning it and resting at home. I’ll keep you here for a couple of days to keep an eye on you and make sure that your wound doesn’t get more infected.
(C)[sigh] Yes ma’am, I guess I better get cozy, then.

(B)You’ll be just fine here, buddy. I’ll come and visit. Listen to what these two lovely ladies tell you and don’t ignore their advice, got it? Or I’ll kick your ass.
(C)I hear you loud and clear, it’s kind of hard not to.[smirk]
(B)You’re lucky these ladies are treating you, or I’d kick your ass right now.
(S)Hey, that’s the first time I’ve seen you smile, Cormac.
(C)Oh uh, yeah, I haven’t really been happy lately as I told you before. It’s been hard to at least smile and be thankful that I’m alive.
(S)I know and I’m so sorry you’re going through that. I just like seeing people happy, especially my friends.
(B)Same here and you need to be happy that you’re alive and that we’re here for you. Cormac also said that he would be talking to Deirdre the next time he sees her and ask her on a date.
(S)Oh, I hope you do see her again, she’s such a sweet person.
(N)Take that woman on a date, Cormac, it’ll help your depression.
(B)He’s worried that she will find out about his past and won’t want anything to do with him, even though he’s changed.
(N)Don’t be afraid to take chances, Cormac, because odds are she already knows about you. Most of the city does since what you did caused a big commotion among the citizens. But Barth is right, you’re not that person anymore and you’re better than you used to be.
(C)I know, it’s just the fact that I’m not happy with myself for what I did.
(N)You don’t have to be happy with yourself for what you did, Cormac, you just have to be happy with yourself for what you’re doing now. From what I understand from what Barth told us, that person wasn’t the real you, so put that person behind you and look at the old you, the real Cormac. You can hate the person you became and what you did because you acknowledge that what you did was wrong. But don’t hate the person you really are because of what you’re doing now and being the better Cormac you know yourself to be.
(C)I never thought of it that way. You’re absolutely right, Nessa.
(B)The day we brought you here when you got hurt, I said that the Cromac you are now is the one that we goblins know you to be. Myself, Larry, Merig, and Gordo, were happy that you came here and changed back into the better Cormac, the one that would die for us and the one that almost died protecting humans, the ones you had so much resentment for. You protected them because you cared about Kate and her parents.
(C)I told Kate that she was nothing like the humans I resented. Before I came here, I realized that I didn’t hate humans, just the ones that hurt me. I’ve met so many more wonderful humans here in Tara and even back in Taill, I just met the wrong ones. The one that hurt me the most was a part of the humans that hate Fomors and I just got unlucky enough to call him my friend. It was a big mistake, and I stooped to his level, something I shouldn’t have done.
(S)And that’s what makes you a better person than the one you became, because you realized that having that much hatred for humans wasn’t the best thing to do, but you were still hurt by the one that hurt you. You felt justified in your actions because of that pain, but all you had to do was see for yourself that not all humans are like that.
(C)You’re absolutely right and I regret everything I did, so I should just move on and do better things again.
(N)Exactly, you already did a very heroic thing and put two other lives before your own. That’s a great thing, but you also need to take care of yourself since you lived through it. You’re only hurting yourself and you’re wrong if you think you deserve it because the only person that thinks that is you.
(B)Even Kate said she didn’t want you to die, and that you didn’t deserve death. She also said that you deserved a second chance, and you heard what she said to you while you were sleeping, but you still listened to her.
(C)Yeah, you’re right, all three of you are right and I can’t live like this. I want all this anguish to fade out so I can be happy again. The only person that’s stopping me is myself, and I need to let myself be happy and forgive myself.
(B)That’s right, buddy, now you understand. Don’t get in the way of your own happiness and we sure as hell won’t either. You deserve it.
(C)[smiles] Thanks Barth, you’re a good friend, you too Sarah, as well as everyone else in my life. Thank you, Nessa, for opening my eyes.
(N)Healing isn’t the only thing I can do, Cormac. I care a lot about my patients and the friends I’ve made. You are both a patient and a friend, so I’m here if you ever need advice and not just medical advice. Now, enough chatting, I need to finish cleaning your wound and dress it up in a nice bandage. After that, you can get comfortable here in this bed and rest for a day or so, you hear me?
(C)Loud and clear, Miss Nessa. Thank you for treating me.
(N)Of course, love, and after all of this is done and over with, take Deirdre on a date and find your happiness again.
(C)[chuckles] I definitely will. I just hope she doesn’t hate me.
(B)I’m sure it’ll be fine, you got this, buddy. I’ll be here for a bit before I head back to the pub, so just sit tight and relax.
(C)Aye, Captain.
(B)I’m no captain, yet, but I'm working on it, though.
(S)You’ll get there soon. I believe in you, Barth. You’re a very powerful mage.
(B)Why thank you, Sarah, that means a lot coming from you.
(N)Oh, that’s right, you’re working to become captain, aren’t you, Barth?
(B)Yeah, Merig says I still have the training to do, but that’s okay, I’m in no rush.
(C)And once I fully recover, I’ll officially start my training as a guard.
(S)I’m sure you’re excited but don’t get too excited. Promise us you won’t do anything to hurt yourself again, Cormac.
(C)I promise, you have my word. I don’t want to be in pain anymore. I don’t care how long it takes.
(B)Glad to hear it. I’ll kick your ass if you break that promise.
(C)Thanks, buddy, I’ll gladly take the ass-kicking. You should head back to the pub and let Larry and Ash know what’s going on, and Gordo, too, if you see him.
(B)Alright, you’re in excellent hands, I’ll come see you tomorrow, rest easy.
(C)I will, I’ll see you tomorrow.
(S)[smiles] See you later, Barth.
(B)[smiles] See you later, Sarah. Bye, Nessa.
(N)Bye, Barth.
Barth and Sarah exchange a warm, knowing smile, their eyes crinkling at the corners, before Barth turns and makes his way to the exit, disappearing into the bright sunlight as he heads back to the pub. Meanwhile, Larry and Ashley remain engrossed in their lively conversation, nestled in the cozy table at the pub. Their faces glow with happiness as they chat about the upcoming adventure of Ashley moving in with Larry, their words tumbling out with excitement.
(A)I may have to stay the night back at my place while I’m packing. Will that be okay? Unless you want to stay the night with me and help me pack. You’re already doing enough by helping me move, so I don’t want to make you do that.
(L)It’s all up to you, my fiery goddess. I don’t mind helping you pack and move. It will be no problem at all.
(A)Only if you’re sure.
(L)As sure as I am about being in love with you.
(A)[smiles] Alright, we can even make love in my bed if you’d like.
(L)[smiles] I like that idea a lot.
(A)I hope everything is okay with Cormac. I hope he's actually getting help this time.
(L)He sounded serious about going to see Nessa and Sarah. Let's just hope he sticks to his recovery this time and listens to what they tell him to do.
(A)Yeah, I have a feeling Nessa will make Cormac stay there. I know her. When I'd get hurt pretty badly during my early training, she'd make me stay a night or two.
(L)Yeah, you remember when I'd come and visit you and bring you flowers?
(A)[smiles] How could I forget? There were a few times I'd wake up, and you'd be passed out in another bed. I'd tell you to go home, but you never listened to me.
(L)Yeah, I'd get so worried about you, I'd have a hard time sleeping at home. So I'd come and visit and stay the night and luckily Nessa didn't mind.
(A)I thought you were crazy as hell for doing that, but…that's when my feelings for you started developing. I saw how much you cared and went out of your way to make sure I was okay.
(L)Of course, because I love you that much, even to this day I worry about you.
(A)Well, you don't have to worry about me anymore, cause I'll be with you every day and you can make sure I'm okay in our home.
(L)That's right, my love, I'll be able to protect you from harm and take care of you.
(A)I'll take care of you, too, honey.
(L)Oh trust me, you do more than enough for me and then some. As long as you're there, I'm taken care of.[wink]
(A)Hey, you take good care of me, too. You make me happy, and you make me forget about the pain from my past. That's all I ever really need from you.
(L)I'll give you the world if it makes your pain go away.
(A)I know you will, but you're all I need, and the love you give me.
(L)Well then you have me, no questions asked.
(A)Good, now if you’ll excuse me, I’m hungry and I haven’t had lunch yet. What about you?
(L)Sure, get me my usual if that’s okay. Please and thank you, beautiful.
(A)[smiles] Of course, handsome, I love you.
(L)[smiles] I love you, too.
Larry and Ashley's eyes lock in a loving gaze, their smiles mirroring each other's joy, before Larry's hand gently cradles Ashley's chin, drawing her in for a tender kiss. Ashley's face flushes with delight as she rises from her seat, her eyes sparkling, and makes her way to the bar to order a savory treat for the couple. Meanwhile, Larry waits patiently at their table, his eyes never straying far from Ashley's radiant presence. As Ashley chats with Sherry, a vibrant woman with bright orange hair notices Larry from across the room, her gaze lingering on him like a warm caress. Larry's eyes stray for a moment as he eventually meets the woman's gaze. Larry acknowledges her with a subtle half-smile before refocusing on Ashley, who's still engrossed in conversation. After her order is taken, Ashley senses his gaze and turns, her and Larry's eyes entwining in a loving glance. Larry's sultry eyes wink at her, and he blows a playful air kiss, which Ashley reciprocates with a giggle. The orange-haired woman's smile drops, her eyes clouding with a hint of disappointment, as she observes the affectionate exchange between Larry and Ashley. After a moment's hesitation, she rises from her seat, her movements fluid, and approaches Larry at the table with a confident stride. As she greets him, Larry looks up, his expression polite, yet guarded.
(R)Hey, there.
(L)Uh, hi.
(R)I’m Rachel.
(L)I’m Larry. Nice to meet you.
(R)Are you alone? You look kind of bored over here.
(L)Nah, I’m alright, just waiting for someone.
(R)Well, maybe I can keep you company until they get back.
(L)I guess there’s no harm in that.
(R)Wait, aren't you in the Royal Guards?
(L)That’s right, I'm acting Commander until my best friend gets back from his honeymoon.
(R)Oh, that sounds fun. Are you married to anyone?
(L)Not yet, but do you see that beautiful red-haired goddess over there at the bar? I'm going to ask her to marry me. It's been eight months and I'm waiting for my buddy to get back from his honeymoon before I pop the question.
(R)How sweet, do you love her?
(L)I don't even think love can explain how I feel about that woman. Enamored, bewitched, enchanted, enthralled, captivated, hypnotized, infatuated. I'm crazy about her.
(R)I see…so what do you do in the guards?
(L)I'm a master swordsman. I fight bandits along with my buddy. I'm second in command to him.
(R)Oh yeah, Commander Flynn, his wedding was quite popular in the city. He's very strong and brave. I'm sure he and his wife are happy together.
(L)Oh, those two are absolutely in love with each other and every other synonymous word that I mentioned. Merig only has eyes for Kate, and he's the only one for her as well. I'm the same way with my red-hot flame over there.
(R)It must be exhausting work in the Royal Guards.
(L)Not really. I love what I do and when I'm not doing that, I'm either here or at home spending time with my woman and adoring her. My life is perfect at the moment.
(R)Did you get her a ring?
(L)I sure did a silver band with two rubies in the center. It symbolizes two flames burning for eternity. That's why I call her my “red-hot flame”. That and the fact that she has gorgeous red hair that I love running my fingers through.
(R)I sort of have red hair, it's more ginger than anything. Do you think my hair is pretty?
(L)Ginger is a pretty color for hair, especially if you have blue eyes.
(R)My eyes are green like emeralds. It's pretty rare to have green eyes with ginger hair.
(L)So I've heard, that's pretty unique. Also, you've been standing this entire time. Are you sure you don't want to sit down?
(R)Do you mind if I sit next to you?
(L)Actually, I don’t think that’s a good idea, but you’re more than welcome to sit across from me.
(R)I’m sure your girlfriend won’t mind.
(L)She would actually mind very much if you did, sorry about that.
(R)Then I guess I’ll sit here on top of the table.
(L)That's definitely not a good idea.
Rachel brushes off his caution and moves in closer, elevating herself as she perches on the edge of the table, directly facing Larry. His eyes go wide with shock, and he appears utterly horrified as he retreats in his chair, pushing it back in an attempt to create space between them. With a playful smile, Rachel gazes down at him, while Larry meets her gaze with a serious expression, ready to speak.
(L)I see where this is going now, and I’m going to have to ask you to kindly remove yourself from the table. My girlfriend would not appreciate you sitting here like this.
(R)I'm sure it'll be okay.
(L)It's most definitely not okay, I'm sorry, but this is making me very uncomfortable. Ash will be back here and if she sees you like this, she will not be very happy.
(R)Oh, come on, I'm not doing anything wrong, am I?
(L)For one, you're closer than you need to be and for two, I'm pretty sure you're flirting with me. Trust me, after years of flirting with that woman over there, I can definitely tell, and it's blatantly obvious that's what's happening. I'll ask you again to kindly remove yourself.
At the bar, Sherry efficiently completes preparing the culinary delights Ashley requested and hands her the steaming dishes. Ashley turns to head back to the table, but her gaze is apprehended by the tense scene unfolding before her. Rachel is perched on the edge of the table, her presence assertive, while Larry appears flustered, still trying to create distance between them. Ashley's expression clouds with concern, but she continues her approach, setting the food down on the table with a gentle clink. As she surveys the situation, Ashley's eyes narrow slightly, her annoyance apparent. She addresses Rachel in a tone that is cordial yet laced with irritation, her words measured and controlled.
(A)Hi…Do you need something?
(R)Oh hi, I'm Rachel, I just saw Larry over here alone and thought I'd keep him company.
(A)Well, he's not alone, I was actually just getting some lunch for the both of us. Is there a reason you're sitting there?
(R)I figured it was okay since Larry said it was.
(L)That’s not what I said and you know it. I specifically said you could sit across from me, not directly in front of me on the table.
(A)Well, you figured wrong, Miss Rachel. Now, if you don't mind, I'd like to sit and have a peaceful lunch with the love of my life. So why don’t you go back to wherever you were sitting and leave us to it?
(R)I’m not hurting anyone, am I?
(A)You’re hindering my afternoon with my goblin and I won’t hesitate to remove you from the table myself if I have to.
(R)Fine, I was only joking, calm down.
Rachel casts a sly grin at Ashley before gracefully hopping off the table. She strides back to her own spot, settling into her chair as her playful smirk morphs into a deep scowl. Ashley shoots her a fierce glare as she takes her place beside Larry, handing him his lunch. They both dig into their meals in a heavy silence. Ashley's face is etched with a frown, her eyes narrowing as she stares at her food, while Larry glances at her nervously, his voice laced with apology as he tries to break the tension.
(L)Sweetheart, I’m sorry.
(A)Let’s just eat, okay? I don’t want to talk about it.
Larry's brow furrows in deepening concern as he exhales with a heavy sigh, his silence hanging in the air as he and Ashley finish their meal amidst the pub's warmth. Just then, the door swings open and Barth strides in with purpose, as Gordo follows behind. The two goblins spot Ashley and Larry, who have just wrapped up their lunch, and their eyes meet as they notice the two approaching. With cheerful grins, Barth and Gordo settle into their seats, offering warm greetings to Ashley and Larry.
(B)Hey, you two.
(G)Good afternoon.
(L)Hey, guys.
(A)Hey, Barth, where’s Cormac?
(B)Well, Nessa is keeping him for a couple of days. She looked at his shoulder. Apparently, the wound has reopened several times and this time it’s starting to get infected. So Nessa wants to keep an eye on him to make sure it doesn’t get worse.
(A)[sigh] I figured as much. Is he at least going to be okay?
(B)Nessa said he would be fine as long as he keeps it clean and puts a fresh bandage on it daily. Nessa, Sarah, and I talked some more sense into him and he seems pretty serious about getting better.
(L)Good, let’s hope he actually sticks to what he said before you two left.
(B)You and I both, buddy, I’m going to go visit him tomorrow if you and Ash want to come with me.
(A)I wouldn’t mind visiting him.
(L)...Sure, I’ll go.
(B)Is everything okay? Did anything fun happen while I was gone?
(L)We’ve just been talking about the move, that’s all.
(A)I don’t feel well, I’ll be right back.
(L)Ash, wait.
Ashley abruptly rises from her chair, her expression clouded with distress, and strides toward the restrooms. Larry's gaze follows her retreating figure, a flicker of concern etched across his face. He exhales deeply, casting a glance at Barth and Gordo, before bowing his head in dismay. Barth and Gordo exchange puzzled glances, and Barth finally breaks the silence, his voice laced with worry.
(B)Are you sure nothing happened while I was gone?
(G)Yeah, Ash looks pretty upset.
(L)[sigh] Do you see that woman over there? The one diagonal to our table, with the ginger-haired woman sitting at it.
(B)...Oh no, Rachel, I know exactly who she is. Let me guess, she came over here and flirted with you?
(L)Actually yeah, how did you know?
(B)She tried it with Merig not long before the wedding. Kate left the table to get a drink and came back to Rachel sitting next to Merig, who was as polite as he usually is, and asked her to leave, but she didn’t listen, and I was sitting here when it happened. I take it Ash left the table when Rachel came over here.
(L)Yeah, she went to get us something to eat. Ash was silent the entire time we ate and, as you can see, she hardly ate much.
(B)Oh boy, that’s not good.
(G)I can only imagine what she was thinking.
(L)Well, Rachel sat right here on the table in front of me and I told her to move, but she didn’t listen. When Ash came back, Rachel told her that I gave her permission to sit here on the table, which was not the truth.
(B)Yeah, that woman is bad news. Kate wasn’t happy and she kind of acted the same way Ash is right now. She stayed silent and didn’t even look Merig in the eyes like she usually does. Merig looked heartbroken, but he gently grabbed Kate and she finally looked at him, but she was crying at that point, so Merig told her that she had nothing to worry about and that he only loved her. They talked about it here for a while and it seemed to calm Kate down, but Rachel really put a damper on her. Merig and Kate didn’t come to the pub for a day or so, because Merig took her home and they spent the next couple of days together. When they came back, Kate looked happier, and so did Merig. Rachel did ask about him and I told her it was none of her business and she almost ruined Kate and Merig’s relationship. She seemed happy with herself but wasn’t happy that they were still getting married, and she even tried that shit when Kate and Merig came back. But Merig wasn’t having it and told her to screw off a little less politely than before. That woman will ruin your relationship if you don’t do something about her, Larry.
(L)I did. I told her to leave. Ash did too when she came over here.
(B)But Ash didn’t hear you tell her to leave, did she?
(L)No, but I swear I did.
(B)I believe you, buddy, but it seems you weren’t assertive enough or Ash wouldn’t be upset.
(L)I was caught off guard. I didn’t know what else to do or say.
(G)You could’ve just moved her off of the table.
(L)Oh yeah, that would’ve gone so well if I did that, Gordo. If I even laid a finger on her, it would not have ended well.
(B)He’s right, Gordo, it’s best to just tell her to leave until she does.
(G)I would’ve removed Rachel from the table. I don’t care what she would’ve said. It’s best to show Ash that you don’t want anything to do with that woman. Knowing Ash’s past, she’s probably thinking the worst right now. Be a bit more aggressive, Larry, so that Ash knows that you’re not easily swayed by another woman.
(B)Wow, he’s absolutely right, Larry. You have a bunch of witnesses in this pub and friends to back you up if Rachel tries anything stupid like that.
(G)Hey, I’m smarter than you all think.
(B)I never said you weren’t, Gordo, I just didn’t think you understood women.
(G)You’re one to talk as if I’ve never talked to a woman before, Barth. I’m also sure it would be the same if the roles were reversed and Larry saw another male flirting with Ash. If I know Ash, she would’ve told him to screw off.
(L)Actually, that’s already happened with her ex, the one that was unfaithful to her. That asshole thought he’d come here and asked if she was single right in front of me. When she told him to get lost and she was with me, he got all pissy and I had to become aggressive with him. He even called her a “whore” when she turned his sorry ass down and I came really close to punching him.
(G)Exactly, be assertive and aggressive. Ash is still healing from that, from what she told us at least. I’m sure you can imagine what’s going through her head right now as we speak.
(L)Ash knows me, though, she knows I’ve never even looked at another woman the way I look at her or even thought about another woman the way I think about her.
(B)Yeah, but when a situation like this happens, you have to show her that and let her know by asserting to Rachel that you want nothing to do with her romantically.
(L)You’re right, you’re both right. How could I be so stupid? I should’ve learned from the interaction with Ash’s ex and applied it to this situation now.
(B)That’s right, but the only difference is, this woman is trying to throw herself at you like she did with Merig. Even he learned to be less polite despite his personality for the sake of the woman he loves.
(L)[sigh] You’re right, I’ll be less polite next time.
(G)Good. Now when Ash comes back, you’ve got some apologizing to do.
(L)Yeah, I guess I do.
The goblins chatter away for a little while longer until Rachel realizes that Ashley has vanished from the table. A sly smirk spreads across her face as she rises from her seat. With calculated steps, she approaches Larry. Just as she reaches him, with a dramatic flourish, she feigns losing her balance and plops down into Larry's lap, using his startled form as a makeshift support. Barth and Gordo's eyes widen in unison, their faces frozen in a mix of shock and horror, while Larry's face twists into a scowl. Rachel giggles, while Larry’s scowling face turns a deep shade of crimson. His voice, when it finally emerges, is laced with anger and disbelief.
(L)What the hell, Rachel?!
(R)Oops, didn’t mean to do that.
(B)Oh, you most definitely meant to do that, Rachel.
(G)Yeah, that was no accident. We aren’t stupid enough to believe that.
(R)Oh hi Barth, I didn't even notice you were sitting there.
(B)Hi Rachel, I see you didn't have enough when you tried this shit with Merig, did you? Sadly for you, he and Kate are married and on their honeymoon right now. I bet that pisses you off.
(R)[scoffs] Whatever, she can have him.
(B)Yeah, well, Merig was never yours to have in the first place. He gave himself to his now wife a long time ago and now you want to shoehorn yourself into someone else’s relationship, huh?
(R)[smirk] I don’t know what you mean.
(B)You know damn well what I mean.
(L)Listen, Rachel, you either remove yourself from my lap, or I will do it for you.
(R)You wouldn’t do that.
(L)Oh, but I would.
(R)I’m sure the people in this establishment wouldn’t appreciate seeing someone from the Royal Guards put his hands on a small and weak woman. All I have to do is scream and one of these men in here will come running to my rescue.
(L)You wouldn't dare. I'm second in command and everyone in this pub knows me personally. They're not going to believe you.
(G)I’m pretty sure this is harassment on your part, Rachel.
(R)[giggles] I’m not hurting anyone. Calm down.
(B)You don’t think you are, Rachel, but you are, now leave.
(L)I won’t ask you again and then I’ll move you off of me. I don’t care what you say or do.
Just moments later, Ashley steps out of the bathroom, her footsteps echoing softly as she heads back to the table. As she draws nearer, her gaze locks onto Rachel perched on Larry's lap, and her eyes go wide with disbelief. Larry, catching sight of Ashley, lifts his gaze, his expression morphing into one of sheer horror, while the other goblins turn in unison to witness her stunned presence looming behind them.
(A)Larry?
(L)Ash, I can explain.
(B)Oh shit.
(G)Oh, boy.
(A)I’m going home, we’re done, Larry. I don’t ever want to see you again.
(L)Ash, no wait!
Ashley glares at Larry, her expression darkening as tears begin to shimmer in her eyes. With a swift turn, she storms out of the pub, her footsteps echoing in her wake. Larry and the other goblins shift their focus back to Rachel, their eyes narrowing into fierce glares as she continues to sit on Larry's lap. A smug smile is plastered across her face, clearly reveling in the moment.
(L)Get off of me, right now if you know what’s good for you.
(R)But your lap is so comfy, and she’s gone now.
Larry's eyes blaze with anger as he fixes a furious glare on Rachel, his grip tightening around her before he forcefully shoves her off his lap and rises to his feet. He pushes her aside, leaving her momentarily speechless, her expression frozen in disbelief. Without a second thought, Larry pivots around the table and bolts toward the exit, intent on pursuing Ashley. As he storms out of the pub, Rachel's shock melts away, replaced by a smug smirk that spreads across her face, much to the dismay of Barth and Gordo, who watch her with narrowed eyes. Barth shakes his head in disapproval, his scowl deepening as he speaks with anger in his voice.
(B)I hope you’re happy with yourself. You have no idea what you’ve just done.
(G)I’m sure you got what you were hoping for.
(R)[smirk] Whatever, she’s not even that pretty.
(G)That’s not the point, Rachel, those two mean the world to each other, and you had no business getting in between them.
(B)They’ve been together for months and Larry was going to propose to her after Merig got back from his honeymoon with Kate. I really hope Sherry finally bans you from this place. You cause way too much trouble here.
(G)Go back to your damn table and leave people alone.
(R)Larry just doesn’t know what he’s missing out on.
(B)Goodbye, Rachel!
Barth and Gordo continue to glare at Rachel with a stern, disapproving gaze, their eyes blazing with a mixture of annoyance and disbelief. Rachel rolls her eyes before sauntering back to her table with an air of nonchalance, the smirk still plastered on her face. Meanwhile, Larry is outside of the pub, his eyes scanning the crowded streets with a growing sense of urgency as he searches for any sign of Ashley's fleeing form. From a distance, he catches sight of her rapid retreat, her slender figure weaving in and out of the bustling crowd. He takes off in hot pursuit, his long strides eating up the ground as he calls out her name in a voice tinged with worry and frustration. Ashley darts through the crowded streets, her feet pounding the cobblestones in a desperate bid for escape, as Larry gains on her, his breath coming in ragged gasps. Finally, they reach the familiar street of Ashley's home, where Larry catches up to her, his outstretched hand closes around her arm like a vice, bringing her to a sudden halt. She spins around and meets his gaze, her eyes brimming with tears, her chest heaving with exertion. Larry's face looms before her, his own breathing labored, his eyes burning with a mix of concern and determination.
(L)[panting] Ash, please stop running.
(A)No, let go of me!
(L)Sweetheart, please let me explain.
(A)What’s there to explain, Larry?! That woman was all over you and you didn’t stop her!
(L)I tried but she wouldn’t leave me alone.
(A)You could’ve tried harder!
(L)You know what? You’re right and I’m sorry, just please don’t leave me, Ash, I’m begging you we can talk about this.
(A)There’s nothing to talk about, we’re done, I never want to talk to you again!
(L)Ash, no please give me a chance to explain. Barth and Gordo can even tell you what happened. I swear I want nothing to do with that woman. She was very persistent.
(A)Bullshit, I trusted you not to hurt me!
(L)Sweetheart, I never even touched her other than to get her off of me before I left the pub. She threatened me if I touched her, but she ended up bluffing when I got angry with her.
(A)...You’re lying!
(L)Ash, I swear to you it’s the truth. I made a solemn vow to never break your heart, and I’ve kept it. That woman was just trying to get between us.
(A)Well, you can have her!
(L)I don’t want her, I want you, Ash, I’ve always wanted you and I’ve never stopped. I will always only want you and that’s the truth.
(A)...Liar!
(L)Ash, please.
Ashley uses her free arm to lunge forward, attempting to shake off Larry's grasp. She spins around to look back at Larry, her face contorting in a fierce scowl. With a swift, decisive motion, she draws her hand back and strikes Larry across the cheek, the slap echoing through the air like a crack of thunder. Larry's grip relaxes, and Ashley seizes the opportunity to break free, dashing towards her house with a desperate urgency. She flings open the door, slams it shut behind her and leans against it. Her back slides down the wooden panel as she crumples to the floor, surrendering to her tears as she sobs in her hands. Meanwhile, Larry stands frozen, his chest heaving, his cheek stinging from the slap, his mind racing in stunned bewilderment. Slowly, he raises his hand, his fingers brushing against the tender skin where Ashley's palm had connected. After a moment, Larry turns and trudges back to the pub, his footsteps heavy with despair. As he arrives, pushes open the door, his eyes scanning the room with a defeated gaze, before making his way back to the table where Barth and Gordo are still seated, their faces etched with concern. Larry collapses into his seat, his eyes slowly rising to meet the other goblin's worried stares, his expression a mask of anguish and shock. Barth's voice breaks the silence, his words laced with empathy and curiosity.
(B)Did you catch up with her?
(L)Yeah, I did.
(G)I assume it didn't go well.
(L)No…it didn’t…I’ve lost my flame, you guys, she’s gone, I lost her.
(B)I’m so sorry, Larry, we can try to talk to her.
(L)I tried talking to her, but she didn’t want to hear any of it. You were right, Gordo, I should’ve stopped Rachel by force the first time. I’m such an idiot.
(G)Give it a day or so, maybe she’ll come back and listen to what you have to say.
(L)No, I’m never going to see her again, Gordo, she wants nothing to do with me. It’s been just a few minutes and I’m already losing myself.
(B)Hey, don’t you dare do anything stupid, you hear me? I’ll kick your ass.
(G)We’re here for you, buddy. We’ll talk to her if we have to. Just give it a day. Like I said, it’ll be okay.
(L)This is all my fault. We were just about to move in together and now I won’t be able to ask her to be my wife. She’s the only woman I’ve ever wanted. I don’t want anyone else.
(B)We know, Larry, it’s probably best that you go home and sleep on it.
(L)No, I need a drink.
(G)Don’t drink yourself to death, Larry.
(L)It’ll be the only way I can sleep.
(B)Alright, but one drink, I’m monitoring you and Gordo and I will sleep at your place to make sure you don’t do anything stupid.
(L)Fine, I’m just lost. That woman is everything to me. I feel as if I’m in a nightmare. I don’t want this to be real.
(G)We understand it’s going to be okay. I’m sure she’ll just need some time to think.
(B)Was she crying?
(L)Yeah, I saw the pain in her eyes, the same pain I used to see when she got her heart broken. Only this time, it was me. I broke her heart, or so she thinks.
(G)It was a misunderstanding. You didn’t do anything wrong.
(L)I should’ve stopped Rachel sooner despite her threat
(B)Just relax, I’ll be right back with a drink for you.
(L)Thanks, pal, I need it right now. Ash is the reason I stopped drinking so much. I know it’s no excuse, but I just don’t know what I’m going to do without her.
(B)Hey, don’t give up just yet. I’m sure she’s just hurt by what Rachel did, and it brought back some painful memories. If I have to give you the same lecture we gave Merig, I will. That woman loves you and I don’t think she meant what she said.
(L)The funny thing is her ex, Ryan, slept with another woman with red hair and she found out about it when she went to see him at his home.
(G)That’s probably why she reacted the way she did. Rachel has a similar hair color to Ash, and it probably brought back that memory.
(B)It does seem to add up. But just ease your mind and don’t think about it too much. I’ll be right back with your drink. Maybe it’ll calm you down.
(L)Thanks, Barth, if it wasn’t for you two being here, I might be spiraling worse than I am right now.
(B)That’s what we’re here for. Just sit tight. Your old pal Barth has got you covered.
(L)[sigh] Alright, everything will be okay, I can tough this out.
(B)That’s that spirit. I’ll be right back.
Barth rises from his chair and makes his way to the bar, determined to fetch Larry a strong drink to help him cope with the recent turmoil. That evening, Barth and Gordo accompany Larry back to his place, staying the night to ensure he feels safe and doesn’t harm himself. Barth settles into the guest room while Gordo curls up on the sofa downstairs. In the quiet of his bedroom, Larry lies awake, a solitary tear escaping as he reflects on his thoughts. Meanwhile, Ashley is at her own home, also wide awake, clutching a pillow tightly as memories of her past pain flood her mind, tears glistening in her eyes. Eventually, both of them surrender to the embrace of sleep, bringing the chaotic day to a close.
