MONSTERS GAMBLE
Ep 1: Awakening

Ep 1: Awakening

A young black teen is lying on a wall with the wall completely crushed behind him as he's bleeding from the head.

He’s wearing an oversized dark blue hoodie, red shoes with white laces, black pants, and his left hand is covered with a fingerless glove.

"W-what?". He begins to open his eyes, revealing them to be a color of red-ish brown. He looks forward to seeing a line of walls destroyed with a giant hole. Almost as if someone crashed into them.

He struggles at first, then picks himself up from the ground.

His hair is revealed to be quite tall and spiky on the top with a hard fade on the side.

"W-where am I?" He looks around to further identify his environment.

"Where is everyone?" The place he’s woken up in is an office workspace. He starts to explore the office space. It’s empty. The whole place is a mess, desks and black office chairs are scattered all over the room, the walls seem to be cracking, and not a single person is around. Why is that?

"Ok, I’ve woken up in…what looks like to be a building?…and I guess….” He looks down at the line of destroyed walls again.

“I did that…? What happened? I remember…being on a street?” He has a faint memory of standing on a street. A woman stands before him. The woman is wearing pink pants, a blue shirt, and light blue overalls, but her face is blurred. Why is that?

“[REDACTED], come on! Before they close!” The woman speaks, her voice sounding quiet but very high pitched, then she suddenly disappears.

“Who…was that?” He scratches the back of his head and the spot he scratches is wet and has a faint smell of metal. He takes hand off of his head and looks at it. It’s covered in a red recently dried up liquid.

“Is that blood? What the fuck happened to me?”

He walks up to a broken window and sees a view of a street. Cars are crushed, there’s cracks all over the ground, and the buildings are either crumbled or in pieces all over the place.

“Well, I guess that answers my question. Looks like the world went to shit. But how come I’m still alive?”

He steps back from the broken window to search the office for…anything, frankly. There’s nothing worth mentioning. Other than a bunch of empty desks, chairs, and…a pack of condoms? Gross…

“Welp, it’s not like searching this shithole is gonna give me any answers so…” He turns around to see the door of the office space. The door is rusty and there’s a hole where the doorknob should be. He lightly pushes the door and the door comes crashing down, making a loud thud.

A splatter of the colour purple on the wall above him sinks into the wall.

“Whoops.” He walks out of the office space and leans against a stairwell. The stairs are dusty and full of rust everywhere. And, there’s a strange smell all over the stairwell. Almost like the smell of a dead rat or something. He backs away from the stairwell after being immediately overwhelmed by the horrid smell.

“What is that? Did someone die on this stairwell?” He continues to back away into the room but stops to see the number 19 on the left hand side of the wall next to the entrance to the office space.

"19th floor. I’ve got a long way down, huh?” He notices a trash can on his right side next to the entrance. The trash can contains a golf club with the tip having a red dried liquid. "This might come in handy…kind of a weird place to put a golf club but…oh who am I kidding, that’s probably the least of my worries."

He looks up and down the flight of stairs. The railings of the stairs are slowly decaying, and the paint of the walls begins to tear, with the horrid smell somehow smelling even more horrid.

"Better to get a bird's eye view from the top." He walks out, up the stairs. The smell somehow gets worse with each step towards the top of the building.

“Seriously…was the smell here before or after I woke up?” Suddenly, as he continues to walk up he touches something with his right foot. It feels squishy but also kind of solid. He looks down to see the top of a scalp. It’s the top half of an old man. Its skin is grey, the eyes are dilated and colorless, the hair is long and white from the sides of its scalp, but not a single strand of hair is on the top of the scalp.

“That explains the smell. What could have done this?” He stays still at first, then crouches down to the severed top half.

“I heard something like corpses can tell the story of how a life ended but…” He stares ominously into the severed top half. his stare seems to intensify, then he has a vision of a creature slicing a woman with its wings.

“Hell knows if anyone can figure out how this poor guy died. But….” He notices a trail of dried blood coming from the severed head, leading further up the stairs.

“That’s curious.” He continues to head up the stairs, following the trail of dried blood.

“Weird…that was a severed…what’s the name again, head? Yeah, a head, or at least what was left of it…and what was that thought I just had?” He continues to follow the trail of dried blood until coming to a stop on the 23rd floor to see the blood coming from the rest of the body of the old man. The body is bare naked, Blood is spitting out of his throat as the blood comes down his tongue and leaks between its rotten teeth, and drips into a small puddle over the dried blood, and flies are all over its body.

"Fucking hell…what kind of madman did this? Forget about the head, how long has this been here?”

He pokes the old man with his golf club. There’s no reaction…who would’ve guessed?

"Is this what happened to everybody? No, that wouldn’t make sense. This staircase would be full of bodies, no? I had a feeling the world went to shit but not this bad of a shit…"

He continues to stare at the body in awe.

“Weird…shouldn’t I be feeling…what’s the word? I don’t know why, but…why am I so…what’s the word? Fascinated? Yeah, fascinated” He continues to stare at it in awe then shakes his head back and forth.

“God damn, did I hit my head that hard? Or…oh god, was I a sadist in my past life?! Well…considering these clothes that make me look like a hobo, probably not.” He slowly walks around the corner to continue to the top of the building but turns back to look at the old man’s long dead corpse.

"Uhm, god bless you or…who am I kidding, he would’ve helped you a long time ago."

He continues to the top of the building one final time.

The splatter of purple returns and slips itself into the old man’s corpse through its open throat. Nothing happens at first, then his skin turns purple and his right hand starts to twitch.

He finally arrives at the top of the building, floor 25.

“Floor 25, huh? Damn, I was thrown up pretty high. Okay world, what’s your current state? Surely it can’t be that bad, right?” As he reaches for the door knob, he suddenly has a massive migraine. His head hurts so bad he can feel the blood coursing through his veins.

“AAAAGHH!! WHAT IS THIS?!” His pain is so insufferable, he feels it course throughout his entire body and faints from the amount of excruciating pain.

He feels himself lying down on a dark floor. His mind is awake but his body won’t move an inch.

“W-what happened? Where am I?” He attempts to look around but sees nothing but pure pitch black darkness.

??: "n..."

"W-what?"

The voice is faint at first, then continues to echo louder and louder.

??: "n-...N-....N-!"

“Hello? Who’s there? It sounds so familiar…”

He darts his eyes straight to see a figure crouching over his body. The figure has spiky white hair, red pupils and black around the eyes, decaying wings that spread across his shoulders, and his body being covered in pitch black with a bright red outline.

The figure slowly shows his unsettling smile, with his sharp teeth.

“Wake up” The figure said, his voice sounding dry but slightly higher pitched.

He gasps for air then picks himself up from the ground and stands before the door to the roof. He grasps his forehead tightly.

"What was that? Who was that voice? Who was that…thing?”

He recalls the voice.

??: n-...N-...N-!.."

"N...my name is...N?"

N: (The fuck was that voice...was it someone I knew? How come I can't remember anything else? More and more questions keep stacking up, and nobody’s around for an answer.)

*Brackets mean the character is talking to themselves*

N slowly opens the door to see the roof and a view of the outskirts of the city. It’s a civil twilight. The sun is slowly preparing to set, as the sky turns to a bright orange.

N: “Huh, doesn't look like a…bad…day?” N walks towards the edge of the building to the outskirts of the city. The city is in shambles. Buildings are in pieces and scattered everywhere, smoke is coming out of buildings still somewhat intact, there’s many corpses, either decayed or nothing but bones, scattered everywhere, it’s visible from N’s building, cars are either crashed into something or crushed until they turn flat, and there’s pieces of ashes floating everywhere. The city is nothing more than an abandoned wasteland compared to what it was before.

N: "Holy shit…what went down while I was out? How come I’m the only one who survived? Is there anybody else out there?”

N walks up to the edge of the building and sits on the edge.

N: “Honestly, this couldn’t be any worse. I woke up, don't know who the fuck I am, and now I'm in the middle of…what looks like to the end of the world.”

He sits back and looks up to the orange sky full of floating pieces of ash.

N: “I mean, if I’m the only person left on this planet, and clearly nothing’s left for me…there’s not really much of a purpose to continue, is there? I might as well end it all right here. This fucking sucks though, I just had to wake up at the “perfect” time. Maybe if I?”

N looks down at the edge of the tall building and sees three spots of splattered blood on the sidewalk.

N: Well…looks like I wasn’t the first to have the same idea. But I think I’ll prefer something less…painless."

N picks himself up and looks at his golf club.

N: "I could…but I wanna die painlessly, not with idiocy."

He approaches the edge of the building again and looks out into the distance.

N: "Fuck..."

He stares at the view for a while until a loud “GRREEEEEE” is heard from the entrance of the roof.

N: "What the fuck?"

N slowly approaches the entrance and prepares to swing his golf club.

N: "That better be some fucking rat.”

The entrance is silent. Then, a creature comes out of the entrance. The creature is missing the top half of its head, its skin is a dark purple while its forearms are large and pulsing a brighter shade of purple, its legs are thin but its feet also pulses a brighter shade of purple, and it's back has several dark purple crystals pulsing out of its back.

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

The creature lets out a loud ‘GREEEEEE’ and runs over to N.

N: "THE FUCK?!"

He swings his golf club at the creature, but the creature ducks under his swing then sinks into the floor.

N looks around in confusion about where the monster has gone.

N: “Where the fuck?! How did it-”

Suddenly, the creature comes back from the ground and stretches its right arm to trip N by his legs.

N: "SHIT!"

The monster ends up on top of N but N blocks it with his golf club. The monster screams at N as it slowly continues to get closer and closer to his face. Purple blood drips on N’s face, but the blood starts to let out steam and burn his face, causing him to scream in pain. He kicks the monster away, sending it flying but the monster sinks back into the floor of the roof and approaches N like a shark in the water.

N wipes the burning blood off his face and prepares to swing downward.

N: “I seriously can’t catch a break, can I?!”

The creature raises itself slightly out of the floor and N SLAMS the golf club into the floor, causing the creature to sink into the ground again. The roof goes silent.

N: “Huff…Huff…is it…gone?”

The creature jumps right from under N and UPPERCUTS him right up the jaw. He levitates for just a moment, and in that moment, the creature PUNCHES N in the stomach. He coughs out blood in response and is sent flying until he hits the edge of the building.

He picks himself up from the floor and stands before the creature as the creature slowly approaches N.

N: “Look, I don’t know what the fuck you are, and I don’t even know who I am, But what I do know is that I just want to die quick and painless death, but it looks like life still has it out for me…”

The creature lets out a loud ‘GREEEEEE’ and charges towards N once again.

His blood starts to boil, causing his skin to turn red, his eyes start to pulse, his veins start to pierce his skin, and his entire body gives off this strange aura. The aura forms into some kind of creature, with its long spreading wings, horns curving upwards, and its teeth are sharp with its edges oozing with bright red blood.

The creature suddenly stops in its tracks and stands in awe of the aura, almost as if it has had this feeling before. It slowly starts to back away from N, step by step but N only continues to approach the creature.

N: "I just wanna be at peace. And if I have to dig my way out to do that then…”

The ground under N starts to crack with each step he takes.

N: “FUCKING COME AT ME YOU UGLY SHIT!!” N dashes toward the creature, causing the cracking floor he was standing on to sink. He winds up and swings his golf club at the creature. The creature can easily dodge this reckless attack, but it’s too instilled with fear to even move an inch.

N SMACKS the creature right on the stomach with his golf club. The golf club snaps in half and the creature is sent flying until it hits its back on the wall of the entrance to the roof.

The creature sits for a moment then raises its head to see N’s aura increase even larger in size. It’s almost as if the creature formed from the aura is staring right back at the headless creature.

The headless creature starts to hyperventilate but the blood from the corpse it’s possessing squirts out blood, causing it to choke on its own blood. It slowly starts to stand back up and N gives an ominous stare back at it.

N: “Still standing, huh? Come on, I could do this all day.”

The creature steps forward but only feels the aura surrounding it. The aura spins around the creature almost as if it’s stuck in a typhoon. The creature tries to slash away at the aura but it comes to no effect. The aura suddenly opens to reveal a gigantic winged beast. The beast bows its head to stare at the headless creature. The creature created from the aura eyes is a bright red color, with the pupil being thin and slender. The headless creature continues to choke on the corpse’ blood from hyperventilating, then lets out a loud ‘GREEEEEE’ in fear and runs to the left, towards the edge of the roof.

N: “What the?”

The creature runs off of the roof of the building and falls to its death. It’s faint, but a ‘SPLAT’ is heard.

N approaches the edge of the building the creature ran off from and looks down to the now splattered body of the headless creature.

N: “Fucking hell…well, that explains what happened to everybody. How many of these things are there? Do they look like this thing or could there be variants…?”

He walks away from the edge and looks back onto the view of the city. He drops the now snapped in half golf club.

N: “That was fun while it lasted…sigh…so I’m stuck in a city, full of…whatever that fucking thing was, and now I’m unarmed. Now what?.”

N raises his head to see the pieces of floating ash in the sky. A couple of thoughts pass through him. The severed head, the rest of the body, the weird creature that killed itself, (now that I think about it, that thing had no head too, did the old man turn into that thing? Maybe he killed himself before he could turn? No point looking for answers, at this point.)

N: “Okay, apocalypse. I’ll play your game. If I can’t find something now, maybe there’s an option out there. I’ll keep living until I can find a painless death.”

He walks over and looks back down on the dead creature again.

N: “I would pray…but, clearly this proves god isn’t so real now, is he?”

He approaches the entrance of the roof and looks back to the view of the city one last time, and walks back down the stairs. He continues to go down the building, floor by floor.

N: “Now, what options are there even left? I could jump…but I would have to be precise with how I don’t stick the landing. I could cut…but I’d probably die of patience before I die of blood loss…wow, this is extremely depressing to talk to myself about…”

He continues to walk down the building until reaching the 7th floor. The room on the 7th floor has a door and windows that both have glass frames. The horrid smell from earlier returns, but much more rancid than when he was up on the 19th floor.

N: “Fucking hell, it’s that smell again! Seriously what is that-”

N looks over to see 3 piles of corpses all divided to form a triangle formation.

N: “ Okay, That explains the actual smell.”

He slowly approaches to close the door to stop the spread of the smell. But suddenly, several growls can be heard from the pile of corpses. A loud growl is heard from the pile of corpses.

N: “Hello? Is somebody still alive in there? (Please tell me I’m not going crazy…)”

From each pile of corpses comes out a dog. The dog’s bodies are nothing but bone, with bright red glowing eyes, and based on the skeletal build, they almost look like the breed of a Dobermann.

The 3 dogs slowly approach N and let out a low snarl.

N: “Okay…and that explains what happened to the people of this building…(Now, I’m just gonna slowly close the door.)”

N slowly grabs the door knob of the see-through door and slowly closes it shut, as it makes a slight creak.

The dogs casually turn back to eat on the nearby body sticking out of their own individual pile of corpses.

N: “Weird, shouldn’t they be chasing me or something?” He tries to wave at the dogs from the other side of the window.

N: “They can’t see me. Maybe this is a one sided window? Why would you need that at a workplace though…god damn it, I’m asking too many questions. I gotta get the fuck out of here.”

N runs down the last 6 floors until finally entering the lobby of the building. The entrance is made of sliding doors, a now ripped up carpet in the middle of the lobby, walls that are painted a bright blue color, but the color can’t cover the amount of cracks across the walls, there’s benches painted brown on opposite sides of the lobby, but they both seem to be split in half, and the doors to both elevators of the lobby have a giant a giant bump carved into them both, almost as if something punched it.

N: “This building keeps looking more and more fucked up…”

N slowly approaches the entrance until a dead corpse comes out of the ceiling and hangs for a chord. N is unaffected from the body’s appearance.

N: “Honestly, with what I’ve seen so far, I’m not even gonna question how you got there.”

He moves the hanging body out of the way, causing the hanging body to slowly swing back and forth.

N pushes the spinning door and reaches the outside of the building. There’s cars destroyed everywhere, pieces of ash floating everywhere, the ground is crushed with certain pieces sticking out like stalagmites, all the buildings are– either destroyed or completely abandoned, and the floating pieces of ashes appear again but in even bigger quantities.

N: “Yeah…I think I’m just gonna stay inside for now…”

He slowly walks back into the building. Suddenly, someone appears atop a nearby building and watches N enter back into the building through their binoculars.

N: “I don’t think going outside is exactly the safest decision right now…” He turns to see an overview of the lobby.

N: “It’s not like this is any better, but it’ll do…” N looks around to search for anything of use but finds nothing but dust bunnies. He looks at the hanging body, as it swings back and forth.

N: “You wouldn’t mind if I used that, would you? Fuck, what am I doing?”

He sits on the ripped apart and looks down at the floor.

N: “I just had to be the lucky one…”

N tears a piece of the ripped up carpet and throws it in front of him. He looks back at the spot he tore the carpet off of to see a wooden plank. Suddenly, N looks over to see a nearby breaker on the right wall of the lobby.

N: “Hmmm…” He takes off the breaker off the wall, to reveal a piece of the wall full of loose wires. Then, he moves the ripped up carpet to reveal the floor made of wooden planks. He struggles at first, then successfully removes a piece of the plank and places it near the loose wires from where the breaker used to be, then grabs 2 loose wires and starts rubbing them together, causing them to spit light sparks onto the plank.

N: “Come on…come on!” After a few sparks land on the plank, the plank ignites into a small flame.

N: “YES!” He throws the flaming plank onto the carpet, making the fire slowly start to spread.

N: “This is the dumbest thing I could be doing…but then again, it’s the apocalypse. This is probably the best thing I could be doing….” He watches the fire slowly start to spread, then holds his hand out to it.

N: “Apparently if you burn long enough, your nerves will burn too, and assuming what I can remember is correct, this is just the painless death I need..” He hovers his right hand over the fire, making just the very tip of the flames slap his hand.

N: “Weird, it doesn’t hurt…doesn’t this part usually happen after you’re on fire?” Suddenly, N feels something strange placed on the back of his head. Almost like it’s a metal cylinder.

“You wanna do this the easy way or the hard way?” The mysterious voice behind N’s head, said. N slowly picks himself up from the ground, and casually turns around to see a man wearing a hoodie with a pistol at point blank range. The hooded man jumps in fear while shakingly holding the pistol.

“WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU?!”

N: “What?”

“Oh god, don’t tell me they can shapeshift into looking like one of us?” The hooded man tightens his grip around the pistol and holds it directly at N’s forehead. “DON’T TRY ANY FUNNY STUFF, GOT IT?!”

N: “Look man, I just got here, and if what I’m assuming is true, we might just be the last 2 people left on the planet so maybe we could—”

N slowly approaches the hooded man armed with the pistol but:

“STAY AWAY FROM ME, FREAK!!”

N: “Wow, that hurt. What, you’ve never seen a…a…fuck, what’s the word again?”

“What, a human? No human that I’ve seen has half of their face missing!”

N: “What?” N slowly raises his right hand, and touches the right side of his face. It feels solid, not soft like skin, but solid like bone. He follows the solid texture down to his teeth, the solid texture continues and never changes, not even the fleshy texture from where the gums should be. Finally, He follows the solid texture up to his right cheek, right temple, and turns into his right eye, the solid texture still remains. He tries to touch his right eye, it’s hollow, and feels spacious

N: “Huh, that’s weird…where did my skin go? Now that I think about it, I have an eyehole but no eye. And yet, I can see out of it just fine. Weird…”

(The hell is up with this guy? NO! I can’t let my guard down! Not after that day…)

“Look, whether you’re one of those things or not, It’s every person for themselves and frankly, I can’t take any risks.”

N raises his hands in response.

N: “Woah okay, look, maybe we can come to some kind of agreement? Don’t know if you’ve noticed but I was trying to light myself with that fire over there–

N looks over to see the fire now completely extinguished.

“N: “Wow, nothing goes my way ... .Okay, I’ll be honest, I want to die, but on my own terms. And, I’d rather not have the embarrassment of someone else doing it for me so…maybe we don’t resort to what looks like you trying to rob me? Besides, are you really trying to rob somebody during the apocalypse? Look around! Why even put in the effort if pretty much everything and everyone is gone?”

“Why? I had a family…a successful career, A bright future, and the next thing I know, a giant spider woman falls from the sky and crushes them all before I can ever reach my front door. I had my whole future ahead of me and…some weird portal in the sky came in and these…I don’t know…animals? Started flying in and killing everyone. Look, it may not be much right now, but maybe someday all of this can go back to normal. If anything, dying is a last resort.

N: (Family? Portal? Career? Spider woman? What’s this guy rambling on about?)

“Look, lemme just get straight to the point. I saw you walking around the building with these.” The hooded man shows his binoculars stored within his hoodie.

“All I’m asking is whether or not you’ve found anything of value. Something like water? Food? Anything will do.”

N: “Well, if I had anything don’t you think I–” N suddenly has an idea.

“N: “Well…I mean there was this one room I found. It had piles and piles of food. I didn’t really question it and I came down here just to check if anything else was around here, and hence here I am now.”

The hooded man has a sign of suspicion. “That was quite the switch up. How am I supposed to know if you’re not lying?”

N: “Look at me, does it look like I'm lying.” The hooded man tries to inspect N for any sign of lying. His eyes have a shimmer of light in them, they almost seem lifeless. His hands, raised in the air, don’t move an inch, and his skin appears dry, not a single stream of sweat or liquid in sight. The hooded man ends up believing N and slightly lowers his guard…for now.

“Okay, but you’re leading the way. Where’s this supposed ‘supply’?”

N: “7th floor. Just up these stairs.” N walks over to the stairs and heads up as the hooded man follows, pistol pointed to N’s back.

They continue to head up the stairs floor by floor.

(This sounds too good to be true…but then again, I’ll take anything at this point. OH GOD WHAT IS THAT SMELL?!)

N and the hooded man reach the 7th floor. The smell returns, as they slowly approach the entrance to the room.

“What the hell is that smell?!”

N: (Sorry man, nothing personal but…well, I guess it is a little personal.)

N successfully turns around and grabs the hooked man’s wrist with a tight grip, causing him to drop the gun to the floor. N’s grip on the hooded man’s wrist is so tight, it almost feels like his hand could snap off at any moment.

(WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS STRENGTH?!) With all of his strength, N throws the hooded man into the room with the one sided window, then closes the door. notices a little lock on the door knob and turns it sideways, locking the door.

The hooded man immediately stands up and runs to the door. His running causes his hood to slide off, revealing his face to have brown eyes, his skin is that of a slight beige, his hair being a buzz cut with a hard fade, and his right eye is marked with a large scratch, revealing the flesh from the base of his forehead down his right cheek.

The hooded man tries to open the door but the door knob won’t move an inch from N’s intense grip.

N: (Wow, this is working extremely well. Is this guy that weak? Wait...what am I saying?)

The hooded man can’t see N from his side, so he bangs the window with his right clenched fist.

“YOU SON OF A BITCH, LET ME OUT!!)

N: “Hey, man. You shouldn’t have trusted the stranger! Besides, you did try to rob me, no?” N’s voice is faint from the width of the window

“You motherfu–” The hooded man barfs a little from the never ending smell. He turns to see the triplet piles of bodies.

“What the fuck are those?!” The hooded man continues to bang on the window.

“HEY! WHAT THE FUCK IS IN HERE?!”

N: “It’s like I said. That’s your ‘supply’! Piles and piles of it!”

“You sick fuck…what did you do to these people?!”

N: “Oh, that wasn’t me…”

Suddenly, from the hooded man’s back, comes out a muffle of a loud ‘ARRRR’ from the triplet of bodies.

“W-what?”

The hooded man slowly turns around, letting go of the door knob. The three skeletal dogs slowly walk out of each of their own piles. They slowly creep over to the hooded man.

“N-no…stay away!” The hooded man turns around to bang on the window again.

“HEY! COME ON, MAN! YOU CAN’T DO THIS TO ME!!” N doesn’t respond from the other side. The hooded man tries to open the door knob but it continues to not move an inch.

N: “No hard feeling man, but this is the current state of the world.”

“WHAT?! WHAT DOES THAT EVEN–” The ‘ARRR’ noise returns, but even louder. The hooded man turns around one final time to see all three dogs now surrounding him.

“Ha…haha…” The hooded man drops to the floor and looks up to the ceiling.

“Melinda…I’ll see you soon…”

The three dogs jump at the hooded man. All that’s heard is the sound of skin tearing, bones snapping, flesh gritting, and teeth chewing.

N feels a streaming fluid touch his shoes. He looks down to see a stream of blood flow through the door. He backs up in response.

N: “Holy shit, he’s dead…I did that just to distract him and…he’s dead.” N feels his right hand extensively twitch. He raises it to give it a look. Suddenly there’s a quick flash of that same hand holding a piece of flesh, surrounded by fire.

N: “Was that me? Fuck, what was I before all of this?” He notices the pistol now wet from the small puddle of blood and picks it up, as the blood drips down the muzzle of the pistol.

He walks back down the stairs to the lobby as he leaves a red footprint every step on the way.

N: “I just killed that guy. But he tried to rob me. But he had a family and maybe even kids and I took it away like that. And this feeling…my heart is pumping and I can feel the adrenaline run down my body. Dear god, was I really a sadist before all of this?” N reaches the lobby and slowly walks out to the outside, the red footprints continue.

N looks up to the sky, as it slowly starts to turn a light blue from the sun completing its set. He lifts the pistol to his chin.

N: “If there really is a god, I’m ready.” N pulls the trigger and…nothing happened.

N: “What?” He shakes the pistol until the magazine pops out, revealing it to have zero bullets.

N: “Oh…I killed him off of a bluff? Well…” N throws the gun away.

N: “Let's see what you have to throw at me, apocalypse.”

N walks down the street, ready to live for his death.
