Day 1.6 Consequences

Day 1.6 Consequences

“I’m sorry, Master, but the surgeries are not available yet. You might suffer from backlash because you just woke up from a long sleep. That was why there was a countdown, so as to let all of your bodies and mind settle.”

So it seems that I will have to wait a month before getting the treatment. Oh well, it can wait. It’s not like I had other plans. I bought the teleporter and installed it in what I dubbed, the living room. I had installed it to have room for my stuff. But I couldn’t leave. It seems like you have to have a destination before you can teleport. I guess you can get the coordinates of your friends’ locations. Have a party. Or have sex, whatever.

I saw on the catalogue a memory recorder, or Inner Narrator. It would allow me to record my experiences and not have to worry about leaving details out. I don’t quite understand how it all works, but who cares? It will save me time from sitting at a computer and trying to type from memory. Because my memory sucks. Although I will edit it. Don't want everything known.

I checked the forums and noticed there was now a “Wanted” thread. It was created by the moderators! So they place people who PKed on the Wanted list and actually place a bounty on their head! What?! Bounty Hunter sounds like a difficult job. A lot of trickery. I checked my profile and realized I had several friend requests. Apparently, it was the two girls. Those were actually their gamer tags…wow…

Jason along with some other guy, probably the lackey, also sent me friend requests. Not to mention Klepto accepted my friend request.

Accepted them all.

Another ding appeared from the girls who are either friends, dating, or sisters. Whichever they are, they needed my help. It looked like they were going to fix the damage we made with the forest fire. It caused the animals nearby to search elsewhere for food, thereby disturbing the natural ecosystem.

Oops again.

I logged back in and saw the girls at the post board like last time. After exchanging pleasantries, we walked back into the forest. Although they did seem a bit jittery. The fire had disrupted the internal clocks of the animals as even nocturnal creatures were seen attacking other animals. So we set to work slaughtering animals to fix a problem we created.

You know, I think my mentality is strange. Must be my Game Mode. I get unnaturally competitive and anger easily. I get involved with my games. Like I said earlier, I like to imagine myself performing these actions.

I was mostly mowing down enemies as Dirty picked off any that got behind me and Potter took the ones with physical resistance. Weren’t these animals too weak? Or were we too strong? Well, since this game doesn’t have levels, I don’t know how the Growths are involved. Is it after every kill? Is it as I grow older? I’m not entirely sure, but I think there is a Stat List that shows the numerical value of our avatar’s Stats. We just can’t see it yet. The ID we received when we first came here had a place to list Skills and Spells, and on the back showed the current quest. Going to the post board will allow you to change it. But the ID might show Stats eventually.

We must have been fighting for a while, since we couldn’t find any more creatures. On our way back, night began to fall on our first day…wait, what? It’s only been a day?! Then that must mean we all woke up 9 hours before dawn. I had spent my first day doing quite a bit, huh. As we reached town, we saw lights flickering and shouts from the buildings.

We hurried over to find that there was fire burning the buildings! Everyone worked together to put the flames out, but apparently, some people were injured. Was it other players?

Well, no.

The village chief was spouting something about a flame boar or something. He was shouting to the high heavens about Demonic Beasts returning to the lands. We three looked at each other and decided to split up and ask different questions.

Dirty would ask about the boar, Potter would ask about Demonic Beasts, and I would ask about the previous time this had happened. We set off after selling our stuff. We pretty much netted another Silver each. $100 isn’t so bad.

I went to the bar, as the girls weren’t even 19 yet. I had to spend a good 30 Bronze this time, as many guys were begging for a drink. The older men were complaining about how last time, the Human race was almost annihilated. What had happened was that the Demon country, next door to ours, had tested and experimented upon animals using mana. Damn.

The creatures that were created got out and populated the surrounding area making it hard to travel. The Demons were blamed and soon war happened. Some Demons had shooed the Beasts in our direction, leveling small villages. This didn’t affect the contract with the Gods, since it was the wild Beasts that were doing it.

It seems the Demons and Humans were not the type to get along. But I had enough of the racist remarks.

“Aren’t there quite a lot of pretty female Demons?” I asked, knowing full well these guys were one cup away from going night night.

They all stared at me and I almost felt that I had made a mistake. Until one old man with a wooden leg got up and said to me,

“Don’t let the ladies around here hear you, they get mighty upset about that. Of course them female Demons are attractive. Some don’t have a male in their race. So where do you think they go to procreate? Sometimes we take a little, ‘fishing vacation’. If you speak a word of this to the women, we’ll gut you and hang your corpse over the front gate.”

“Yessir!” I may have saluted. I can’t say I was disgusted, just to be honest. But, if some of the Demon races rely on humans to procreate, why go to war? Some of these things don’t add up…Maybe I just don’t have all the info. So I asked.

“Why do the Humans and Demons not get along?”

“You brat. All the races are against each other.”

“But I thought with the Covenant,”

“No. That contract with the Gods was to stop needless slaughter. We still fight it out in the arena to determine the winner.”

“So why send Beasts?”

“Because…they’re…I don’t actually know. What else could it be?”

“Well, I and someone else accidently set fire to the forest trying to hunt some caterpillars…”

“That fire might have attracted the flame boar, but it wouldn’t have attacked the village without a reason.”

“We also might have killed the animals running around causing trouble.”

“Which would mean that the boar would lose its source of food…”

Oops again and again…this is getting kind of tiresome.

“As an apology, we will reimburse the village, help get it back, and hunt the boar. I know we can’t personally heal the people involved, but if there is anything else, please let me know. And if you wish to punish us, punish me since I asked them to help me.”

“Whatever, brat. Just take care of the problem. Don’t worry about those people, stuff like that happens all the time. Can’t say their family would say the same.”

“Thank you.”

Looks like it’s time to hunt. I just hope we don’t end up fucking this place up even more.
