Magic has always been a part of human psyche, and its power to captivate and entrance people is undeniable. The idea of the impossible being possible, and the idea of being able to achieve the impossible with a snap of one’s fingers has always been a source of awe and wonder. Though the belief in magic has faded in recent times, it is still deeply embedded in our collective culture. From Harry Potter to Fairy Tales, magic still has a deep and lasting impact on our imaginations. Many stories have even used the fact that magic is no longer present as a basis that it never existed and was simply ruses and deceptions.
That which we can't explain with current science is typically how I view magic, but what if magic did truly exist in the past? What if long ago a sort of energy like mana or qi was present that humans and other living beings used to alter the world around them? Just that what was thought of an infinite source of power was finite and limited slowly killing off magical beings and leaving mages powerless and seemingly frauduent? If that were the case then magic would be a powerful and important part of our history that we may have overlooked. Who knows how much of the true potential of our world has been lost and forgotten? We could learn so much more if we could just open our minds to the possibility of magic and its potential.

As it stands, the mystical, mysterious and magical is often relegated to children’s stories, but what if we could explore and uncover its secrets? Though it can never be proven, it is fun to think of a world where a basic knowledge of magic could be used to make daily life easier, and that all the myths and legends that have been passed down through the ages could actually be true. It is an interesting thought exercise that speaks to the power of imagination and the potential of a world that could have been different. Even if it is only a dream, it still makes for a fascinating thought experiment.
