From the Ashes Part 1

From the Ashes Part 1

As Raphael opened his eyes once, he found himself once again in the white space. However, unlike before where he was alone in the beginning, he was next to the midnight wolf, who looked much smaller and calmer than before. Their eyes met and there was no response from either side, but there seems to be an underlying understanding as to why they were there together.

Raphael looked into the beautiful gems the wolf had for eyes as they seemed to reflect the etherealness the wolf harbored. And the wolf stared into the greenish-brown of the boys, that had no special characteristic to speak, unlike the endless hunger they displayed. So the wolf lowered his head as a form of submission to the adversary that had defeated it, believing they had passed onto the next life together.

Misreading the situation altogether because he was aware, Raphael breathed a breath of fresh air as he realized that he no longer had to fight the menacing beast. He placed his small hand over the wolf's head and began scratching him at the back of his ear as if he was familiar with the canine already. The wolf accepted the action with glee as he gave in to the pleasure of having one of his most sensitive areas being caressed. The wolf wagged his tail with full force as he could not be any happier to have unreachable itch be scratched.

A few moments continued on like that until Raphael realized the situation he was in. 'How the hell do I… we get out of here?' he asked himself as he looked back and forth from every direction.

'I don't know?' a voice not his own entered his thoughts and Raphael jumped back in surprise trying to find the source. He quickly jerked his head every which way until he thought of a weird thought that made him look towards the large being sitting in front of him. "You?" Raphael spoke aloud now trying to make sure he was imaging anything.

'Yes?' The voice echoed in his mind once more as the large wolf cutely tilted its head sideways. "You can talk?" Raphael became flustered at the idea of an animal talking but then realized that possibility of that happening was really high after including magic into the mix. 'I suppose I can.' the wolf answered university as if that had always been the case.

Raphael held his nose between two fingers and asked his ex-opponent a question. "Why did you attack the smiths?" Raphael asked as he crossed his arms.

'The who?' the wolf asked, wondering if that was some type of food he never hunted before. Then, Raphael realized his blunder and reiterated. "Those people like me." he pointed to his body to make the large wolf understand.

'Oh. The two-legs.' Raphael cocked an eyebrow at how the wolf described people in such a simple manner. "Yes."

'Well that is because two-legs always try to hunt me, so once I saw them I decided to attack first and make sure their annoying toys would not annoy me anymore.' Raphael flinched at the response and was flabbergasted that such a thing had occurred because the wolf thought the Smiths were hunters.

"Wolf. The smith… I mean those two legs were harmless. They were just simple farmers…" as Raphael was about to finish he felt a cold aura surrounding him. 'Lies. There is no such thing as 'harmless' as you put it.' The wolf bared its teeth in anger and mockery. 'Even the smallest of things are not harmless, once backed into a corner or given an opportunity, they would do everything to suppress it.'

"Really? Give me an example of that happening." Raphael scoffed at the wolf saying there was nothing as just being 'harmless.'

'You.' the wolf pointed forward with its snout. "Huh?" Raphael said, confused.
