Act II
--Prologue--
Void, time and date unknown
A small form was sitting at thin air. But the supposedly thin air could be perceived as a chair, or a block, or a log that supported its weight. As long as it’s not visible anyone could guess what it really was. The small form with indefinite shape could be anything or anyone. It could be a form of a human, a boy, a girl, an oldie. It could also take a form of an animal, an inanimate object, or if it just wanted, it could just retain its original small luminescent, gooey slimy form.
But a gooey slime just wouldn’t do. It knew that somebody’s going to visit. It needed to do whatever it takes to look presentable. So it took the form of a girl around 10 years of age. Just a perfect match for the sudden visitor. From an object to a living form, really quick.
There, at the void. She sat in her imaginary chair while staring at the very far distance no eyes could ever try to reach, while waiting for her visitor to arrive.
“Fu fu fu. It was about time you arrive here.” –She said as she felt a presence behind her.
“Jeez. It’s very hard to get here. Please don’t make things too hard for a beginner like me. Can’t you just have a normal place to hang out?”
“Hmmm? Is it really that hard? I just put away things here that I really don’t want to see and threw them there…”
“But those things you don’t like almost killed me.”
“Hahaha! Can’t your senior have just a little fun? Count it as a little display of authority to my silly junior who likes to poke his nose on to things he should not. As my junior, you should at least be able to do that much.”
The face of amusement that the faceless little girl entity sitting there was showing suddenly changed to a face of annoyance.
“Well whatever. You won’t be fooling anyone with those words, considering your current status.”
“Jeez, so unsupportive. Can’t you be a proper senior just for once?”
The two talked like they were two close colleagues. In face they really were.
The girl realized that she was not being hospitable. So she twirled her index finger like a magic wand out of a habit. Then suddenly a seemingly block form appeared at her left. That’s for the other entity to sit too. He did accept the offer, but he looked unsatisfied by the way the girl did it.
After sitting the other entity looked at the very far horizon the little girl was stating. Well he’s one of the very few who could.
The girl knew that the boy entity came to her to talk about something. But he seemed to have trouble taking the initiative so she took the lead.
“Now talk. How’s your current subject at the moment? I know you wouldn’t bother exhausting yourself just to get here if it wasn’t something important.”
“I came here to return to that statement you said to me a while ago. You’ve been poking into my stuff for quite a while now. Just leave me alone.”
“Why? I’m just interested, so I’m having just a little bit of fun. Oh but don’t misunderstand. I’m not bullying you or something. In fact, I’m trying to teach you something. I’m just helping out.”
“I know that I haven’t produced good results yet. But did you really need to do that? I don’t really like your way of flaunting your feats on me, like provoking me because I haven’t accomplished any notable feats yet.”
“No. What’s getting you so agitated? Look. What I’m having you understand is to follow the system. You should know that Earth is categorized as a ‘failed’ world. Why would you bother spending your resources on a world which the universe won’t have any profit with?”
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
“What I considered is even far from what you’re expecting. Your slow and steady progress is only because you’ve always been stick to the book.”
“And you’re always too serious about this. You’ll immediately burn yourself out.”
“Tch… Everything’s according to plan until you butted in again.”
“Sigh… Look…”
“You really like to make things hard for me. You think this will stop me. Well it won’t. Bring it on, I’ll play with this little game of yours.”
The little boy entity was just saying things without care. That’s just how he’s always been with her. He knew he didn’t have the upper hand on the discussion, neither did have any intentions to listen. He just wanted to deliver his thoughts across the little girl. That’s all that matters.
The two went quiet for a while due to the sudden rise in tension.
The little girl faced his direction as he seemingly looked forward staring at nothing after his rant.
“That’s not… Hmp, whatever. Suit yourself. That’s so just you. You haven’t really answered my question a while ago yet just so you know.”
The little boy twitched.
“That’s because… Ugh!! Really! To be honest, nothing’s happened for a long time already. Siiiiigh…”
“That’s a long sigh you’ve got there. Why did you choose him anyways?”
“…A gut feeling?”
All the little girl could do was a facepalm.
“I’ve been telling you to refrain from relying from those gut feeling of yours.”
“I know, but… He didn’t really accomplished anything while still alive at Mytherion, but I really think that there’s a deeper reason behind it. You see, I’ve been only offered with portfolios, and there really was nothing written there.”
“Isn’t it just because there really was nothing worth mentioning? Hahaha, are you sure you really haven’t run out of luck?”
“You knew this would happen. And that’s why you sent Yuusha Ingretta to Earth. No more questons asked.”
“Hmmmm. There might really be something. But that’s just a coincidence. It just happened that I saw her portfolio on my target list, which by that time I recalled you sending same Mytherion subject to Earth.”
“But I really have to know why you altered her timeline the last second and sent her a generation before Fredericus’ arrival?”
“Teehee~~ I messed up with the timeline.”
“Don’t give me that bullshit!”
They were both Gods so the little boy entity should know if the girl was telling the truth. That goes even without their faces showing and they were for that formless entities taking shape of what Earthlings call a boy and a girl. But that’s not the case. He sensed multiple instabilities within her that he couldn’t tell.
The form scratched his head in annoyance.
“If you’re not going to tell then fine.”
“Besides… A lot happened before I could send her to earth too.”
The little girl whispered but the volume was not really low for the other not to hear.
“What? Come again?”
“Nothing.. Oh Come on, believe me on this one. Won’t you trust your pretty senior?”
“No”
A wry smile seemed to come out from the little girl’s face.
“Well then… Okay… Then at least let me tell you that even though I’ve got accomplishments on my own, the privileges I have is not that far from yours. Just a tiny bit of margin. If you’re looking for someone who would ruin your plan by a hundred percent, you should bug those elders instead of me.”
But the little boy did not argue anymore. He abandoned his will to press the issue further on just like how he displayed the lack of responsibility from sending his current target to Earth.
“I guess you’ve used the conventional method. On your subject eh?”
What the girl said piqued the boy’s interest. She leaned herself towards the little boy; placed her face near his right ear; and continued to talk, now in a tempting tone.
“I have methods on my own. Those which could bypass the rules. If you say so then I’ll gladly teach you.”
“What do you mean by that?”
“Nooooo~~ Not telling… Fufufu.” The girl pulled away from him. “Well as a senior I really think I should advice you this. It is just stated that we couldn’t directly interact and interfere with your subject.”
“… So you’re saying you managed to steer Yuusha Ingretta’s second life on earth, huh?”
“Hmm nice deduction, but I won’t confirm anything. As I say, that’s just one of the privileges I have. You know when doing your job, you have to maximize your resources for optimal results. You’ve already done it, get a hint already…”
The last words from the little girl didn’t seem to reach the little boy. But actually he didn’t want to risk owing something from his pesky senior so he just acted like he lost interest and instead of prolonging the talks further, he looked onto the void and watched carefully and closely.
…
…
The silence went on for a long time before the little girl broke it and started talking again.
“Hey I’m charging you if you stay here for any longer than thirty Earth years’ worth of time.”
“I don’t care. I may look irresponsible enough but I’m really interested in this subject. Things should get more interesting from now on.”
“Now that you made contact with my precious subject?”
“Ugk!”
“You think I wouldn’t know?”
“Hey that’s cheating you know…”
“Privilege you know…”
“Quiet, it’s starting.”
“Yeah. How would things turn out now?”
The two continued their heated up discussion as they both stare to the nothingness of the void.
