Coming through, the crowd around us. Smiling at the patrolman, Madison said, “Marcus, how have you been?

With his slight smile turning into a full-blown grin, Marcus said. “If it isn’t Madison Hayward. How have you been? I’ve been fine just doing the same old stint.

Invading his space to hug him, pulling back.

The same smile still plastered on Madison’s face. She said, “I’ve been well, and that’s good to hear. It’s been what, at least a few months since I last saw you?”

As they separated, scratching his face awkwardly, looking thoughtful. He said, “I think the last time we saw each other. Was the autumn festival the previous year.”

Just like that, it was like the rest of us disappeared. Patrolman Marcus only had eyes for Madison. Must be that Hayward charm.

Batting her lashes at him, She said. “Oh yeah, that was fun. Anyway, what’s going on here. Have these two caused you trouble, Marcus?”

I could see the dawning realization, cross Marcus’s face. That he had forgotten entirely about the people around him. Coughing He said, “Oh, you know these two, Madison?”

Pointing at Alfred, Madison said, “Yes, I know them, this is Alfred Fowntain.” Then moving in my direction, She said, “This is Kyle Greenar, he’s currently. Being watched over by my parents.”

His eyes creased as he looked over Alfred. Inspecting him, as if he was a unique exhibit and Marcus didn’t look impressed. There was a different type of tension in the air. He didn’t even bother to look at me. I feel like I should be offended.

Turning his head, back towards the permits in his hand. Marcus said, “Well, it was nice seeing you again, Madison. But I’m currently working, so I don’t have time to talk.”

Well, this was awkward whatever charm had first caught Marcus’s attention, was broke. Now the stony-faced patrolman was back. I was so hoping, Madison was going to get us out of trouble.

Passing their permits back to the group from Ravens Fare. Marcus said, “I’ve put a warning on your permits. If you’re caught causing any more trouble. Expect to get fined and possible jail time. Now get going and quit being nuisances.”

Their faces as they huffed and stormed off were priceless. I felt a slight ripple across my senses. As my talent let me feel a bubble of mana surrounded us. Turning to us, wearing a stern look on his face. Handing us our permits, Marcus said, “Now for you guys, It was quite evident that you guys were on the receiving end of bad intentions. So I’ll let you go with only a verbal warning.”

What!? That’s not what I was expecting at all. Just as I was about to thank him in gratitude. I noticed the rune on his chest was glowing red. The same rune that operates as a lie detector. He’s lying! He must just want to look good in front of Madison. Which means our permits probably have a warning on them too. I guess you need to be a good actor to be a patrolman. I wish I were paying more attention when he was handling the permits. So I knew how the warnings were added.

Watching him walk away after giving Madison. What I can only now see as a slimy smile, I felt the bubble of mana surrounding us pop. Following Alfred’s lead, I worriedly put my permit in my spatial focus. I’m definitely going to have to mention this to them. But I’ll wait till we’re not so exposed to so many people.

Turning to Madison, with a frown, in a gruff tone. He said, “Maddy, you need to stop running off. This whole mess could have been avoided if I wasn’t busy trying to catch up to you.”

Looking down, Madison said, “I’m sorry, I just got too excited.”

Oh! Her face how can someone look that sad and repentant. With using mana or at least not any form my talents picking up. Taking a peek at Alfred’s face, to see his reaction, it was stone cold! Wait, there’s a slight twitch next to his eye. He must be trying not to react to Madison’s charm. I wish I could just reach into his head and see what he’s thinking right now. I wonder if he’s going to say something o just stand there.

Letting out a breath in defeat, Alfred said, “I know, that was just really stressful. I didn’t mean to take it out on you.”

He caved, it’s not surprising after watching them interact with each other. Plus Madison’s parents weren’t joking. When they said, Alfred couldn’t stay mad at Madison for too long.

Lifting her head, beaming Alfred with a huge smile. Madison said, “Really. If your really sorry you’ll treat me to lunch, right?”
