Chapter 83
Mellis crawled into the basement and hid in one of the wooden shelves. She was in a complete panic, trying to calm down and come to her senses. The loud sound of cracking wood made her shake even more. The sounds of subsequent blows did not allow her to calm down. She prayed that everything would be okay and that the robbers would soon leave. But the sounds became even louder, and the robbers began to threaten death in rage, after which everything became even worse. Mellis could not hear it, she covered her ears and prayed, listening to the loud beating of her heart.
At some point, Mellis came to her senses and heard only silence. She did not have time to think anything, as she heard something fall, and then loud screams of her mother. Mellis no longer thought constructively, got out of the shelf and quickly climbed the stairs. Coming out of the basement, Mellis saw that all the robbers were dead, but she did not pay attention to them. Her father was lying with almost extinguished eyes, just like that guy, a long time ago. Mellis quickly ran to him and saw many wounds, she did not know what to do. Her mother hugged her and pressed her to her chest trying to calm her down, but instead of falling into hysterics or stupor, Mellis began to save him and assess which wounds were fatal.
During her new life, she was able to understand the changes in her and other people's anatomy quite well, making great progress in this. She examined the wounds on her arms and legs, quickly deciding what to do. She nudged her mother with her hand and spoke loudly.
"Mom! Quickly rip all the clothes and bandage the wounds, very, very tightly!" Seeing that Alice did not understand her, she spoke even louder. "Quickly!!!" From her last scream, her father turned his head and noticed her, he tried to stretch his hand to her and say something, but his strength left him, his hand fell, and the words were not heard.
Mellis was in pain, but she couldn't pay much attention to him, she will try to save him. Quickly giving commands, her mother stopped crying and calmed, down under her direction applied several tourniquets to his arms and legs, slowing the loss of blood. Turning her father on his side, the real work began. He had four wounds in the back, but all of them hit the ribs and did not hit anything important. As for the wounds in the side, she was not sure that he would survive them. Blood was gushing out of the wound on his side, Mellis was sure that his liver had been hit, and probably more than once.
Having collected her thoughts, Mellis ordered her mother to bring all the strong alcohol, and she herself went to her mother's workplaces and took a box in which there were silk threads, tweezers, needles, scissors and everything she might need. Then she went to the stove and put a lot of needles inside, making sure that they heated up to red. Having sat down next to her father and laid out the instruments, Mellis managed to examine the wounds and think a little before her mother came with several bottles of a local very strong swill, similar to moonshine. Pulling the bottle out of her hands, Mellis generously poured it on all the wounds, on her arms, legs, back and side. Yes, this could lead to trouble, but it was better to get burns than to start blood poisoning.
Having done this, Mellis took out a small knife very similar to a scalpel and also poured alcohol on it, along with other laid out instruments and hands. Having brought the scalpel to the body of her father, Mellis stopped, under the heavy and uncomprehending gaze of her mother. Instead of explaining anything, she ordered to bring a clean cloth, a lot of clean cloth, and pass her the hot needles in the oven. The mother heeded her commands and silently did everything she told her to do.
When everything was ready, Mellis made a large incision in the abdominal wall for easy access to the liver. As she moved the scalpel, she had to really apply a lot of force to cut everything correctly, as strong as her father's body was. This gave her more hope.
After making an incision and blotting everything with a cloth, Mellis was able to see that there were 4 small wounds in the liver, Mellis figured that she would not have to risk much to stitch everything up, instead of partially removing the liver. After clamping the hepatic artery and main vein with a suitable clothespin, Mellis made sure that there was no bile or other serious wounds anywhere. After asking her mother to bring heated needles, Mellis began to slowly and carefully weld the vessels that she could not stitch, blotting everything with a cloth at the same time. After doing this, Mellis carefully removed the blood with a cloth again, this time there was almost none, only minor bleeding remained. Taking a very thin silk thread and threading it through a needle, Mellis thought that silk threads were not suitable for this operation, but she had no choice anyway. These threads were made from some kind of magic butterfly and were stronger than usual, did not absorb moisture as much and practically did not degrade, she hoped that even if these were not absorbable threads, they would be enough to buy time.
This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.
Mellis took a deep breath, her hands became as steady as possible, and then she began to stitch the first vessel. It was hard, but her years of experience in the hospital, various skills and high characteristics helped her a lot. After stitching the first one, she began the second, and then the third. After 20 minutes, Mellis stitched all the vessels and began stitching the liver itself. Using the stitch style that she thought was most suitable, Mellis was able to neatly stitch the entire liver in the next 20 minutes. Sighing, Mellis looked for some tubes in the box, finding them, she doused them with alcohol and carefully applied them to the bottom of the liver. After removing the clamps on the arteries, Mellis hopefully watched to see if blood would flow, but everything was within her expectations, thin small streaks formed, but their spread stopped. Sighing, Mellis stitched the surgical incision and left a drain just in case, lowering the end of the tube into a bottle of water.
Moving on to other wounds, over the next 4 hours Mellis stitched up several large veins and many muscles in his legs and arms, the through-and-through wound in his leg was especially problematic. But everything worked out, despite the fact that her father lost consciousness as soon as she made an incision to the liver, his breathing remained steady throughout the operation, of course, the severe blood loss and weak heartbeat were a big risk, but she could do nothing about it. She could only hope for his high physique, endurance and vitality. She also had to find something that could replace antibiotics to prevent the spread of infection.
When she had finished everything, she and her mother carefully moved her father closer to the stove and covered him with blankets. It was a good moment to tell her mother everything, her silent gaze directly asked what she was doing and where she learned it from. But Mellis did not want to talk about it. She went to her mother and hugged her, covering herself with a blanket she lay on her chest, vividly feeling her emotions, experiences and questions. Alice wanted to say something, but remained silent, starting to stroke Mellis's head and ears until she fell asleep from fatigue.

The next day, Mellis woke up alone next to her father and immediately rushed to check if everything was okay with him. His heartbeat was still weak, but better than before. He also had a slight fever, which was not good but expected. After checking the wounds, Mellis saw that they looked fine, there was no rot or discharge, but she still gave him a full dressing.
Having finished with her father, Mellis paid more attention to the surroundings, the bodies of the robbers had disappeared and even the traces of blood that remained on the floor were almost cleared. The stove was still burning weakly and the house was warm, despite the harsh winter. The door that the robbers had damaged yesterday was repaired, with boards and a new lock. Having examined all this, Mellis could not understand when her mother had managed to do all this, it was a lot of work, she probably had to work all night.
After wiping away the tears that were gathering in her eyes, Mellis was able to think about everything that had happened yesterday and began to cry loudly. She was so scared, she almost lost her parents in the fight, and then her father, whom she saved miraculously. He had lost a lot of blood, which she could not fix. Since without the necessary reagents, she could not determine the blood type, and hope that her blood would match. Now there was another problem, the subsequent operation to remove the stitches on the liver, and the risk of infection and inflammation. After thinking about it for a while, Mellis began to cry even louder, she did not know where to find antibiotics to solve this. But after thinking about it longer, she realized that everything was not so bad. Father had the skill [Disease Resistance] [Common] and [Poison Resistance] [Common], they would help him well in recovery. Also, many characteristics of constitution, endurance and vitality should have made his body much better in terms of healing. Of course she couldn't find antibiotics, but she could look for people who raised bees and collect propolis, one of the best available means that could replace antibiotics. But she still wasn't sure that everything would work out well.

Mellis's mother returned only in the evening and immediately hugged her daughter tightly. She began to console her and apologize for not coming earlier. Mellis hugged her back, tearfully saying that everything was fine, but she could not continue the conversation further. She was still afraid to tell that she was a Reincarnator, although it was already stupid to deny it. Her mother squeezed her tighter in her arms and let her go, starting to lay out medicinal herbs and ointments, telling what she had been doing today.
Having laid out the herbs, Alice began to untie her father's bandages and carefully apply the healing ointment to the wounds. Later, she lifted her husband and gave him water to drink along with another tincture. Mellis all this time carefully helped her with everything and hoped that the treatment would really help.
They spent the next few days caring for their father, making sure he was getting better, but nothing changed. His fever was rising, his heartbeat was still weak, and his wounds were starting to show signs of inflammation. During this time, Alice never asked Mellis what she had done to her father, and Mellis never spoke about it, which made everyone feel awkward.
Two days after being wounded, Morgan came to and was incredibly happy to see his wife and daughter. When he moved and winced in pain, and then opened his eyes, Mellis and Alice cried with happiness and hugged him tenderly, causing Morgan to cry with happiness too. At that moment, Mellis was sure that he would survive and they would be able to cope with everything.
