Chapter 9: Isidra

Chapter 9: Isidra

Isidra

Pain, excruciating pain. I felt like I was dying. Well, I was dying. It hurt like a mother fucker. They say birth is the worst pain a woman will experience; well I’d rather have tried that.

I lay there writhing on the ground of some unfamiliar place. My heart was pounding like it was trying to pump concrete through my veins and just couldn’t move it. More pain ran through my stomach and I doubled over.

Someone else was in the room but. I couldn’t focus on them, but I knew it was the asshole who had done this to me. They say your life flashes before your eyes when you’re dying, that’s a crock of shit. Empty darkness was all that I saw in the last moments.

I woke up in more darkness, surrounded by weight on every part of me. I tried to move, but it was slow and difficult. Then I realized that I had been buried. I panicked and tried to scream like an idiot. Of course, I swallowed a lot of dirt. I began to suffocate, and my panic got worse. I did everything I could to get my arms in front of me. The dirt was loose and as I continued to freak out, I slowly clawed my way out. When I got out of my grave, I spit out the dirt and took in a deep breath. Nothing happened.

“You don’t breathe anymore,” said a male voice.

I looked around what seemed to be a large garden. There was a freaking mansion a little way away and there was Jack. I leaped out of the grave and went to swing at him. He just stood there not even flinching when my fist stopped only inches from his face.

“You can’t harm your sire, young one. Now come along, you have much to learn.”

He began walking away. I started after him. I took in everything around me, the sounds, the smells, the sights. Everything was more… Vibrant.

“What happened?” I asked him. My brain was foggy.

“Don’t you remember?” He questioned.

My mind started racing, then I remembered. Alan’s look of horror as this asshole bit into my neck. I remember the burning in my neck. It was like flames were flowing through my veins. My heart beating like a skipping rock. I tried to move, but I couldn’t. I tried to scream out to Alan, but nothing came out.

“YOU KILLED ME!”

I rushed up behind Jack and tried again to hit him. I was rejected again. I kept trying, hoping that I could hit him just once. After several attempts, I finally gave up. Jack never stopped walking toward the house.

We were at the door now. He turned to me and said nothing. He simply stepped to the side and opened the door. Slowly, I crept forward. I didn’t know what to expect, but I figured if he wanted me dead, he wouldn’t have turned me into a Vampire. A fucking Vampire. A blood-sucking, soulless, pale-skinned, evil murderer? My father was going to kill me! Literally.

“Why me?” I asked.

“Leverage.”

Great, so I was a pawn. He was going to use me to get to Alan, but what did he want with Alan. There was no point in asking him, he’d just give me some 1-word answer or not answer at all. I guess I’ll just have to stay alive long enough to find out.

I stepped inside the mansion and looked around. Alan always told me to familiarize myself with potential exits when I enter a new place. I’m glad I’d been actually paying attention to him that day. One wall was glass from floor to ceiling. I could see the front door and what was probably the garage entrance, off the kitchen. Being a self-proclaimed foodie, of course, I noticed the kitchen. It had all stainless-steel appliances. 2 convection ovens. A huge island with a 5 top range and range hood. There was enough cabinet space to store dinnerware for a small army. Off the kitchen was a large living space. There was a massive tv and several speakers around the room. A dark blue sectional with a couple of glass end tables. The floor was wood, but there was a large rug in front of the couch. The walls were all bare.

Jack moved passed me into the kitchen. He went to the fridge and pulled out…

“Is that blood?”

He said nothing. He took the bag and put it on the counter. Then he went into one of the cabinets and grabbed a large pot. He filled it with water and put it on the stove. He set the burner too high and dropped the bag of blood in it. I watched in silence as he continued moving about the kitchen. He grabbed a mug from another cabinet and set it on the island next to the stove. I was about to say something when I smelled something familiar. I couldn’t put my finger on it at first. I looked around and saw nothing. I moved into the living room and kept sniffing the air.

“Wet dog!” I said out loud.

I turned around to face Jack and there was another man in the room. He must’ve come from outside. He had on swim trunks and was drying his hair as though he had just come from the water. I didn’t remember seeing a pool outside, but that didn’t matter right now. He. Was. Sexy! If I still had a heartbeat, it would be dancing right now. He wasn’t tall, but he wasn’t short. Maybe 5’10” or so. His skin was like dark chocolate. He had these big beautiful brown eyes. He wasn’t wearing a shirt and oh my did I like what I saw. I think his eight-pack had a 6 pack.

Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

“Is this the girl from last night?” He asked Jack.

Jack didn’t reply. He just stood there staring at the man. If looks could kill, this guy would be dead. I stepped forward to introduce myself and his eyes started to glow.

“Keep away from me. You smell like the dead.”

He turned to Jack and began speaking in another language. I couldn’t tell what it was. He and Jack stopped talking to each other and both faced me.

“You are a guest in my house. You may go anywhere within these walls but never go outside alone. There are things out there that wouldn’t welcome you. Jack will show you to your room. Once you’ve washed the smell of death off, we can have a proper introduction.”

He walked away and turned a corner. I turned back to Jack who was holding out the mug to me. It smelled delicious. I took it from him and looked inside. It was blood! I stared at the mug with disgust and curiosity. I knew what I was and what that meant. I was surprisingly calm about it. I didn’t know why. Maybe it was all the things I had seen working in an emergency room. Maybe I was too shocked to care. I don’t know, but it didn’t bother me like you would think it should.

I took a sip from the cup and I’ve never tasted anything so divine. I wish I had something to compare it to. It tastes like the day you had your favorite comfort food, your favorite dessert, and the best fucking sex of your life! It was near orgasmic. I could see why Vampires in movies wanted to eat so many people.

“Is it always this good?”

Jack actually smiled at me before responding.

“No. That is from a particular donor. I wanted your first experience to be a good one. I see I made the right choice. It would have been better straight from the source, but I didn’t want to scare you off on the first night.”

‘Who was that man?”

“That is Remus. He’s a Werewolf, hence the wet dog smell.”

I must’ve had a confused look on my face because Jack started to explain.

“Remus was once the right hand of the most powerful Werewolf to ever live. For some reason unknown to me, he betrayed his alpha and came to work for my master.”

“Why would a Werewolf work for a Vampire?”

“Enough questions for tonight. The sun is almost up. Let’s get you to your room. You have a long night ahead of you.”

Jack walked me upstairs and through the house to a large room. There were several windows. I could see that the sun was rising.

“Is there a coffin in the closet or something? The sun will hurt me won’t it?”

“Idiot child, we don’t sleep in coffins anymore. Technology gave us windows that block ultraviolet rays. You can sit here and stare at the sun all day and never burn. Now go to sleep.”

He walked out the room, closing the door behind him.

When I woke up the next morning, well, night for everyone else but morning for us vampires. Anyway, I felt fucking amazing! I’m pretty sure I literally jumped up and out of bed. My room was dark, but I could see like it was the middle of the day. I could smell fresh blood. Don’t ask me how I knew, I just knew it was blood. I could also hear several hearts beating. I ran downstairs to find Jack and our mysterious host standing in the kitchen.

I kept following the smell of blood and the sound of heartbeats. I walked into the living room and saw that there were a few more guests in the house, but they were human. I picked out the one that was bleeding. I moved faster than I knew I could. Before he or I knew what was happening, I was across the room with a grip on the back of his head. I was tilting his head to bite him when suddenly I found myself flying across the room into a wall. I hit hard, but it didn’t hurt much. I got up faster than I should’ve been able to and turned to face my attacker. I saw the Remus and my instinct kicked in. I rushed him. Word to the wise, don’t rush an angry werewolf who is several hundred years older than you. My attack never reached its target. He caught me with his outstretched left arm and held me a few feet off the ground.

“I rescind your invitation into my home.”

PAIN! My insides were suddenly on fire, and someone was crushing my chest. My head was being split open from the inside out. I felt like I was going to vomit. I doubled over from the pain. There was a tugging sensation in my gut, and I was pulled backward. I tried to grab onto things, and it worked at first, but the pain got worse and the tugging more powerful. I was being dragged outside. I was being kicked out. All this for being thirsty?

Eventually, I lost the battle and was snatched out of the house by whatever power made these kinds of things happen. Unfortunately for me, I wasn’t snatched out of a magically opened door like in the movies. No, I’m not that lucky. I got snatched out of a thick-ass window. Now that hurt. I felt several cuts open up on my skin. Before I had much time to register the pain though, I could feel the wounds healing.

I lay there on the grass outside, face in the dirt. I realized that the pain had stopped. This guy was a total asshole. I got my hands underneath me and lifted myself up off the ground. I heard them approaching before I saw them.

“That was rude.”

“SILENCE! The only reason I didn’t remove your head from your body is because Jack is the one who turned you. Disrespect my home or my guest like that again and I will introduce you to the final death. Do you understand me?”

“Jack, are you just going to let him treat me like that?

“Yes.”

“What the fuck?! There was fresh blood and I haven’t had anything to drink since last night. What did you expect?’

“Restraint.”

“Fuck you, Jack. Where was your restraint when you did this to me?”

“I showed great restraint. I didn’t drain you dry and leave you to die in front of your boyfriend.”

“Fiance,” I corrected.

Alan, I thought to myself. In all this excitement I had forgotten to worry about him. I wasn’t worried about him though. Even thinking about that fact at that moment, I wasn’t worried. Being without a soul is a real drag on a relationship.
