Chapter 5: Unorthodox Meetup

Thirty minutes later, Devo and Xeno flew through the sky with their world maps open. Xeno quickly flew up next to Devo.

"Could you show me the quest you got from Nola? I want to check something.". Devo opened the quest menu and the two looked at the quest. Devo wasn't entirely sure what Xeno was looking for. Xeno pointed at the spot under the quest reward title. Devo looked at what Xeno was pointing at and noticed the odd reward. The reward for completing the quest was, "A custom-made sword from Nola".

"So you can be rewarded with something that doesn't exist, how bizarre," Xeno commented. Xeno mentioned they should form a party so they can easily spot each other on the map if there are other people at the dungeon. Devo agreed and the two formed a party

"I know you said it was close by but it's still going to take another hour and a half to reach the dungeon. So, we should periodically stop in towns whenever we can.". Devo sighed and stated that would double their journey time. Xeno chuckled and said they'll see how long his mindset lasts.

Meanwhile, at the Metal City, A short girl with fairy wings, cat ears, and a tail exited her room. She adjusted her lab coat as she playfully strolled through the sci-fi laboratory-themed halls of the Luminasity Guild Building. She had long light silvery blonde hair that was tied into two braided ponytails. She greeted everyone she walked past. She went around a corner and spotted Nova exiting her room in her casual wear.

"Good morning Nova.". Apon hearing the girl's voice, Nova instinctively tried to straighten out her sun coloured hair before turning to face the girl. Nova quickly stood as straight as she could and put both are arms behind her back.

"Good morning Lady Lumina, I hope the day finds you well.". Lumina slightly laughed at Nova's attempt to keep up her knightly mannerisms.

"You don't need to mess around with all that formal roleplay, we're friends after all.". Nova let out a disheartened sigh and slouched slightly.

"Fine I guess it was getting kinda old anyway. Say Lumi you wanna head to Caffeeleta, pretty sure they'll be serving pudding today.". Lumina got excited while imagining all the flavours they might be selling at the store. Lumina grabbed Nova's hand and started to lead Nova in the direction of the building's exit.

Thirty minutes later at a village in the Erudite Grasslands, a slightly annoyed Devo and smug Xeno entered the village and stopped by an outdoor cafe. The two of them sat down and Devo placed his head on the table.

"I'm surprised we were able to fly for an hour straight without encountering a single monster on our journey," Xeno stated as Devo lifted his head.

"I didn't really notice but I guess you're right.". A waitress approached the two and asked if she could take their orders. Xeno ordered a vanilla milkshake and Devo ordered a strawberry ice cream. The two waited for the waitress to return. During their wait, Devo and Xeno heard a crash near the direction they had entered the village from. The two looked in the direction of the noise and spotted a Titan Turtle had fallen on its back. Devo and Xeno watched the merchants around the Titan Turtle try to tip it back on its feet.

The shadow underneath the turtle turned pitch black and a shadow tendril appeared. The tendril wrapped around the turtle and flipped the turtle around before placing the turtle on the ground. The tendril and dark shadow disappeared. Xeno and Devo watched the merchants look around trying to figure out where the tendril came from.

"They probably could've handled that without your help.".

"That may be true but the noises the Titan Turtle was making were really annoying.". Devo agreed that the sounds the turtle was making were annoying. The waitress returned with their orders and placed two desserts on the table.

"That'll be twelve Valts for the strawberry ice cream and nine Valts for the vanilla milkshake.". The two paid and started to eat their desserts. After finishing, the two threw away their trash and headed off again.

Later, Shira finished equipping all of her new equipment. She put the hood over her head before exiting the changing room. She was wearing the black witch dress that had been modified to have a hood with fox ears. She was also wearing black/purple witch boots and pink metal bands around each of her wrists. Alice, Nola, and BB all nodded their heads in agreement. Nola and Alice looked at BB who quickly stopped nodding and sat down like a fox.

"Anyway, you look great Shira.". Nola nodded in agreement with Alice's statement.

"You... sure?". Alice told her that was the case. The group hurried over to the store counter and Shira bought all the equipment. She bidded Shira and Alice farewell.

Alice and Shira, with BB sleeping in her hood, left the building. The two wondered what to do since Devo wasn't with them anymore. Alice got an idea.

"How about we go to Caffeeleta?". Shira looked puzzled and asked what that was. Alice explained it was a player-owned cafe that was a popular hangout area in Eldrian Online. Shira nodded and said that sounded like fun. However, when they arrived at the cafe, Alice and Shira spotted Nova carrying a crying Lumina in her right arm. Nova spotted Alice and Shira approaching.

"Greetings Alice and... Shira" Nova said while quickly checking Shira's status to learn her name. Shira waved at Nova.

"Hi Nova. So, why's Lumi crying?". Nova pointed to the sign on the Caffeeleta's door. The two looked at the sign and both got upset. The sign stated that the cafe was closed until Luna returned from an errand (will be back in two days as of 26th).

"Well... I...". Alice thought about what to do now but couldn't think of anything. Alice scratched her head. Nova asked Alice if she was ok. Alice explained that she was originally planning on exploring the town with Devo and Shira but then he got a quest from Nola and now the only place she could think of visiting was closed.

"On the subject of Devo where is he heading anyway?". Alice explained the quest Devo got and what dungeon he said he was going to. Lumina overheard Alice and Nova's conversation. She managed to stop crying and got an idea.

Meanwhile, at the Thunder Cave Dungeon entrance, Devo and Xeno landed in front of the dungeon's entrance and Devo clicked his neck.

"I'm surprised we were able to make it here in just an hour and a half," Xeno remarked as his cloak reverted to its original form. Devo stretched his arms as his wings disappeared.

"It was surprising we ran into members of your guild with the Tempest Wyvern". Devo noticed a pop-up, causing Devo to endearingly sigh after reading the pop-up. Xeno asked what it said.

"It says Alice and her party members plus five wish to teleport to you.".

"Well, it won't hurt to let them tag along on the dungeon gathering but will the teleportation even work?" Xeno asked. Devo shrugged and nonchalantly clicked accept. The two looked around and wondered where they were.

"Guess it didn't wor-". A blue flash appeared above Devo and before he could respond, Alice landed on top of Devo, with the others landing around the area. Xeno chuckled to himself as he watched the disorientated Alice sit up straight. She shook her head and looked at Xeno.

"What's so funny?". Xeno feigned ignorance and said he wasn't sure what she was talking about. She didn't believe him as he kept chuckling as he answered her. Alice received a message. She opened her message app and read the message.

"Get off me before I make you. From Devo.". Alice put two and two together and realized what Xeno was laughing about. She quickly sat up and realized she had been sitting on Devo's face. Alice profusely apologized as Devo sat up. Devo just stood up and told her not to worry about it.

"Mind telling me why you're using the teleport function and why you didn't tell me it worked?". Alice explained that it was Lumina's idea since she overheard members of the guild had used it. Devo looked over at Lumina who playfully waved at him.

"So, I take it you want to help with the quest?". Alice nodded with the other three confirming her response. Devo said fine and sent Alice a party merge request which she accepted. Nova equipped her armor and shield, while Alice, Shira, and Lumina took out their weapons.

Devo walked over to the door and placed his hand on the magic circle in front of the door. The magic circle disappeared and the door slowly opened. The group braced themselves before entering the dungeon.

Meanwhile, at the Luminasity guild building, A short girl with lime hair stopped in front of a door and quickly flicked through all the tattered-looking paper and straightened her yellow maid uniform before opening the door. She walked into the room. As she closed the door, she caught the attention of the tall man in a lab coat, who had the same hair colour as Lumina and was covering his left eye with his hand.

"I got the papers you requested." The girl said as she placed the papers on his desk. The guy walked over to his desk and sat down.

"Thank you Mizu. Are there any reports on your brother's investigations?". Mizu shook her head.

"Fraid not, Kaze told me there have been too many monsters in the area for the research team to do any actual research but he did say he'll be able to get rid of all the monsters by tomorrow.". The guy straightened out the papers on his desk and asked if that was the only thing she needed to report.

"Well, the only thing of note that comes to mind is that Lumi said she was going with Alice to the Thunder Cave Dungeon.". The guy paused for a second and placed the papers on the desk before resting his head on his hands.

"And why might my sister be traveling there?".

"Well, she sent me a message saying she was going to teleport with Alice to Devo to help him with a quest he got from Nola.". The guy scratched his head in response.

"I sure pity him. He's had to deal with three of the four biggest trouble makers in my guild in a single day.". Mizu looked confused at his remark.

"Four biggest trouble makers? Alice, Lumi, Nola and... who's the fourth?".

"That would be you." The guy bluntly stated. Mizu was shocked at this revelation, believing she had been quite orderly.

"Y-you know what I'm not making you any Maple Tea for that, Luminous.". Luminous slightly chuckled, to the point it could have been mistaken for a simple exhale.

"My apologies but I assumed you knew but if it's any consolation you're ranked fourth.". Mizu stated it wasn't really but it did make her feel a little better knowing she was the least troublesome trouble maker; however saying that in her head made her realize how stupid that idea sounded, causing her face to become slightly gloomy.

"So, I assume I'm not getting any tea today then?" Luminous asked. Mizu didn't respond and sat in one of the chairs opposite Luminous' desk. Luminous sighed and tossed a gold coin onto Mizu's lap.

"Could you use that to buy two pizzas from Onix's restaurant?". Mizu got off the chair and happily told him she would before hurrying off. Luminous opened his map to make sure she was gone before remarking he should probably move her up to the third position.
