It was time for Alex to make some much-needed upgrades to his territory. With having farmed 400,000 bones there are plenty of buildings to make and upgrade.
He also still has his 10 Skill orbs which he is very interested in. It’s about time for him to live like a true Necromancer and build an army of the undead!
He pulled out the first orb and concentrated on it.
[Skill Orb (Super Rare)]
[This orb will grant the user a skill of their choosing based on the user's race]
[Would you like to consume?]
[Yes]
The shining orb grew brighter and brighter until it was like a makeshift sun in his bony grasp. After a few seconds, his entire vision was white, and a new menu appeared before him.
[Race confirmed: Undead]
[Assorting Skills...]
[Select your skill]
Before him was a bright golden screen, different from the usual blue. On this screen was an endless array of skills listed. As he was scrolling down the list he got to a section where the list became red, showing him that he couldn’t select these skills.
Curious as to why, he tapped on one.
[Summon Death Tyrant]
[Unavailable - Level too low]
So just like before there were limits. It seems that the skill orb isn’t omnipotent. It was best not to use them all right now. But he was still planning to use some of them. There are skills available that he could choose that are going to be useful no matter his level.
Scrolling back up he found his first choice.
[Raise Skeleton Warrior]
I know what you’re thinking - “Why would you pick that skill when he already had it?”. Well, let me tell you.
There is a big difference between the skill he has which is [Summon Undead Warrior] and this skill [Raise Skeleton Warrior].
The difference is between raising and summoning. When you summon something, you are using your mana to form their entire being. This means that once the being is summoned it can only stay alive until the mana sustaining it runs out.
Raising something, on the other hand, requires a body to be used as a medium and mana to form a soul for the newly raised body. Meaning that the raised minion will stay alive until it dies, or the necromancer dismisses the soul.
Now back to the story~
After Alex confirmed his choice, the bright orb flared up once more before shattering in his hand, with the glass falling to the floor and turning into dust, to be blown away with the wind.
[Raise Skeleton Warrior Level 1]
[Consume a corpse to raise 1 [Skeleton Warrior]]
[Max: 1]
Confirming that he did indeed receive his new skill, there were a few more he wanted to claim from the list he had access to.
[Raise Skeleton Archer Level 1]
[Raise Skeleton Mage Level 1]
These 3 spells would be the basis of his growing army.
So far he had used 3 of the orbs, leaving 7 remaining, and grasped the foundation of his entire army. It wasn’t a bad turnout.
Next, it was time to raise his territory level, which would give him access to many more new spells.
He walked over to his [Lord’s Manor] which was an eyesore to Alex, who prided himself on visual perfection.
[Lords Manor]
[Level: 1]
[Durability: Infinite]
[Description: Basic dwelling for the lord of the territory]
[Can be upgraded]
He tapped on the option to fix this humble mess of a home.
[Upgrade]

The upgrade required 10,000 bones, which was no problem for Alex at all.
The small manor that was standing there began to collapse, which caught him off guard. He was expecting something a little more... flashy? With lights and sparkles.
Unfortunately, no such light show appeared, and the building just slowly collapsed and crumbled into dust, floating away on the next gust of air that came through.
Not knowing what to expect next, he stood there waiting, but he never would have guessed what happened next.
A small tear in the void appeared just next to where he was standing, startling him. He had read enough stories about strange creatures from the void with their long and slimy tentacles. A shiver ran down his spine just thinking about a certain genre of story. We all know where this is going.
Lucky for Alex, however, what came out of this tear in the void wasn’t Mr. Tentacle-San, but a white bone. Followed by another, and another. Bone after bone came flying out from this small tear all heading for the location of his old manor.
The bones stacked up on top of each other and fused together to make a wall, which was surprisingly smooth for being made out of loose bones. It didn’t take long for another lot of bones to zoom out from the tear to make another wall. This kept going until the rest of the manor was built up.
He looked into his inventory and exactly 10,000 bones had been taken from his stash, even though he was sure it would take more than 10,000 bones to build a house this size, he just put that down to game logic and kept moving.
He admired his new building from the outside. It was roughly the same size as the previous one, maybe slightly bigger. The walls were an off-white color and made from bones, obviously. There was a small window on the same wall as the door, how they managed to make a window with bones, he had no idea. But it was there. The door opened up into a large room that contained all the amenities of his previous abode, except where the things previously had been made from wood, his new furniture was crafted with bones as the main material.
The roof which was a dome, instead of a pointed roof, was also crafted out of bones. This wasn’t what Alex would usually choose for aesthetics, he didn’t mind the bone material, as it fits in well with his undead/necromancer vibe, but he had always been a sucker for old-style Japanese rooftops, with the little flick at the edges.
He remembered reading about that style of roof before, he was unsure if it was true or not, but the story he read mentioned that they were shaped that way because if a ghost or soul fell from the sky and landed on one of those buildings, it would slide down and coming to the end with that little flick, it would make them fly right back into the sky.
If that truly was the case, it made sense why a necromancer who specializes in souls wouldn’t want them to be chased away.

This day just keeps getting better and better.
He looked over his skills and spells, nothing with them had changed other than instead of summoning or raising 1 minion, he can now do 2. Over all with that single level up, he had doubled his personal power.
Now it was time to upgrade his summoning gate before he used it for the day.

[Yes]
After confirming this time, he was happy that his summoning gate didn’t collapse. He quite honestly liked the way it looked with the black-rock archway and the glowing runes on them. It was very pleasing to him.
Another tear in the void appeared but this time he didn’t pucker his non-existent rectum. The bones came flying out and dug themselves in between the gaps where the black-rock connected to each other, making a kind of gruesome-looking chain, and the rest of the bones flew out and dug themselves into the ground, forming a ring around the summoning gate and a pentagram of bones, with the archway of the gate in the center.
This made it look very dark and ominous. Alex approved.

Another option came to Alex’s mind. Why only settle for leveling up his buildings once? After levelling up so far he still had 385,000 bones left. He could easily spare another 150,000 bones to upgrade both of his buildings to level 3, which would also raise his own personal level once again, making him stronger, and having access to more and more things.
So that’s exactly what he was going to do. He would also use more of his [Skill Orb] when he got to level 3 to increase his strength, and then his conquest would begin.
After making up his mind, he summoned his [Carrion Crow]. A pool of liquid miasma grew from the floor, and out of this pool burst a zombified crow, it was missing one of its eyes (Ironic for a scout), its beak was all broken and twisted, and its black feathers were patchy, showing raw rotting skin in-between. Then out burst another, and another. 10 in total thanks to his multiplier.
He gave them a command to spread out and scout the areas around the wasteland. It was time to start making his move and expanding his territory.
