Feeling excited, Lorien couldn't wait to test his newfound abilities
Standing straight, he activated his [Clairvoyance], and because this was the first time he ever used it, he didn't define a specific event and decided to let it be random; He was quite curious as to what his ability will show him
With it functioning, the scene in front of him abruptly shifted
Looking around, Lorien found himself standing in the middle of a destroyed city; Everything was in complete ruins; There were no buildings as far as the eye could see; All one could see were piles upon piles of rocks, concrete, burnt wood, and torn iron
It looked like a ghost town with no people in sight; It just reeked of death
Seeing this, Lorien frowned, He really didn't like seeing such scenes, but then just as he turned his head to the side, something caught his attention
It was actually a Dream Tree, standing there tall in the middle of the ruins, it made a huge contrast compared to its surroundings
Obviously whatever happened here couldn't affect it which is something that Lorien had long expected
After all, one of the tree's abilities is to make itself 'phaseless', which means turning into a 'Dream' state causing it to be impossible to hit unless the attack can cross the boundaries between Dream and Reality
But just then, before Lorien could further observe the situation, his vision suddenly shifted again
This time what appeared in front of him was a booth selling newspapers, it was very crowded as people looked very eager to buy the newspapers; Apparently, the news released today was very important
Looking through the crowd, Lorien was quickly able to gather some information
The first is that the scene is from the U.S.A; Lorien was able to determine this based on the names of the newspapers
But what truly drew his attention was their content, the date was, August 6, 1945, and the titles of the many different newspapers were very similar
'''''RAIN OF RUIN FACED BY THE JAPANESE''''
'''''ATOMIC SUPER-BOMB, MADE AT OAK RIDGE, STRIKES JAPAN'''''
'''''NEW ATOMIC BOMB USED ON JAPS''''
There were a variety of such titles, but all of them pointed to the same thing; Lorien didn't need any more information to understand what event he was witnessing
'World War 2...Japan'
Stolen novel; please report.
But without leaving any time for Lorien to clear his mind, the scenes changed again; He was now standing in the previous city from the first scene, but this time the city wasn't in ruins
But that won't last for long; Looking up, Lorien saw some sort of bomb dropping down from the sky at a great speed; It spun through the air as the plane that dropped it flew away
And in no time this bomb reached its target as its firing mechanism triggered
*BOOOM!!*
Then...there was nothing; A huge fireball appeared engulfing everything as a strong shockwave quickly followed spreading everywhere with the explosion as its center
Those closest to the blast were immediately evaporated before they could even react, and even those who were far away weren't spared as the shock waved raised everything in its path to the ground killing them in the prosses
In a matter of seconds, a city was destroyed leaving nothing but a huge mushroom cloud and a conspicuous golden tree standing there unaffected
The moment this explosion happened, Lorien instinctively wanted to use his ability and turn himself into a 'Dream' to evade it, but he quickly remembered that he wasn't truly there
Before he could completely take everything in, he was 'kicked out' from the 'vision' as he found himself back in his backyard
*Hufff*
*Huffff*
*Hufffff*
Breathing heavily, Lorien looked shaken, this is the first time in his life seeing such levels of destruction
In the previous world before 'traveling' here, he watched a documentary about this specific event, but it couldn't compare to seeing the thing in person
What truly shook Lorien wasn't the damage caused by the explosion as it didn't pose much danger to him personally
This is mainly because it is too slow to hit him; No matter how strong an attack is, as long as it doesn't land then its meaningless; Not to mention that he could think of many ways to easily stop it before it detonates
What truly shook Lorien was the number of innocent people he saw dying there; Even though Lorien is usually very cold to strangers and doesn't care about their well-being, it doesn't mean that he doesn't sympathize or feel bad for them
It's just that feelings and actions are very different; He does feel bad about it, but he usually won't help unless he feels like it, and may even kill them if they stand in his way
Very contradictory don't you think? But that's Lorien's Personality
Shaking his head, He breathed a long but desolate sigh as he tried to suppress his emotions
'To think that the first thing my clairvoyance will show me is this...Is it because I am currently in Japan?'
Calming down for a while, he quickly threw those complex thoughts aside and continued his tests
This time he tried seeing some specific events of his choice; He didn't try anything fancy he just tried to check what the dinner is as he felt a bit hungry
'Hmm...So it's Ramen...'
Nodding slightly, Lorien then continued testing it as he 'watched' a few more 'events' before stopping as he felt a bit exhausted
Resting for an hour, Lorien then immediately resumed his tests; This time he wanted to check the short-term future vision which is the one Lorien is most interested in as it is very useful in combat
At first, Lorien chose to only see a 'second' into the future; It felt very weird watching himself do something he just thought about doing and then watch that same action immediately change with his thoughts changing
'Very peculiar...'
Following this, Lorien then continued further testing it, from 1 second to 2, then 3, until he reached 10 seconds; Only stopping then
The further he went into the future the weirder it felt, and because he didn't have a sparing partner, he didn't know which 'setting' would be best for combat
'I'll test it later against an NPC in a Dream...'
Feeling that he still had some Source Energy in his 'reserves', Lorien decided to continue testing as there were some things he felt curious about and wanted to verify
This bout of tests didn't last long either as Lorien quickly came to a conclusion and understood the things he wanted to
'So that's how it is...'
