Chapter 6

Elementals

Pure energy that became to life with a solid core of crystallized elements as their heart. One of the earliest, if not the earliest race to emerge from Candosoccus. A semi-immortal race envied and admired by many.

Born from the clash of primordials in the dawn of time they witnessed everything that happened in the world. A constant presence in all realms.

Living primarily in the elemental realms, these beings of great power are a source of great mystery as much of their culture and life remains blank. The elemental planes' rejection of entry from any and all non-elemental life is also a great factor that affects this study.

It was said that before settling into the current humanoid form that elementals were varied in terms of body compositions. They mostly mimicked whatever race was currently in power and designed their outer shell to be reminiscent of it.

Some things that are known is that the different planes are all controlled by a lord. The king of their respective elements and that their power can rival the weakest of the primordials and the strongest of modern gods.

Another known factor is that elementals have a hive mind of sorts. How they can keep their individuality even when they are all interconnected is a question many would like answered. Alas they aren't quite forthcoming.

As proof of this various experiments were done and documented. On another note, elementals are some of the worst gossips in all the realms. Recommended to never give any of them incriminating information. It will become common knowledge in less than a day.

Another thing that baffles many are why the younger elementals enter contracts with mortal races, mostly practices of magic or cultivators. There are many theories as to why but there is no concrete answer as the elementals refuse to answer why.

The only way for an elemental to die is the destruction of their core. They are otherwise also unaffected by the passing of time.

This race’s mystery and power make them a great subject of inquiry. They also don't seem to mind being studied and in fact enjoy the process of it.

-An excerpt from the book ‘Elementals and Me by Roark Bejebus’

There was no way a soul could traverse the VOID Between world on its own. It would have been assimilated the moment it exited the boundary. There were three situations where it was possible.

The first or type 1 was that the soul came from a recently destroyed world. The world, whether conscious or not, sent out at least one soul carrying all its inheritance. Its accumulation of everything from knowledge, wisdom, power and so much more.

The soul would be wrapped in the last vestiges of the world's power before its demise. It was through this coating that the soul could survive. After being sent out, the soul would either be lucky enough to enter another world or the energy surrounding it would run out and be assimilated by the VOID.

The second or type 2 was a sabotage attempt by other creators. To conceptual beings doing so was not difficult. In fact, it was quite a favored trick done to gain advantage over the less vigilant. These souls would seem normal at first so the world’s defenses would consider them harmless. Then they would show their flaws.

It could be sending information on the world back to their home sometimes even without the souls knowledge. Others carry anomalous and dangerous substances and energies that would clash with the world's own. It could just be a destructive soul which desires the ruination of all. There were so many ways it could go wrong.

The third possibility or type 3 was so absurd that even I doubt it was the case. It was a literal one in an infinite kind of chance. It was an impossibility but I still checked out for it and came with a negative like I expected.

It got my hopes up everytime it happened and crushed me all the same to find out it wasn't what I wanted . After all, with the rarity of VOID-born souls it shouldn't come up as a surprise. Souls that were born in the VOID, an anomaly among anomalies, a cheat code that was basically guaranteed to become a conceptual being in the future.

It would've saved me a lot of time if they were VOID-born. I guess it was not to be. The dream of an easy time with me doing nothing while they do all the work was gone to the winds.

Figuring out whether they were the first or second was harder. The concepts who used this method are all crafty and made the soul indistinguishable from the first kind. Even with all kinds of checks I might not even find a shred of tampering even when the entire soul was a booby trap.

Not to mention the wasted CHAOS. While Abundant CHAOS was not infinite in supply. It was because the world was newly born with nothing in It that CHAOS was everywhere and I frequently used it to create and modify.

When the world gets older, their rules are more defined and filled with more matter. CHAOS becomes a rarity that the world uses for self management and maintenance. The extra CHAOS is stored for when something catastrophic happens.

Concepts usually harvest these stored CHAOS for our own needs while doing manual maintenance on the world. Making sure the world was in a good state to ensure more harvest was an important part of the job albeit a boring one. It was worth it to see those worlds again after some time apart.

Back to the soul scan, using a minimum amount of CHAOS revealed nothing but a normal soul. This was expected. If it was that easily detected this wouldn't have become such a popular method. Now to decide how much is too much to invest in this soul or alternatively…

I trapped the soul in a seemingly illusory miniature realm. The realm had everything a co plate world had down to its laws and rules. Then it cycled from day to night, light and dark, life and death, seasons and so on. The soul experienced it all. This would give false information as well as save CHAOS and effort.

As the conceptual being of the CYCLE, I am it personalized and more. All cycles be it life and death or of time are under my absolute control. Only other conceptual beings with a more direct connection to those cycles could contend and even then the one with more CHAOS would win.

Using my own nature and authorities I could do this with the least amount of CHAOS required. As long as it corresponds with a cycle I get discounts to all I do. It's why it's easy for me to create worlds far more stable than others. It's also why I was never troubled with the rogue souls.

I just trapped them in an illusory realm and cycled out any and all negative traits. After cleansing the soul through multiple wash cycles it was squeaky clean and ready for deployment.

I decided to let it keep its former memories. It was a type 1 soul classification. A soul of a destroyed world. I learned that from my wash cycles.

I erased the memories from the wash cycles and traces of all the things I put it through. No need to add that to its lists of trauma.

A fallen homeworld was bound to leave some scars.

While I was busy with the soul the world took over minimizing the damage caused by the war. It went from permanent to heals over a long time with little to no residual damage.

Now time for an isekai.

I woke the soul up. It was in a coma-like state after the wash cycles and memory deletion. Made it quite easy to do my modifications.

It was also in this state while traversing the VOID before making contact with my newborn world and briefly waking up before being put in the wash cycle.

Well now I dub thee Sleepy. It may have its own name but to me this guy will be Sleepy. It took a few more tries to wake it up. The name was a fit I decided.

“Where am i? What happened?” A male voice said. Well more thought than said cause there's no physical body only a small glowing ethereal orb.

“Welcome to my world mortal. As for what happened, well wait a bit,” I said, mirth coloring my voice.

“Wha-!” He started then stopped. The orb visibly shuddered and shaked. Sounds of what seemed like breathing only more intense echoed all around. He was hyperventilating. Well trying to, he was just mimicking the effects and sounds but that must've brought him some comfort.

This was going nowhere so with a thought I forcefully calmed him down for the duration of the conversation. Sleepy could have a breakdown later. I could feel his gaze on me once the calm settled in.

“No need to thank me after all we need to get this procedure going,” I said.

“My world. My home. It collapsed," Sleepy said.

“That it did. It's not the first to do so and certainly won't be the last,”

“Why?” His voice was full of emotion even with my forced calm. That was impressive. No wonder Sleepy’s world chose him as its inheritance bearer.

“Well there are many reasons. Your world could have reached the limit of its lifespan, an accident, an explosion, implosion, or even an outside influence destroyed it. There are many possibilities,” I said because truly there were a lot of ways that worlds could die from.

I do have some idea as to what happened to Sleepy's world but I better keep that to myself. He couldn't do anything about it anyway. Sleepy was too weak.

“And what's your role in it?” He asked, there was an edge to his voice. How cute but also INSOLENT.

I released a bit of pressure. Not much, just enough to thoroughly wash the calm from Sleepy. The soul shook so much more violently than before.

“Watch yourself mortal! Do not mistake my calm for kindness. I care not for you. Whether you die or not depends on your choices,” Sleepy, while interesting, was not one of my own creations. He was an outsider. Only my direct creations and some of their descendants could act that way to me and be fine.

I stopped once I felt Sleepy learned his lesson. “Remember this as a warning. I am more reasonable than most of my colleagues were you to do this to them you would have been destroyed in an instant.”

He remained silent for a while gathering himself to compose a front before apologizing. “My apologies. I was not in the right mind.”

“To answer your last impertinent question I have nothing to do with your home's destruction. Now with that out of the way let's talk about your future,” I started hard but ended in a joyful tone.

Sleepy felt like he was having a whiplash. I know because he’s practically an open book to me. His thoughts, emotions, and everything else was on show. This was part because I see his soul and part because of my power.

He probably needed more time to process all this but too bad I’m already bored and want to get this over with.

“Now let's talk about your future in my world.”

----------------------------------------

“I screwed up,” Sleepy sighed. He was now an elemental as part of the deal he made with me. His body was still a spherical core but the shell covering it was humanoid shaped albeit very tiny. He was a newborn after all.

I gave him three boons as a start of his new life. First was protection against primordial influences for fifty million years.

That was the time allotted to Sleepy to fix the current world state. He was to lead a rebellion against the primordials. It wouldn't be possible if the primordials could just get the information and control him however they want. The first boon solved that problem.

The second boon was unlimited potential. It was self explanatory. He would have no boundaries or bottlenecks with talent and the likes. It also came with a bonus extra growth speed for the first fifty million years.

As for the third boon…

A transparent screen appeared before the new elemental.

[Don't worry, host. With system 001 by your side nothing is impossible. ]

It was a system. Something from Sleepy's world. It was mostly a fictional thing rather than a phenomenon. Making it didn't take too long. Also it wasn't an AI or anything of the sort but me who was replying to Sleepy.

Sleepy just looked at the screen blankly. As an elemental he should have 360° vision of everything around him but his former life as a humanoid clashed with that. Even now adjusting to his new body was taking time.

In the end he just sighed. “Alright give me my stats.”

[Here you go!] I made sure to add the effects of flowers being thrown into the screen for personability.
