Knox's Journey Beyond the System
Chapter 7: Routine & Goblin Slaying

Chapter 7: Routine & Goblin Slaying

Knox had endured a difficult first day at the academy, but as the weeks passed, he began to settle into a routine. Each day, he woke up early, attended classes and training, and spent evenings studying and practicing. He was determined to make the most of his time at the academy and learn as much as possible.

Despite the initial challenges, Knox enjoyed the rigorous training and the opportunity to push himself to his limits. He learned new skills and techniques in each class, from mathematics to martial arts. His instructors were impressed with his dedication and progress, often singling him out for praise and encouragement.

Knox had also made a few new friends, including Sara, who continued to mentor him in martial arts. She was a skilled and experienced fighter, and Knox was grateful for her guidance and support. Together, they trained hard, pushing each other to improve and excel.

In his free time, Knox explored the campus and the surrounding areas. He discovered a beautiful park with a lake, where he would often go for a run or sit and read a book. The scenery was breathtaking, and Knox found that being in nature helped him relax and clear his head after a long day of classes and training.

As the weeks passed, Knox felt more confident in himself. He had overcome the initial challenges of being new to the academy and had proven to himself and others that he could succeed. Knox was excited to see the future and determined to make the most of his time at the academy. He was grateful for the opportunities he had been given and looked forward to continuing his journey of growth and self-discovery.

They were in homeroom when the academy made an announcement.

"We believe that you have made significant progress from where you began. Please form groups of three and embark on a quest. Please note that the quest is still an assignment, so make sure to perform it to the best of your abilities. You are dismissed!"

Knox instantly jumped with joy at this opportunity; he wanted to team up with Sara and Jade (a new friend he met at the academy). They were all still getting started in the system so they couldn't focus on a specific ability. This told everyone they were only above-average fighters without special skills. Nevertheless, being able to go on a quest would give someone the ability to fight strong monsters and collect skills.

He found Sara and quickly asked her, “You want to join my party for this assignment?”

“Sure, we can also ask Jade.”

“That’s fine with me!” Together, they searched for Jade and asked her to join them when they found her, which she swiftly accepted.

“Nice. The teacher said we had two weeks off to do this thing.”

“Should we head off right now, then?” Jade asked sheepishly

“I think that would be for the best,” Sara replied.

Knox, Sara, and Jade headed toward the adventure guild, their hearts beating with excitement and anticipation. The group walked through the doors, and their eyes widened as they took in the sight of the bustling lobby.

The air was alive with the sounds of people conversing, weapons rattling, and the occasional monster roar. The receptionist was stationed behind a grand desk, with a line of adventurers waiting patiently for their turn. The trio made their way to the front of the line and were greeted by a warm smile from the receptionist.

“We’re here to sign up for a quest,” Knox said confidently.

The author's narrative has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

The receptionist's eyes lit up with excitement. “Of course! What level would you like to try?” she asked.

“We’d like to try a level 2 quest,” Knox replied.

“Excellent choice. We have a few options available. Let me check the system for you.”

The receptionist looked through a few papers briefly before returning to the trio. “We have a quest available in the nearby forest. It involves hunting down some goblins that have been causing trouble for the locals. Would you be interested in that?” she asked.

The group exchanged glances, their hearts racing with excitement. “That sounds like a good challenge for us,” Sara said.

The receptionist smiled and got them registered for the quest immediately. She handed each of them a stack of papers that they signed quickly while reading through the safety guidelines. The guidelines were thorough, reminding them to stay alert and cautious during their quest and to report any injuries or incidents to the guild immediately.

Feeling prepared and excited, they set off towards the forest, their minds racing with anticipation for the adventure that lay ahead. They could feel the adrenaline coursing through their veins as they took the first steps of their quest.

Knox, Sara, and Jade walked through the dense forest, their senses heightened as they searched for the goblin hideout. They moved in perfect synchrony, their martial arts training coming in handy as they navigated the treacherous terrain.

Suddenly, they heard rustling in the bushes ahead. They quickly readied themselves for battle. Out of the bushes emerged a group of goblins, their beady eyes fixed on the trio. Knox, Sara, and Jade moved in unison, their martial arts skills on full display as they expertly dodged the goblins' attacks and countered with their own.

With each strike, they grew more confident, their movements fluid and precise. They fought tirelessly, determined to emerge victorious. After what felt like hours of intense combat, the last goblin fell to the ground, defeated.

Sara knocked Knox out his system menu, “Hellooo cannn youuu hearrr meee?” She teased him.

“Pft, Of course, I can.”

“Okay, good. I just wanted to tell you I got two level-ups!”

“Me too!” Jade said excitedly.

“Two? I only got one.”

They both started hysterically laughing. “Little Knox did less than two fragile girls!”

Knox clicked his tongue, “Tsk, shut up. Anyway, we should head back.”

They collected the goblin ears as proof of their success and made their way back to the guild to report their completion of the quest. As they walked back to the academy, they couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. Their martial arts training had not only helped them in combat but had also taught them valuable life skills such as discipline, focus, and perseverance.

Knox, Sara, and Jade knew that they still had much to learn, but their success on the quest had shown them that they were capable of anything they set their minds to. They returned to the academy with newfound confidence and determination.
