Chapter 20: The Future Soon

Chapter 20: The Future Soon

14 months before…

“What do you think would look better? This hair?” A female player said. “Or..?”

The player looked into a mirror she turned, changing hairs on her character model until finally, a player held her shoulders, stopping her to look at her reflection. “This one is it!”

“Thanks, Ms.Oege!” The woman said, holding Oege's hand, shaking it graciously.

She then ran out the door, happy as a player could be. In the Fairshine Salon, many players were waiting their turn for Oege. When the next player came to her, she was hesitant but Oege led her to a large red chair. The player sat in, and Oege turned it to face the mirror. “, So what are you looking to do?.”

“I'm looking to change…” the player began and after the player ran out of the Fairshine a new character model. Oege would then take on her net customer until finally, she closed the blind to the window. “Another day, making changes,” He then went to her mirror and looked at herself. Oege had a fair complexion, with long black hair. Her face was made with evident make-up, where even in the game setting where these things could be chosen when you make your character, Oege made an in-game service, where she did player's “make-up”. Oege was a master of Cosmetics. Players far and wide would come to see her, and all were happy with their work. Finally one day a fateful meeting would occur. In came a young-looking girl wearing a goody. Even in games, this sort of aesthetic is very rare. Where most people don't have access to modern gear. Oege knew this player was either lucky or a “whale.” Oege did as she always did. She led the player to her red chair and turned it to face the mirror. “So what are we in for today?” Oege asked.

The player raised her finger to her chin and took her glasses from her face off, handing them to Oege.

“I wish to make these…” The young girl hesitated

“Go on.” Oege insisted. “You don't have to hold back here. Only friends in here.”

“Cyberpunkish.”

Oege thought of her request and understood why she was hesitant. “In this city, the only people who can turn these into cyberpunk gear is…”

“You?” The young girl said.

Oege grinned surprised by her assumption but also curious. “Why would you think that?”

Rather than play dumb the girl finally showed her real personality. “I know you are not only Cyberpunk Class Guide, but…”

Oege became worried. There was something that she was hiding but she couldn't be sure if this young girl knew. She continued to smile, and finally, after a long silence, the girl revealed her thoughts. “Also you are the best Cosmetic in Asper!”

Oege let out a mental sigh. “As they say! Now let's see what I could do for you.”

For glasses to be transformed into the Cyberpunks class change item, they must be given to an Artificer, which was a branch of Blacksmith. Then another player with the Machinist class added wires to the glasses and finally, the final class, the Sav, which was a class that required the Lightning Sage. Finally, the transformed glasses which would be called Ready Player, could be worn and that player would now be a Cyberpunk. Lucky for this player. Oege had all of these feats but for a price.

“For?” Oege said.

The young girl got the gist of Oege's expression. “How about…” while she sends a trade request to Oege showing her 1 million gold.

Hearing the gold put a smile on her face, and it was done. Mandy would receive her class change into a Cyberpunk. After she had received her class change, Mandy came back to see Oege finally able to equip her Digital Goggles.

“Check me out!” Mandy said cunningly. “ She placed her hand on her chin, entering multiple pop star poses. “Yeah, yeah, heh.”

“They look awesome!” Oege said and then went up to her, placing her hand on the side of the goggle. “What does this…”

After poking the goggles, a ray of light scanned in front of her with a ray of light scaling up and down her body. Mandy's goggles would light up and glow and the data would be translated to her.

Oege Level 542 - Cosmetic, Artificer, Lightning Sage, Blacksmith… - Human….

This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

The list would go on and on, and Mandy looked at the data and realized there was a levelling system with them that allowed for more information to be gathered. Right now, she was receiving Surface-level information that you could receive from inspecting a player. Although the amount of accolades that Oege had was impressive. “Level 542 from Just Cosmetics!” Mandy placed her hands over her cheeks!

Oege shrugged from the compliment but looked to the side. “Yeah, it’s been a long time since I’ve picked up a sword.”

Mandy looked puzzled, but her personality could only keep her in that thought for a moment until she finally lost interest in Oege’s stats. “Let’s go blow some things up!”

“I have the perfect spot,” Oege replies and opens a portal. “Go on.”

As Mandy enters she opens her eyes from a bright white flash to a forest of gleaming beauty. “Where are we?” She looks into the sky as it pitches black night, with a Sun hovering in the sky. “Is this a glitch?” She hears the bustling of animals in the forest, but finally a still of silence as the wind winces against her. She realizes she has received a buff. Winds of Gandora. “We’re in Gandora? How?” she thought.

Mandy hadn’t noticed, but Oege had already walked meters ahead. “Hey!” She gestured for her to follow her. “I have a perfect monster for you to test.”

Oege would enter and the sprinter’s stance jolted. “Come on now, it's not too far from here!” Oege winced, and Mandy followed. They would then go through many sights of the region. The Everbloom Falls was a waterfall that flowed plants like water. The Crow-Panda’s Grove is a nest of panda bears that are merged with crows and finally. “Here we are…”

The spot Oege had brought her wasn’t a boss area but a special area for a specific reason. “You see that?” Oege pointed to the sky.

Mandy looked up but didn’t see anything different about the sky. “What? Isn’t that just a sky?”

She was none the wiser, but Oege held her waist, holding a ready stance. “Here it comes…”

Suddenly a large ethereal Wolf came blazing towards them. It created a gust of sand and dust from the impact to the ground which flung Mandy back. When she got up she didn’t see Oege. “She must have been flung away.” She knew that Oege brought her here to defeat this monster for some reason, so she sprung right up. “Time to test these new skills.”

Mandy manifested two pistols from the air. “Awesome,” she said, smiling towards the dust. Just then a mouth of teeth lunged at Mandy, who dodged and began shooting back with her cybernetic pistols. The monster would then jump back dodging each of her attacks. After a set of clashes between the two, the monster stood back as she inspected it. “The Forged, Aur-Alun, Level 600.” Mandy was nowhere close to its level, but she trusted Oege’s direction. “There’s no better test than this huh?”

Manday then manifested a jetpack from her back flew into the sky and continued to fire bolts from her pistol. As it would hit the beast, they seemed to be doing damage, knocking it back ever so slightly. The monster seemed to react in a way as if it knew that She had resorted to a new strategy and began running to her, taking footsteps in the air to where she was.

“How is this-” She grunted as the wolf tail swiped her sending her flying into a nearby wall. As she would take damage, she looked at her health. It wasn’t fatal but it was enough for concern. “I guess these abilities wouldn’t do much.” She then said the main skill she wanted to use. She looked up and noticed Oege sitting on a ledge of a mountain looking down. She waved and placed her hands in front of her mouth. “You got this!”

“With her newfound confidence, she activated the skill, and suddenly manifesting from her body was a mech suit that wrapped around her, like heavy plate armour. “Battle Suit- M4N1A!”

The Cyberpunk class was a combination of Sniper and Warmachine. As the class would focus on range, the Cyberpunk suits were compliments to this feature. The Cyberpunk had 3 archetypes. The P4N!K or Panik, a model that focused on sniping, the TR4NC or Trance, a suit that focused on ricocheting bullets and manoeuvring, and lastly the M4N1A or Mania, which would suit Mandy’s personality the best. All out, guns blazing a storm of bullets. Mandy jumped into the air, manifesting 12 guns, which fired at Aur-Alun. Two of which were rockets, 3 which were Gatling's, 5 which were lasers, and another 2 which were handheld burst pistols. The monster though didn’t react to any damage and kept going towards her. Again with its teeth, it attempted to chunk at her, but she dodged. It then tail swiped and she dodged. “Not bad,” Oege said to herself. It was then that Oege noticed, that when Mandy was in the zone, and focused, she was a high-tier fighter. “Just like her-huh.”

The Aur-Alun would take an insurmountable amount of damage until finally, Mandy had the beast at less than 10% health. “I got you now!”

Suddenly the Aur-Alun began entering a second phase. “Oege, you didn’t tell me about this!” She yelled. Another two Aur-Alun’s came from the sky. They were much bigger, feasting on the Aur-Alun, but its eyes roared black as it jumped and stuck its paws into the two other monsters “What is going on?” Mandy thought. Mandy placed her hands out with her pistols ready to fire until she was surprised by the sound of heavy metal, which sang from the skies. A bolt of lightning struck the Aur-Aluns creating another pan of dust and smoke. It seemed to not only revive, but this time a new monster was formed. Mandy inspected the beast. “You got to be”

A head of a beast lunged again at Mandy, which she dodged, running up its neck towards its back. From the corner of her eyes, another head came to feast on her to which she jumped and evaded. Finally, another head lunged at her which struck her back. As she would take another set of damage, she knew one more attack would end this fight, for her and it. “This is it.”

Mandy and the Monster would face off in their final attacks and after they clashed, from a distance both would begin to fizzle. “You had a great fight,” Mandy said as his battlesuit fizzled, but for the monster. A bolt of lightning struck the floor, and what was left was stone. Mandy had not perished but her battlesuit took enough damage to seize existing it. It was now on cooldown. She walked towards the ore, inspecting it. “Deathmetal Agonyte.”

“You did it!” Oege yelled. She then jumped down for the distance, shaking Mandy. “You did it. You did it!”

She opened up her HUD, to a visual forge. She displayed Mandy a secret recipe for a goggle augment. “Look here.” Oege showed Mandy the requirements. “1000 Deathmetal Agonytes!” Mandy yelled.

“Well since you know now how to kill it, you can farm this to make these!”

As Mandy looked at the goggles, reading the ability it gave. She clenched her fist. “Let’s do this.”

It would be years until finally, Mandy would have enough and each time, Oege was present, sitting on the perch of the boss fight. When finally Mandy had enough resources, she would then receive an in-game achievement, “Aur-Alun Forma,” which gave her another variable augment. “What is this?”

Oege would open the forge and explain. “After defeating 1000 Aur-Alun you not only would have enough materials to forge these goggles, but also…” From there Oege would create the goggles Mandy would play with for a very long time. She would become renowned, creating her guild, and city.

And it was those same goggles that peered into the distance into a guildless character, with a name she would never think would come to take everything away from her. His goggles set an angered teary-eye emoji

“Oege? Is that you? All along. All along. A Borealis member?” There was confusion in her voice but also utter madness. Her eyes sat heavily on Oege.

The character stood firm, on a perch in Matrice. Buildings were damaged, set in flames, set in dismay and chaos. But it had only just begun as she would face Oege, her friend of the past. She then manifested the goggles that Oege had once made her, “The Future Soon.”

She took the equipped Future Soon from her suit and crushed it in her fist.

Mandy would immediately transform into a new battlesuit. She had since evolved it with the Aur-Alun Forma, a version that gave it the immense fortitude of the Aur-Alun deemed the Deathmetal Suit.

She revealed to Oege her new self. Level 700, Trojan.
