“Bullshit you’re from Earth,” I spat out.
“What do you mean, bullshit? Why would I lie about that?” he demanded.
“Summoning an Otherworlder requires twenty-eight highly monitored ingredients. Seven of them aren’t even available for purchase to anyone in the world. Every single mage who knows the ritual is monitored by the kingdom,” I exploded. “So I don’t know why you're lying, but there is no possible way that you were summoned without me knowing.”
“Wait, you were summoned?” he asked.
I struggled to hold myself back. “Obviously! How the hell else would you get here?”
“I just sort of woke up here. A truck hit me while I was crossing the street,” he explained.
“Okay, I’m done with whatever bullshit you’re trying to sell me. Stay away from me and my family,” I started to storm down the hallway.
“What, you can’t just leave! We’re from the same planet, at least hear me out,” he pleaded while following me.
I growled, “I’ve disliked you since you broke into my bedroom holding my daughter. Everything you’ve done since has only helped me hate you more. You want me to listen? Fine. If you can beat me in a fight, I’ll listen to whatever idiocy spews out your mouth.”
“That’s ridiculous,” he argued.
“Well it’s the only deal you’ll get. If you don’t want to fight, then get the hell out of my house,” I retorted.
Finally, he relented, “Alright, sure, I guess. If that’s what it’ll take for you to listen to me.”
“Good. Meet me at the courtyard in twenty. Marem will show you where it is.”
Before he could get another word in, I teleported back to my bedroom. This guy had managed to piss me off so greatly that I struggled to think straight. He annoyed me the second his dumb face broke through my roof, but he has been hard at work making that anger grow.
A part of me thought that he may be telling the truth about being from Earth. Even the King has admitted to me that the magic behind the spell is practically unknown guesswork. So maybe there was another way to bring someone here. It just wouldn’t make sense that he not only knew about Earth, but then proceeded to lie to the only person who could fact check whatever he said.

But in all honesty, I didn’t care. I just wanted to kick his ass. Whether it’s for my roof, for not knowing who I am, for possibly lying about Earth, or for his general appearance. Most importantly, though, it’s for thinking he has the right to marry my daughter.
I struggled to sit still for the twenty minutes before our match. I paced around my room, planning out exactly how I would defeat him. The only thing that made the wait easier was knowing that he must be an anxious mess at the idea of fighting me.
When my timer rang, I teleported myself into the center of the courtyard. The soft grass cushioned my feet, and the trees in the corners peacefully swayed. There were small stone pathways that led to the marble ground in the middle. That is where he stood, with Marem by his side.
I heard the excitement from the crowd start upon my arrival. I looked around to see most of the family had gathered to watch this fight. It was only natural, afterall, I haven’t fought anyone in years. So this was about more than just him, it was a way to show my kids who their father really is.
I strolled up to him, my cape flapped in the wind. “You ready to get your ass kicked?”
Marem had an annoyed look on her face, but Leo spoke up before she complained. “I’m ready to get this over with.”
At least he was aware that the fight wouldn’t last long. But I wouldn’t just let him be humiliated in a few moments, not with what I was planning. I explained to him, “Rules are simple. There’s a barrier around the walls, so we can fight without holding back. First one to forfeit or pass out loses. Got it, or do I need to speak slower?”
“I understand,” he replied.
“Good. Marem, leave the ring,” I ordered.
She started to object, but he began to lead her away. The two of them whispered while on the way to the door, seemingly in an argument. Even if she pleaded for Leo to stop the fight, it was far too late for that. She would be forced to watch me humiliate her fiancé.
We both went onto the opposite sides of the arena. I gripped my blade tightly and steeled myself for our fight. The ability I had planned would not only allow me to go all out, but it would also be perfect for humiliating him.
“Leo, you ready?” I called out.
“Yeah,” he shouted.
That yeah was all the confirmation that I needed to start our fight. I activated my ability, [THIS ISN’T EVEN MY TRUE POWER], and started my dash towards him. I had been slowed down, but he still didn’t have the time to block my first attack.
My sword swung into his side, slashing through the t-shirt he had foolishly chosen to wear in place of armor. Yet, my blade stopped there. I looked down to see my sword had lost momentum once it made contact with him.
What was even stranger was the relaxed look on his face. There was no sense of fear or panic at me connecting an attack. He didn’t just appear unaffected, but it was as if he wasn’t worried whatsoever. For the first time, in a long while, I began to feel concerned.
