Chapter 1.37 - Sam - Victory

Chapter 1.37 - Sam - Victory

The sun had already risen. The clouds started to give way to the morning sunlight. The morning gentle breeze can be felt even when you’re not moving at a fast speed. The flags started to be raised up high in the sky as the wind blows it gently. This could only mean one thing…Victory is in our palm. Just one last spurt and we will end this terrible battle against the corrupted Watchers.

“Begin the advance on the faculty building!” I spread out the order to my generals so that they will tell it to their men and begin the last dance.

I decided that it was time for me to actually lead the battle by preparing myself with a specially made uniform just for me. It was a dark long coat that shows how high I am in the rankings of this battle. As I got out of my camp, someone I know was waiting for me outside. I’m also a Watcher, which means that I also have someone that I’m supposed to watch. This was that person…a lousy and worthless person, I think.

“Hey what’s up, Sam?” It was Azreal Azmuth. One of the boys from the same dorm as Ralph and White.

I sighed and answered him, “I’m feeling great. Thanks for asking, Azreal” Then I asked him, “What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be advancing with the others already?”

He shakes his head and said, “I’m waiting for you of course.”

“Why are you waiting for me? Didn’t I tell you to go out there and fight?”

“Really? I might have forgotten about that, Sam. But it’s better if I’m with you, right? I mean, you are my Watcher.”

“Can we stop with this Watcher thingy…This only exist because of that corrupted Dean of ours.”

“…Can I still help you out?”

I looked at him and sighed, “Fine. Just don’t make a mess out of this, got it?”

“Roger, Field Marshal!”

“Now come. We have a battle we need to win!”

Then suddenly, a messenger was running toward me and told me, “Report!”

“What is it, messenger?”

“The Dean is waiting outside of the faculty building. He has knocked out a bunch of students including the Alliance’s. We are at a stalemate thanks to The Dean.”

“Thank you, now go get some rest.”

“Yes, ma’am.” The messenger went on his way to grab something to eat.

Then, I spoke to myself, “Darn it…The Dean is miles away more powerful than the student that’s for sure. But I thought a single wizard wouldn’t be able to fight against a horde of other wizards. I guess I underestimated The Dean.”

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

Azreal heard me and said, “I think we should step in, Sam. We might be able to do something about this.”

“In the end, it has to be me who had to tie up any loose ends...it’s always like this, huh?”

“Is something wrong, Sam?”

I was out of it for a second until Azreal asked me that, “Yeah. I’m fine, Azreal. Come on, let’s end this.”

We marched on to the battlefield together with my fellow generals by my side. As we were on our way there, a couple of corrupted Watcher tried to attack me but I quickly prevented them by just looking at them and using my Absolute Order ability to them. It stopped them immediately. My generals then quickly captured and tied them up.

Azreal on the other hand were having a hard time trying to drag my personal belongings that I asked him to carry. I still can’t believe that I had to babysit him even in this situation. I took one bag from him and carried it on my own, easing up his duty for a little bit.

Then in a matter of minutes later, I can already see some of my soldiers were sent flying away out of the faculty building area from a distance. Looks like our Dean was having fun toying around with his fellow students. Well…it’s not the real Dean according to Lin. She said that it was a fake puppet made by some higher ups that is not here. The real one was kept locked up with the other lecturers. If that was the case, then we should have no problem fighting against a fake. But I guess, I had to make my hands dirty even on this thing.

“Azreal. My weapon, please.” I dropped my bag and ordered Azreal.

“Here you go, Sam.” Azreal handed me a golden sword that I call, The Absolute Sword.

Its high and mighty name was based on my own ability, Absolute Order. I may be bragging about this but who would even point that out? They won’t because I am Sam. I am the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be. No one can beat me and my absolute orders.

Meanwhile, Azreal brought a weapon of his own from his back. It was a long stick. Pretty dull to be honest. I pointed out how awful and unremarkable it looked.

“What is that thing you brought out?”

“This right here?” Then he flips a switch and the stick transformed.

It wasn’t just an ordinary pole or something. It was actually a portable scythe that he can bring anywhere without having difficulties of moving around. Especially doors, doors will always be the enemy to anyone who’s carrying a long weapon.

“I’m not taking back my words. It still look awful, Azreal.”

“You really love lowering the morale of your men, don’t you think so, Sam?”

“It’s Field Marshal, to you.”

I ignored him and made my way to the fake Dean to see what all the trouble was about. It looks like The Fake Dean was manhandling two students without even touching them. It was one of that elemental energy people call, Force. It’s the very driving force to all of the four main elements. Without force, you can’t move any of the mastered elements. But in my eyes, those are just mere abilities that anyone can learn. I’m way better than that.

I raised my sword to The Fake Dean and instantly, a pile of hot steaming lava begins to make its way to The Dean. He jumped away as he noticed it was coming to him. The other students got away as soon as they realized what was happening. The Dean tried to use the earth to throw me off the ground but I quickly fade away with the help of the hot air that surrounded me. The hot air quickly turned into a mist so wide and thick that nobody was able to see it through. I immediately made quick work out of him by trading blows using my sword to him.

The Dean was able to fight back even in this thick mist but I have something else for him. I surprised him as another version of me just slashed him from the back. It was a mirrored version of me. It can only attack whenever an enemy is near a mirror. He seems to be struggling, he decided that it was best to get out of this place and retreat and prolong this battle. But I’m not going to let that be the case. I tried to use my Absolute Order on him but he immediately breaks it off as expected coming from The Dean. Even if it’s a fake, that is.

I gave chase to him but as we were running all over the thick mist, he threw at me a bunch of elemental magic toward me. But I make quick work of that by cutting off all of his attack with my sword.

“You’re not going anywhere, fake.” I pointed my sword to the fake as it struggles to escape.

I finally threw my sword to him, causing him to fall down to the floor. He then stopped moving after a few seconds. Looks like its finally over. The Fake Dean is dead. I thought it would be hard to defeat him. But a fake is a fake, which means that it is not as strong as the real one. Besides, he just used up a lot of energy fighting against hundreds of other wizards just hours before this. It’s not a fair fight but it is a necessary evil needed to end this battle. I grab my sword and turned away from the corpse. But then suddenly as I was about to return and meet the others, The Fake Dean stood back up and tried to kill me from behind. But I was immediately saved by the nick of time. By whom you say? By Yumiko. Out of all people, it has to be her. She did the killing blow. She even double tapped to make sure this time that The Fake Dean was out. She was ferocious and fearless. She smiled back at me.

I simply said to her, “You win this time, Yumiko. But it won’t be the same next time, I assure you.”

“And I’ll be waiting for that, Sam…” Yumiko simply laughed it off as she searched for something from the fake’s corpse.

“What are you doing?”

“Spoils of war…it’s nothing unusual, Sam. You should know that if you want to be leading an army.”

I snickered at her and turned away from her. Feeling in total disgust at her as I made my way back to the faculty building. I thought I would finally feel victory. But all I get today was defeat. I didn’t expect her to be doing something dirty like that. But it was still my mistake to not check back whether the fake was still alive or not. It was indeed a terrible mistake. A mistake that I won’t make in the future. I promise her that…
