Chapter 1.24 - Shiro - Mindless Watchers

It all happened so fast. I didn’t even understand what was happening. Why the Watcher suddenly attacked every student they see? All of their eyes were glowing purple. We tried to talk it out but they didn’t even respond to our voice. They were like a zombie. Plus, where did all of the lecturers and officers in this academy have gone? Did they have some sort of important meeting outside? This just had to be so inconvenient is it?

“You should take some rest, Shiro.” Blanc was with me.

Out of all the Watchers, she was the only one who wasn’t affected by this strange phenomenon. She founded me when I was surrounded by three other Watchers. I didn’t know if it was the best thing to fight them back because they were all from my class. Who are they? Just some faceless zombies in this part of the story. But I got to give them some credit…

-

It all happened when I just finished with lunch. As I got out of eating lunch at The Pen, I suddenly heard a scream from a distance. I went to where the scream was heard and discovered that a girl was injured by another student. She said it was her Watcher. Being the gentleman I am, I tried to talk it out with the Watcher. But as I already explained earlier, not a single response.

Nothing remarkable out of her Watcher because I immediately went transparent and went through him. Oh yeah, I kind of have the ability of a ghost in case anyone have forgotten about me, Hariken Shiro, the half ghost half human or whatever you want to call me. If you guys don’t know that, at least I reminded you. Anyway, as I finished going through the Watcher, I solidify myself behind him and knocked him out by striking at his neck with my arm. It was a quick blow and nothing else.

“He’s just unconscious. He’ll be fine.” I assured the girl and take my leave.

I thought that was the only thing that happened but when I suddenly arrived near the dorm’s building area. They were all over the place. It was like some sort of huge arrest. Every single Watcher was apprehending the other students. I tried to hide from them as I made my way back to my room but then I was caught by these three nameless Watchers.

“Hey guys, we can talk this out…” I tried to talk it out.

But of course, there was no response.

“Fine then. I guess I just have to hit you hard enough.”

The three of them tried to attack at the same time but all of their attack went through my ghostly body. I countered by doing a sweeping kick to the three of them. I charged up a ball of phantom energy on one of my hand and threw it at the Watchers. I continued to cast more of these phantom balls and threw at them. One of them made an earth wall to defend themselves but that kind of ability was easy enough for me to get through.

I made a ghostly clone of myself; yes I can do this as well. The clone was imperfect. It wasn’t like Yumiko’s clone where you can’t even differentiate between the original one. My version basically has a transparent like body so we can pretty much tell which one was the real me. Anyway, the ghost clone dashes to the earth wall and blew itself up. Yep, the ghost clone self-destruct, destroying the earth wall and opening up an opportunity for me to throw my phantom balls to them.

It was getting good for me but then all of a sudden, one of them got me from behind and captured me. I made myself transparent and escaped from their grasp. But as I just got out of their grasp, I realize that I was finally surrounded by them.

“This isn’t going anywhere, is it? Unless I have to go all out that is…” I jokingly said that as I observed the Watchers.

This story originates from a different website. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

Then in an instance, “Shiro, duck!” A huge blade smashes the ground next to me, making all of the three Watchers fall somehow from the small quake.

It was Blanc. She threw her monster blade. She then went to her struck blade and grab onto it.

“Blanc! You’re alright!”

“Yes I am. Get behind me, now! The whole campus is overrun by the Watchers.”

“And you think I would allow you to beat me? No. I can handle this.”

“No.” Blanc stopped me. “You’re bleeding.”

“What?” I was surprised as I saw that I my stomach was bleeding hard.

Where did that came from? I gave a few second to think about it and remembered when I was ambushed from behind. As I tried to transparent my body, the Watcher manages to slit a portion of my stomach with a knife. I’m starting to lose blood without even noticing it. This is what happens when you’re part ghost and part human. You’ll have a hard time differing between what is pain and what is not.

“Just stay back, for now. These guys are nefarious.”

“You think so?” I stood back up and cracked both of my knuckles.

“I say stay behind. Don’t fight. You are hurt, Shiro.”

“Nope. I am not hurt. This is just a scratch.” I said that as I struggled to stand appropriately.

Blanc sighed and grabbed something from her blade. She grabbed it and pulled it apart. It was some sort of rope. It made a mechanical sound as she pulls it off. The rope pulled back in. She pulled it out once again. The mechanical sound became louder.

“Wait…I thought that your blade is just…a blade…”

“You’re so wrong at that, Shiro.” Blanc smiled as she continues to wind up her blade.

Her blade suddenly had sharp small blades over each edge and all of it began to move in a circular manner. Her Devourer is more than just a mere huge blade. It was also a chainsaw apparently. A devastating devouring monster chainsaw.

“You don’t need to look if you don’t want to…” said Blanc as she looked at the three Watchers.

“Wait…you seriously trying to…”

“I’m sorry…it’s been hundreds of years since I had good raw food. Eating through this blade sucks. I want it raw…”

“Wait, Blanc! No! They are not animals!”

“What are you talking about? There lifeless from the looks of it! It’s fair if I devour them.” Blanc’s single yellow eye was glowing bright.

She’s out of her control. Blanc picks up her steps and ran toward the Watchers. As things were about to get uglier, she suddenly stops. Even the Watchers stopped. I was completely confused at what was happening until she arrived.

“Jeez. At least go and find something better, Blanc. Human meat isn’t that delicious. I’m not saying I know how it taste but…their freaking humans for goodness sake.” It was Sam.

She used her Absolute Order to stop all four of them.

“Sam!” I called her.

She noticed me and replied, “I see you, ghost. Looks like you’re injured.”

As we were conversing, a group of Watcher approaches us.

“I think we should hide for now.” Sam suggested.

“We have to bring her as well. She’s not influenced like the other.” I pleaded for Sam to bring Blanc along.

“Very well. Let’s go.”

We successfully got away from the group of Watchers and went into hiding somewhere inside the campus.

-

And that was how we ended up here inside a store room. Blanc finally calmed down after Sam brought out a pile of double cheese burger from her dimensional bag. She was still eating at this very moment. She’s a monster alright. A monster with a big appetite.

“At least you brought some meat, Sam.”

“It’s not like I came prepared or anything. Those were just the things she ordered when I was out of the campus.”

“Wait…this was all her orders?” My eyes widened as I heard that.

“She did pay for it. So I guess there’s no problem with that.” She shrugged it off. “I can’t believe we’re keeping a monster inside this campus. At least she’s on our side right now.”

Blanc then interrupted and said, “I can control myself.”

Sam then replied, “Yeah, go. Go and tell that to your boyfriend. He was scared as heck when he looked at you.”

Blanc then replied back, “He’s not my boyfriend, Sam.” She then stopped talking and continues to eat.

“I can’t believe I’m surrounded by weird people…” said Sam as she was searching for something.

We managed to survive for now but we can’t say the same to those outside. It was like a huge jail. All of the other students were held captive by the corrupted Watchers. Only the three of us were left free still hiding inside the store room.

“What are we going to do now?” I asked the impossible.

“Look over there…isn’t that our Dean. What is he doing outside?” Blanc noticed something outside.

“Wait what? What is he doing there? And why is his body filled with purple tendrils?”

Sam then concluded and said, “I guess that might be the ‘root’ of the problem right here. We’re going to him then.”

I went to Sam and said, “But there’s only the three of us, Sam.”

“Three of us? What are you talking about?”

Sam smiled and walked to the front door, “I’m talking about them.” Sam opened the store room door and showcased us a platoon of students that was under the influence of Sam’s Absolute Order.

“If we’re going against an army of Watchers of some sort, then we need an army. This is my army. Ready?”

I was nervous at first but then Blanc finished her food and said, “Let’s begin the operation at once. I’ve had my fill of cheeseburgers. Thanks for that, Sam.” she said that as she clicked on something on her blade.

It wasn’t the chainsaw rope. It was a trigger. The blade suddenly transformed into a large gun.

“This is ranged mode. I’ll tell you more on the field, ‘general’.” Blanc said so as she looked at Sam.

Sam nodded and said, “General? Hmm…I like the sound of that…Let’s go!”
