Chapter 1.26 - Ralph - Musically Soothing

Before we continue to where we left of, let me cut the flow of the story by adding this little tidbit that happened a few hours before all of The Watchers went wild. Allow me to reintroduce myself once again, my name is Ralph Clef and I’m a student in Infinity Academy. I’ve taken The Administration Magic class for quite a while now but for some odd reason, I can’t keep up with it. I felt like it wasn’t my subject. I feel like I’ve chosen the wrong subject. So what happened here was that I’m having a hard time trying to catch up in my studies with my fellow classmates. As time passed on, I felt that it was almost time for me to call it quits before the end of the semester. It’s more beneficial if I quit now than it is if I quit, say, on the 4th semester. That would be a waste of my time as well as my family’s time.

So what I did once I decided that I wanted to quit this subject was that I sent in a form along with a letter saying that I wanted to quit to the office counter. It took a while before they finally approved my form. By the time they finally called me back and say I can pack up my stuffs, someone unexpected arrived right by my room.

“Going somewhere?” It was Sam Maximus, the Cardinal for Administration Magic, my former class.

I closed my clothing case and said to her, “Yeah. The laundromat, lots of dirty clothes that needs to be washed.”

Sam tilted her head and said, “That’s odd. I never see someone bring a clothing case to a laundromat. Usually it is either a bucket or something similar. Where are you going, Ralph?”

Sam was intimidating. She knows that I was lying. I wasn’t able to hide the fact that the most obvious thing was right in front of her. Why did I even bother trying to lie to her at that time? I don’t know myself. I’m probably just an idiot.

I slowly sighed and said, “I’m quitting. I already filled out the form and they said I can leave today.”

“And you didn’t even bother to tell me that you’re quitting?” she crossed her arms and lean her back to the wall.

I turned my head down out of guilt. I have nothing else to say but sorry. It’s not that I don’t respect her or anything. In fact, I do respect her. She’s the Cardinal for our class. It is her duty to keep an eye on all of her fellow classmates. She’s practically the leader of the entire batch when you consider the status of the subjects. Administration Magic is considered to be the highest one in the hierarchy among the other three classes.

“What are you good at, Ralph?” Sam suddenly tried to open up a different topic.

I don’t know what her intention was but I simply replied to her, “I can play an acoustic guitar.”

“Well, you’ve been playing that since the first day of class. At least there’s one thing that will make the classroom a whole lot better now that you’re quitting.”

“It’s not like I played a bad tune or anything.”

Sam raised her index finger and said, “No, some of them were focusing and you are disturbing their focus.”

Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

“What are you talking about, Sam? Aren’t music good to be listened during a study session?”

Sam sighed and told me, “I guess you can spin it like that. Fine, that’s the only win you get out of me.”

That was rare. Truly rare indeed. It was a rare occurrence to be seeing Sam giving up to any arguments she got herself into. Usually it’s the other way around. But I guess her defeat was justified because she probably pities me. In other words, she won the entire conversation.

“Playing music is also a part of your magic ability, correct?” Sam asked another question to me.

I always get this kind of question and I will always answer the same way as every single time I was asked. Indeed, my ability is related to music. It is a pretty cool ability. My magic ability is called, “Musically Soothing”. What it means by that is that I’ll be using my acoustic guitar and play a soothing tune that can affect the people who hears it. It depends on what kind of tune I was playing. I can make the listener feel drowsy and sleepy. I can make them become enraged and furious. I also can make them panic and scared. I can even relax and calm them down.

You might think that my ability doesn’t have any form of offense but you’d be wrong. My ability can affect a battle quite tremendously. Additionally, my guitar isn’t just any other guitar. It’s a custom-made guitar that I worked on with my friends back at home. It has a hidden compartment where whenever I activate it; a sharp blade will come out, turning my guitar into a battle axe. I’ve killed a bunch of monsters using that blade. It has been useful to me every time when I’m out in the field with my friends.

“Yeah. It’s an interesting ability, Sam.” I nodded to Sam.

“I see. Can your ability actually control a person?”

“Wait what?” Did I hear that right? I asked her again just to make sure, “What do you mean?”

But Sam was serious, “I mean exactly as I said. Can it control people? Like mine?”

“Well…in theory, yes.” I was very unsure of where this was going but I continued to talk, “But, I can’t say that it’s much stronger than yours.”

“Care to try it out, then?” suggested Sam.

I was confused, “Try it out? To who?”

Sam laughed and said, “Me of course. I want to know what my classmates have always felt when they are under my Absolute Order. I wanted to broaden my horizon.”

“This is oddly unusual coming from you, Sam. Are you sure about this?”

“Don’t worry. Just do it. Plus, you’ll be able to order me around until you’re satisfied. Isn’t that great?”

Order her around…Now that she said that…She has always been the one to force us around with that ability of hers. I’m kind of pissed whenever she forced me to do the things that I never wanted to do. But it was justified because it was a class errand. But still…this was one heck of an occasion that I will definitely never going to have for a long time. I get to order around a beautiful girl like her. I better go all out with my order then.

I grabbed my acoustic guitar and played a mysterious tune. Then I magically fade the tune out into a charming tune. I finish playing the last tune with a strong loud strum. I was closing my eyes throughout the full song. So, as I opened my eyes I see that Sam was standing in an odd manner. I figured that I successfully charmed her with my ability.

“Alright then…you asked for it, Sam. You won’t like this. Do not question on what I’m about to do. Got it, Sam?”

“Yes sir.” She quickly replied.

I laughed and gently moved my hand to her. I moved her a bit and pushed her down to the floor. She fell down very fast, just like a doll. I laughed. But as I was about to grab a part of her body, she suddenly talked,

“I think that’s enough of your perverted desire, Ralph.”

“H-huh…W-what?” But how? I thought I did it. I thought you were under my control. Did it already broke that fast?”

“No, Ralph. You never even manage to hypnotize me. I was acting the whole time.” Sam was serious.

“Unbelievable…” I fell down to my knees in defeat.

Sam stood up and sighed, “Why is it always the same scenario whenever I said that they can ask anything from me. Oh well, you tried to defile me so I guess you deserve to be punished in a way.”

“Fine…go on. Use that ability of yours to me.”

“I’m not using it on you now. I’m actually in a rush right now. I need to go out in a bit and get some lunch at one of those fast food restaurants.” Sam shakes her head and said, “I can’t believe Blanc payed me that much for her food. Where did she have all of the money, anyway…”

I don’t know what she was talking about. I snapped her back into the real world and said, “What do you want from me?”

“I have one request for you.” Sam walks to the window and said, “Come and join us for lunch. It’ll be fun, Ralph. You don’t really need to leave right about now, right?”

That caught me off guard. I never expected she would invite me out to eat lunch together with the others. I guess this is probably one last favour before I’m leaving my class. She probably just wanted to say farewell in a good way. That sounded a lot like her, alright.

“Very well…Wherever you go today, I’ll go. Here we go!”

“Right this way, Ralph…”

-

Basically, that was how I got into this mess. Now I ended up stuck in this revolution. I just don’t get her that much. Hopefully one day, someone can figure out what is inside that brain of hers…
