**Chapter 3: The Encounter**

The man moved cautiously into the depths of the cave, his worn pickaxe in hand and a large hollow piece of stone, shaped into a rudimentary shield, strapped to his arm. The latter, reinforced with pieces of armored rat shell, was heavy but became a valuable protection over the course of the relentless battles. The days gone by had forged his endurance, but this time, curiosity outweighed caution.

He was sinking deeper than usual, drawn in by the cries of monsters and unsettling creaks. These sounds were familiar to him: distressed armored rats. He had learned to recognize the signs of their presence, and an obsessive thought crept into his mind. A whole family of rats, lost and attacked by something more powerful? He was determined to understand what could inflict such devastation.

The man carefully slipped into a narrow passage, his improvised shield ready to protect him. His footsteps were silent, his sharpened instincts ready to react to the slightest danger. When he entered a new chamber, he discovered a scene he could never have imagined.

Before him stood a creature that was half-woman, half-spider. The beast was imposing. His black eyes, streaked with red veins, seemed to emit a sinister glow. Her red pupils shone with a cold and calculating intelligence. Her hair, a bright orange-pink, cascaded in a long mane that partially concealed a generous bosom. The lower part of its body was that of a giant spider, covered in a palette of reds, blacks, and grays, and its eight legs moved with a formidable fluidity.

The creature was devouring a rat's body, the pieces scattering beneath its voracious mandibles. The other armored rats watched, petrified by terror. One of the rats, in a desperate move, escaped towards the place where the man was.

The eyes of the spider-woman fixed on the intruder. The man, although prepared for an attack, was surprised to find that the creature did not move immediately. They stayed there, gazing at each other, each analyzing the other with a silent intensity. The man, seeing the opportunity, decided to strike first.

He lunged at the creature, his pickaxe raised. The spider-woman seemed frightened by the sudden attack, but she quickly retaliated with a roar. Its front legs curved and stretched, launching a quick and dazzling attack. The beast's sharp claws brushed the ground with a sinister sound as it sought to strike the man head-on. The man skillfully dodged, moving sideways to avoid the fatal blow.

In a counterattack, he swung his pickaxe with force, slicing one of the creature's legs. A sharp cry of pain escaped from the beast, and it staggered slightly from the blow. The man, galvanized by this first success, continued his assault. He struck with precision, his movements fluid and determined, evading the quick and violent counterattacks of the spider-woman.

The creature, despite the pain, was resilient. Its remaining legs were flailing with disconcerting speed. She launched an attack with her remaining claws, aiming for the man's head and chest. The clash of the attacks echoed in the cave, the blows colliding with devastating force. The man moved with agility, his pickaxe making wide movements to fend off the attacks. At one point, the spider-woman managed to strike the man's shield with such force that a shard of stone flew into pieces.

In a surge of vengeance, the creature delivered a powerful blow, its claws piercing the shield with alarming ease. Suddenly, the man's pickaxe broke, the metal shattering into fragments in the cave. Now disarmed, the man found himself with only his cracked shield to defend himself. "What an idea to go into battle with a pickaxe!" exclaimed the man.The repeated blows of the creature were carving deep cracks into the stone, threatening to completely shatter the protection.

The man, cornered and exhausted, knew that every movement had to be calculated carefully. His determination was his only asset against a formidable opponent who sought to finish him off. Every strike from the creature, every movement of its legs was a deadly threat, and he had to do everything to survive.
