Chapter 24: A Big Catch for a Big Stomach

Chapter 24: A Big Catch for a Big Stomach

Back at the main police station, Inspector Drick addressed his team, frustration evident in his voice. "We have lost the beast, and it is smarter than we think. The smell of the wolf bothered the dogs, and some were injured during the hunt. It's not going anywhere. But some witnesses told us that a gigantic snake wanders in the northern forest near the lakes. He must have a GPS to get to the worst area we can find. All this is wilder and full of hiding places. At this rate, even with the best of the Rangers, we won't find anything. That's all I had to say." He concluded, bidding goodbye to his subordinates.

In the morning, as the forest awoke, the wolves began their daily activities. Mothers and young females tended to their puppies, while orphans received care from other wolves. Older members of the pack helped teach the young ones to hunt, while others embarked on solo or group hunting missions. Each wolf had a role and responsibility within the community, ensuring the pack's survival and well-being.

The dragon, now a part of this intricate web of life, couldn't help but appreciate the sense of warmth and family among the wolves. It marveled at their happiness and camaraderie, finding itself somewhat envious of their simple yet fulfilling existence. It was a stark contrast to the complexities of the human world it had left behind, and it began to understand the wisdom in the saying, "If you want to live long, never try to wake a sleeping dragon."

However, that morning, the dragon awoke with an uncharacteristic anger. "What? Is it ready?" it wondered aloud, its instincts still playing tricks on its newly acquired animal self.

Suppressing the urge to check its tablet or listen to the radio news, the dragon reminded itself to restrain its human habits in the presence of its wolf companions. Despite the occasional frustration, the dragon had come to appreciate its newfound connection with these creatures.

As it ruminated on its current situation, the dragon's thoughts inevitably drifted to its previous life as a Pokémon Trainer. It couldn't help but recall the voice of OCTAHEDRON, the enigmatic entity responsible for its transformation.

"THE RESEARCH ON POKEBALL IS COMPLETE," echoed OCTAHEDRON's voice in the dragon's mind.

The dragon let out a sarcastic laugh. "Nonoooooooooooooo! That's not true. I am now a Pokémon Dragon Trainer!" it exclaimed, the irony of the situation not lost on it. "Catch them all!" it muttered with a wry smile.

The alpha wolf interrupted its musings, reminding the dragon of the task at hand. "It's for today or tomorrow? Let's go now!" it urged, and the dragon nodded in agreement.

After an hour of running through the dense forest, the alpha signaled for the pack to stop and pointed its snout toward a group of deer numbering around 15. The deer were peacefully grazing on the grass when two of them suddenly looked in their direction.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

The dragon wasted no time. With rain beginning to fall, it took to the sky, surprising the friendly wolves. The dragon gestured for them to stay back, and they understood, retreating to a safe distance. Then, with a deafening roar, the dragon descended upon the deer herd.

The deer, startled by the appearance of this formidable predator, gathered in fear. The dragon opened its massive maw, and lightning crackled through the darkening sky. Electricity surged from the dragon's jaws, striking as close as possible to the deer.

The electric shock coursed through the ground, reaching each deer in the herd, their hearts stopping instantly as they fell, lifeless. It was a swift and efficient end, a single blow that left no room for suffering.

The wolves, who had witnessed this awe-inspiring display, cowered in fear. Even the alpha wolf, once confident and assertive, now pleaded, "Have mercy, Lord of Heaven. We have been rude to you. Kill me and take my place, and may my sacrifice appease your anger against us."

Another wolf joined in, "Please, take my life but spare the others," and they began to whine in unison, seemingly in competition to express their remorse.

The dragon, realizing the wolves were taking the situation seriously, responded with a hint of humor, "If you have a whining contest, I'll win because I lost my manhood."

The wolves, however, were genuinely surprised. "Are you a Mademoiselle? Miss Dragon?" one of them asked, intrigued by the dragon's revelation.

The dragon nodded and couldn't help but shed a few tears. "I learned it yesterday. I am now a girl," it confessed, its eyes brimming with emotion.

In a heartwarming display of understanding and compassion, all the wolves rushed to comfort the dragon. They nuzzled and pampered its neck, offering their support and friendship. It was the solace the dragon needed, and it hugged the wolves with its winged arms, careful not to hurt them. "Thank you, my friends. Thank you," it whispered, its gratitude overflowing.

The wolves exchanged knowing glances and silently agreed to welcome the dragon into their pack as if it were family. "How do we transport all this meat?" the alpha wolf inquired.

The dragon offered a solution. "I'll try to carry some by flying, making 3-4 trips if you can help transport some as well."

"STOP," the dragon suddenly exclaimed, a new idea forming in its mind. "I have an idea to reduce the weight. I'll skin them as humans do."

The wolves were curious. "Why?" one of them asked.

"Because it will reduce the weight by half, and the meat will stay and taste better when the deer carcass is emptied," the dragon explained.

With the wolves' agreement, the dragon set to work, demonstrating its knowledge of how to properly skin the deer. It highlighted areas where there was no meat, such as the head and horns, and how to remove the stomach to empty the carcass. The wolves watched and learned as the dragon skillfully prepared the game for transport.

"What are you doing with the skin?" one of the youngest wolves asked.

The dragon replied, "You chew it to extract the juice, and you can make leather out of it."

The youngest wolf was curious about the purpose of leather. "What is the purpose of leather?" it asked.

"Leather can be used to make a comfortable nest," the dragon explained, "and you can put heavy prey in it and pull it to your den."

The wolves marveled at the dragon's knowledge, and one of them concluded, "She has a good heart. We must help her and treat her like family."

The alpha wolf nodded in agreement, cementing the newfound bond between the dragon and the wolf pack.

With the meat prepared and ready for transport, the wolves and the dragon faced the prospect of bringing their bountiful catch back to their lair. The wolves couldn't help but drool in anticipation of their feast, their eyes locked onto the dragon's impressive haul.

It was a day of unexpected alliances, surprising revelations, and a growing sense of camaraderie among the most unlikely of companions.
