"Eiw tneb u ho remrehcsreb?"
"Tneb u nav ekjileddog tsmokfa!!!"
I think they’re trying to ask me something, but I don’t understand a single word they’re speaking.
“Are you asking who I am?” I asked before I realized that they wouldn’t understand me either.
As this was the first time trying to speak in my new body, I accidentally spoke way too loudly, well at the level I was doing it was closer to screaming than speaking. This understandably scared the sh*t out of most of them, a lot of them covered their ears and hid and some even started running away, but one of them had a very different response, he quickly went to sit on his knees and bowed as far as his back would allow, pressing his almost bald head against the gravel of what I guessed was the main road of the village, as it was the only paved road I could see. Seeing this, other villagers were now started gathering around the first man bowing they’re heads as some sort of sign of peace, respect or maybe even that of aggression, I couldn’t be curtain because the people of this world might have different body language.
This didn’t seem the case though as even the ones that had run before were now bowing and some left and came back with what I presume to be offerings or something.
a black haired, slightly tan women made a gesture were she brought her hand to her mouth like she was eating, but seeing as the only resemblance of a mouth I have is an empty spot on my lower face with nothing but two parallel lines of lights that glow when I try to open what my mouth ones was, I declined the offer by shaking my head, she seemed to understand this as she now looked a bit sad which in turn made me feel bad for insulting her.
Then one of them spoke again “o diehkjileddog, moraaw tneb u reih?”
From their tone I could understand this was a question, but I did not understand a single thing he said, so all I did was tilt my head slightly to the right hoping this would convey the message that I didn’t understand them.
I guess they didn’t notice that I didn’t understand them earlier either, as this seemed to fascinate them instantly, they immediately went to show me some everyday objects or pointed at themselves and then said something. One of them pointed at a spoon and said “lepel” then when I repeated the word back to them, they would cheer like I was the world's biggest infant learning his first words.
This went on for like an hour and was extremely annoying and kind off made me want to leave them, but then I noticed that I remembered every word they had said, my robotic memory could remember everything after just one repetition, if only I had this power in school, so many hours would have been saved...
With this combined with the sheer number of things they had shown me and named in the last hour, gave me the ability to sort off understand what they were saying sometimes,
“eiw si he”, “he looks re tlaawdrev tiu” and “he tfeoh tein et eat” this is all I could decipher from what I knew right now, but that’s more than what I could have if I hadn’t met them, so to thank them I helped them repair their gate and part of their wall that were broken by the monster instead of just leaving. All while building, they taught me new words and as the evening approached, we finished the repair job on the wall and gate. as I got up to leave this degrading town, I asked them one more question “what that?” While pointing at the carcass of the beast I slew, the expressions on their faces quickly turned sour as they remembered the traumatizing scene from earlier today, one of the more elderly villagers slowly rose from his seated position and answered “NOMED!” ...
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
As I left the village I learned was named “an ed greb” which means “past the mountain” I had two questions, one: what were these beasts named “Nomed” and why were they attacking this town? And the second one (which was much more important): did it just use magic!?
I mean I turned into a giant robot when I got to this world, but actual magic!!! When I was little I would read these comic books which would always have those protagonists that would like, try to visualize a spell and then it would manifest, and me being an impressionable 9-year-old wanted to do that as well, so I would stand in the small alleyway between my house and that of the neighbors, and try to focus on getting Something or Anything to appear, this never happened though and once I turned 12 I had completely given up on my dream of magic. So now getting the chance to fulfill that childhood dream was the chance of a lifetime.
So ones once I was far enough away from the village that I was sure no one would see me if I failed, I lifted my hand, pointed the palm of my hand strait up and focused on it, letting all feeling of my surroundings go, once my focus was perfect I tried imagining a pool or tank of something inside of me, and as I then imagined this tank letting a bit of its liquid flow from my heart through my arteries, all the way to my fingertips, there I imagined it gathering a meter above my hand and forming a small sphere that I ignited, forming a small ball of flames barely big enough to warm my cold metal body, but as I opened my eyes I saw nothing, all that had happed is that the time of day had changed, before I had started I was standing I a cold dark forest, but no it felt like a hot sunny day in the middle of summer, and when I looked up I noticed why, I did not do the whole one meter above my hand part quite right, neither did part of “small ball of flames barely big enough to warm my cold metal body” go correctly.
I was now standing beneath a ball of flames the size of the small village I had just left (about fifty meter in diameter), this was a massive problem as did not know how to reabsorb it. I could just let it go, but then it might just fall and start a forest fire, I could throw it, but God knows where it would land! In my panic I thought of something I'd learned in the small school made of metal and plastic scraps in one of the lower parts of the titan city (cities the size countries that dotted the many worlds of the Terran-Governance) I used to live, this was filthy and constantly looked like it was going to collapse and crush everyone inside, it was there I first learned of the small particles that make up this world and it’s interactions, I learned that particles that are “hot” are just vibrating quicker than those we see as cold, so what I did was imagine slowing down the quickly vibrating particles down to the speed of those outside the fireball, but I had also learned that energy can't be created or destroyed, but that it can change shapes, so I imagined using the stored energy from the slowed particles to create a substance that was basically pure energy, that by imagining that flowing back through my veins to my heart and back into the pool.
When I looked back up the ball of flames was gone and a familiar voice spoke to me,
*New skill: reabsorb* it said with its robotic voice.
