Chapter 24

There were a lot of moving parts to the world he was in. With the dungeon alone, he now had a side quest to find every element. He had to feed the core and choose a guardian for each floor. To get to his next floor, he had to sacrifice materials and he wasn’t sure if the dungeon had specific requests or if it would just take whatever he gave it as long as it had enough energy. Knowing himself, he’d make it a point to only feed his dungeon the best of the best.

That meant he’d have to go on adventures. The official ones so that he could unlock themes for new floors, yes, but also ones on the floors of the tower. He was sure that there were tons of resources to be found if he just bothered to look for them, but how much time should he really spend on each floor? On top of that, he had to take promotion exams. That wasn’t even taking into account the fact that he had to manage his actual summons, including his relationships with them and their growth, but his own strength as well so he didn’t die on the adventures he went on to make his dungeon stronger.

And he had already gotten himself wrapped up in the greater politics of the Tower?! He hoped that Rea and Nykal were just from the same floor, so he didn’t have to deal with some mess involving groups strong enough to function across the floors of the Tower, but he doubted he’d be so lucky.

At least he had some advantages. Every second he spent outside of his dungeon was god knows how long they had inside the dungeon to grow, and the Amonians grew well.

Maybe I don’t even have to summon them. Maybe I can just bring them outside of the dungeon the same way I should be able to bring an item?

‘Bzzt! Wrong!’

He sucked his teeth at the System mocking him.

I knew I wasn’t crazy. You’re really listening to everything, right? Give me a quest so I can give you something interesting to eavesdrop on.

“Lord Amon, are you okay?” asked Seru, who was sitting previously silently on the bed across from his.

“Yeah, what do you wanna do? Our options are to go explore this floor, or take the promotion exam to get to the second floor. We can’t use the ticket Rea gave us and go on a new adventure until we move up to the next floor.”

She didn’t respond immediately, which was probably a good thing. While she weighed the options, he spent the rest of his DP on summoning the Blue Moon Wolf.

He wasn’t as huge as he was at first, but the wolf was still easily twice the size of Amon. Amon was prepared to be a little physical to properly train the wolf, but as soon as the summoning was complete and all the light vanished, the menacing beast pounced Amon.

The bed buckled under the weight as the wolf playfully licked Amon’s face. He wasn’t sure what changed between the wolf entering the summon dimension and now, but it was apparently much more domesticated. His loyalty even maxed out at A!

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

“I need you to get smaller,” he said sternly, even though he was happy to play with his new companion. Once the Blue Moon Wolf was about the size of a puppy, he felt much better. “Let’s keep it simple and name you Blue. When we’re in safe spaces, I want you to be this size.”

He received a knowing bark in response and returned his attention to Seru while he pet his new friend.

“Let’s explore this floor, so Blue can get some levels before we move onto the next floor and adventure.”

“Sounds good,” he affirmed, but he wasn’t exactly sure how to start an adventure on his own. This world was almost entirely foreign, and he could only travel at night so that he didn’t run into those Tanis.

Maybe they’re more concentrated in the city. Plus, they were attacking from above. They’ll have less vantage points if I leave the city.

He wanted to get Blue some equipment, but he was flat broke so there was no point in thinking about it too heavily. Maybe he could get a side quest?

He pushed the puppy off of him and walked to the other side of the room. He looked out the window of his hotel room and watched the people on the streets, bustling through the night. This world was a little different from what he would consider fluid game design. Normally, there’d be some kind of shopkeep or guard or something that was available for players to receive quests from, but damn near everything was completely automated.

Was there a training ground of some kind? Since this was the starter town, there had to be some kind of hidden secrets that would give people huge boosts in their development speed. Otherwise powerful people like the red-armored Nykal wouldn’t be walking the streets.

That guy sticks out like a period stain.

He watched the other man from his room. Rea was probably stronger than Nykal, but he wasn’t what Amon would call a pushover. Even from a distance, he could tell that there was some kind of power in the air around the man. Whether it was his power or the power of whoever supported him was up for debate, but there had to have been a reason that around a dozen or so capable looking people followed Nykal.

What does he need such a large party for?

He had a big decision to make. He could either make it a point to create as much distance between himself and the white haired man as possible, or he could make contact. Should he let go of what happened? It wasn’t the biggest deal in the world, and he’d already put on a show for the crowd, so maybe bygones could be bygones?

He opened up his window and focused some mana on the tip of his index finger. His spellslinger skill was useful because it was really only limited by his creativity and his ability to control the mana. This wasn’t a hard spell though.

The instructions were simple: track the target. A minuscule amount of mana left his body and darted toward the group. He wanted to track Nykal personally, but he missed and ended up hitting one of his followers in the back of the neck. They rubbed themselves as if they felt an itch, but they didn’t seem alerted.

It would only last for a few hours so he had to hope that they would do something interesting within that time period.

He closed his window again and sat back on the bed.

I should develop a better tracking skill. One that gives me visuals and audio.
