Their base, like all the others, was a square room with one door to get in and out of. Theirs was on the first floor of a random building in the city, but there were other bases all throughout the city. Some were in the middle of skyscrapers, others were standalone buildings.
As soon as the round started, Rea and Seru began their assault and left him alone to defend their crystal. His eyes were fixed loosely on the moonlight coming through the doorway, but he wasn’t paying full attention. He tugged on the sleeve of his hoodie, slightly distressed by the fact that he hadn’t bathed in days. When he got the opportunity, he planned to get some new clothes and take the hottest shower he could manage. His clothes were still in great condition since Mother restored them before he left and he hadn’t done any fighting since the Tutorial started, but he still didn’t like how long he had been wearing them.
He needed to get some clothes that matched the aesthetic he was going for. A black cloak would be best, so he could conceal his identity and have it flutter majestically in the wind behind him. He smiled to himself as he imagined a future where he was powerful and enigmatic.
He crossed his arms and huffed slightly. He should have learned earth magic during his training so that he could craft himself a chair. He was going to need furniture in his dungeon for himself at the very least, right?
He had a bright idea. All of the Fyn that he had was removed from his inventory and coated in his mana, then he focused on flattening the metal’s shape so that it made a seat for him. Then, it was simple for him to suspend it in the air behind him so he could sit on it. This was barely a drain on his mana since he recovered it quickly.
This is perfect. I get to practice mana control and relax at the same time. Plus, if I get attacked, I already have my weapon out too. Nobody would even expect this chair to be a weapon.
Since this was training for his finer mana control, he made the seat something like a tempurpedic mattress. He shifted the shape and density of the metal to maximize his own comfort as best as he could.
Yeah, this is the best… His eyes started to get heavier and he noticed that he hadn’t had any decent sleep in quite some time. His body was fine, but his mind needed rest. His blinks took longer and longer to complete, but he knew he had to stay awake for this competition. He chose to take one more long blink and wake himself up.
Once the blink was over, he opened his eyes and stood up to stretch. As soon as he did so, a spear made of pure mana struck the chair he had been in and dispersed. The sudden impact scared him so he look at his surroundings.
The entire building had been destroyed, yet there was no sign of rubble. The crystal had become shinier and larger, making it an easier target. He reasoned that this meant Seru and Rea had earned them quite a few points.
Outside of what was once his base stood four figures. A human male with a tome in the back, an elven man with a staff in the middle, and two elven women both armed with a sword and shield combo.
The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
“It was smart of you to wait for me, Zeke. He’s definitely a powerful opponent, but I’ll handle this with my summons, so just focus on healing me.” said the elf man.
“I knew he must have been extremely strong if he could sleep in such a tense situation. I wasn’t confident in calling his bluff and I’m glad I didn’t do it. He would’ve killed me…”
Man, I must’ve been sleep for a long time if he called backup and waited for it. The sun’s even up now.
He wasn’t in a rush to start the fight. He chose to stay as close to the crystal as he could since protecting it was his number one priority. If so much time had passed, it was likely that the match would be over soon. So, he didn’t have to win against these four opponents, he just couldn’t lose.
When he checked their statuses, he found that it was only the men that were Players. The two women were both summons of the rare rank, but he couldn’t see anything like any of their levels or stats.
Both of the women started the assault in sync. The first elf was blonde, the second was brunette. The blonde, with her sword in her right and her shield in her left hand, ducked low in her dash towards him and came from below with an upwards stab at Amon’s torso.
As he materialized his blade from his inventory he swung it in his own right hand while pivoting on his right foot so that he could deflect the blade and the swordswoman to his left. He met no resistance, but that was only because the brunette had jumped into the air and used the blonde’s shield as a platform to further launch herself directly at the crystal.
He didn’t panic. She was in the air, so she couldn’t suddenly change her trajectory; making her a sitting duck. Or, well, a duck whose movement path was easily calculated. He shot the Fyn that was still suspended in the air at where she was heading. His aim was to make a hole clean through her body with one blow, but the blonde called out to her partner and alerted her of the incoming attack.
The brunette spun in the air to intercept the projectile with her shield, sending her flying severely off path and away from the crystal, but not killing her. Now, both girls were on either side of the crystal, and he had to focus on them at the same time. Not only that, but his back was to the two other men.
The brunette rose and he dislodged the metal from her shield, separating it into five decently sized shards to be used as projectiles that hovered about midway between the crystal and the elf.
The blonde came to a sliding halt and repositioned herself to dash forward once again, this time at the crystal. Amon knew he was in the corner of her eye so he made sure his movements were wide and seen as he threw his sword to intercept her in her path. As he expected, she blocked it with her shield, which knocked her off course much as it had her companion. The only difference was, this time, he shot a mana bullet at wherever she would end up. The attack hit her on her shoulder, and the brunette finally rushed in.
She had been wary of the Fyn so she hadn’t moved much, but seeing her partner in danger apparently stirred her into action. Obviously, he wasn’t going to let her do as she pleased. He willed the Fyn to rush in at once. Three were aimed at different parts of her body, while the remaining two would rush to the space to her immediate left and right to catch her whichever way she tried to dodge.
He looked back to the blonde and took a step forward to keep the pressure on her, launching another mana bullet in the midst of his dash. While the bullet made contact with her shield, he found himself on the floor.
Electricity coursed through his veins, causing him to grit his teeth to avoid screaming. He was so focused on the vanguard that he forgot about the rear, which resulted in the elf man having enough time to execute a successful attack.
“If you don’t want another heavenly bolt from the avatar of the divine thunder spirit, I suggest you give in. Next time I will aim to kill you.”
