Chapter 13.5 (Seru’s Diary)

Seru’s Diary

Lord Amon’s moments with me are precious memories that I never intend to forget. Nevertheless, anything could possibly happen in the future so it would be reckless of me to not keep a safe record of everything so that I can rest assured that even if some unforeseen circumstances robbed me of my greatest treasure I could still reclaim it.

My time with the blue moon goblins was stressful. I desperately wished to free my people from the oppression we were faced with, but my dreams were nothing once I realized I didn’t possess the power to actualize them. Faced with my own ineptitude, I found myself lost in despair. I had resigned myself to my fate and accepted that it was my own fault that I was to be sacrificed.

I was at my lowest point.

That was when I first saw him.

“Do you wish to be rescued?”

Those were the first words he said to me. At first, I was confused. Nobody had ever asked me what I wanted to do. It was always:

“Seru, do this.”

“Seru, don’t do that.”

“Seru, you can’t kill everyone that annoys you.”

“Seru, stop killing blue moon goblins you find alone.”

He spoke life into me with those words. I did wish to be rescued, I wanted to be saved from the abyss.

I nodded with determination. He released me from my bondage and gave me a weapon. I was honored to be armed. I felt as though he saw me as a warrior, even if I’d lost a fight. I wondered if he wanted me to rescue myself.

When we made it outside and I saw the state of the village, though, I knew that wasn’t the case. He was the savior. I’d struggled against one of the elite guards, but he’d managed to set the entire village ablaze and critically wound the chief? It didn’t even look like he had been in battle yet!

He was amazing.

I watched him make quick work of the remaining enemies and, in those moments where blood and smoke filled the cold air of the night, I realized something.

Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

I’d found someone to admire.

I’d found my hero.

I begged him to take me as his student and he agreed with a nod as we returned to my village.

When we arrived I took my time to say my farewells to everyone. It was a somber experience, leaving everyone I held near and dear to my heart, but I had to do it to grow stronger. I promised I’d be back one day, and my mother sent me off with supplies, a note from the elder, and a silver bracelet with a purple stone in it.

I followed Lord Amon to a cave. It wasn’t an easy task at all. As soon as we left my village, my training began. Following him through the trees was challenging and I’d spent my entire life hunting in the forest. He made it look so effortless for him. His breathing never hastened, his expression never faltered.

Lord Amon is someone of few words. I learned that when I tried to praise him for seeing through a fake wall and he remained silent. I also learned that he preferred my silence as well. It wasn’t going to be easy, but I resolved myself to speaking less for my training. I was sure he had a reason.

We walked through the cave and I saw something any of my kind would die to see. Our Goddess, our Great Mother, sitting peacefully under a waterfall. I fainted on sight.

When I regained my consciousness I saw something that changed me. Lord Amon was beaten and bloodied, and the Blue Moon Wolf was to blame.

I was filled with rage. I’d left my home and put my future in the hands of Lord Amon. I’d committed to betting everything on him, and that mutt dared to take him from me? I couldn’t afford that.

My body reacted before I knew it, but no amount of anger could bridge the gap in our levels of strength. I was killed immediately.

I came back to life with a start. I looked around and found myself alone with the wolf and the Great Mother, my Lord’s body nowhere to be found.

I scrambled into a bowing position.

“Great Mother, where is my Sensei?”

Her mighty voice flooded my mind. She explained my impudence to me, that I was not to address her son with such a title. He was a Lord, and he was safe. She also told me that, if I were to follow him, I would need to be stronger.

So that’s what I did.

The training was tough at first. I was able to conquer my fear easily, but I did not have the physical capabilities to match my opponent. But, as I watched Lord Amon grow and received guidance from the Great Mother, I found my strength bolstering.

Towards the end of our training, around the last time Lord Amon took a break before finally killing the wolf, the Great Mother bestowed a blessing upon the bracelet that my mother gave me.

It filled me with joy to be accepted by her.

What brought me the most happiness was seeing Lord Amon grow. He was already a star, but he dazzled more and more as time passed. I knew that his strength was something more than fleshly. He was going to be a God one day, and I was going to be his most loyal supporter.

When our training was done, we left. It felt odd once we transitioned over, everything went black for me. A moment later, I was in a void with the wolf, standing on absolutely nothing. There was no up or down in this space, but I was fully conscious at least.

I took the time to practice my sword skills. I had no idea how long it would be until Lord Amon was able to summon me, but I knew it was coming. It was only a matter of time, so I had to remain ready.

Not long after I began I was consumed by a golden light. I was summoned onto a cloud and I immediately thanked him for summoning me. I was filled with happiness, but I kept my composure on the outside as I’m sure he wanted.

He gave me a task and I set off to complete it. Defeating enemies was the perfect job for me. Any job he gave me would have been perfect, but I took pride in knowing I could be my Lord’s blade. He didn’t need to spend his precious time and energy on such menial foes.

I wanted to prove to him that I could properly do this and he could rely on me. I had to prove myself to him.
