We knew what we want to achieve in Selem and it was to stop harassment from guards. We also know the root of the problem. Captain Meka, brother of Head Captain Turiel. While Head Captain isn’t that bad he lets Meka’s bad decisions slide. He probably doesn’t even know what his brother is really up to.
[ Eric ]
“So Turiel isn’t bad?”
[ Dian ]
“He is a decent man. Maybe his brother lies about the things he does.”
[ Eric ]
“So we need to somehow show his true side to his brother.”
[ Dian ]
“That might work… But how do we do it?”
[ Eric ]
“You told me that he does those illegal trades. Maybe we could somehow drag Turiel to that trade?”
[ Dian ]
“But we don’t know when or where that could happen. I was just walking around when I found them.”
[ Eric ]
“I might have a way to gather the information…” I said as I looked out of the window.
While Dian was training in the forest I asked Stella for help and she gladly did it. I needed to gather some seeds. I didn’t know the plants in Midgard but most of them were familiar to me. If we are lucky we might find sunflowers with seeds even in the middle of fall. My plan is to finally use that new spell. It lets me see from the eyes of animals that consider me friendly. Birds definitely fly around the town so I might find something by using them.
After an hour of searching, we found nothing. No seeds, and no sunflowers in the forest. Or we’re too stupid to look for them. I was exhausted because of that. I sat under a tree to take a break. Stella was raiding Skyge this whole time so she wasn’t exhausted at all. Maybe I’ll take a short nap. There is nothing wrong with that. I closed my eyes and relaxed…
*BONK*
Something hit me in the head. When I looked around I noticed a brown thing on the ground. When I picked it up I knew what it was. I found a walnut tree and birds like nuts. After all, this hour of walking was worth it. Now I need to tame them somehow…
I had one idea and it would take three days or more. I don’t want to keep Tae waiting but I can’t be rash. First I would need to gather as many nuts as I could. I grabbed a few buckets from Dian’s house and placed them under the tree. Then I climbed it and tear the branches to make the nuts fall from them. I got almost all buckets full and there was still more on this tree.
I also came up with another brilliant idea, where to feed them. There weren’t many trees around Dian’s house so I wanted to use one tree trunk as a feeder that birds would get familiar with. I didn’t want to cut the tree myself so I used Dian for it. Once I told him that it was part of his training he gladly did it. While he was doing it I got this weird sense of deja vu…

What could be the hardest part of this plan? Getting the trust of the birds? Being patient? Or just luck of them coming for the nuts? No… The hardest part was to keep Skyge away from them. He has a tendency to chase the birds that I discovered just now.
When he scared them for the first time I was worried that the birds wouldn’t show up because of Skyge. An hour passed then two or three. When I was losing hope for this place two birds came. I watched them eat while I kept Skyge close to me with my hand on his snout so he wouldn’t bark and scare the birds. More and more birds came by and ate. So many that they ate a whole bucket.
The next day I placed more nuts and this time I sat a few meters away from the tree trunk. I wanted the birds to see me and notice that I’m not aggressive toward them. At first, they were hesitant but they couldn’t resist the free food right in front of them.
When the nuts were slowly running out I replenished them in front of the birds with my hands and slowly to not scare them. If I would be lucky maybe some of them wouldn’t fly away but I could only wish for that.

“I did it…” I whispered with excitement once a bird didn’t fly away and even ate from my hand. It hurt a bit but I couldn’t make any rash movement or else I would scare the bird.
Now I had to try to see if that was enough to use my spell. I placed my left hand on my eye and when I closed it I could see my legs and my hand. I could see from this bird's eyes! It works! It only took me two days but I can use that spell now! Once the bird was full it flew away.
Before going to sleep I checked the spell and I was right. The bird was on the roof of the house in town looking at the port. Since it was late, not many people were outside except guards of course. If I put that spell on more birds I can monitor the whole town! This spell is more powerful than I thought…
After two days I had put my spell on around seventy birds. I had an eye on the whole town. I could see everything from the port to the walls. Now we have to somehow show the truth about Captain Meka to his brother. I and Dian went to the town. We followed any suspicious movement of guards. While I can use bird's eyes I can’t hear what they are saying.
At the same time, I was watching them and hiding so they wouldn’t pursue us again. For this whole time, I also knew where Head Captain Turiel is. He was in the barracks near the port and that’s where we were looking.
[ Dian ]
“So you’re telling me that you can see everything?”
[ Eric ]
“Almost everything. Where the birds look, I see.”
[ Dian ]
“So are you seeing this?” Said Dian as he walked behind me doing some weird hand signs.
[ Eric ]
“Of course, I can see you doing an idiot of yourself.”
[ Dian ]
“Hey! I was just testing you!”
[ Eric ]
“Turn right. Someone is following us.”
[ Dian ]
“Where?” Said Dian as he looked behind in search of that person.
[ Eric ]
“Don’t look back. It’s better if he thinks we didn’t notice him.”
[ Dian ]
“Sure thing boss.”
We took the first corner to the right and hid. As expected the man that was following us also took the corner and that’s where I surprised him. I grabbed him by the neck and threw him to the ground. I put one hand on his mouth and a knife to his throat.
[ Eric ]
“You scream you die. Got it?” I said with cold blood to fool this guy.
