24: Attunement

The next day’s lesson was a real surprise

Everyone went to class wand was certain it would be another long lecture on stuff that would really shock them in one subject. This was the 5th day, and in a few more they would be able to visit the town to try to get followers. Well, that and to see what was available there.

However, Felinia looked at them and smiled.

“This will be short, but it contains homework. It all revolves around a single theme and covers multiple Powers.

“First you will need to learn to clearly feel the power flowing through you. This is often done by meditation, but other people feel it in other ways. This is the raw power you use. You will need to learn to feel it to manipulate it.

“Next is to think of a time you could feel other people’s emotions empowering or infusing you. You could feel their fear of you and it made you strong. Maybe it was them believing in you, or the feeling of comradely as part of a group. In this case you are feeling their belief in you. I want you to think about it, for that is the type of feeling you can use to help draw on your totem, or merge with it.”

She let them think about things and write it down.

“Next I want you to think of a time you felt at one with a place. It felt right to you and made perfect sense, no matter what was going on. It felt like you belong to it and it to you. At that time you would have felt attuned to that place.

People were excited!

Then the last of the main parts.

“Think of a time a cause or idea felt right for you, that it suited you deep down and was like an essential part of you. It can be a cause, Idea, process, material item, event or other thing. That could probably be a Domain for you, and if you can allow yourself to join with it fully, you may gain it as a Domain, and can sense things related to it. You will have gained the start of Domain Awareness and Influence.”

Everyone was stunned at how simple this seemed.

She continued “However, things are not quite that simple. As you merge with your totem the joining with the Domain and Residence will be easier. When you learn about Essence things will get beyond mere sensing things.”

She looked around and asked “Any questions?”

Someone with a robot voice asked “What if we can’t sense such things? What if we have never experienced them?”

“You can try it here. Just seek to find out who you are as a person first of all. From there all other things may flow much easier than otherwise.”

There were no other questions.

Before they left Felinia told them “There is one other issue that needs to be addressed. I have heard some of you debating how Harlen, who has the Hearth Domain, was able to verbally put another student, Sandra, down during dinner last night without going beyond her Domain.

“The answer is quite simple: The Hearth Domain extends to Dinning, and Sandra was disturbing it. Harlen acted to stop it. Thus Harlen was acting according to her Domain. In fact, not seeking to stop such acts could be seen as not fulfilling her duties as a Hearth Deity. I would not punish her for trying to stop such acts and failing, as long as she tries. The same applies to any others who seek the Hearth Domain! If another is dealing with the matter, not interfering will be allowed as the matter is being sorted and getting involved may just make things worse.”

There was silence at that and students grew thoughtful at the implications. Felinia was already watching over students and their Domains!

And thus their shortest lesson yet finished, but it was by far the most directly impactful.
