"Before the so-called “Light Age '' that was later romanticized by the followers of the Lightbearer, the Empire of Hellnostro reigned over much of Coroleya. But despite its reputation for cruelty, the empire was the very foundation of civilization, art, culture, and stability. It was also the culmination of years of warring tribes, immense monsters that threatened the land, and unchecked mages that would fill the world with their dastardly experiments. And so while the empire was in of itself a bloodthirsty behemoth, it brought balance to a world that desperately needed it.

“But I must apologize, I haven’t yet properly introduced myself, I am Synwain, a traveler, and sometimes scholar of the old world. And it is in my many journeys across Coroleya that I have discovered the true history.

“Centered in what is now known as the Red Lands (Ibleth Telmag’Klear), the Empire of Hellnostro covered much of the Open Plains (Qwaula’gor), Caldashar (Tyelo'sha), and Gilgathan (Gethnad). It was also ruled by a class of beings that would later be referred to as Celestials. Born with unnatural abilities that allowed them to live among the stars, it is said they were the creators of the hellions, and through them manifested their will upon the world. And it is where the tale of Rygon the Conqueror begins.

“A lowly nobleman born into an impoverished family, Rygon quickly established himself as a leader with his daring raids into the twisted lands, and would later be gifted the title of Rygon Dragonmer, which roughly translated as warrior above all warriors. Adopted into a powerful family after his own was mysteriously wiped out, he continued his daring exploits into the north, when he was summoned to court, and told it was time to be tested.

“Sent out into the twisted lands where monstrous beasts still roamed, the young hellion was to be initiated into the royal bloodline. But first he had to survive on his own for many years and prove himself worthy of the honor.

“And while death was no stranger to him, he would be tested for many cycles, and forced to lose pieces of himself. A reminder of the cost that he would need to pay for immortality.

“Unfortunately however, as many nights began to pass, Rygon learned of a plot to be rid of him by his new family. For they saw in the young dekari, an unwanted rival for the throne, and chose this moment to strike, sending forth dozens of assassins.

“But as luck would have it, these would-be assassins were no match for him, and would either be captured, or turned against his enemies. He would then use the knowledge gained from them to strike back at his family, forcing them to flee from court.”

“Returning in triumph back to the Capitol, young Rygon was awarded the title of Lord, and given a stronghold of his choosing. But unlike his former lords and ladies who had chosen easy lands to rule, he chose the heartland of Qwaula’gor, an uninhabitable wasteland that sat above the borders of the Red Lands. Filled with savage troglodytes that continually raided southward, his job would be to guard the border. But his destiny would not keep him there.”
