The people who were chosen were Asher, me, and a person I didn't know. It was a girl with long black hair, wearing a pink tracksuit. She was about the average height for women. I wondered why I was chosen among twenty people. There were definitely people with way better physiques than me. I don't know about their intellect, but none of them looked stupid. Asher had a toned body; I think he does sports or something. The girl also seemed to be in good shape, considering she was wearing a tracksuit. But here I was, an average guy, a bit on the skinny side with nothing special about me, getting chosen.
Osiris declared to the crowd, “All right, people who didn't get chosen, please step aside. I'll prepare the teleportation hole.”
I could hear people expressing their frustration. Many of them were cursing me under their breaths. I seemed way out of place next to the other two chosen ones. It was understandable. While looking at me, I didn't seem special, but maybe my stats on paper were good? If even that’s not the case, then I guess I'm just lucky.
Sorry, guys.
Osiris waved his hand in a circular motion with his palm faced outward. A black hole appeared. However, it was not the size of my head this time. It was human-sized. People exited through it.
A few lamented, some glared at me one last time, and the others walked through it slouched, clearly signaling that they were exasperated. After the others left, Osiris’ expression became grim. He clapped once, and the surroundings changed. We seemed to be in a high-rise building with an attached balcony. The room was medium-sized, furnished with a couch and a small table in the middle.
Osiris asked us to sit down.
“The reason I want to recruit you to my world is not for the entertainment of the high nobles. That was a lie,” he revealed.
Huh? Then what was the reason? Don't tell me he belongs to a cult and wants to sacrifice people to fulfill a prophecy.
“I have recruited you all to bring peace to my world. Now you may think, why have I asked for help from mere humans who are weaker than demons or other races. The thing is, there is no race that hates each other more than humans, but there is no race more intellectually capable than humans,” he added.
The girl sitting beside me raised her hand and asked a question. “Um, can you tell more about the situation in your world? What's causing imbalance in your world?”
“Right. My bad. I should've elaborated better. I have a method to directly insert information about my world into your brains.”
Oh wow. As expected of a high-ranking noble demon.
Osiris called out, “Heina.” The same girl who stood beside him on the stage during the candidate selection appeared. “Bring me the ‘Orb of Lore’.”
If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
Heina disappeared for a few seconds and reappeared with a blue orb in her hand, which she gave to Osiris.
Osiris said, “Okay. Now, if you touch this orb, you'll gain the knowledge of my world’s history. Let's start with the one who raised the matter in question. Clara, touch this orb and say these words out loud: ‘Bestow upon me the honor of enlightenment.’”
Oh hoh. So the pretty girl's name is Clara, huh.
Clara reached out her hand and placed it on the Orb of Lore, which was still in Osiris' hand. “Bestow upon me the honor of enlightenment,” she said. Clara seemed to be unconscious for a while, her eyes moving aimlessly while still looking at the orb.
After Clara was done, it was my turn. Once again, I uttered the words to commence the process of enlightenment. It felt like I was time traveling. I was being transported through what seemed like a wormhole. Then, the surroundings changed, and the history of the world played out right in front of me. I was still standing and observing the scenes that played out, but my body was in a faded state.
The world’s history unfolded in a series of vivid, three-dimensional images and events. There were ancient battles, legendary heroes, and dark ages of suffering. I witnessed the rise and fall of empires, the clash of cultures, and the struggle for power among different races. Demons, humans, elves, and other mystical beings all had their part in this intricate tapestry of conflict and cooperation.
The most striking part of this historical journey was the constant underlying tension and hatred among the races. There were betrayals, massacres, and moments of fleeting peace. Humans, despite being physically weaker, often played pivotal roles in shaping the course of history through their ingenuity, resilience, and sometimes sheer audacity.
Then, it was finally over. It honestly felt like a two-hour movie but with three-dimensional glasses. Although it was better than that. Their history was damn interesting as a story, but looking at it from their point of view, it was a gruesome and revolting sight. I could understand his desperation now. Asher and Clara were looking spellbound after witnessing all that.
Asher, who had been quiet until now, finally spoke up. “So, you need us to use our intellect and unique human perspective to help resolve these conflicts?”
Osiris nodded. “Precisely. Your world has experienced immense conflicts, yet humans have always found ways to rebuild and move forward. My world is on the brink of destruction, and I believe that with your help, we can find a path to peace.”
Clara looked determined. “What exactly do you need us to do?”
“There are key factions and leaders we must persuade or, if necessary, defeat. You will be my strategists, my negotiators, and if needed, my warriors. Each of you brings something unique to the table.”
I still couldn't shake off the feeling of being out of place. “But why me? There are so many more capable people.”
Osiris looked at me thoughtfully. “You underestimate yourself. The very fact that you think this way shows humility and self-awareness, qualities often lacking in others. You have a latent potential, one that even you might not be fully aware of yet.”
I gulped, feeling the weight of his words. This was not just a random selection. There was a purpose, a mission, and now, a sense of responsibility. We had been chosen to bring peace to a world teetering on the edge of chaos. It was daunting, but at the same time, there was a spark of excitement and a sense of adventure. This was our chance to make a real difference, to be part of something much bigger than ourselves.
As we sat there, absorbing the enormity of our task, Osiris continued to outline his plan. We would be trained, equipped, and guided, but ultimately, it would be up to us to navigate the challenges ahead. The fate of an entire world now rested on our shoulders. And despite the uncertainty, we knew we had to rise to the occasion.
With a newfound sense of purpose, we prepared ourselves for the journey ahead. The real adventure was about to begin.
