Chapter 15: The Latix Estate

Chapter 15: The Latix Estate

“Uh..so I just pour mana into it?”

“Yes, it is that simple.”

I am officially employed now.

Parts of the magic devices get imported from Tainia and get assembled here as a whole to get sold here. But there was a problem. A specific type of magic crystal is required to power them. It has the same magical properties as the Aether magic, so basically, in my current job, all I have to do is pour my magic into the magic devices to get them running. I get like 30 Demonic Syks per device so it is quite profitable. The faces the people made when I showed off my attribute’s strength was priceless. Aether was a rare attribute after all. Only 10 or so people had it in the entire history of Tainad.

On the first day of my job, I spent the entire day just powering up the magic devices until my mana ran out. I earned close to a 1000 Demonic Syks. I didn’t need to worry about accommodation because Agnar offered to get me a room at the local inn. I felt bad about the freebies, so I paid my rent from the second day onwards. Osiris would let me stay at his mansion if I asked him. There was no doubt about it, but I couldn’t possibly do so.

I spent a whole month just constantly grinding for money. Once I saved up enough, I would travel the world. By the end of the month, I had 34200 Demonic Syks minus the rent expense for the inn. It wasn’t much if you compared it to Tainia’s Tanors, but it was a considerable amount here in the Demon continent. This amount would let me last about 2 months without working.

“It is time for us to go to the mansion.”

“What?”

“The Latix mansion.”

“Oh.”

This came out of nowhere. I had been so immersed in earning money in the past month that I had forgotten about Asher and Clara. They would be in the Latix mansion right now. They would be completely healed.

“Before going to the mansion, I want to buy something.”

Agnar looked interested and I let him in on the details.

“Ah yes! Certainly! That is something that is trending among the youth right now.”

We searched for the shop selling the specific item. Then, we finally found it without much struggle. The item we were searching for was a magic device. It was a device used by humans as a substitute for ordinary magic. Since I was also a human, I thought that maybe this would help me get stronger to adapt to this world faster.

“Welcome mister Agnar! Also the new customer.” It seems like the shop owner already knows Agnar. Well, it is helpful. I could probably negotiate for a discount.

After a few minutes, the device was bought and the money was paid. It costs a lot, and when I mean a lot, it is a lot. It cost nearly my entire savings. Yep, the whole 30000 Demonic Syks have been spent. I only had 4200 Demonic Syks left. Still, that was more than enough to last me for a week. I can work more to earn money anyway.

[Welcome, Andreas.]

The thing which cost me this much was this. It is known as the System—a cheat code in this world.

Name: Andreas

Attribute: Aether

Stats:

Strength: 8

Endurance: 7

Mana Capacity: 13

Stamina: 5

Skills:

Seraphic Slash Lv.2 (+1)

----------------------------------------

At first glance, it looked like a summary of myself, but I could definitely improve with this. I could spend cash to increase my stats. I didn’t have to manually workout to improve them. How convenient. So this is how humans have been doing it huh..

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

There was an additional level for Seraphic Slash because of the Luminivine Blade. It enhanced the Aether magic. This system is now installed into my body with my mana powering it.

I spent a few more days grinding for money. Then, we departed for the Latix mansion. I wonder how they are doing…

We walked for about half a day in the middle of a forest. There was a narrow muddy road along the forest. There was a chance of encountering monsters, but the probability of encountering a 7th or 8th Echelon monster species was pretty low. It was because the Latix knights clean up this forest every week or so. In addition to this, adventures are also hired as mercenaries to decrease the monster population in the area. Even if we did encounter a monster species beyond the 6th Echelon, I didn’t have to worry because I had Agnar with me. He was a seasoned adventurer who was used to stuff like this.

Soon enough, the trees blocking the sky disappeared and a vast, green stretch of land appeared. Walls could be seen in the distance. The chill breeze grazing my cheeks made me forget about everything.

There were numerous villages and towns towards our right and left, but they were all so far away. Just how big is the Latix estate? We neared the walls, and Agnar grabbed something from his sack. It was shiny, silvery and had the Latix family’s emblem engraved on it. He showed it to the guard standing on the front gate. The portcullis lifted and we finally entered the Latix estate’s Fortified Town. The Latix mansion is located at the center of this town.

In a laboratory, numerous people wearing something like a white coat could be seen investigating and researching. They all used different objects, criterias, methods, and had different viewpoints, but in the end, all of them were striving to solve one mystery. It was about the unknown barrier that was placed on the Progenitor’s throne.

“The time limit…it is impossible..”

“Stop grumbling and get back to work. We don’t know when that barrier will be released.”

The main problem right now was that the barrier’s time limit was unknown. It was unsure if it even had one. The person who placed the barrier could come back at any time to release the barrier. If that happened, then the civil war would once again resume. That couldn’t happen. No more lives should be lost due to the selfishness of the family heads.

They needed to identify the barrier’s origin. There was already a team of explorers dispatched on scene for that.

Second, the most important thing, the time period of the barrier. More than half the people in the lab were already assigned that task.

Third, the barrier’s type. There were many types of barriers. Many unknown ones too. They had already analyzed the known ones such as a magic device powered one or a manual one with mana. But, none of it matched. The main concern was that the barrier did not look like a barrier at all. Usually, when a place or object was surrounded by a barrier, the object would emit a light golden color and the barrier would shine a light blue color, but in this case, there was nothing like that. The barrier was transparent enough to be not seen easily ,but it was definitely there.

Heina was supervising all of it. She went from table to table to give inputs for betterment. Some of it helped in making major breakthroughs while some made the current research progress meaningless.

Things went on like this when Heina was informed by someone that Andreas had reached the Latix mansion. She had been worried about him since more than a month had passed since their last encounter in the throne room. Now, finally, Andreas has come.

Heina couldn’t control her concern for him and immediately made arrangements. She gave some additional guidance to the researchers before leaving the laboratory. The lab was located in the underground of the mansion, so it would take some time to reach the surface.

----------------------------------------

We walked for a long time after entering the town. This town, unlike the previous village, was heavily populated. It was natural since this was the capital of the Latix estate and the place the noble family members lived after all.

At first, the surroundings were your typical rural houses, but slowly the scenery changed. As we walked closer to the center of the town, the buildings’ architecture changed. It had a theme unique to the Demon continent. The houses became much more elegant looking and bigger than the past ones. I think they belonged to the Latix branch families. Then, a big mansion could be seen elevated in the distance. Even at a distance, one could tell that it was the most luxurious and lavish building in this entire town. It naturally belonged to the most reputed family in the Demon continent—The Latix family.

We arrived at the front door of the mansion. There were some guards who blocked our way initially, but let us enter after Agnar, once again, showed his skillfully crafted locket which had the Latix family emblem engraved on it.

The mansion itself was so big that only a few words could actually accurately describe its grandeur. The mansion was located on a flat hilltop. It only occupied a portion of the Latix residence, so the rest of the area was just grassland. It was spacious enough to park thirty buses on a single side of the mansion.

My eyes moved slowly across the vast plains while the breezy wind made my eyes bleary. Then a deep bellow came from the exact direction I was looking at.

Haah!

Haah!

A man could be seen training single-mindedly. The sweat dripping down his face splattered as he swung his blade each time. He was breathless, his legs could be seen trembling a bit, the strength in his hands seemed to have depleted long ago. Still, he decided to keep it up. I was honestly impressed. In addition to this, he was shirtless. His neatly toned body and abs had sweat dripping down on it. It was my dream body. I was filled with motivation when suddenly…something snapped me out of it…

The man…he wasn’t a man exactly…it was just a boy who looked to be in his teens…

Wait…that guy reminds me of someone…

Is that Asher…?

Something’s wrong.
