"Why the hell is everything poisonous!?"

He discovered that taking 2 or more poisons at a time would almost never be a good thing, even though he was lucky the first time. Somehow he managed to not die, but every time he vomited or started hallucinating that he was in a public bathroom he wished that it would just end. However, after ingesting his third vomiting poison and managing to hold it down he gained a new Skill.

Azrael raised his Wisdom, Creativity, Luck, Vitality, and his Intellect stats by one point every few poisons he created so his willpower allowed him to push through the suffering. His Alchemy, Iron Stomach, and Handicraft skills increased a little every few hours. The interesting thing was that his Angelic Voice skill would slowly increase as he sang to himself nonstop unconsciously, except when he was vomiting. Every 6 hours or so he would have to log out to hydrate himself in reality but since it was like he was sleeping, he only had to urinate every 12 hours in game. While he could go for days sometimes without eating in reality, within the game he would have to eat every few hours to keep his giant body from starving to death.

The window popped out after he started seasoning his barley bread with what looked like ground up black peppercorns and then dipping it in some Red Spontaneous Combustion Poison in place of hot sauce. After putting out the fire with some tangy Blue Freezing Poison instead of water, even in reality he could never stand to drink plain water. He started to realize that while it was possible to learn basic skills from the various crafting guilds, it was simpler to teach himself the modified versions using his creativity. However, without learning the Alchemy skill he probably wouldn't have been able to figure it out by himself. Actually, he still had no idea how it worked or why he couldn't make any potions.
"There has to be some trick to being able to tell the poisonous ingredients from the non-poisonous ones!"
Then he realized how completely idiotic he was when he went back into the front of the Guild Hall. There were hundreds of books with detailed descriptions of every ingredient that was in the store and more. He quickly read about 7 of them, since they were mostly pictures and then a window popped up.

"Finally! I can't believe that green goop isn't actually poisonous! Those spotted red mushrooms weren't either?"
Almost everything that looked safe was deadly and everything that seemed like a warning sign was actually just a trick. He had spent almost 5 days trying to create a potion and yet he never considered to just read a simple encyclopedia to save himself from being in a constant state of near death. If there was a computer with internet in the room he would have used it immediately but hadn't even touched a physical book in over 10 years.
"Seven down, at least two hundred more to go! Sigh..."
After spending 6 more days just reading through the whole damn library of hand written books that looked like they would fall apart any second he was finally on the last one. His Intellect and Wisdom had increased by 10 and his alchemy skill was at level 9 99% but even as he finished reading the last book, that one percent didn't increase.
"Sigh, well I guess that means I need to actually make a potion before I reach intermediate."
Azrael put the book back on the decrepit old shelf and then walked into the chemistry room with a smile on his face. It was finally time to create his first potion and even though he couldn't memorize any of the hundreds of potions he read about he did discover the trick to making them work. Just mix together ingredients that had similar beneficial properties and you won't create a poison. The only hard part was memorizing the ingredients properties, he never did have a very good memory when it came to that sort of thing. He chose some tiny blue fish eggs, a few frog brains and filled the rest of the small beaker with green goop.
"Time to take a sip..."
He cautiously raised the glass, which was very tiny since he had gigantic hands, up to his mouth and then drank it like a shot. It actually tasted pretty good, like strawberry and kiwi fruit juice but hard to swallow like a giant clump of melted cheese. He almost started choking but managed to hold his breath until it all went down.

"Holy shit! I didn't burst into flames, start seizing or even vomiting out blood!"
Even though he knew that it wouldn't be poison, he was still surprised after all his suffering to finally be able to make useful items that he could sell to people. Then the whole seemed to become darker and he saw a green, glowing, transparent old man standing in-front of him.
[box border=1 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=3 width=80% bordercolor=#202020 bgcolor=#f5f5f5][col colspan=4 valign=top width=100% bordercolor=#202020 bgcolor=#f5f5f5]You are currently experiencing the effects of the potion of Ghost Sight. "Oh thank Freya you can finally see me!"
The old man looked like a slightly younger version of the one who was dead when Azrael entered the Alchemy Guild Hall. The old man suddenly began sobbing with a really annoying echo effect that unfortunately couldn't be turned off.
"What's wrong? You were old and died of natural causes, why are you still here?"
"No, that's not why I'm so upset. The day before I died... my son, Donathan went into the catacombs to find an ancient tome of alchemy secrets! I warned him it was far too dangerous, but he didn't listen and went anyway! Now it's been over a week and he still hasn't returned..."
"That's terrible!"
"Please find him for me, even if he isn't alive anymore! I can't pass on without knowing what became of him!"
"Why the hell would you name your son Donathan? Is that even a real name?"
"What? It was my fathers name, what's wrong with it?"
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
"Are you sure it wasn't supposed to be Johnathan? Even Donovan would make more sense..."
"Oh, you're right! How could I have forgotten my own sons name.... please find Johnathan for me! I'll even forgive the fact that you basically stole my entire supply of alchemy ingredients!"

"Yea, I'll do it. It actually sounds pretty fun, and I was going to pay you back for the ingredients I was using. Well, not you specifically since you were dead, but whoever actually owned this place."
[box border=1 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=3 width=80% bordercolor=#202020 bgcolor=#f5f5f5][col colspan=4 valign=top width=100% bordercolor=#202020 bgcolor=#f5f5f5]Quest Accepted![/col][/box]
"Thank Freya he was as gullible as he looked..."
The ghost of the old man said under his breath as he quickly vanished and then the lighting in the room returned to normal. At that moment Azrael reinforced his theory that there wasn't much of a difference between NPCs and Users.
"The person who made this game must be as cynical as I am..."
He said to himself as he started to pack all of the ingredients that he could fit into a few bags he found lying around the store. After gathering them all up, he finally left he Alchemist Guild for the first time in almost two weeks. He quickly found a grocery store where he stocked up on cheap and easy to make foods that didn't require a campfire to cook. He also spent a few silvers on some decent pots, pans, spoons, forks ect. but even-though he was carefully trying to avoid overburdening himself, he was a barbarian. Not just any barbarian, but one that was 250 cm tall and looked like a pretty hardcore body builder too. He could have probably carried hundreds of pounds worth of equipment without much trouble but he was afraid that in the dungeon he would end up with a bunch of loot he would have to leave behind.
"Holy shit!"
"What is that guy?!"
"I saw him singing over at the Bards Guild over a week ago but he looks a little bit different."
"That giant monster can sing?!"
"Yea! He's great! Actually he even sold the song to the guild for 10 gold!"
"Wow! He must be a high level bard to get such a good price!"
"When the Class Trainer asked him to become a Bard he refused, so that must mean he's some kind of special
music related profession already."
"I've never actually seen someone with a special class before..."
"Me either, they're nearly impossible to find and most of them aren't actually that good anyway."
Random people in the store were talking obnoxiously loud to each-other as Azrael walked up to the counter to buy the goods. He lifted the 150 lb bag of groceries up with his left hand and gently placed them in front of the cashier.
"Are you sure you can afford all of this sir? You appear to be a beginner so you probably don't realize how the game works yet. It's going to cost at least 3 gold to buy all of this..."
"Here."
Azrael sighed as he handed the man the three gold pieces with a very angry look on his face. The cashier panicked at the sight of the giant who he had just insulted thrusting his gigantic hand in front of the cashier's face.
"Ah! Ok! I'll give it to you for 1 gold! Just don't kill me!"
After giving the cashier the piece of gold he picked the bag of groceries up again and walked out of the store with a smile on his face. What he didn't realize was that while constantly subjecting himself to various poisons his body and face was starting to change ever so slightly. Azrael never even thought about looking in a mirror or checking his appearance since he started playing the game.
He walked into the Blacksmith's Guild and approached a huge barbarian that was only a foot shorter than him.
The barbarian didn't speak, just pulled a giant seven foot long great-sword in a black leather sheath that was far too big for a human to use but it was small enough compared to Azrael that he could easily wield it with just his right hand.
"One gold."
The barbarian said with a serious expression on his face as he held out his hand. Azrael quickly pulled out a piece of gold and handed it to him and then placed the sheath on his back. He decided that he wanted to be as light as possible so he didn't even buy some armor. However, before he left he spoke to the class trainer who was forging a sword on the far side of the building.
"Excuse me, I would like to learn the Blacksmithing skill please."
He said in as polite of a voice as possible and them man handed him a small blacksmithing hammer and a large one at the same time.
"If you can learn how to repair properly, come back and I'll teach you how."
[box border=1 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=3 width=80% bordercolor=#202020 bgcolor=#f5f5f5][col colspan=4 valign=top width=100% bordercolor=#202020 bgcolor=#f5f5f5]Skill: you have learned a new skill, Repair.[/col][/box]

"Sure..."
"Those hammers will cost ya 1 silver."
Azrael quickly payed him the silver and left the shop, he probably should have at least bought some leather or cloth armor but he decided that it didn't matter. After searching for a few hours while carrying around 300 lbs of equipment and supplies he finally found the entrance to the catacombs inside the basement of a run down and abandoned Church of Freya.
