Chapter 36

On the Cyrus main street heading towards the Church, a group of people were waiting. Their determined faces could be seen under the dim light of oil lamps around them. There were ten oil lamps placed on the vehicles nearby. The dim light came out from them was shielding the gray mists away. In the quiet and clean street, the whole team was divided into two with ten sedan cars in the middle. These cars were all modified into car bombs after a lot of efforts. For that, they also consumed all C4 stock Peter brought. Moreover, they also put fuel tanks in these cars in further to create more damage to the targets. The vehicles of their team were also changed into most suitable ones. The seven became eight vehicles while half of them were Jeeps and other half were pickup trucks. They were ready to rock but in order to make no mistake, they were waiting for final debugging process.

Chester stood up after checking the tenth car. He stretched to relax the tired muscles and confirmed, “Alright, we are good. Rest for ten minutes and we will start the fight.”

Under the dim light, a smile, relief or expectation appeared on the tensed face of everyone. Even Peter and Chester were no exception.

Some people ate some chocolate bars. Some drank water while some preferred beer. Some silently took out the cigarettes and smoked while looking at the dark environment and dark sky in silent. However, they still didn’t forget to look around for possible enemies. Several just prepared their weapons in silent. Especially, the original inhabitants of the town couldn’t wait to kill the monsters in the dense gray fog and they didn’t want to relax unless they were in need. When they slept last night, most of them were having nightmares. Family, relatives, friends, familiar people, old, young, and children who died just in front of them would come and question them. Although they didn’t feel too much guilt for not being able to save them, they deeply hated their weakness and the enemies who killed these familiar people.

Chester glanced his mechanical watch, which two shorter hands were almost all on number 12. It was already 11:55 PM. Chester sighed and felt that the team should stop at here today. Although they were all hard trained men, consecutive operation of nearly 10 hours really exhausted them. However, he still wanted to complete the already prepared plan. He glanced around and asked, “It’s tiring. We have cleaned the whole town except the central area. Now, we have no choices. Strike them right now and make a quick fight before going back. Or stop our things here, bring these things, find a good place nearby and take a good night rest. What are you going to choose?”

After fighting together for sometimes, everyone got along well. They were already familiar with each other after going through not a very good conversations. It was hurt to dig the painful past again after all but that helped the different people to get understanding with each other. Several survivors said solemnly, “We want to strike them right now. It is better for us to kill them as much as we can when we have the chance. Now they went through several big battles with serious loss. We get no better opportunity than this. I believe we would be able to surprise them with these car bombs.”

Everyone nodded and showed their agreement. Chester smiled and laughed, “Then, what you waiting for? Get on your cars boys. They will surely love our gifts. Wood and Jude, you guys come and help me.”

The whole team started to move again. Every drivers got back into their cars while Chester started to operate the first car at the front. The other people tightly held their guns and stared into the darkness.

The pale silver light started to shine upon the town in the total darkness under the influence of dense gray fogs. The moon appeared again. It was no longer half red moon but full silver moon. The silver moonlight magically started to erase the gray mists. Although the process was slow, many places with low saturation of gray mists had started to become clear again without any existence of strange mist. However, the central area of the town had the heaviest and densest gray fogs. There were even some pure dark mists. Unlike other places, a house in the corner of suburb area started to glow dimly and started to absorbed the silver moonlight. It was just like drinking a big tonic, the dim light was slowly becoming brighter at every second. On the lawn with yellow grasses, a beautiful woman in police uniform was looking at the full silver moon in the sky and muttering the prayers in low voice. Several other men were modifying the vehicles nearby under the dim lamps light and bonfire light. The sudden moonlight surprised them while seeds of belief in Moon Goddess Ixchel also emerged in the hearts. But they didn’t stop the work in the hands to pray like Tina. After all, they needed to finish these things in hands fast in order to seek the silver lining of possibility to survive in the worst case.

In the Tosta street, everyone watched the magical moonlight scattered away the strange and dangerous mists. They were almost asleep when someone told them to get up and watch the miracle. But it was really a miracle. Witnessing the magical moonlight taking care of strange mists, they started to cheer and sob while they even forgot the tiredness. Actually, the red moonlight during previous night also helped them a lot. It was also one of the main reason why they were still living and even successfully resisted the monsters horde. They waited and expected to see strange moonlight again just to make sure that there was still a god caring about them. Yes, many people had already accepted it as the care of moon god. However, the magical moon didn’t appear until they decided to sleep at 11PM. After seeing the moon, some of them couldn’t wait to get out to clear space just to let the moonlight shine upon their body. Someone quickly found out a surprising result as she felt that she was in the embrace of her mother as a child again. It was cool but so soothing.

The woman sat down on the bloody lawn and started to sob while started to talk the injustice in her heart as if she was confessing and seeking warmth from her mother like a wronged child. Several people who came out later also started to sob and talked to the air. Their strange performance was quickly noticed by other people and soon the whole vast front yard was full of survivors in the mansion. Although the original front yard was a beautiful landscape with big trees, green grasses turf and finely trimmed bushes, their existence became the problem when they had to defend against the besieging monsters. After several battles, the original beautiful landscape became a bare one without any plants higher than five inches. Large part of green turf also became yellow as grasses died of gray mists while other part was badly stained with dark red blood from monster wolves. However, nobody was caring about that. All they wanted to do was just to get the magical moonlight upon them. Guards on duty watched all of that in silent. Some were already standing under the moonlight quietly but they were still staring at the outside. The good thing might be that they could see far away since the mists were disappearing under the magic of strange moonlight.
