Chapter 45: What's in a name?

--------- Giant Squisher Core Room ---------

'I seriously need a pickaxe. Also, more termites. What did I do with that one... oh, yeah. I got all the bugs out of it and turned everything else into mana. Damn it.'

Giant Squisher thought long and hard about things. 'Okay, another zombie. I really need something else, and those little dickbags keep killing them. Can I make you respawn like the frogs and stuff? I'm going to try something either way. Where to do it, though?' While he spoke to himself, he wandered around within his halls and partially dug rooms going up the even less completed staircase.

Finding himself in the first room attached to the daedric tower's staircase, he breathed out, remembering the tombstone he'd found and researched awhile ago. The newly spawned one appeared where he wanted it, sticking out of the ground near the forge. He took a deep breath, not finding it hard, and a copy of the dead gelfling he'd been duplicating appeared, standing and vacant, which immediately collapsed onto the ground.

'You're going to be the smith. But, you should be better than the others. For now, at least. I'll upgrade the other ones if this succeeds.' He remembered the dog-shaped matted white fur shell he'd researched and grew onto the one termite he sent off, wanting it to grow on the new corpse. Giant Squisher watched as the white fur grew out of the gelfling corpse's skin, and if it had a canine face, he'd have named it a werewolf. But nothing grew from its head. Its original was heavily irradiated, which could be the only reason it didn't work there, Giant thought to himself.

Giant began to dig into the ground in front of the tombstone, looking at the crumpled body. 'If I tell you to move, you'll be a zombie. I don't know if this will work if you are one, though.' Giant felt strange even thinking that. He felt someone staring at the back of his head, but focused on ignoring it while he continued digging.

--------- Bogsreach Stolen House ---------

Killing everyone would make getting food annoying, so instead of bothering to bring her staff with her, she left it in her room. Her partner could easily keep the trash they'd picked up under control, giving her some time to breathe. So, why not go into the dungeon she found?

It didn't have anything of interest in it the last time she was in there, but dungeons were constantly shifting and changing. Who knows what it did since she was in it last? While she walked, she thought about the other dungeon she'd already delved. She didn't have any interest in having to replace the new guy just like she did with the other guy, but at least he was useful for the last trap she'd experienced.

She got up to the Exterminators guarding the hole, and greeted them. "I'm going in."

The guards might of said something or not, she wasn't listening. She got into the first room, not having anything of interest... until she saw a door. She opened it easily, but it just opened to dirt. Why was a door here for no reason? She ignored it and looked at the giant stone monster that got out of the way the last time.

Instead, it just glared at her.

She did a quick flourish, flinging one of the arrow-shaped daggers she carried at the monster. It made the exact sound she figured it would, metal on stone. The black throwing dagger bounced off the monster, and landed on the ground. She watched as the creature's gaze shifted down to the blade. She quickly picked it up, and the monster looked back at her.

She put the dagger back on the ground near the monster.

It looked at it, and started raising itself.

She picked the blade back up and put it away.

The monster went back down.

"Mmm hmm", she said to herself. "Easy enough."

She learned something valuable, she decided as she started to leave. The other dungeon didn't cost anything to get in, and instead just looted whoever it killed for new things, but this worked too. It could maybe even be trained.

--------- Daedric Tower Room 1 ---------

'I know I have a Forge Room already. Why'd I make it over there? That was dumb. Whatever, that's not the Forge Room anymore, this is', the dungeon thought to himself as he completed his digging venture. Now he needed a zombie- but he didn't have a spare one.

Though he didn't have a head, face, or lips, he fluttered what he imagined to be those things with a deep mouth-breathing sigh. 'Ug, fine.' He spawned another zombie, basic this time. 'You're going to need to get upgraded. Maybe after-' another Research item completed, and he lost his train of thought.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

He was still standing in the hole he dug, looking up at the new zombie. He crawled out of the hole, and looked down into it. 'Toss that body in the hole, and... oh, there's no dirt. Right, I set that up.' The new zombie started shoving the furry one into the hole, but it didn't drag very easily. The zombie took it upon itself to jump down into the hole and grab the furry corpse's leg and arm, pulling it down, and it landed with a thud. The zombie crawled up out of the hole, and stood there.

Giant tried to take a deep breath, failing and coughing. 'Okay, so I'm close to the end of my reserves, huh? Fine. I am kinda hungry, actually. Dang it! Well, fine. You, zombie. Go down into the Storage Room and when the thwomp moves, go get whatever is on the other side of it and bring it into the Research Room. You can also wander around between those rooms.'

--------- Incomplete Daedric Tower ---------

The zombies continued clawing at the ground, or at least what little of the top of the hill that wouldn't serve as the tower's circular wall remained. Some grasses and a couple yellow pom-pom flowers, one which had turned white and seedy, were ripped up as well, which were laying ignored on the exposed dirt.

A shadow appeared, and quickly got smaller as a bird landed near the grasses. It hopped, showing an obvious injury to one of its legs. It settled down, resting.

--------- Bogsreach Exterminators Guild ---------

"Sending a runner to Treesedge for wood isn't worth the risk. Just wait for the Giant Squisher Dungeon to start producing wood. I don't know where it would get anything useful, but it's gotten some samples already." Captain Sylde said, rejecting the proposal.

"I don't think it got any seeds, but I also don't know if it knows how to use them, or would even bother. Should we try?", the only merchant of the group, Caelum, suggested.

"We've seen that the dungeon picked up some rocks from outside while it was still running from Leldro. Maybe it'll do something with that."

"What, are you expecting to find a treasure chest full of stone bricks?"

"I have no idea. Maybe it'll just produce a lot of mud."

"With what's been reported so far, I doubt that. It'll have something useful, but I don't know what. What does everyone here say?" The captain raised his voice, getting the attention of everyone present, except those in a drunken sleep, including the new joinees.

The girl answered first. "I'll go. I was outside enough, I'd like to see what it's like inside, too." She paused a moment. "Should we go ask the Ministry if any of them want to come?"

A couple of the men laughed.

Captain Sylde really didn't want to see someone from there. It hurt too much. "Ask on your own time. Right now, we're going. Everyone that's coming, grab your supplies!"

--------- Termite Room ---------

Giant Squisher was watching the few half-frogs hiding amongst the various pieces of furniture laying around in haphazard fashion. 'I should put more wood in here, make it easier for you guys to hide. Maybe make it harder for people to climb on it. Maybe something else too? Not like I have anything else really. Oh yeah, that stick. Eh, I'll do it later.'

He felt a presence, something or someone nearby, staring at the back of his head. 'Again? Alright! You annoying creeps help me build. So, sure.'

He made his way into the cave mouth, which used to be a Forge Room, and saw a few people entering. The small people carried weapons, which annoyed him. They started talking to each other, and after four of them were inside, they headed to the thwomp.

One of them detached what was obviously a waterskin from their belt, small as the bag was, and put it on the ground in front of Giant's first monster. He watched it look down at the thing, and begin to lift up out of the way. As it did so, his new zombie started to come out at a leisurely pace.

As it did so, the four people brandished their weapons at it, but it ignored them completely, looking at the waterskin. It picked it up, and turned around to walk away.

The... what did you call people that went into dungeons? Adventurers? The adventurers just watched, until one of them said something.

The four of them quickly rushed into the Storage Room, ignoring the zombie as it wandered to the other thwomp as the dungeon's self-identity watched. Small sparks appeared, and a flame burst into existence. With one lit torch, they could easily see the other torches they carried, using one fire to light the others.

As Giant Squisher followed and watched, the oldest-looking of the group said something, and two of the adventurers broke off from the group and ran after the new zombie, where the two others took notice of the zombie still digging the entrance to what was going to be the Arena Room.

The old adventurer said something to the young female, and she said something back. He looked angry for a moment, then curious. He said something to her, and then they started to go to the Research Room where the others went.

The two adventurers that were already in there were talking and writing things on a curled-up long scroll of some kind, proceeding around the room slowly. Once they rounded the Bell Tower, they saw the other zombie that was already in there, motionless.

The writing pair said some things, and the other group came up to them, saying something else. They stared at the zombie, keeping weapons pointed at it, but since it didn't move as they went around it to other things in the area, they looked slightly more comfortable.

When they got up to the new Entrance Exit Door, one of them opened it. The doorway appeared to show a wide space beyond, and another doorway but without a door in it. The one following the writer walked through, and a moment later, someone was heard yelling from the direction of the cave mouth.

The three remaining talked to each other, then the girl ran back to the thwomp separating the Research Room and Storage Room, which got out of her way. She made her way back to the thwomp on the other side of the room, which also got out of her way. When it did so, the other guy was revealed. The two of them said something.

Whatever it was they said, Giant had no idea, but he did have another idea. 'Hey, you two thwomps! Don't get out of the way for people anymore. They have to use the doors to get out, now!' Which made him think that maybe he should put another one, or multiple other ones around, so they could actually leave.
