Chapter 16: Making Room

Chapter 16: Making Room

'That felt disgusting. I'm trying my best, here! Just let me... I don't know. I don't like survival games, I like other shit I can troll people with. Actually, maybe that's it. I'll be a troll dungeon. What, you thought all this shit made me learn a lesson? Ha!'

He checked on his "wooden floor". It was at an upright angle, looking like a wall. But floorboards didn't look like wallboards, so it stood out. 'Alright. So, I have to make the storage room wide enough for you. And I have to make it high enough for you.' He was looking at the "bell tower", which was laying against one side, with the forge on top of it. If time wasn't paused for these things, they'd probably break each other.

'I'll take the flower but I don't want that stuff you were trying to cook. I can make better, and don't need it anyway. Sorry, guy. I mean the bucket is fine though.' He didn't want to look at the corpse, so instead he looked at the yellow flower as he stored it.

Walking over a few of his things, he looked out as far as he could in the evening light. There weren't any more of the small people visible anywhere, but since they blended in to their surroundings, it didn't mean they weren't there. Unless they were riding one of those big black goats or wearing white, there really was no way to tell. So it was best to focus on his task.

He continued digging, then got an idea. 'You know, if I wanna fuck with everyone, shouldn't I make it easy for myself? I doubt these people know about central air conditioning. What if I put that everywhere and fill it with rats? Rats love jumping on faces. Or frogs? Those are great for that too. Maybe both? Huh. How do I do it... maybe this will work?'

Instead of leaving the floor he was carving out with what looked like his bare hands at floor level, he did something else. If it was dug deeper than that, then there could be a rat run spreading across every floor, under the floor. No one would even know, besides himself. Also the rats. But doing that for the whole place? Before he even had a Research or Store room? 'I'll do it later', he said out loud to himself.

The hole in the dirt floor was only wide enough for one scoop of his hand, and so he ignored it. 'Where is my thwomp anyway? I haven't seen that guy for awhile.'

[Redeploy monster?]

'Yes! I was wondering where it was. Glad that baboon-necked clam didn't destroy it.'

The thwomp appeared, blocking the new room that was being made, on the inside of the doorway. 'I like you there! If I come towards you, get out of the way. But like, stay there and don't let anyone else in. You should also be angry if anyone's around you. You can sleep otherwise.'

The thwomp glared hatefully and looked like it would have bitten someone if they were close enough. And also put their hand in its mouth. Then it looked like it was feigning sleep.

He turned back around, and started digging again. After getting some decent space on the floor, he stopped. 'How big was it?', he asked himself. The thwomp got out of the way as he walked back into the cave mouth, and after finding the floor again, he tried to measure it. 'Making the room bigger is always an option, and would have been necessary if I ever do get that cool dragon at some point. Who knows how big it would be?' Finding the "bell tower" again, he bypassed his monster and resumed digging.

It was mindless work, but that was relaxing in its own way. He didn't even know how long he was at it, until he felt like the interior ramps could be taken down. How could he reach the correct height for a ceiling if he didn't have a way up to it? Once there was a small hallway, then branching pathways, then their dead-ends were connected, then the upper limits reached. There was a lot of work still to get the room to actually have flat walls, but it was close enough for him, at least at the moment.

'Hey, this is a Storage room now. Wanna mark it?' He didn't know how to set it up for everything to move from the cave mouth to the new Storage room, but luckily he didn't need to. No wind came to transfer anything, though. 'What, I have to move everything myself?'

Just as the Exterminators had said, an expedition was sent out. An actual quest got some people to wake up and pay attention, and more of the guildmembers to show up to the guild once news started to spread.

The party consisted of five members of varying skills and experience, taking them more than half a day to show up to where the dungeon was said to be, which was the most time anyone had taken to do the same journey thus far. They had brought camping supplies to build tents and a firepit, but opted to simply take over one of the now-abandoned buildings that hadn't collapsed in the dungeon fight to serve as their temporary home base.

Just because only two monsters had been seen, one of them being dead and the other seemingly unable to attack, it didn't mean that the Exterminators were ignoring the defensibility of the building they had chosen. Fixing the collapsed buildings didn't look possible, but the wooden planks, old as they were, even the broken ones, could be used to thicken their own walls or make a spear-like fence surrounding the building. Just in case.
