The Mercurian Legacy - 56.05.10

SAM JOVIAN - PERSONAL LOG ABOARD THE M.M.V ANTLION

ENTRY DATE: 56.05.10

It's been pretty frantic these past few weeks, haven't had a whole lot of time to write my log. We just finished up with the first asteroid — though really we should still be working on it, an asteroid should last two months at least. This one though, the Sculptors had already gotten to it. There's no way to tell if they had mined it directly or if the drones had been eating at it, but either way there wasn't much left for us to take.

Drone activity has been unusually low as well. Hardly saw a dozen over the entire mining cycle, and the ones we did see were all small or barely even armed. Not that I'm upset about this — the rest of the crew feels great about it actually — but I can't help but feel like this just means we'll be fighting double the amount of drones at the next asteroid. There's no real reason that would happen of course, but I've just got a feeling it will. The Captain wasn't exactly convinced at my reasoning but the Chief heard me out and asked him to at least use a cautious approach to the asteroid.

In other news, having finally worked together means the crew feels pretty accepting of me as a member now. We had a full crew dinner tonight (usually everyone goes for rations at different times) to celebrate the first asteroid going so smoothly, and apparently to give me a 'proper' welcome to the mining crew. I can't say Martian wine was ever my thing, but I couldn't exactly say no when there's an entire barrel locked away on board eh? Apparently the Captain has a collection of his own back at his home on Mars. The Chief tells me he's secretly more inclined towards Venetian spirits — but I'm not to tell the Captain that.

It's another five days until the next asteroid. In that time the Chief and I are going to try make some upgrades to one of the cannons. Hopefully it won't be needed, but sometimes you never can be too cautious in space, can you?
