B2 Chapter 49 - War II

Upgrading the Lord Rune was the right choice. Zayn’s power skyrocketed, as did his Spirit Souls' power.

Lord Rune - Advanced (0%)

Increases all Foundation Stars by 25%

All allies in the Lord Rune’s domain receive a 5% buff to all Foundation Stars.

The Rune contains a fragment of the Primal Soul Lord’s Divinity. It accelerates your progress and proficiency gains. Sacrifice Spirit Souls and Soul Essences to the Divinity to strengthen the Lord Rune.

Rune Engraving(1%) – As the Soul Lord of this generation, you have full control of your Soul. You are the master of your Heart Deck. Nourish your power and engrave Spirit Card Slots into your Heart Deck.

A gain of 25% to his Foundation Stars was a tremendous improvement from the previous 10%. The same could be said about the 5% buff given to all allies. The gains were higher than Zayn had hoped for, especially the new portion added to the description.

It accelerates your progress and proficiency gains.

Zayn had seen Cards with similar effects. They were rare and extremely valuable. Even the low-ranked Cards with such effects were sought after. The effect would help Zayn a lot. He would progress even faster now that his Lord Rune had advanced.

His Spirit Souls continued wreaking havoc as Zayn read the Lord Rune’s description again. He nodded faintly, lifted his head, and rushed to the strongest Soul Wisps to resurrect them as Spirit Souls. He used Lifeforce Conversion and joined the battle for a few minutes, only to realize that there were too many Spirit Souls in the tunnel.

Even though the path was wide enough for six Elite Demons to clash side by side, thousands of Demons were crammed into the tunnel and trying to advance. Yet, they could not advance as close to 100 Spirit Souls blocked their path.

Zayn tried joining the battle properly, but he was more dangerous than expected. A wry smile formed on his lips, and he nodded slowly.

“I guess that’s enough then,” He nodded, splitting most of his Spirit Soul Army to retreat.

He left the strongest Tier-2 Elite Demon Spirits with the Woodwaker Deer Spirit before pulling the rest away from the tunnel. Their power was required elsewhere.

“We’re not wasting any Soul Essences,” Zayn reminded himself, summoning his Interface to check how many Soul Essences his Spirit Souls had accumulated for him.

“I don’t think I’ll be lacking Soul Essences after today,” Zayn chuckled lightly. He used the Soul Essences to strengthen his Foundation.

Zayn’s Foundation increased rapidly following a surge of power. His Foundation Stars were still far from reaching the next rank, but he didn’t expect that to happen today, either.

Still, he called the interface of his Foundation Orbit to check if everything was in order.

[Foundation Orbit]

[Star of Vitality – Novice 270/1000] [+25%] [+30%]

[Star of Strength– Novice 280/1000] [+25%] [+30%]

[Star of Agility – Basic 400/1000] [+25%] [+30%]

[Star of Dexterity – Novice 225/1000] [+25%] [+30%]

[Star of Spirit– Basic 2000/10,000] [+25%]

A massive smile blossomed on his face. His Foundation Orbit was beautiful, and that was just the start. Enhanced Existence augmented his Foundation Stars drastically.

‘I’m still missing a bit according to the Foundation Orbit, but I’m already as powerful as a Player at the 3rd Tier!’ Zayn concluded. Even if he were to fight the City Guard Captain or the Princess’ bodyguard, Zayn shouldn’t be on the losing side anymore. And that was without his Spirit Souls’ aid.

If his smile could grow wider, it probably would have at this moment. He forgot the danger of the Demon horde for a moment and emerged from the pathway’s entrance, where his eyes fell upon tens of hundreds of Demons flying through the air, charging at the City Guards and Golden Age members. Zayn returned from the overwhelming victory against the Demons on the wide paths to the massacre before Spyro’s northern walls.

He could see thousands of projectiles flying around in both directions. Demons flying through the air, Demons charging through the masses of defenders, and Demons merging with the surrounding shadows to emerge further away, where they backstabbed their targets. The defenders were torn apart, but they weren’t helpless either. Zayn watched as the Golden Age Members and other Players tore through the rows of Demons with magical attacks and brute force.

“This will be a bit harder than expected,” Zayn murmured, but he continued smiling, “That only means I’ll be given more Soul Essences. Tier-3, I’m coming!”

Maybe it would be possible to reach Tier-3 and procure his first Legendary Card. That would change everything. It would give him access to the necessary power and potential to kill the gods.

“You, stay here and protect these idiotic Demon Spirits. Notify me when the Demons manage to kill the Demon Spirit. Block their advance and kill as many as you can,” Zayn ordered the Shaman Spirit before willing the Woodwaker Deer Spirit to accompany him. He jumped on the Deer Spirit’s back and ordered the monster to charge into the masses of enemies alongside the remaining Lesser Demon Spirits and the weaker Demon Spirits, which Zayn brought along.

The Champion Spirit charged past the Woodwaker Deer Spirit. It found a Herculean Demon, an Elite Tier-2 Demon, with enough power to damage Champion considerably. However, Champion wasn’t alone, and it didn’t feel any pain. Its heavy war-axe cleaved down, splitting the Herculean Demon after Champion’s chest was pierced by its halbert. The Demon died, while the Spirit Soul survived. Champion’s Soul Power was drained rapidly to mend the wound, but the Woodwaker Deer Spirit aided Champion, recuperating his lost Soul Power while supporting the wound’s regeneration.

Zayn resurrected the Herculean Demon, threw two large axes from his spatial storage at it, and proceeded to move onward. He jumped from the Woodwaker Deer Spirit’s back and allowed the Deer to stay in the back of the battlefield before dashing into the masses of enemies.

A meteorite crashed down next to Zayn into the masses of Demons. At least, that was what it sounded like. But Zayn knew that it was the Roc Spirit. It dived to the ground beside him, tearing apart a few Tier-2 Demons. It crushed the skull of one Herculean Demon with a simple peck and tore the others into shreds. As expected from Zayn’s strongest Spirit Soul.

It was massive and stronger than most Elite Tier-2 Demons on the battlefield. Unfortunately, the Roc Spirit was also an easy target to hit due to its size. It glowed golden in the sky when it shot into the air again. The good thing was that the Roc Spirit was agile and that most projectiles released by the Lesser Demons didn’t inflict much damage.

Zayn watched the Roc Spirit for a few seconds as it shot up and dived down again. It didn’t pay much attention to the injuries it sustained or the Soul Power each dive drained. The Woodwalker Deer Spirit could solve that issue for the Roc.

That was also what the Champion Spirit thought. It charged mindlessly at the enemies and traded heavy blows. It was struck in the chest, and so was its enemy. The enemy died from the grievous wound, while the Champion Spirit survived.

Interestingly, neither Champion, the Roc Spirit, nor the Herculean Demon Spirit were the most annoying to deal with on the battlefield. The Colossus Pyro Slime was the worst of all enemies. It devoured the Demons alive and converted their bodies into nutrition for its body or fuel for searing hot azure flames.

The Colossus Pyro Slime wasn’t fast, but it was hard to damage due to its extremely high magical and physical resistance. Most wounds regenerated rapidly as well. The Slime transformed a portion of the Demons it devoured into Soul Power, further expanding its size before splitting up temporarily, spreading its terror in multiple directions.

Zayn watched his main Spirit Souls spreading chaos and terror, but he was also very satisfied with the damage inflicted by the Demon Spirits. Even the weakest Lesser Demon Spirit managed to kill two members of its kin before its Soul Power was consumed. That was all that mattered.

He smiled and looked at the pathway entrances and the masses of Demons that had emerged in the open field.

“I guess it’s time.”
