CHAPTER 2 - GETTING HIS FIRST FIGURINE

“Welcome traveler. I see you have been reincarnated.” That was the first thing Bradley heard as came out of the blinding light.

He found himself in a capsule that was in a small room. The room itself wasn't very interesting too look at. It was a bland and dull in colors with various weird electronic components hooked up everywhere.

Bradley stepped out of the cap finding he didn't have any difficulty walking. Years of horrible wrecks caused him to have a lopsided balance. It stunned him that he could walk straight again.

“Enjoying your new body?” The voice said again. He looked to see a woman working controls in the small room. She was busy hitting switches here and there.

“Yeah, I wasn't able to walk correctly in my previous life. Too many accidents.” That was all Bradley could say trying to forget about the past.

“Where am I?” He asked.

The woman was still focused on her task as she answered his question.

“You could say you are in an entry room where reincarnated souls come from. It will disappear once you enter this new world. I am finalizing your entry into the world.” She spoke hitting a few buttons on a keypad.

“If you would follow me for a few things to finalize your transition.” She spoke pointing to a pad of some kind.

Bradley followed her wondering what it was as he stood next to her.

“Every reincarnated soul gets to select one figurine to activate with them as a partner in this new world. Normally the figurine is randomly selected for the individual, but I was given instructions that you have your own to use. So it will select from the list of what you have available. More can be unlocked in the world after meeting more requirements. We want those to have a chance to survive against others and threats.”

The woman hit a few more buttons revealing every single figurine that Bradley had ever collected.

Bradley asked her what she meant about threats and others but was only met by silence as she continued to work.

The system selected from the thousands of figurines and narrowed more in more until one was left.

It had picked a diamond grade figurine. Diamond was the highest rarity for figurines. The figurine was one of the rarest in his collection with only ten being produced. He collected not for the stats or attributes, but for its rarity and looks.

The figurine was a statue of a woman in golden armor mixed with a few reds and blacks. She held a gold and white tower shield made of bone in her left hand. In her right hand was a massive black and red sword. Equipped to her back was a gold and white spear made of bone. Along with a red and black bow made of bone. The woman had features of a Valkyrie and a demoness. The figurine had curly red horns then spiraled out from behind her ears. The horns were small. A burgundy tail could be seen wrapped around her legs with a triangular point. Wings sprouted out of her back that were three times the woman's length in total when fully unfurled.

Bradley saw the selection stop on the figurine. He had recalled the name of the warrior woman being called Selene.

He never used her for two reasons. One was her stats were a mixed bag. She had infinite defense and hp. Which was great to use as a tank in battle to attract enemies to take damage. Her downfall was she could never do any damage. Her attacks would always do no damage no matter what. She did at least have a freak wildcard that made things very unpredictable.

Selene had an unique ability called misfortune. If Bradley was ever attacked in any way, even if unintentionally, with her summoned. There would be a 10% chance a freak accident or incident would happen to the attacker. Depending on how much damage Bradley took would determine the end result.

The other reason he never used her was because of her rarity. He had only used her once in the vr game before someone tried to steal his figurine in real life. The attempted robber was caught and jailed. Bradley’s lawyers threatened the thief. Ever since he decided it was best to never use his rare figurines in his collection for the fear of being robbed or killed over them.

He stood there stunned with what was selected. “Is there any way I can change that pick?” Bradley said to the woman.

“Unfortunately, not.” She replied.

Before he could say more she hit a button as the figurine was selected. The pad they were standing next to had the figurine appear on it in a blinding white light. Selene didn’t have her weapons summoned when she stepped off the pad. She frowned looking at Bradley with a displeased face crossing her arms. She towered over him standing at seven feet in height.

“So this is the whelp I was selected to help. He doesn't look very promising. I was told I was helping a big shot. Not some newbie recruit.” She said with distaste in her voice.

“Is everything okay Selene?” Bradley asked.

“My name is Jess.” She replied, turning her back muttering under her breath.

Bradley was confused as he looked at tge other woman for an explanation. Again tge woman didn't say anything to him.

Sighing Bradley just wanted to move on as the woman next motioned for them both to head for a platform. They stepped on as the woman began working with a bunch or dials and levers.

“Once I hit the activation switch you'll be taken into the world to your new place. Please don't step off while it is running.” She warned them by hitting a few levers. She looked back at Bradley with pity on her face. It was like she knew a dark secret she couldn't reveal.

“I'm sorry I am not able to disclose more to you. Just remember this only warning. Everything comes with a price…” Those were the last words out of her mouth when she hit a button to send them both to the new world.

Bradley wanted to ask what she meant as he stepped halfway off. The woman pushed him back quickly onto the teleporter. She needed him on the teleporter for the transition to complete. Bradley fell into his bottom from the push.

Unfortunately, in doing so, Selene's freak ability triggered. The woman was shocked by a rogue spark from a switch. She cried out in pain as she stumbled back. Soon every panel began sparking from electronic failures. The woman tried desperately to fix the issue.

Bradley could only watch dumb founded at the whole bizarre affair that unfolded before him. Warning lights went off on many devices as the place lit up from an electrical overload. The teleporter malfunctioned soon after as they were zapped away onto a new world…
