Those two are the Platinum dragons. Honestly, they are doing better than expected. Except for the one time that the male almost died. But who hasn't been in a reckless accident that nearly killed them?
Perhaps you noticed some things peculiar, like their ability to speak and how they talk. I gave them those things as a little extra to help them become sentient sooner. This is because I didn't want to wait for a couple of generations for them to learn how to communicate fluently.
Besides. As people say, communication is the key to influencing others and creating powerful teams, relationships, and joint forces to achieve successful outcomes. With communication, they obviously became better at their job as custodians of the planet.
The way I did this was pretty easy. I just implemented the language I created into their genetic code while creating them. When they turned one year old, this genetic memory awakened, and they learned words like 'stop, eat, sleep,' etc.
As they grew older, they unlocked more memories of the language, becoming more fluent in it and understanding more words. When they turned five, they could communicate with each other with enough understanding and fluency like sensible adult humans.
And as for how they speak, I made it that way after some thought. I didn't want dragons to move their lips like humans do while speaking. That would be weird.
So I gave them a unique vocal cord. Their larynx is large and contains five sets of vocal cords, which they can vibrate individually to produce multiple sounds at once or one sound. This way, they can speak just by opening their mouth. They can also talk with closed mouths, but the words will get muffled.
Also, the language they speak is a load of nonsense. It sounds nothing like English or any language spoken on earth. The noise cannot even be reproduced by the vocal cords of humans or animals. I mean, dragons have five vocal cords, so yeah.
All in all, the noise they make when they speak sounds like words to each other, but to any one else, it would sound like multiple sounds put together to make nonsense, and it is impossible to duplicate that sound naturally.
Okay. Now that we have seen what the Platinum dragons are up and about, let us venture across the planet to the other set of Custodians. It is currently night on the old night side of the planet, with the stars arranged beautifully above the night sky.
Although this planet had no moons, its planetary rings brightened up the night sky brighter than any moon could ever do. Below the night sky is an expanse of frozen tundra covered in a white blanket of snow with scant evergreen trees also dressed in snow. This tundra was located right outside a large taiga filled with trees covered in snow.
Walking confidently through the tundra is a polar bear animal with a large size compared with the Arctodus of the old day side. It is only slightly larger than the Arctodus, with a more stocky build and longer, denser white fur.
Suddenly, a white shadow shot from the sky and slammed into the polar bear like an arrow, sending out a massive wave of snow and snow dust. The polar bear and the being that had crashed into it rolled around on the snowy ground, sending waves of snow dust that covered a large area around them.
The struggle soon stopped, and a wave of freezing, cold air blew, pushing away the snow dust that covered the area to reveal a massive creature feasting on the now-dead polar bear.
It looked similar to the Platinum dragon of the old day side but could be considered short in height, even compared to the female Platinum dragon, standing 4 meters tall. It is longer than both Platinum dragons, measuring 18 meters long, with a more compact body and shorter legs. It has a slender head, unlike the diamond-shaped head of the Platinum dragons, with a longer neck, short, thin ears, brown eyes, and two straight white horns protruding out of its head with a ruff of smaller extra icicle-like horns behind its head.
Long, thin, and very sharp icicle-shaped spikes go down from the top of their heads, ending at the beginning of their tail. The spikes are longer at the back and quickly become shorter as they reach the thin, whip-like tail. Its body is covered in neatly overlapping rows of silvery, polished snow-white scales. These scales appeared like backward-facing triangles, with serrated claws.
A white dragon devoured the polar bear beast, with its scales camouflaging it well with the snow-covered terrain. If not for the crimson-red blood stain now on its snout, finding it in this environment would be nearly impossible.
"I told you we should stop eating them." A powerful, icy voice came from somewhere in the immediate environment. "And you are doing it."
The white dragon stiffened and raised its head, chuckling as it looked in a direction. "Um. *Ahem*. You were you hiding?" It asked, quickly trying to hide the dead polar bear beside it. Her voice was silvery and had an upbeat sense to it.
A dragon moved towards her as if appearing out of nowhere. He was much bigger than her, standing taller, at 5.5 meters, with thicker, more powerful legs and a thicker tail. The length of his tail made him 18.5 meters long, with larger sets of scales covering his body and a long neck and horns.
"I wasn't hiding. I was sleeping." He corrected, his icy brown cat-like eyes darting to the polar bear she unsuccessfully hid behind her. "Until you awakened me while wrestling with the beast. I thought we agreed not to kill them anymore?"
"What are you talking about?" She asked, opening her wings in order to hide what was behind her. Though she was smaller, her wings were much larger than both Platinum dragons, with a wingspan of 16 meters. "I did not kill that animal that we both agreed not to kill. Haha. Why would I do that? Never."
One of his eyebrows perked up at her reply as he raised his right foreleg, pointing at her. "I saw you eating it. Please, let's not do this." He said in a tired tone. "How many times will you go back on your words?"
"I did no such thing. Nope. Never." She shook her head, denying his accusation. "I learned my lesson from last time and decided never to repeat it again. You need to trust me more."
The male dragon stared silently at her with narrowed eyes as she glanced away, avoiding eye contact. "What about the blood on your snout?"

When the female dragon noticed this, she quickly began rubbing her snout on the snowy ground to clean off the blood, saying, "They come from those animals with the white furry coat and brown spots all over. The one with sharp claws, you know. The one you like to eat." She chuckled with a strained smile.
"Their blood doesn't smell anything remotely close to the one you just cleaned." He pointed out before quickly shaking his head. "Wait, why am I even arguing with you? We both know you killed that beast, so let's not play this game."
"No, I didn't." She replied, still denying it. "I would never."
With an exasperated sigh, he asked, "So what are you hiding behind you?"
"Oh, just nothing." The female dragon said, clearing her throat. "Just feeling the need to stretch my wings."
He tried to peek past her wings, but she moved to block his sight of what was behind her. "Move." He said sternly, walking to see behind her, but she walked again to obstruct his view, keeping her wings open. Grunting, he quickly dashed to the side and moved behind her, his movement smooth and elegant like a cat. However, she had already turned to block his way once more. "What are you doing?" He asked, with furrowed brows.
"Nothing." The female dragon replied, avoiding his eyes. "Just stretching my body that had become stiff."
"What? That is definitely not what you are doing." He declared, pointing at her with his right foreleg. "You are clearly doing your best to stop me from seeing what is behind you."
"And why would I do that?" She asked, forcing herself to meet his eyes. "What could I possibly be hiding behind me? I have nothing to hide."
He had just begun to reply to her remark when an animal's noise cut him off. Their eyes turned simultaneously to the source of the noise coming from beside them, noticing nothing. They looked around for a while before glancing at each other, confused.
It squeaked again, and this time they tracked the noise and turned to the ground. It was a massive ermine-looking animal with white fur covering its entire body except for the black tip of its short tail, a long body, short legs, and long, pointy furry ears.
It made another noise, this time which sounded like chirping, before standing upright on its hind legs. While standing, it towered over 2 meters tall, using its short yet surprisingly strong tail to keep balance.
It stared silently at the two massive white dragons, who stared back with confused eyes. The two dragons stayed silent for a long time then the female dragon whispered to her partner.
"Why is it staring at us?" She asked, not moving her eyes from the standing ermine. "It isn't making a sound or running away. Is something wrong with it?"
"I don't know." The male dragon replied, equally as confused. "Normally, they run and hide when they see us. But this one is just staring... without moving any part of its body."
The ermine suddenly bared its razor-sharp teeth at them, letting out a feral hiss, the white fur on its body sticking up like needles. This caused the two dragons to flinch, moving backward. They were by no means scared of this small animal, just confused as to why it was suddenly acting this way.
"Did it just hiss at us?" The female dragon asked, taken aback. "No one ever hissed at us." She squinted her eyes. "Is it stupid? It must be stupid. I mean, why else would it try to intimidate us? No one ever does that."
"Yeah..." The male dragon mumbled, squinting his eyes. "Scare it." He said, glancing at his partner.
"Huh?" She mumbled, turning to him. "What?"
"I don't know. Roar, bark, growl." He elaborated, looking back at the ermine, who hissed again, this time stepping forward. "Just try to scare it."
She shrugged, leaning closer to the ground, and moved her head towards the standing ermine, with the tip of her snout inches away from the small animal. She is so massive that her face is larger than the ermine, and even without opening her mouth wide, she could swallow it whole.
She stayed still, remaining close to the ermine, before saying, "Roar." The air coming from her mouth when she spoke was so strong that the ermine flew back, tumbling along the snow.
"'Roar?'" Her companion repeated, tilting his head at her. "That is not a roar. You just said roar."
"I know." She replied, standing upright. "I am not in the mood to let out an actual one. Doing it makes my blood boil, and I will feel like running on a rampage, killing every animal in sight."
The male dragon was about to reply, but he was interrupted by the ermine, who let out a loud hiss. They turned to it, noticing the animal had gotten on all fours, its hair sticking out and making it look larger, and its long ears standing upright.
"Yeah..." The male dragon whispered to his partner. "There is definitely something wrong with that thing."
The ermine took a step forward, noticing something. It caught sight of something, freezing its movement and its fur immediately returning to its normal state, with its ear falling down.
With a low whimper, the ermine turned around and scurried away through the snowy ground, disappearing from sight. Confused, the two dragons both turned in the direction they had been staring at, noticing fresh the uneaten head of the polar bear-like animal.
"Oh, so it is scared of that guy but not us?" The female dragon complained, lightly slapping the head of the polar bear. "What's wrong with that thing---"
She froze, realizing something as her head slowly turned to her partner, who was staring at what she had been trying to hide. "It is not what you think." She quickly shouted, jumping away from her partner. "It was already dead when I arrived---" The glare of the male dragon shut her up. After a while of silence, she mumbled. "Sorry."
"Come on." He sighed, covering his eyes with the palm of his right foreleg. "You know we can't keep killing them. They are disappearing from the land and will all die if we don't wait a few years for them to multiply. You know this."
"I know." The female dragon mumbled, looking away. "But what else can we eat? They are the only ones that can keep us full since we've grown in size."
"What of the other ones? Those guys with the big horn that looks like tree branches?" He asked, referring to another animal they eat.
"Those guys don't taste right." She sighed, glancing at him. "We both know that. And the other animals are too small for us. Like that small stupid animal that tried to scare us. They don't even qualify as snacks."
"Yeah, but if we keep eating these guys there won't be any more food for us in years to come when we grow in size." The male dragon pointed out, ending the argument. "You can finish eating it since you already killed it. Then we leave to find those groups of tree-horn animals. They are active at this time of night."
She shook her head at his suggestion, saying, "I don't want to eat it anymore. It has become stale. Let's leave it for another animal to eat." She glanced at the half-eaten polar bear, which was now covered in snow, and its blood froze into icicles.
"Then, let us go." He said, opening his wings, which had a wingspan of 17 meters, and took off into the air with a strong gust of wind. The female dragon quickly followed after him as they flew through the night sky, looking around for food.
There was an awkward silence between them before the male dragon spoke. "I think I know why that animal wasn't scared of us." He said, referring to the massive ermine-looking animal from earlier.
"Hmm. Why?" The female dragon asked, glancing at him. "Because they are stupid?"
"No." He shook his head. "It's because we don't eat them anymore." He immediately noticed the confusion in her eyes, so he decided to elaborate. "Remember when we were small many suns ago? They used to be our main source of food. Remember how scared they were of us back then?"
"Yeah. Those little guys would immediately start running with their tails between their legs once they smell us, but we will always catch them and eat them." She smiled, remembering the old times. A time when both of them were smaller than the polar bear she just ate. "But, what's your point?" She asked, still confused.
"You see, those guys aren't scared of us because we don't eat them anymore." He explained, continuing. "We don't even kill them since we don't see them as a snack. Our presence no longer scares them, causing them to be braver around us. Notice how they don't run as much as they used to when we were smaller?"
The female dragon's eyes widened, understanding where he was coming from. "I see." She mumbled, nodding in agreement. "So we should start killing them even though we don't eat them. I hate how not scared they are."
"That will just be a waste of time." The male dragon said, scanning the ground for the tree-horn animal.
"Well, I will." The female dragon smirked, already imagining how those small animals would scatter once they caught her scent and how she would chase them, picking them up one by one and crushing them between her fingers. "Kuku."
"I see them." The male dragon announced, using his head to gesture to the ground.
Down on the snowy tundra below is a group of animals with similar looks to reindeer, but their size was a bit larger than moose. The antlers were like two branches of trees growing from their heads, with the male having an average length of 2.5 meters and the female being 1.5 meters long. Their fur is as thick as those massive polar bears, making them appear larger than they actually are.
In this area of the tundra, multiple evergreen trees were growing, like a mini forest. These reindeer were feasting on the leaves of the trees after knocking down the snow.
The two dragons hovered in the air multiple kilometers above the mini forest, their wings flapping behind them. No one attacked the reindeer because both knew how disgusting they tasted, as if they had evolved to taste terrible so no predator would eat them. Not only that but just tearing them up would release a smell from inside their bodies. This smell is so horrible, it could choke any human to death if they smell it.
"*Ahem* I am kind of in the mood for trees today." The male dragon said, clearing his throat. "You?"
"Yeah, me too." She smirked, turning away from the mini forest and facing the taiga in the distance. "Come on. Race you to the forest!" She shouted, flapping her wings and shooting through the sky like a bullet, moving over 1250km/h with almost no effort with layers of sonic booms following her.
The male White dragon grinned at this and chased after her as they headed to the snow forest to eat.
