The largest continent on this planet is one of the two continents located in the old day side. This continent is the host world's second-largest mountain range. It runs across half of the edge of the continent, almost forming a perfect enclosure around the continent. Like a great wall. It also connects to the Great Divider mountain range at one end.
This mountain range hosts multiple forests, rivers, lakes, planes, frozen wastelands, taigas, and many other biomes with a wide variety of animal species, but they are mainly carnivores.
On one part of this mountain range, the bright afternoon sun was up in the sky, beaming down relentlessly with almost no clouds. Due to the clear sky, it was possible to see the beautiful extensive rings of the planet. It looked like a wide arch of light that erupted from distant planet horizons and stretched into the sky as far as the eye could see.
Laying high on an elevated mountainside was a massive lizard-like creature with a muscular and robust body, leathery, large bat-like wings protruding from its back, four powerful legs with sharp, hooked claws, and a thick, long muscular tail. Its head is shaped like a diamond and very narrow and long, with two long horns that raise slightly above its head, the directions curving slightly forward, giving them an almost regal appearance, and very long, slim ears.
Its platinum, jewel-hard diamond-shaped scales lined its body and were neatly arranged close to each other to have no jap in between them. Like a piece of armor. Short, jewel spikes ran down its spine, from the tip of its head to the tip of its tail.
This massive beast lay in the shadow of the mountain edge, stopping the sunlight from reflecting off its scales as it locked its sharp brown cat-like eyes on a creature down in the valley.
This creature is a large Arctodus that stood 2.5 meters at the shoulder and a length of 3.5 meters. Thick brown fur covered its muscular body with powerful forelimbs, and its big paws with long, curved claws held down a dead chalicothere, feasting on the animal.
The dragon watched the Arctodus, its nictitating membrane blinking to keep its eyes moist while maintaining eye contact. It slowly rose to its feet, standing 5 meters tall, eyes still on the Arctodus, slowly opened its wings, and took small steps forward. Its wings filly fully extended beside it, reviling a massive 14 meters wingspan.
As it was about to take off, it suddenly stopped its movement, its long ears perking up. It finally broke eye contact with the Arctodus, turning its head to face the sky above the animal.
One of the clouds in the sky suddenly parted, and a dragon with a similar appearance to the one on the mountainside dropped from it, diving towards the ground like a small meteor, with layers of sonic booms surrounding it.
The Arctodus noticed a big shadow covering it and looked up from its food to see the dragon diving straight at it. It let out a growl and prepared to jump to the side, but it was not quick enough. The Platinum dragon opened its huge wings, slowing down slightly, its four legs extending and grabbing the back of the Arctodus. Its sharp claw dug deep into the Arctodus' flesh as it grabbed hold tightly to the Arctodus' back.
With a powerful flap that sent out a wave of air strong enough to send rocks, dust, and debris flying, the dragon took off into the sky, carrying the Arctodus with it.
The Platinum dragon flew multiple meters into the sky with zero difficulties, carrying the beast that weighs more than 3,000 lbs. After it was high enough, the dragon released its hold on the Arctodus, dropping it out of the sky.
The Arctodus fell, noticing the once far ground coming closer and closer, and resigned to its fate. It knew it was dead. With multiple loud snaps, the Arctodus died instantly on hitting the ground.
The Platinum dragon circled the dead animal for a while, making sure it doesn't stand up and move, before diving down and landing beside the bleeding Arctodus with a heavy boom. It stood 6.3 meters while on all fours, larger than the Arctodus. Without waiting, it started eating, effortlessly ripping its sharp Arctodus apart and swallowing massive chunks of flesh.
The Platinum dragon on the mountainside let out what sounded like a sigh after seeing what happened and flapped its wings, flying out of the shadow. Once the sunlight taught its scales, it seemed to shine, reflecting the sunlight off its surface.
It glided towards the second dragon, landing with a heavy thud, causing the ground to tremble. The second dragon didn't look up from its food and continued eating as the first slowly walked toward it, its long tail dragging heavily on the ground.
The first dragon stopped moving and stared at its partner, enjoying the Arctodus, its eyes narrowing. It opened its mouth, and somehow, without moving its lips, words came out. "I had that."
The voice was feminine and powerful and firm, and the words sounded nothing like any known language on Earth. The second dragon swallowed the meat in its mouth and looked at the female dragon with a blood-covered snout.
"I know." It replied in a deep and husky male voice. "But you were taking too long."
"I was about to kill it." The female dragon added with a snap. "But you decided to pull such a dangerous dive. Remember what happened when you did it a few suns ago? When" She asked, glaring at the male dragon. "You slammed into the ground and broke not only your legs and wings, but also all bones in your body. You also ruptured multiple of your inside. If I hadn't saved you, the animals in the surrounding would have eaten you."
The male dragon was about to say something but paused. "Fair point." He mumbled before shaking his head, "That was a mistake that will never happen again. Also, half of my bones broke, but not all." He took a shot pause before adding, "Besides, I am healed now and I have done the dive multiple times with that being the first time I got into a big accident. The hunt is always quick when I dived, and the food didn't even have a chance to try to run or fight back."
"Quick but dangerous." She corrected, pointing at him with her right front forelegs. "Also, don't think I didn't notice you almost losing control of your flight when you opened your wings to slow down."

"Yes, that did happen." The male dragon nodded, flapping its right wings. "It almost folded back." He mumbled and quickly added before she could say anything. "But I managed to catch myself and rearrange my wings."
He raised his head high, "The more I do this, the better I become. Soon, I will be able to hit moving targets." He grinned, "While you stalk one pray from the shadows, I will have finished eating multiple."
The female dragon paused before letting out a long, exasperated sigh. "I will let you keep diving while I hunt safely."
"You know I am right. You are just too scared to try it." He looked down at the half-eaten Arctodus, the female dragon following his eyes. Clearing his throat, he asked. "You want this?"
"No." She shook her head. "You already messed up the food. Look how much of its inside is everywhere." She said, looking at the Arctodus with its organs scattered all around. "Just finish it. I will find another one to eat."
"Ok." He replied and dived down to continue eating. He tore a large chunk of the beast off, not bothering to chew and swallowing it. While he ate, he noticed the female Platinum dragon staring at him. She said nothing and just watched him eat without blinking.
This made him uncomfortable he raised his head, noticing her eyes following him. "What?" He asked, to which she immediately understood the purpose of his question.
"You eat messy." She answered, pointing at his face with her right hand. "There is blood and flesh all over your face, something that won't happen if you slow down like me."
"It tastes delicious." He replied, trying to justify his habit of eating.
"Come on. We have been eating these guys for more than four thousand seven hundred forty-five suns." She grumbled, "I doubt it tastes any better than the many other times we have eaten it."
Seeing he lost that argument, he said, "I eat fast so we can continue hunting. We both know one of these won't fill me. I need at least three to be full."
"Yeah, but we have all day." She sighed, lying down on the ground. "Continue eating. I will wait."
"I have almost finished eating, so there is no point lying." He said, returning his attention to the Arctodus. Before he took a bite, he paused. "Wait. You said four thousand suns?" He asked, looking at the female dragon lying on her side with her eyes closed.
"Yeah." She replied, opening one eye to look at him. "What is the problem?"
"You have been counting the suns?" He asked, squinting his eyes. "For so long?"
"Yeah." She smirked, noticing how shocked he was. "I call it my hobby. Keeping track of the sun isn't something everyone can do. Especially you."
"I just think it is a waste of time." He replied with a grunt. "I mean, why count the stars? Don't you have something better to do? Like, I don't know, something?"
"It seems like you have finished eating." She snarled at his remark, standing up. "Let's go."
"Wait. Hold on." He shouted, looking down at his Arctodus. "I am not done. Just give me more seconds."
She didn't listen and flapped her wings, sending dust and stones flying toward him. He closed his nictitating membrane to stop the dust from entering his eyes, ignoring the stones that hit his scales.
Looking at her flying off, he looked back at his food and sighed. "I guess someone else would finish this." Opening his wings, he took flight and chased after the female platinum dragon.
He quickly caught up to her, and they silently flew through the valley 3 km above ground, looking for prey to hunt. Even at this height, they could still see everything on the ground with acute clarity.
Their biological differences could be seen as they flew next to each other. The male dragon was slightly bigger and robust, with a much wider wingspan and thicker tail. From nose to tail, he is 16 meters long, with a large, 15-meter wingspan, and weighs 15 thousand pounds.
On the other hand, female has a more aerodynamic build, with a longer tail and longer ears. She was slightly longer because of her tail, being 16.5 meters with a 14 meters wingspan and weighing 13 thousand pounds.
"By the way." The female dragon suddenly spoke, breaking the silence between them. "I am just curious. How does your diving work?"
"You are always curious about things." The male dragon remarked before explaining. "I just fly high and then fold my wings, letting my body drop head first towards the ground. When I get close to my target, I quickly open my wings to slow my descent and position myself so my legs would face my target. Then I grab the beast with all my might!" He shouted the last part, clenching his right fist, "Fly up into the sky before dropping them to their death."
She listened to his words attentively, her eyebrows perking up. "That's..." She didn't finish, holding what she wanted to say in her throat.
The male dragon didn't notice this as he looked at something on the ground. "Let me give you a demonstration." He said, using his head to gesture at a large herd of two-headed bighorn sheep running across the valley, numbering about 100. "I will catch one for you."
As she heard his words, she yelled, trying to stop him, but he had already begun to fall. He fell like a comet, plummeting diagonally through the air and heading straight for the herd of two-headed bighorn sheep.
These two-headed sheep had noticed the two dragons flying above before. That's why they started running. And now, seeing one of the dragons heading towards them, they scattered like scared sheep.
One of the unlucky sheep was the Platinum dragon's target. He opened his massive wings, slowing his descent before opening his right forelegs palm and grabbing onto the sheep's back, and flying into the sky with the sheep.
Due to its small size, he didn't need to use his claws to hold onto it as his palm could wrap around it with no problem. With the sheep in hand, he flew up and headed toward the female dragon that was watching him.
"See?" He asked, showing her the sheep he held. "Easy and quick."
"Why not just fly close to the ground and grab the sheep during a flyby?" She asked, genuinely curious as to why he risked crashing into the ground from the dive.
"Because it makes my blood boil." He grinned, looking at the trembling sheep with a menacing look. With a squeeze, the sheep's bone broke without resistance, dying like a bug squished to death.
With the sheep dead, he let go of the sheep, letting it drop to the ground. They preferred not to eat sheep since they were too small and it would take too much to make them full.
They continued flying in silence, looking for bigger prey to hunt. It didn't take long for the male dragon to notice a lone yak the size of a white rhinoceros eating the grasses along the valley.
"Go on." He said, drawing her attention before pointing to the rhino-sized yak. "Go and kill it like you normally do. By waiting hours for your perfect chance to strike."
She scoffed at his remark and flew towards the yak. It noticed her and started running, moving at the speed of a charging rhino at 55 km/h. Even with this speed, it was nothing for her. After all, 650 km/h is her normal flying speed.
She flew close to the ground, her legs capable of toughing the grassy ground if she extended them, coming up behind the running yak like a hawk.
The yak cried out multiple times, sensing its death coming, but she ignored its cry and extended her forelegs, sinking her claw onto its back and grabbing it.
With no problem, she picked up the 2,000 pounds animal and flew up into the sky with them. When at a high enough height, she dropped it and let it fall to its death.
Without waiting to see if it had died, she landed heavily on the ground beside it, with the male dragon landing across from her with a heavy boom. "See what I did?" He asked, looking up at him. "I caught it, and it wasn't as risky as yours. I don't have a chance of crashing onto the ground because of a small mistake."
"But you have the chance of getting attacked." He pointed out, causing her right eyebrow to perk up. "Sure, sure. They can't hurt us." He paused, "But as a group, they can do a considerable amount of damage to us." He stood on his hind foot, towering at over 12 meters, with his thick tail resting heavily on the ground. His underside was a darker shade than his body and has a different, less relaxed arrangement than the scales on the other side of his body. "Especially our underside." He finished, pointing at his chest.
He got back on all fours, smirking. "So mine is better."
"Yeah, right." She scoffed. "All I just have to do is find a lone one and go for it. Besides, they scatter when we arrive, so there is no chance of a group of animals attacking me."
"Mine also has the blood-pumping thing, which makes you feel alive." He added, trying and succeeding in upping his method of hunting.
She silently stared at the grinning dragon for a while before saying, "Let us forget about this. I am hungry." Turning her attention to the rhino-sized yak, she started eating.
There was a long silence between them as he watched the eating female dragon, who had become noticeably neater with her eating than him, before saying, "You know my hunting method is better than yours. That's why you want me to forget it?"
Hearing this, she paused her eating and faced him. "Then let us find out." She said, grinning. "Let us find out who has the best hunting method. Your dangerous dive or my smooth chase."
He also grinned at her challenge. "Let's do it." He agreed, asking soon after. "But how does the hunting challenge work?"
"We will just kill as many animals as we can and take them back to our cave. We will see who can hunt the most without getting tired or injured." She quickly explained, "If I win, you stop diving and start using my hunting method."
"I knew you had been thinking of a way to stop me from diving." He groaned, shaking his head.
"And this time, it will work." She smirked. "Or are you scared?"
"Me? Scared?" He scoffed. "Never. But what do I get if I win?"
"You think of that." She answered. "That's your job." She looked back at her food, adding. "We begin on the next sunrise. Start preparing ready to lose." With that, she continued eating.
"Kuku." The male Platinum dragon chuckled, thinking of something devilish to make her do when he wins.
