EERIE FATE
Chapter 4

Chapter 4

I sat on my bed with the paper in my hands. I still haven't read it. Maybe I'm scared of what I'll see, but whatever it is, might be something,,, but I don't want change. Everything is perfect the way it is. Why do people need change? Change is something new and unknown. You can't prepare yourself for it because it's unknown. I hate surprises, and this letter might bring forth the biggest surprise in my life, and expose me to a range of emotions, that's something I don't want to experience. I need something to take my mind of this.

A buzz sound came from the toaster on the table, I grinned, perfect distraction. I went to the table and grabbed a piece of paper sticking out of the toaster.

Miss Beth, the exorcist, it'll be a great

Pleasure to invite you to the Baldwin mansion

The situation at the place might be uneasy

For you because we know you dislike

Crowds, but there's a party going on and one

Of the relatives of the Baldwins caught something

Inhumane, you know the rest. A sum has already been arranged the moment you're done

please make haste.

A possession at a party for rich people. That's kind of annoying. It's like putting up a show for them. But it's probably better than whatever is inside that letter. I put on a black thick coat, long enough to reach my knees. I was dressed in all black. The Baldwins, everybody in this city knows them. They have been a huge pillar in this creation of this city, even making the layout for it. But that's not what they are famous for, clean energy and renewable energy, their invention had the entirety of the world in chokehold for a prolonged period of time. But now other countries have created a better version of it. So the attention was shifted from them. That's all that I remember, nothing quite noticeable from them ever since.

I could sense a crow outside watching me. Oh they are anticipating my movement regarding this letter. If they're so interested in it, that means it's something quite massive. Keeping it at home or with me won't be safe.

“Mala zuka’ latuz” A portal formed next to me and I placed the paper in there and it closed instantly. The crow flew away the very next minute. I probably should answer them after I finish this job. I don't know if they're making it obvious they're watching me or they're just shit at hiding it.

I made the sign of ba, with the Baldwins the focus on my mind, a bright light appeared and covered me instantly. The next thing I saw was a massive door with a golden handle. Yeah this is surely the place. I knocked on the door, there were fragments of magical substances on it. The door opened instantly, revealing a massive hall with chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. The floor was blinding, it was marble but was emitting a dimmed yellow light. The place was filled with men and women who dressed lavishly. From the look on their face they are all rich as fuck.

I searched for a butler, the crowd started to get annoying.

“Hello, miss dressed in jet black.” A voice pulled my attention away from the crowd. It was man, he was wearing a white selves and a tie but he had a massive bag on his back which doesn't look like something you'll bring to a patty.

“Are you Beth the exorcist?”

“Yes”

“Oh, I knew it. The famous exorcist gracing our presence. Now this is getting exciting.” The man grinned. The person I was looking for approached me, the butler. There was something about him I couldn't just be my finger around.

“Miss Beth?”

“Yes.”

“Mr Baldwin will be with you in a minute.” That's all he said and left. That was strange, I just have to wait here for a minute before leaving this crowd.

“Miss Beth '' The man from before calked again. I smiled towards him. It was not a friendly smile.

“Said the same thing to me, five minutes, forty seconds ago. Seems like you're the last of the invites. As you can see we're not alone.” He points towards the wall where six people were standing. A girl with dead eyes dressed in a suit, next to her was another who's tuxedo contrast with her dark skin. The other person was a massive seven feet tall man, next to him where twins I can't tell whether they're male or female, they both have a blank expression on their face.

“Oh, Miss Beth, welcome. I know your invite was late but you still made it in time.” A frail old man on a wheelchair, the butler from before was pushing him.

“Mr Baldwin, you invite was no inconvenience to me. So I heard your relative caught something strange.”

“Yes, yes it came down on her yesternoon. She started acting strange and violent, speaking in a language we couldn't understand. Right now she's —

Ah miss Beth I'm right here, keep on eyes on me not the crowds. I heard you hate crowded places it's kind of strange of your being drawn there isn't? Where was I—

Yes, yes my relative she's in great pain upstairs. Tied in chains, silver chains.”

“Oh, I see and sorry for being drawn to your crowd. Your relative is upstairs right? Let's go and see how I can be of help.”

“No need to apologize miss Beth, but you will have to wait for a little while sorry for the inconvenience. I want to sort out a few things.” The butler took him away deep into the crowd. Why am I even here? Like even if I finish the job the letter will still be waiting for me..

“So are you going to join us ? It seems like we were all invited here for our powers.” The grin still on his face, there's something unnatural about hin. But I don't care. I went there, and stood next to the girl with dead eyes who is just at space. There's a special buffet for us, without wasting time I digged in, when was the last time I ate something this good. I chuck half of the stuff in less than five minutes.

“Miss sorceress.” A voice filled with charisma pulled my attention away from the food. The dark skinned girl stood behind me, her eyes charming.

“Yes?”

“Seeing you up close has changed my perspective of you.”

“How much have you heard about me?”

“Enough for it not to reach my expectations.” She moved closer to me and whispered into my ear.

“Your mask is too visible and you're doing quite a terrible job on hiding it.” She smiled at me and I returned it.

“I'm really going to enjoy carving that mask off your face, enjoy the party miss sorceress.” She disappeared into the crowd. Don't flatter yourself thinking you saw through me because that's not a feat.

The crowd attention was drawn to the old man sitting on a wheelchair at the center was glorious hall, the light, eyes everything was fixed on him.

“I welcome everyone to this gathering, those who knows and don't know the purpose of this gathering. There are a lot of forces out there who dictate a lot of things in this life, but the prominent one is fate, matter what you do. Stir off track, the baggage and hurdles on your way, fate will always find a path for you to put you back on track. At the end of the road you'll always meet what's waiting for you,it could be anything, chaos. Yes chaos there are clearly people who are just destined to cause destruction, carnage death and suffering,” His eyes fixed on us the whole time, you don't have to make it obvious that you're talking to us, at least i bet everybody here isn't that dense.

“fate is a funny thing and it always laughs at me, telling me its secrets.” here it comes.

“I saw it, carnage, terror, and...” He twirled his hand and everybody in the hall disappeared expect the eight of us.

“ See, I wanted to make this easier by picking you off one by one. I knew the sorcerer was going to be a problem, but she caught on fast, too fast. The moment she passed through that door I knew instantly the gig was off—”

“Can you just get to the point old man.” I cut him with disdain in my voice.

“I saw it , the terror you're going to cause, the street overflowing with blood even the drainage will be filled up. So I thought if I could you all out maybe, just maybe this city I worked so hard to build will not burn to ciders.” The man starting disappearing, soft like dust.

“The house is yours to roam, try to find a way, don't try to hard because you might die doing so.” The man d

isappeared. A cold tingling sensation was left in air.
