Chapter 41: Mysterious Arachnid
Afternoon sun, dried out the mud that covered Safo, he still was unconscious near the gates of the Cilla VIllage. Next to him stood a spider-centaur, dominantly in red color with thick black stripes across its abdomen. Placing three legs by each side of the Safo’s unmoving body, the arachnid stood staring with a hungry look on its face.
"I'm gonna get that thing out of you even if I have to kill you a million times." Then he let out a creepy smile and was about to leave when he saw the group of 5 players approaching the village gates.
"Hey look, that's the mud-freak I was talking about. This stupid guy can't even comprehend the idea of the game. We came to the mud pond at level 1 at the same time, while I already have my Tier 3 weapon, this dumbas* still struggles in the mud. Pathetic piece trash!” Two meters tall ant with humanoid face character said with antipathy. His equipment was better than other player’s in the group, and by the look, he seemed to be their leader.
"Nerdydirtyplayer", truly started his current cycle of a game a little before Safo Nur did. They even met at a plaza where the new gamers spawn. Nerdydirtyplayer saw Safo Nur hugging some chick and felt jealous, he never had a girlfriend. In fact, he never hugged any girl in his life, they barely spoke to him. He wasn’t good at talking to girls or being around them. However, he was good at gaming. So it didn't take him long to be professional in The Cube. And it didn’t take him to obtain his Tire 3, the top-tier weapon available.
He made a living by gaming, it was his job to help other rich kids in Cube, gaming babysitter. Depending on the contract he would help them with quests, to pass through the Cubes and at farming too. The game that he started and the group that he was guiding wasn't his first time.
He began the game a little before his clients so he finished his weapon quest and received a Flaming Sword of Magmit Alpha. It was a powerful, Tier 3 sword with a fire element. Its properties guaranteed the owner 50% fire resistance and x5 extra fire damage. So overall damage was x15. Nerdydirtyplayer currently was at level 7, which made his damage - 10.5. He was, no doubt, the strongest in the group.
Rest in his party were newbies, all below level 5 with Tire 3 weapons, though. They hired Nerdydirtyplayer to be their mentor and guide at Cube 1, so his job was almost done. He taught them how to find better quests and show them profitable farming areas, the only thing left was to reach level 9 and move onto the next Cube.
For the regular player's scale, a group of 5 with Tier 3 weapons was considered a powerful group. Very few wanted to antagonize adventurers like that.
"He seems to be unconscious now, I bet level 1 mud monsters were too much for him. Haha"
"I want to make him my practice dummy."
"Yeah yeah, after getting these awesome weapons the monsters are too boring to kill."
"Nerdydirtyplayer, can we, please?"
Newbies were like children in a candy shop begging their parents to treat them with sweets.
‘For these spoiled kids it doesn't matter if it is a real person or a player in the game, they think they can own anything and anyone in this world. And the worst thing is, with the amount of money that their parents have, they actually can do what they want." Nerdydirtyplayer was disgust by his companions but they were his clients and paid huge paychecks so he had to play along.
"Of course let's go and own his weak as*. Haha"
Then he went on saying, “Adventurer, is this loser your friend or something? Even if it is so, why don't you go play somewhere else now? You don't want to fight 5 top-tier weapons, so get lost."
His clients burst into laughter. At their age, insulting others was the best form of entertainment.
Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
But the arachnid didn't seem to be fazed and stood where he was.
One of the guys, who looked like a humanoid that was created using a mixture of rusted mechanical parts combined with transparent glass, was wielding a long golden spear. His father was the richest one among four kids. His family owned a couple of hundred asteroids and ran a mining business. They sold ores and minerals to the Empire.
His famous spear was number one among all long spears. Tire 3, The Light of the Eastern God, legendary spear of the Sunrise God. This spear had been blessed by Sunrise God's Mother and possessed both, light and wind powers.
The Weapon cost him a fortune. It was one of the most expensive weapons in the game.
[Name: Light of the Eastern God
Tire: 3
Damage: x9
Weapon skills: Fake Spear(Active Weapon Skill) - Throw a light version of the spear. Range 6 meters. Damage x9 - 2 meters, Damage x6 - 4 meters, Damage x3 - 6 meters,
Scythe of the Wind Goddess(Active Weapon Skill) - Creates a wind Scythe while swinging a spear. ]
Being the richest came with the trait of being most spoiled, he was impatient too. Not wanting to ruin his good mood in the excitement of anticipation of having a living thing as a practice dummy. He threw his spear like a javelin. His two-meter-long spear flew with incredible speed aiming at the body of an unknown obstacle in the form of a spider that stood between him and his toy.
Arachnid didn't panic though, he moved his body slightly dodging the projectile. The spear didn't land after flying 6 meters; it disappeared in the air like a mirage.
"How dare you dodge my spear?!" The spear bearer was frustrated by the actions of an arrogant peasant. "Kill him!" He shouted at the top of his lungs commanding the rest of his party.
And his friends charged, except their mentor, he remained where he was observing his students.
A midget with a funny, uneven body and with even more funny pace was somehow the fastest of all four. He was currently at level 5, the second higher level after the mentor in their group. With his claw-like weapon, he tried to cut arachnids legs when suddenly a spider foot came to his face crushing it. Midget had no time to react and was pinned to the ground head down. Assault from arachnid didn't end with that, a needle followed shortly after. 80 centimeters long thin needle with a tiny handle at the end. It gave every sign that it was made out of a bone or more likely a porcupine’s quill. Arachnid placed his yellow and black quill in the left eye of a shocked midget.
Arachnid couldn't hit his opponent any more than that because the tip of an enemy spear came rapidly intending to puncture his face. He jumped sideward, with a motion of his left arm he deflected the spear directing it to shove into the dirt below, for some reason he was thoughtful of the body under him. Right after that, another foe came swinging his copper sword, not wanting to give time to his opponent rest for even a bit.
Arachnid ducked that swing, successfully hitting its owner with the tip of his needle.
Spearman lifted his spear to the skies and activated its second skill. Suddenly the golden spear became a silver Scythe with a very long and wide blade. Spearman dropped that huge construction on top of the arachnid. Scythe's blades were not actual blades, they were highly dense wind so when one side of the blade came in touch with the ground it didn't make Scythe stop. Instead, it continued to pierce the ground since Arachnid’s nimble moves made him miss again.
Arachnid made a retreat to create distance between him and his multiple opponents.
All four gathered together, the last one was a level 3 kid with the same copper sword as his brother. He was the slowest member of the group.
Nerdydirtyplayer still chose not to join the fight, he was analyzing the opponent, to figure out his weakest spot and win the fight in the shortest time to show off his experience to kids. But unfortunately for him, he failed to seek the flaws in the moves of the tough enemy.
"What the fuck he damaged me 23.4 HP points with just two strikes?! How is that possible?" Midget was enraged. He had the highest level, and still, he almost lost his life after nothing but two hits. While he, with his top-tier weapon, could inflict 5 damage per hit.
"Does that mean he has Tier 3 weapon too and he is at level 9?" Asked the bewildered younger brother.
No one answered even though all of them suspected the same.
"Who the hell are you, bastard? How dare you oppose us? Get lost and you can save your life or else we will really kill you. We can hunt you down, making your life miserable, you won't be able to leave the village." The Spearman tried to threaten, but his confidence was shattered a bit after seeing Arachnid's performance.
In the Cube, gamers received stats that made them stronger and faster but without any knowledge of martial arts or high fitness in real life, it was impossible to be at the top. That's why rich kids tried to get top-tier weapons and armor to be able to compete with strong players. Top players were best in both, real and virtual life. Arachnid had good moves which meant that he was an athlete of sorts outside of the game.
"What the...? Help!" The older brother with the copper sword made a step forward to get closer to his group and fell... dead.
