(Ch. 2) The Lord

(Ch. 2) The Lord

The three of us walked for around 30 minutes until we found their carriage where another man was waiting.

Graham raised a hand and spoke

“We found him on the floor in the forest, we’re taking him back with us”

The man responded with a nod.

I climbed into the carriage whilst Graham and Lyken packed some animal corpses into the back, after they had packed the last cadaver onto the carriage they both climbed up and sat on the seats facing me.

Graham put his head out of the window and said

“Everything’s on, you can set off.

I want to be back by over-morrow”

The man made a whistling sound and the

Ox-Wolves started running.

We sat in silence for a few hours and i ended up falling asleep, my mind went back to the bandit attack. I watched my mother and father die over and over again, I tried to find some other way to explain what happened.

My thoughts were interrupted when i heard the carriage shake around after going over a rock.

Graham looked at me as I stirred awake, he tried to smile but it didn’t look right on his serious face.

“You were talking in your sleep, i suppose the suspicion of you having a nightmare is proven”

My confusion must’ve shown on my face because he began to explain what he meant.

“Those who are dreaml-“

He stopped himself and then spoke again

“Those who don’t possess a nightmare power cannot have any dreams when they sleep, and since you we’re talking in your sleep i assumed that you were dreaming”

I waited a moment before responding

“I guess you could call it a dream, it was more like reliving my old memories over and over”

The next two days were spent mostly in silence, every now and then the coachman would give some progress reports an how close we were or Graham and Lykan would talk quietly about something.

The carriage finally came to a stop and we all climbed down, Graham told the coachman to take the carriage and the cadavers to the correct facilities.

“Lyken feel free to return to your manor”

Lyken sped away to our left, where a row of large houses sat.

“Come with me”

I looked back at Graham and he walked towards the centre of the town, a huge estate dominated the view.

As we stepped up to the entrance of the mansion a man stepped out and bowed, his long orange and red hair waved like a brilliant flame dancing in the wind.

He stood up straight and i could barely see his face behind his hair, although it couldn’t fully hide the giant burn on his forehead.

His ruby red eyes met mine and he smiled before opening the large door.

I was guided to a big room which was filled with bunk beds and a single mirror.

“Feel free to rest, The Lord will see you tomorrow”

I nodded and walked to one of the beds on the far wall, as soon as my body hit the soft surface i fell asleep.

I awoke to the smell of food entering my nostrils uninvited, my rumbling stomach almost told me to hurry up and go to the source.

Once i came to my senses I heard voices outside the door but i couldn’t make out what they were saying so i went over and put my ear to the door.

“Grondil, is it true that the boy caused the smog of Sheol?”

“Hold on, let me ask Sendlin Whiteclaw.

You absolute dunce”

“You two need to watch how you speak about the boy when he can hear you”

“With all due respect Graham Sire, the boy is asleep and won’t be able to hear us”

“The boy speaks in his sleep but if you would pay attention then you would notice that he isn’t speaking right now”

It was then that i realised they were talking about me, how often do i talk in my sleep? I was lost in thought and too distracted to notice the door opening, i was still stood close to the door and the sudden push from it opening made me fall onto the ground.

The man who had opened the door stepped into the room, he was an older man, he had mostly grey hair, but the small amount of red hair he had left made the similarity to the man who guarded the mansions door obvious.

He wore a black waistcoat over a white shirt, he also had a black tie and black trousers.

He began to speak but his voice was not the same as the two talking to Graham a few moments ago.

“I am Alfred, i have been tasked with taking you to see Lord Greenfeather”

He left some clothes on the bed for me to change into.

“i will be waiting outside”

I changed into the clothes and then i looked at myself in the mirror, this was the first time that i had ever seen my own face, i still hadn’t fully excepted the fact that i was 8 years old.

Mentally i was far above that of even a 15 year old but i should still be a baby, its just so bizarre.

My caramel skin was a mixture of my parents skin tones, my green hair was inherited from my father but my eyes were weird, they seemed to change colour ever so slightly, becoming blue before becoming green again.

The clothes that Alfred had left for me were a white shirt, overalls and a green tie with black trousers.

After getting changed i stepped out of the room and Alfred nodded, he began walking and i followed closely behind, we walked through the manors long hallways for almost 5 minutes before reaching a large door with decorated pillars on either side; Alfred knocked twice and then two large armoured guards opened the door from the inside.

Beautiful paintings all over the walls, large colourful windows, a large marble statue at the back.

Right in the centre of the hall sat a man.
