I took the strange suit off, watching the specks slowly shift from a lime green colour to a navy blue colour.
A knock on the door stole my attention.
“Rebel I am coming in”
The huge man was recognisable even by his voice alone, but seeing him stride through the door was still surprising. His long yellow hair was tied up into a top knot with a regal head piece adorning it.
He wore a suit not too dissimilar from the one currently resting on my new bed, however instead of specks there was one large yellow gem in the chest area, aside from that the suits were essentially the same.
“How was the fit, can’t be having you running around in a baggy suit if you’re supposed to be a Greenfeather.”
I watched as he walked over to the suit on my bed, when he picked it up the specks shifted from blue to a bright yellow.
Like the gem on his chest.
“It fit fine, but whats with the colour changing gems.”
He let out a chuckle.
“It reacts to your nightmare, thats why mine is yellow.”
I groaned in embarrassment, its so obvious now that I know.
“Anyway, come little one. Lets train a bit before the ceremony.”
“Little one?”
“Yes, little one. I need people to believe that you are my descendant.”
I rolled my eyes but I didn’t respond, there’s nothing I could really say to dispute him.
“Okay so where are we going to train?”
“Follow me and you will see.”
I followed behind Telluric in silence, we headed deeper into the city moving past rows of houses. Occasionally someone would pop out to thank Telluric for helping them with whatever urgent business he had rushed here for.
“Please Claudia I already told you, I won’t be running for the position again this year. I want to spend time with the little one.”
The old lady looked at me and grinned.
“I see you’re becoming softer because of him, I wonder why this didn’t happen with little Belli.”
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
I had to wonder who she was to be talking to Telluric like an old friend, and even referring to Bellion as ‘Little Belli’.
“Well that one was always a little different wasn’t he, but that reminds me. What about little Lindon and Lillian, how are they doing.”
“Troublemaker one and two don’t you mean. They are fine and hopefully less energetic now that this one is with me.”
Telluric ruffled my hair and I laughed at his remark, they were my first friends so being separated from them felt weird.
“Okay well don’t train him too hard Telluric.”
She gave him a stern look and went back to whatever she was doing before we walked by.
“Who is she? She seems to know you quite well.”
He shrugged and continued along the path, once again I felt that Telluric was hiding something from me.
“Keep up.”
“Yeah yeah, I’m coming.”
I continued to follow behind Telluric for what felt like an eternity, however we eventually made it to a ledge overlooking a huge lake with a small island in the middle. The island had a platform filled with strange gadgets and gears all over the side of it.
“Is that-“
“Yeah.”
“How do you expect me to get there?”
He grinned at me and then he was gone, when I looked back over to the island he was standing there adjusting all the gears.
His booming voice projected all the way to me.
“Find your own way, but you can’t touch the water.”
How on earth does he expect me to go all that way without swimming, well theres no point stressing about it theres no way he would change his mind.
I made my way down the cliff, at the bottom there was a small beach where I could think more clearly about how to do this. However the whole time I could only think of one way i could make it.
I need to use my poison to form an object to that can float.
This however, would be easier said than done.
I tried over and over to form any kind of object out of poison, but every time it just melted away. No matter how hard I tried I couldn’t get it to stay solid.
I thought about it for a minute, I have memories of my father using a weapon forged of his poison so there has to be some kind of way to do it.
I focused deeply on the memories deep within, I was searching for my father’s first time developing a physical object of poison. I found it but it definitely didn’t help build confidence that I could do it, as it turns out my father had the ability to solidify his poison since the day he was born. I had to figure out how he did it but even he didn’t know it was just something he could do.
My only opinion is to think of something else, my first thought was to try some kind of flight but it wouldn’t work without a solid foundation to keep myself up with.
After some long deliberations, I could only think of one alternative and if this didn’t work then i would have no choice but to give up.
I walked over to the edge of the beach, I stood there making sure that i thought this was my only option. It wasn’t something i was particularly excited to do.
I sighed and solidified the thoughts in my mind, and then I began.
At first nothing happened, I poured so much poison out of my body that I began to feel queasy. I continued to pour more and more into the lake I know that what I was doing might end up ruining the lake for a while but I would rather do that than face Telluric’s scrutiny.
Once I could feel the poison in the lake overpowering the nearby water I knew it was time, I exerted my force on the poison and the water that it was mixed into, I split the lake right down the middle.
I stumbled down into the dry strip of land leading to the island, the lake wasn’t that deep but it was still incredibly hard to keep all of that water separated for this long. I rushed to the island with all my speed trying my hardest to not let the water fall on my head and crush me.
The smell of wet land suffused my nostrils, almost knocking me sick and breaking my concentration. The water began to waver like it was getting ready to fall at a moments notice, once again I put all of my focus into keeping it up at this point I was more than halfway to the island.
I had a thought at that moment, if I used every single bit of my remaining strength I could probably make it to the island in a single tenverse. With the way the water was beginning to weigh down on my mind I could barely think straight, I decided to do it, I wouldn’t make it like this and I didn’t come this far just to fail.
I let go of the tension holding up the water, in the brief moment before it all came crashing down on me I used every ounce of my strength and power to do a single powerful leap.
The world blurred around me and I was suddenly in the air above the platform on the island, I looked back towards the lake and saw it come crashing together and splashing upwards by around fifty feet, and then it came crashing back down again.
As did I.
I landed on the island with a thunderous thud, and Telluric stood over me with a dumbfounded expression plastered onto his face.
