Minstrel in the corner

Minstrel in the corner

A dream:

You find yourself in a bar of some kind. There are humans all around drinking and and talking. There is a minstrel in the corner playing softly.

A man walks in and sits at the bar. He is older maybe 70 something, old for a human. He order a drink and quickly drinks it, then another and another. The minstrel notices him and begins to play a song, it is a sad song. Lively but a sad tale.

The man who just sat down looks up angrily slamming his cup on the table and orders another drink. Everyone becomes silent, while they hear the minstrel playing this song. They all look over at the man who entered recently. Watching him seeing how he will react.

He just seems to be angry and sad maybe. He gets up after the next drink, a little wobble in his pained walk. He walks out of the bar, slamming the door behind him. Everyone seems to resume talking after that, the minstrel goes back to playing the normal jaunty tunes.

You can see people whispering in the corners some women shaking their heads, one clutches a small holy symbol around her neck.

She whispers to the young man sitting across from her, “you know that song is based off what actually happened”

The man seems confused, “what do you mean?”

The man that just came in and then left,” it’s based off the events of what he did, his own greed and it ended up costing him so much more in the end. The minstrel plays that song to remind him of his error, to remind us all to not fall into that trap.”

“What happened?”

“The story is very unclear, no one is absolutely certain. Perhaps the next time you hear the song, you will glean from it more information. The song is as close as anyone has to an actual account of what happened.”
