Messages for the Child of Light

Messages for the Child of Light

As you lay down to go to sleep, you close your eyes and begin to drift off.

You find yourself in a place you recognize. Its dark except for a small white glow from a crystal in the center of the room. This place seems so much more empty than it was the last time you were here. You can hear movement, there is definitely something else here with you. The air feels cold, almost sharply cold, like wind coming down off a snowy mountain.

The sound is moving toward you, you move back and slip on the slick stone and fall backwards and land hard on your rump.

Well this is odd, this is so real compared to some of your visions before.

The light catches and glints off of scales, many large scales. A pair of golden eyes reflects the light, They come down descending from many feet above you to just above your eye level. You can hear horns scraping the stone as the ginormous head moves toward you. The small light from the orb glows brighter and you can see its features. Golden eyes set in what seems like a mountain of brilliantly white scales.

A hissing whispering, booming voice comes out as the creature opens its mouth. “You are the one who was here before. Good, Good.”

You feel your feet back under yourself. Even standing you do not meet this creatures gaze straight on.

“I have seen you and those you travel with. I watch you as you watched me, young child of light.”

As the creature speaks its every word feels like ice on your skin. It shifts closer to the light from the small sphere in the center of the room, the gold color flashes from its eyes as it peers around.

“The child of the young race, the one who bows to the speaker of the trees, it seeks the destruction of “the fool” as I believe you may as well. Seek him if you wish, child of light, but you will find not but ash. As you have seen, in your spying, he has been judged guilty of a crime, against us, as such the sentence will be carried out. “

The corners of its mouth straighten and firm with a seriousness as it finishes its words, hundreds of teeth peaking out from leathery lips.

You attempt to speak and not but silence comes from your lips.

“It is a limit of my contact with you, my reached out, young child of light, as such, you are once again just a listener. I will say this to you, with apprehension of trust, Do not tell those you travel with of this conversation, such as it is. Trust earned is trust repaid, young child of light.”

The large golden eyes narrow as the immense creature focuses its vision on you. You take your arms and wrap them around yourself to protect yourself from the cold. You can see your own breath as small puffs shadowed by the light from the small orb in the center of the large expanse. Frost has long since moved past you along the floor. The cold now feels like needle pricks on your nose and ears as you stare face to face with this immense being.

“I see you carry with you, as do your companions, teeth of the young. Such fools the young are before they have grown into their true wisdom. I do not believe the children of the young race, would be as forgiving as we if you were to kill their children and ornament yourself with their remains.”

The firm expression lifting to almost a mischievous grin, showing even more of the dagger like teeth, gathered in its jaw.

“It would seem, our time for speaking, has come to its end, for now, child of light. I would in exchange for your help with the piteous work of the fool, give you a word or two of warning, or advice.

The two tribes once, and for a time, separated by an unpassable gap, that held each's expansion at bay, now linked by the bridge that you now stand apon. How long before the nature of the children of the young race, overwhelms them and each march gladly to their own death?”

And with this query you feel yourself being shaken. Shaken, a voice calling your name. Your eyes open and you see your companions gathered around you. Surreal explains quickly that they came to wake you for the change of watch but you wouldn't wake, and that when she had touched your hand to wake you, you felt cold to the touch. They all appear quite disturbed and worried that something might be wrong with you. You move to the fire to warm a chill that seems set in almost to your very bones.
