Ambushing the Patrol

Ambushing the Patrol

A Dream:

A few seconds pass and then you can hear them continue to move on. You can hear them rustling in the bushes there only appears a few of them. Maybe if you take them by surprise, Almost without thinking you rush after them. Sword now free of its scabbard, you close the distance between you and the orcs, the second sword also comes free and with one in each hand you jump into the air leaping at the surprised creatures, they collectively are in the process of turning to see the source of the noise. Well the source of the noise is now upon them and each sword finds its mark in the neck of an orc. The creatures are shocked and both grab at the wound in an attempt to staunch the bleeding. Having driven both of the blades down into their bodies with the force of the leap both are now deeply impaled in the creatures and between that and the creatures attempts to not lose all their blood the blades are now stuck fast. A third and fourth orc now recovered from the surprise lower their shoulders and start to rush at you. You slide the blackened shield off your back and set you hand in the straps as you reach for one of the wounded orc’s axes that has fallen to the ground when it was freed from the panicked hands of its owner. You get your fingertips barely touch the handle and one of them is already attacking, he rushes in and you tilt the shield and lower your weight, as the creature makes impact you keep tilting the shield and he defects off of it and over you, landing on his back, you turn quickly and drop the weight of the shield on his head using the edge. There is a deafening thud and a crack as you make impact, the orc goes limp. His friend is not far behind and tackles you to the ground as you stand poised over his companion ready to attack the creature again. The shield comes free of your arm and lands a few feet away, rocking back and forth as the curved shape attempts to settle. The creature is damn near crushing your legs with his large frame, his knees rest on your thighs and both his arms grasp a large axe that he is winding up over his head. You struggle for a moment trying to free himself, the creature hold the axe in position and begins to mutter something in its rough guttural tongue.Panic sets in as you realize this may be the end. There on his waist is a handle of some kind you aren’t sure what it is attached to but you go for it anyways, a long thin dagger comes free and one of the creatures hands moves quickly to stop you. A small turn of the wrist from you with the blade and several of the orc’s fingers go flying, it screams and the axe begins to come down. One of your arms goes up to deflect the coming attack and the point of the blade too is brought to bear against it. It has too much force this alone will not be enough, You shift hard to one side contorting your body out of the way. There is a wet squish as the arm is pierced by the creatures own dagger and a heavy thud as the lower arm meets your own deflecting arm. The ax clangs as it strikes the dirt and rocks on the ground next to your head. The creature barely seems to register that it has missed but instead its gaze is fixed strongly on the point of metal jutting out through its arm towards his face. The orc leans back and rolls away from you, the force of which wrenches the dagger from your hand. With some difficulty it makes its way to its knees and with what is left of the one hand pulls the dagger free and lets the blood soaked blade clatter to the ground. You crawl over to the shield and once more get your arm into the binds. The orc using the full hand with wounded arm picks up the dagger from the ground and starts making his way in your direction, it appears he isn’t done yet. You hunker behind the shield and it opts to bodyslam the shield. A little footwork and you turn the shield as he impacts and he deflects off and directly at a nearby tree, putting up its free arm to stop himself from making hard impact the hand instead falters when he attempts to steady himself likely because of the missing or partially missing fingers. The creature’s shoulder instead makes impact with the tree and he goes down. Using both the damaged hand and the one still clenching the dagger he attempts to stand again. *Crunch* The head of an orc made axe collides with the back of his skull nearly splitting it free of the rest of the body. You stand over the creature your hand still gripped tightly to the handle of the axe. You pry it free and quickly turn to see what else might be coming for you. There is only silence, short the soft spurting of blood on the ground and ever weakening breaths of orcs. One, two, three, you seem to count out loud. Damn
