Chapter 22:

As the night slowly gave way to the break of day in Seoul, the cityscape transformed into a mesmerizing blend of urban beauty and tranquillity. In the alleyway, tucked away from the bustling main streets, the transition from darkness to dawn painted a serene picture.

Only a few more hours passed before the hubbub of society returned, filling the streets with incessant noise and pollution.

It was also at that time, that from the shadows, a young teenager standing 162cm emerged from an adjoining alley way and made his way to the many people bustling throughout the streets.

He tried to interact with each of them, however his clothes and demeanour, in clear contrast to the behaviour of normal kids his age, resulted in any onlookers looking on with disgust as he moved through their ranks.

"Hi, you wouldn't happen to know of any prestigious school nearby?"

His way of speaking, that being the informality and lack of respect, irked the elderly man before him who side stepped the kid huffing as he walked away.

Xander sighed as the spectacle played out before him. Over the past few hours things weren't good according to plan.

Most of the adults just ignored him, probably thinking he was more of a ruffian something his current apparel didn't help improve.

Gritting his teeth, Xander spat out.

"Calm down, these good folks don't know how much of a good studious child you are. The day has just begun. No need to get agitated".

Xander continued his way through the sidewalk, with people clearly moving away from him as he walked.

It didn't help that the smell of the fluid he had floated in was quite strong and mixed with the pungent odour of the bin he hid behind all night. Well, let's just say the smell and his appearance was not going to make the task any easier.

As Xander moved through the sidewalk, he heard the peter pater of feet. Someone was running and that to behind him coming closer and closer, Xander could feel the intensity in the air as the individual neared, moving faster than a normal human could.

Xander froze. Had he been found so quickly? Did he turn and engage? Move and run?

As Xander contemplated what to do, the distance between the two got shorter, with the sound of shoes striking pavement growing louder and closer.

Whoever this was, whatever it was, it was moving fast!

Taking a deep breath, Xander moved to the side. He churned his mental energy, ready to summon his krayt dragon before his opponent got too close. He hoped this person wouldn't try attacking him in front of so many people. However, as he turned and looked back, what he saw wasn't what he was expecting.

A red-headed youth wearing a white school uniform was running through the street, with worry evident on his face.

"No way!"

As the youth passed him, with speed surpassing an ordinary human, Xander recognised, or at least thought he knew, who this person was.

Wasn't this one of the kids in the Noblesse manhwa and, if that was the case, wasn't he going to the very school Xander was looking for?

"Hey. Wait up!"

Xander shouted as he took off behind the teenager, however despite his incessant screams, the youth clearly worried about himself being late for school only picked up the pace.

As Xander comically chased after the teenager, his oversized shoes proved more of an obstacle than help, so he took them off along with the heavy jacket, trying to make up pace.

Now it should be noted that Xander did do lots of cultivating and was very studios, but he wasn't a fan of physical exertion.

"Damnit, what the hell do these kids eat".

As the chase continued through many streets, Xander kept a slight distance, running just fast enough to keep sight of the youth. Finally, turning a corner which Xander followed suit, the wide expanse and closed gates of the school lay bare.

The distance between Xander and the school was still a few hundred metres, but with his advanced eyesight and the large board, the name was clear.

Xander couldn't help but speak the name of the place that would hopefully provide him sanctuary.

"Ye Ran High School!"

--

Xander had spent the next few hours waiting until the terminator of a guard left his duty at the front of the gate. The man was a mountain of a human, to the point Xander though he was one of the enhanced humans. The scar on his forehead and his bulging muscles didn't improve his academic image either.

Waiting a few more hours just to be safe, Xander tentatively approached the gates, to which he effortlessly manoeuvred over.

As he took a few more steps through the playground, a voice rose from behind him. He hadn't noticed the individual get behind him, and yet that was exactly what happened.

"What do you think you're doing?"

As Xander turned around, a tall, lean, handsome man with silver-grey hair that almost reached his shoulder and covered one eye stood before him. He had piercing grey eyes and a jagged scar along the right side of his mouth. Dressed in a formal black suit, a white shirt, a black tie, and black shoes with a white armband.

Xander instantly identified the man due to his iconic image. He was a modified human much like Xander and like Xander had escaped from the union and found refuge in this school.

A member of the Ye Ran Special Security. M21.

"Hey there, I came to see the headmaster. I am a new student?"
