“We need a name.” Nelva spoke up as they walked down another long, empty corridor.
They could see bits and pieces from where other groups had fought, but the dungeon had not spawned in anything for their group to fight just yet. Nelva had predicted it was due to how brutally and easily they had managed to slay the first few monsters that they had run into so the dungeon had probably decided to hold back on its powers on monster summons until it could give them a bit more of a challenge.
“What would we name ourselves? The Odd bunch?” John piped up with a chuckle.
“Glad to hear you makin’ more jokes.” Jack piped up. “But doubt people in this world will get it. Well we have a flustered frog-“ The frog let out a small ribbit and bumped against the armored man. “-A yakuzabold-“ Tezira looked at him confused with no idea how to translate her description. She quickly shrugged and just went with it though. “-and a gnoll amazon.” Zilta just gave a wide, fang filled smile with hers translating well.
“Hey, John gets to flirt with me, not you.” She cheerfully teased.
“Wait. Why only me?” John asked a bit confused. He then watched as the other four all looked at each other in amusement, nodded to each other, then continued on. “Why do I get a pass?” He asked again still unable to realize that the gnoll was finally into him.
“Well. You two are honestly the largest oddities in the group.” Nelva pointed out having recovered from the tease. “Kobolds and gnolls are fairly common with my own only being scarce. Humans however are exceedingly rare already. Add on the fact that you two are from a whole different world and come carrying tech that we have never seen before and you two will probably the strangest thing most people see in their lives.” She chimed in.
“Hey, she is right. Maybe the humans should be our mascots!” The gnoll laughed out giving John a small nudge.
“They are pretty good looking, and they are exotic enough to be the mascots. I mean, a party just having ONE human is hyper rare, two is practically legendary. I mean come ON! You two were the first humans I ever met and I run so much behind the scenes. I mean, I met a gorgon, a couple of merfolk, and even a few ratkin but never a human.”
“Wait, you met a gorgon and ratkin!” Nelva piped up. “I simply must hear those stories sometime! The ratkin never leave their burrows and deep mine cities! Most will even refuse to even meet anyone that isn’t a ratkin or dwarf!” She ribbited out happily as she pulled out her journal to take notes on what she just heard.
“Yup! Was just a small group. Nothing too big really. Wanted to join the mining unions so they could go down in the mines and start building burrows and scouting out ore.” Tezira explained with a smug smile.
“Hey. Name.” Zilta piped up and the three women nodded in unison.
“So, it is at least settled that Jack and John will be our mascots.” Nelva piped in as she put away her journal with a sigh. “Now we just have to make a name based on them.”
Tezira was the first with a name. “How about… the human humpers~?” Her tone was dripping with malicious teasing as she suggested it. Watching the frog closely and laughing a bit as the frog’s ribbit of shock echoed down the hall. The kobold started to laugh only for the surprised yip of the gnoll to make her pause and look at the large woman in surprise.
Jack also joined in looking over at John not believing his partner had done the deed so fast. John looked over at Jack so fast the armor whirred from the surprise speed and quickly started to shake his head.
The pop of Nelva’s hand on the back of Tezira’s head echoed down the cavern. The kobold laughed even harder for a bit before the two looked at each other in shock when what just happened dawned on them. Tezira went wide eyed before wiping off the tears that had started to form as her smile went from ear to ear as well as, for the first time in a very long time, reached her eyes as well.
“Alright, so that name has been rejected by everyone who doesn’t bury themselves in trash romance novels.” Jack chimed up ignoring the indignant squeak from the kobold. “Any others?”
“Armored humans?” Zilta piped in before letting out a long groan. “Alright. I suck with names. My first club as a kit was named “thunk.” She confessed getting a chuckle out a few of her new friends.
“Well, at least you tried. I never named my weapons.” John admitted with a shrug. “Besides, naming a club “thunk” is actually pretty damn funny.”
Zilta’s tail wagged as she gave John a wide fang filled smile. “Thank you! I thought so too! I still get laughs at the village for it though.” She admitted with a sigh as she gave the massive chain sword a few practice swings through the air to get some of her frustration.

“Alright. So. They are high tech human dungeon delvers from another dimension.” Nelva listed out as she tapped her chin.
“Hey!” Tezira jumped into the front of the group causing them to stop. She then struck a clearly practiced “heroic pose” before sharing her idea. “Dimensional Dungeon Delvers!” She declared as she moved her hands through the air to emphasize her idea.
“You are really thinking about their Ds.” Zilta chimed in with a mischievous smile, happy to finally have a chance to get revenge on her for earlier. She laughed as the kobold let out a loud, flustered squeak not expecting it to have been turned on her in such a way.
“True!” Nelva added in with a chortle. “However, it is quite the fetching name! It rolls off the tounge, is quite catchy, explains what we do, and it features our two mascots.” She listed out as she looked over the group. “My vote is for our group to be the “Dimensional dungeon delvers” to become our group name. Also I think that Jack and John shouldn’t get to vote on this.”
“Oi!” Jack yelled out in surprise as John just started laughing.
“Second!” Tezira piped in very happy that she had spared the poor kobold further humiliation.
“Ah fuck it why not? Better than anything I could come up with.” Zilta added with a small nod.
“Alright, it is a unanimous decision that our group will be known as the dimensional dungeon delvers.” Nelva declared.
Jack started to raise a hand clearly about to protest the name, but after seeing the look the three gave him simply let out a sigh and lowered his hand back down knowing very well he had been defeated. Even if both he and John teamed up to try and protest the new name they were still outnumbered.
Judging by how John was chuckling and nodding his head at the idea, though, it was probably just Jack that didn’t fully accept the name yet. Jack let out a long sign and nodded. “Alright alright. Dimensional dungeon delvers it is. I didn’t expect to be made into a mascot by this world, but fuck it. Might as well since you three clearly want it so bad.”
John shook his head at the sneaky jab but the deal was done. Their name was set.
“Alright, lets get going!” Jack called out and pointed down the hall. “We have yet to find magic gems or any good treasure so we better keep going.”
The delvers nodded and got back into formation before slowly starting to make their way deeper into the dungeon. At long last a group rose up from a pile of rubble to challenge the group with their swords and spears at the ready. Four huge orcs and five goblins all ready to try their best to rip the delvers apart.
The group sprung into action. Tezira pulled out a grenade, yanked the pin, and skipped backwards for a couple of seconds before tossing the grenade into the charging group before scurrying back to the main group. The goblinoids charged at her, roaring and shrieking as they ignored the metal ball that rolled into their path.
The thud of the grenade shook the hall, but the attackers had been spaced far enough apart that the grenade did not finish them off. Two goblins were shredded apart by the grenade and one of the orcs lost most of its left leg. It let out a roar and rolled around on the ground moving slower and slower until it finally lost enough blood to give out.
Jack and John opened fire towards the survivors letting their guns rattle off in full auto at the smaller goblins due to the targets being small and attempting to dodge side to side to avoid their fire. One caught a burst from its chest to its head and was promptly splattered all over the stone floor of the dungeon. Another took a round in the arm and stopped to let out a screech of pain only for it’s head to be removed from the rest of its body by a well placed shot.
The surviving goblinoids soon found the hard stone they were running on turn into loose, deep gravel. Two of the orcs slid and almost lost their balance but soon recovered and continued their charge, but just a bit slower. The other orc and last goblin was not so lucky however. The orc fell face first and skidded in the loose stone, screaming as the rocks dug into its tough skin. It didn’t suffer long however as a burst from both humans put it down. The goblin was even more unlucky due to its small size. It fell over instantly and barely got a single shriek out before the gravel parted and dragged the goblin down. There was only the sound of rustling stones and faint popping to mark the end of the goblin at the hands of Nelva.
The final two orcs made it to Zilta. Their thick, muscular bodies flinching as holes were ripped through them by gunfire with their pure monstrous instincts and drive being the thing keeping them going. Once they were close enough to Zilta the gunfire stopped as the two humans didn’t want to accidentally catch the gnoll in friendly fire and could only watch as she readied for her turn to do her part.
One orc swung their large rusty sword at her only to roar and back off once Zilta’s chain sword started to cut into the orc’s blade. Its ally came in to help, swinging their own blade towards Zilta only for her to sidestep the swipe and slam her elbow into the orc’s face so hard orc teeth clattered to the floor.
She used the momentum and the fact one was dazed to bring her blade back before lunging forward with her blade roaring with pure power. The first orc instinctively swung their sword to try to deflect the lunge only for them to watch as Zilta tilted her blade to catch the orc’s sword in the chain. Sparks flew as the orc’s rusty sword was finally cut in half followed by the blade plunging into the orc’s chest, quickly carving a large hole in the middle of the monster ending it.
The orc that had taken an elbow to the face recovered enough to start to swing its sword at the gnoll seeing her blade buried in the chest of its orcy ally. However Zilta was faster lifting up her leg and giving the orc a firm kick to its guts. The orc staggered back, coughing up a little bit as it tried to recover from the firm kick only for one quick swipe with the chain sword, easily freed from the orc it had impaled, cutting off the last orc’s head.
The delvers all looked around to make sure there was no other targets before relaxing and letting out small, nervous laughs as they wound down from the adrenaline rush. All of them looking at the carnage once more in front of them with each one happy they were all part of the same team.
